Medium: The Complete Fifth Season Review

Medium: The Complete Fifth Season

This show has a likable, great cast. I honestly keep forgetting that Patricia Arquette is acting. She is so convincing that it's hard not to take the character of Allison seriously, instead of "what a loon." I'm a mom and it's WONDERFUL to see someone who looks like a mom instead of glamourous star with tons of makeup. Joe and Allison have real fights. Joe isn't perfect. Allison isn't perfect. Their marriage deals with faith and trust in each other, broken cars, losing jobs, taking kids to the doctor, etc. I love the family relationships. The kids act like, well, normal kids. Is anyone else tired of "super-brainy," mouthy brats being promoted on TV?
The DA, lead detective, and deputy mayor make up the other side of Allison's life. Another great ensemble! All three are down to earth and none fit into the usual niches of their roles. The DA doesn't act like a law book. The lead detective doesn't act like Starsky or Hutch. The deputy mayor is both logical and calming. They're intriguing characters and I would like to hear more of their stories, too.
I was SO glad that CBS picked up "Medium!" I am hoping that CBS will do a better job in promoting this little gem filled with a new mystery every week. With NBC and its crazy scheduling, I missed the first couple of episodes before I knew that it was back on the air. Never got to see reruns during the summer--I hope that changes.
I've purchased the first four seasons and am looking forward to this release!

Parks & Recreation: Season One Review

Parks and Recreation: Season One

When I watched the first episode of "Parks and Recreation", I was let down. It was unfunny, unoriginal, and dull. Being an Amy Poehler fan though, I decided to stick with it to see if it improved. To my surprise, not only did it improve, it became better than most sitcoms out there nowadays. If you reviewed this negatively based solely on the first episode, I would suggest watching the entire season as even I agree with your first episode assessment. If you like "30 Rock" and "The Office", this show fits in nicely to that style of comedy.

From the people who bring you The Office comes Parks and Recreation, the hilarious saga of government employees and local citizens turning a neighborhood hole in the ground into a new public park. Comedy superstar Amy Poehler (Saturday Night Live, Baby Mama) stars as Leslie Knope, an ambitious and hopeful small town government worker, whose dreams are way bigger than her political talents. Created by Primetime Emmy® Award winners Greg Daniels (The Office, King of the Hill, The Simpsons) and Michael Schur (The Office, SNL), and featuring a stellar ensemble cast, Parks and Recreation is a “genuinely funny comedy" (Daniel Carlson, Hollywood Reporter) about bureaucracy, hope and America at the dawn of the Obama age.

Kings - The Complete Series (2009) Review

Kings - The Complete Series (2009)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This show does have its faults. The biggest one is how modern speech is intermingled with Shakespearean dialogue... it gives the show gravitas, but it cuts back on the realism. There are some unlikely events, but since this is a retelling of a Bible story in a modern setting, I don't mind it, and as a sci-fi enthusiast I even like it. The show does take things very seriously, with two unlikely security guards providing comic relief that quite frankly, isn't very funny. There is a lot about the world that we don't know, and there is little exposition, which will drive alternate universe fans up a wall. Additionally, if you jump into the series mid-stream, it may take you a few minutes of viewing to become acclimated.
If you can get past those faults, you'll find some of the best there is on TV right now, especially network TV. Sub plots that seem to have nothing to do with one another cleverly weave together throughout the hour to come to surprising twists at the end. Though the characters are mostly archetypes, they are very interesting, and you want to know more about them-- especially Silas and how he became king. The way religion is portrayed and how it affects things is very reminiscent of the new Battlestar Galactica; the multi-ethnic cast reminiscent of Star Trek, politics will have you waxing nostalgic for The West Wing, and best of all, it's not another cop, lawyer or doctor show. It's not insipid reality TV or a recycled sitcom. This is truly original, intelligent programming.
Unfortunately, due to the worst viral marketing campaign I have ever seen, I don't think we'll get another season, so get this show and watch it on your own. NBC did very little to promote this series, but is going out of its way to push another cheap cop drama on us. The show, the story, the actors, and we, the viewers, deserve better. If we're lucky, maybe a cable channel will pick it up and we'll get some more brilliance. NBC should not have been given the chance to kill this critically-acclaimed show. It deserves to be on HBO-- and in your DVD collection.

Medium - The Complete Second Season (2005)
Average Reviews:

This is "Medium" --- The Complete Second Season, featuring 22 episodes of this amazing NBC series with performances by Emmy-award winning Patricia Arquette. This DVD includes some excellent bonus features. The bonus features are as follows:Commentaries --- For several episodes, featuring both crew and cast. These commentaries are insightful and entertaining and will definitely help you to understand certain aspects of the show better. It's too bad they couldn't do commentary for "Death Takes a Holiday" and "Twice Upon a Time," but I suspect they were still wrapping work on those eps while this DVD set was being created.
The Story of "Medium" Season 2 - Highlights of the season from beginning to end. Discusses how things changed between season one and two, some of the highest-quality episodes, and more.
"Medium" in Another Dimension --- Discusses the 3-D episode of the show, "Still Life." This is pretty interesting and has some insightful thoughts, but a lot of it is already covered in the commentary for that episode.
A Day in the Life of the Dubois Daughters --- Discusses the actresses that play the daughters of the show, as well as the characters themselves. Includes their school studies, how they prepare for the show and anecdotes and praise from other cast and crew.
The Museum of Television and Radio - Q&A with Cast and Creative Team --- Discusses the writing process for the show.
Gag Reel --- A fun gag reel, including mess-ups as well as joke scenes. If you're a fan of "Medium," or any good drama or science-fiction series, you can't afford to pass this up.

From Emmy Award-winning executive producer, creator and director Glenn Gordon Caron ("Moonlighting") comes "Medium," a chilling drama series inspired by the real-life story of research medium Allison DuBois. Emmy winner Patricia Arquette ("Stigmata," "Flirting with Disaster") stars as a young wife and mother who, since childhood, has been struggling to make sense of her dreams and visions of dead people. Arquette received the Emmy in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category after the telecast of the initial 16 episodes of the critically acclaimed series. Allison DuBois (Arquette) is a strong-willed young mother of three, a devoted wife and law student who begins to suspect that she can talk to dead people, see the future in her dreams and read people's thoughts. Fearing for her mental health, she turns for support to her husband Joe (Jake Weber, "U-571"), an aerospace engineer, who slowly comes to believe that what his wife is telling him just might be true. The real challenge is convincing her boss, D.A. Devalos (Miguel Sandoval) -- and the other doubters in the criminal justice system -- that her psychic abilities can give them the upper hand when it comes to solving violent and horrifying crimes whose mysteries often reside with those who live beyond the grave.

30 Rock: Season Three Review

30 Rock: Season Three
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
"30 Rock", the NBC sitcom that has the most Emmy Awards (22) for a single year for a comedy series. An award-winning series that is critically acclaimed series that in its first and second year, despite being a series that critics raved about, the series has had its challenge due to its low viewership.
Fortunately, NBC has supported this series and greenlighted a fourth season because "30 ROCK" is unique and one of those rare delights that is on network television. Humorous, entertaining but literally, just a fantastic comedy that has solid writing and a talented cast.
30 Rock is the shortened address of where NBC Studios is located in New York City, ala 30 Rockefeller Plaza. The show revolves around the crew and the cast of the live sketch comedy "The Girlie Show" which is written by head writer Liz Lemon (Tina Fey, "Saturday Night Live", "Baby Mama", "Mean Girls") and stars actress Jenna Maroney (Jane Krakowski, "Ally McBeal"). But Liz's boss, Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin, "Knots Landing", "Beetlejuice", "Pearl Harbor") decides to add comedian Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan, "Saturday Night Live", "Scare Tactics") to spice up the show and rename it "TGS with Tracy Jordan".
The show focuses on what goes behind-the-scenes of the creation of the show and what is going on in the personal lives of several of the main characters (primarily focusing on the lives of Liz Lemon and Jack Donaghy) and focuses on relationships and the unique friendship that Jack and Liz tend to develop, while the two deal with their own love life but also their interaction with the writers of TGS and the NBC Page Kenneth Parcell (Jack MacBrayer, "Forgetting Sarah Marshall", "Arrested Development").

VIDEO & AUDIO:
"30 ROCK - SEASON 3' is presented in Anamorphic Widescreen 1:78:1. The television series is shot via single camera and has that drama series style of quality. But for the most part, the show is anamorphic widescreen and picture quality is satisfactory for what you would expect from television on DVD.
As for audio, audio is presented in English Dolby Digital 5.1. For home theater owners with a receiver, the audio is front and channel driven with the dialogue being clear and understandable and the opening theme song coming quite lively. But for the most part, the audio is satisfactory for a comedy. Personally, I had my receiver set at stereo on all channels as my primary selection and preference in hearing the series.
Subtitles are presented in English SDH.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
"30 ROCK - Season 3' includes quite a number of special features:
DISC 1:
* Flu Shot Episode Commentary with Tina Fey & Jeff Richmond

JUDGMENT CALL:
I absolutely love "30 ROCK". The third season showed no signs of slowdown and every episode, you just want to laugh because the characters are hilarious but most of all, the writing is just top notch. And all 22 episodes in the third season does not disappoint at all.
With the second season DVD release from last year, the show was really facing major challenges as the Writers Guild Strike really cut down on the episodes and no one knew if NBC was going to cancel the show but they gave it some time and next thing you know, the show won many awards. The fact that the show has been nominated for 22 awards in 2009 alone is a testament of how people respect the show's writing and its talent. As mentioned earlier in my review, "30 ROCK" is one of those rare and unique shows on television and everything manages to work perfectly.
I've watched Season 3 on television and I couldn't wait to watch the episodes again, that's how much I really enjoy this series. It's witty, fun and comedy that is highly entertaining! In fact, as for favorite episodes, there is just so many. From finding out who Liz Lemon was talking to on the plane ride in the episode "Believe in the Stars", to see the reuniting of the "Night Court" characters and also see Jennifer Aniston's "Claire" getting into mischief in "The One with the Cast of Night Court", Kenneth going on a date with a blind staffer with Tracy's help in "St. Valentine's Day", Jack seeing a duplicate of himself on the Spanish soap opera in "Generalissimo" or Liz and Jack visiting Liz's high school reunion in the episode titled "Reunion"...Read more›

Community: The Complete First Season (2009)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm not going to spend much time talking about how much I like Community. The first season, like most, has some ups and downs but it quickly proved itself to be a bitingly funny comedy that could easily hang with the other Thursday night big boys on NBC.
That being said, this DVD set has ruined me for all other television shows. There are outtakes, alternative scenes, producer's cuts, mini episodes, a highlight reel, two featurettes, and 25 commentaries with the cast/crew (that's one for each episode). Clearly a lot of love has gone into this show AND the DVD content. Of course, how can I look at other shows the same way again? Most can't even match up to half of what this set offers.
Right now, Amazon is selling this for 17.99, and you can get 5 dollars off if you put in the code SONYFIVE. Even if you were paying retail price for this, you'd be getting a MAJOR steal. Buy this to not only support Community and its creators, but to support how truly great DVD can be with the right amount of effort involved.

Smooth talking ex-lawyer Jeff Winger has got a lot to learn, and he's come to Greendale Community College to avoid every bit of it. Unfortunately for Jeff, he's not the only misfit to enroll here, and people in need have an odd way of finding each other. First, his fake study group becomes a real study group. Then, over the course of a strange year - from Mexican Halloween to the final 'Tranny Dance' - including bad trips, great debates, drunk dials, food fights, epic paintball battles and sinister chicken finger conspiracies - the group becomes a family, something Jeff never wanted, but clearly needs. Starring Joel McHale (TV's The Soup), Ken Jeong (The Hangover) and Emmy Award winner Chevy Chase.

Tonight - 4 Decades of The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson Review

Tonight - 4 Decades of The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Other reviewers have done a great job at detailing what is on this new Carson collection - and as a huge Carson fan who owns all the DVDs I want to offer a few tips to potential buyers.
The library of Carson DVDs are divided into "clip shows" that have clips of the best moments in the history of the program, and cutdowns of "full episodes", like the ones included in this collection. If you want to see the really famous clips (Ed Ames throwing the tomahawk, classic banter between Johnny and Ed or Doc, and the other really monumental moments), then the best collection to start with is the three disc Ultimate Collection, which has the best moments of the thirty years of the show, divided up by decade. If you are even a bigger fan, buy the "Heeres Johnny" Collection, which contains the Ultimate Collection discs, and all the other clip DVDs and few full episode DVDs, including the second to last episode with Bette Midler and the final episode. Both The Ultimate Collection and Heeres Johnny have been out a few years, so if you are buying a gift for a fan they might already own them.
This new collection, "Tonight", is the first new release from the Carson library in several years, and features cutdowns of full programs, so when you watch it you get a much better feeling for what it was like to sit down at 11:30 pm and watch an episode of Tonight Show, versus watching random but great clips from different shows. These are wonderful programs with great guests, and it is like a time capsule of America over thirty years. Carson sets the standard for talk show hosts, and as you watch these shows you see that almost all of today's hosts are simply trying to replicate (most of them unsuccessfully) the magic that made Johnny's show the best.
I have also found it interesting to play Carson episodes for people too young to have experienced him. Without exception - he is still funny, and suprisingly very hip - and young people love him! If they like watching Mad Men - they can watch Carson episodes from the 60's and see how people really dressed and acted during the period.
Some reviewers have been upset that these are not full unedited episodes - since some of the material is cut out. This is a true and a matter of personal taste. These are thirty minutes long - not the 60 to 90 minutes of the original shows - and I know there are some that want to exactly replicate the original shows. Of course the commercials are gone, and some of the material is edited down or eliminated, probably due to clearance issues. However, the upside of this is that you get cut downs of many more episodes and get to see many more guests, as opposed to fewer episodes that are longer and my have material that is not up to par. Still, myself and many Carson fans have been asking for a full episode collection, and this is a great start. The best moments of the episode are there - including the monologue and guest segments, and you still feel like you are watching an entire show, albeit a shorter one than the original.
And along with the great material, you will love the packaging. It comes in a beautiful box with a great collectors book, and the remastering is top-notch, though some of the edits between episodes could be smoother. There is a total of 1800 minutes of The Tonight Show, so this is a major collection. It is a set that belongs on the shelf of any serious fan of television. In the past I have given the other collections as gifts, as it is the kind of DVD set that virtually everyone would appreciate. This is by far the nicest packaging of any of the sets, and would look really impressive.
So if you are new to Carson, you might want to start with The Ultimate Collection or better yet, Heeres Johnny, which will have the most classic moments from the show. If you own those collections, or are buying for an established fan, you / they should consider this box set.

This season is short but great. Having said that I have to say that the series is NOT over. It is moving to ABC for season 8. I keep seeing reviews where it says series ended with season 7. Not true. It just ended its run on NBC. ABC picked it up for 18 episodes for season 8. Just had to clear that up.

With its deft combination of humor and heart, this single-camera sitcom is a both a critical and cult favorite. Scrubs stars Zach Braff as J.D., an eager doctor at Sacred Heart Hospital. With J.D. as its narrator, the show frequently dips into surrealism as it shows his strange thoughts and daydreams. The rest of the characters on Scrubs are equally eccentric: best friend Turk (Donald Faison), bossy nurse Carla (Judy Reyes), J.D.'s reluctant mentor Dr. Cox (John C. McGinley), the anxiety-ridden ex-girlfriend Elliot (Sarah Chalke), and J.D.'s arch nemesis, known simply as 'Janitor' (Neil Flynn). This set contains all episodes from season seven of this popular series.

The Office: Season Five Review

A lot can be said for the first 4 seasons of the show.Season 5 is still strong I totally LOVE every episode. There is NO other TV show that I will watch over again but this one. I have seen each episode multiple times. The thing I appreciate the most is what I call the "time release" brand of humor. There are so many subtle things going on that there is no way to catch them in one viewing. If you don't believe me try it. Watch your fave episode again and see if you don't find another great "line" or spoofy interaction that you didn't see before. This stuff is brilliant!!

The Office: Season Three (2005)

OK, so it's an imitation of a British show. But it's a good imitation. The Pam/Jim saga is heart breaking and wonderful, the Dwight/Jim hostility is satisfying in a naughty way. The supporting characters are wonderfully real and flawed. Not to single any one of them out, as they're all worth watching (and how often can you say that about such a big cast), but Creed is a scream. How many layers of creepiness can one guy have? I haven't mentioned Michael Scott (Steve Carell) because his obvious comic brilliance is sort of compromised for me by the pain of watching his character in action. It's almost too painful to bear.

Heroes: Season Four (2009) Review

Heroes: Season Four (2009)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Season four of Heroes had the show taking steps back in the right direction. After the disaster of the past two seasons, the show titled this season "Redemption" to try and earn some respect back. In my mind, they did earn redemption. This season wasn't as good as season one, but Heroes was fun to watch again. Heroes hasn't been fun at all since season one. This season finally started to organically develop the characters again and introduced many new characters I enjoyed.
This season starts a few months after season three, and all of the characters are dealing with the repercussions. (spoiler) For instance, after pushing Nathan's mind into Sylar's body, Sylar is now trapped in Matt's head. Sylar for the first half of the season tried to get back into his body, and along the way insults Matt in the most hilarious ways possible. (end spoiler) These guys together was one of the best parts of the season. The new characters this season are all very cool, which is something that hasn't happened for a long time with Heroes. We get to see the main villain Samuel Sullivan (played by the ever charming Robert Knepper) develop over the season and we see how and why he develops his evil plan near the end of the season. My favorite new character this season was Emma, a deaf file clerk at Peter's hospital who develops synesthesia (the ability to see sound as color). Her and Peter's relationship was another highpoint of the season. I really liked how this season focused on the characters instead of another generic "Let's save the world again guys!" story like they've been doing for a while now.
The story also slowed down this season into something smaller and digestible. Instead of trying to cram everyone's storyline into one episode, this season only included about 2-3 in each episode. This allowed the individual stories more time to develop and slowed the pace down to something enjoyable. When watching this season on TV it was too slow when there was a week in between each episode, but I recently streamed the season on Netflix and the pacing was much better when watched back to back. There was a real slowdown mid-season though that did kill the momentum that the season had been building before then. Watching it on TV, this slowdown was painful to watch week after week and I wondered if Heroes' return to quality was only temporary. It was as if they had only created enough story for 13 episodes but then had to stretch it out into 18 episodes. After this lull in pacing though the season picks right back up and finishes with the best season finale of the show yet.
I don't want to spoil this season for those who haven't seen it yet, but suffice to say the turn around Heroes has done in quality this season is almost unbelievable. For a while there Heroes was one of the worst shows on television, but this season managed to crank out material that was lots of fun to watch. The people giving this season one star have stopped caring for Heroes long before season four started. These people are suffering from disappointment, which is worse than being bad at first and then getting better. Heroes was great at first, and people invested time and money in it expecting it to get better. However, Heroes got worse and worse. People are now bitter about the show and aren't willing to give it a chance. If you are willing to give this season a shot, you will see how much better Heroes has gotten.
Update 05/16/2010: Heroes has been canceled. While it's sad the show has been canceled on its rebound, it's not surprising considering how awful the second and third seasons were. In the second season, the characters puttered around and things moved very slowly. In the first few episodes a lot of nothing happened. It slowly picked up as the season went along, but then the writer's strike hit and they gave us a crappy wrap up as a result. The worst part was (spoiler) they forgot Peter's girlfriend in the future. I know she was probably erased or something when the timeline changed, but it made no impact on Peter what-so-ever in the third season. (end spoiler)
In complete contrast, the first volume of the third season had the characters running around at a frantic pace doing everything under the sun. The worst part about it was that they didn't have very good continuity between episodes. It produced entertaining individual episodes, but as a whole the volume made no sense. The second volume of season three was much better than the first. It had a central storyline to focus on and slowed the pace down. On the flip-side it took a few episodes to find its feet, and the finale was god awful. (spolier) They focused on Claire and the door during the huge Sylar/Nathan/Peter fight?!?! You teased us in the first season finale, but now you actually have it and do the entire thing off screen? There is no excuse for something that stupid. I almost quit Heroes when they had that as the "big climax" of the season. Thank goodness I didn't. (end spoiler) In the end, although it was much better than season two and first half of season three, it only managed to be decent.
It has been said time and time again, but it is true: Heroes had huge potential but wasted a lot of it. From characters dying and coming back to life inexplicably (How many times did Nathan die?) to running around in circles for storylines (they held on to that future painting gimmick for a seemingly endless amount of time), Heroes just never lived up to what it wanted to be. Seasons one and four are good, and the second half of season three is OK, but the rest is just garbage.
I'll probably do a more complete review of Heroes as a whole when they release a complete series box set, but this is already a good summary of what went wrong with Heroes. Despite being canceled, Heroes isn't quite dead yet. NBC is making plans for a two-hour TV movie to wrap up the series, so we will get more closure than the season four finale offers (which does serve as a decent series finale if the TV movie falls through). Although Heroes is gone, which most people would say is for the better, it has undeniably left a mark on sci-fi television and pop culture in general.

Heroes - Season One (2006) Review

Heroes - Season One (2006)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
What if you discovered that you had a superpower -- great strength, flight, teleportation, or amazing healing? And what if you could use it to save the world?
Superheroes are everywhere in entertainment, from comic books to movies. But few manage to be as intelligent, geeky and well-written as "Heroes," a solid comic-book style TV series that explores the repercussions of several "ordinary" people who discover that they have strange -- and sometimes dangerous -- powers.
It opens with Mohinder Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy) reflecting on the human quest for knowledge -- even knowledge that we shouldn't have -- right before learning that his father has been killed, possibly murdered. Suresh's dad believed that "special" people were cropping up, much like in X-Men.
And we are introduced to the "heroes": stripper Niki (Ali Larter) harbors a secret dark side, cheerleader Claire (Hayden Panettiere) heals from any injury, Japanese Dilbert Hiro (Masi Oka) can bend time and space, Senatorial candidate Nathan (Adrian Pasdar) is able to fly, his brother Peter (Milo Ventimiglia) can copy others' powers, a cop Matt (Greg Grunberg) can read minds, and junkie artist Isaac (Santiago Cabrera) sees the future. There are plenty of others that show up, but these start the ball rolling.
While Claire and Hiro explore the potential of their new powers, Niki and her son try to elude some hired thugs --and end up overwhelmed by her dark side, and framed. And Suresh searches for the answer to his father's death, only to find that his genetics research is involved with the "special people," and that a superpowered serial killer is targeting them.
Even worse, Hiro takes a trip to New York (five weeks in the future), and sees the city destroyed by a massive blast -- as does Isaac, through his paintings. How to stop it? As a future Hiro tells them, "save the cheerleader, save the world." The Heroes begin slowly coming into contact, in a haze of dreams, visions, murder, swords and death -- and to stop the serial killer and save New York, more sacrifices may be made...
Unlike most shows about people with superpowers, "Heroes" isn't really about the action or flashy battles. It's half epic save-the-world-as-a-team story, and half exploration of how real, ordinary people would react if they suddenly found out that they had superpowers, and how this would change -- or NOT change -- their lives.
The storylines are incredibly intricate and complex, since there are a dozen subplots and a lot of time travel, and plenty of hints at future events. The careful painting of all these storylines even further in two episodes, one of which shows the pre-Heroic lies of the characters (and how Syler became a murderous terror), and another that shows what the future will be like if they don't change it. It's not a pretty picture.
These complex storylines are enhanced by lots of suspense and tightly directed action, and the makers always know how to throw in a shocking twist, such as a sword-carrying future Hiro showing up.. But there is also some poignancy, and very dark humor from time to time (Claire waking up in mid-autopsy, or twisting her broken neck around). Not to mention some great, sometimes geeky dialogue ("Where did you learn all this?" "X-men No. 143 when Kitty Pryde time travels!").
The actors are pretty much all good -- Larter gives a great double performance, Zachary Quinto is a wonderfully twisted villain, and Panettiere gives a good performance as a teen whose adolescence has a lot more than hormones in store. Masi Oka is the standout, though -- his Hiro is sweet, endearing, geeky, heroic, sad, kindly, funny and thoroughly lovable. The scene where he arrives in New York is adorable.
The "Heroes" are only starting their journey, and the first season of this geeky hit is a must-see for fans of intelligent sci-fi drama. And I doubt their journey is over...

Parenthood: Season 1 (2010) Review

Parenthood: Season 1 (2010)
Average Reviews:

I enjoyed this show right from the beginning, but as each episode aired I fell more and more in love. The writing is intelligent and incredibly full of depth - the characters in this family have been developed in such a way that I honestly feel like I know them in real life . . . they mirror such traits that are so often found in everyone's family. The acting is absolutely top-notch. Peter Krause and Lauren Graham shine in every episode and do a nice job of anchoring as the oldest siblings. The younger two siblings, played by Dax Shepard and Erika Christensen, also give surprisingly poignant, and often hilarious, performances. As if that weren't enough, add in Monica Potter, Craig T. Nelson, Mae Whitman, and Bonnie Bedelia to perfectly round out the cast. One of my favorite things about this show is how it has lovely balance of drama and humor. Just as in real life, the most heart-wrenching of dilemmas will be quickly followed by a hilarious quip (usually perfectly delivered by Lauren or Dax) that instantly takes the viewer from tears to laughs. This is scripted family drama done to perfection. Also, the look and feel of the show is simply gorgeous - kudos to the set designers. I very much appreciate the journey I have taken with the Bravermans during these thirteen episodes, for I have very much come to care for this fictional family, and cannot wait for season 2 to begin in September.

Friends: The Complete Third Season (1996) Review

Friends: The Complete Third Season (1996)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
"Friends - The Complete Third Season" is a must-have for any Friends fan! I consider this to be one of Friends' best seasons for two reasons. One, being the sharp and very witty dialogue and happenings (Chandler & Joey acquiring a duck & a chick, Phoebe's boyfriend's "hanging" problem, Chandler acting like a woman, etc.). The second, is Ross and Rachel's breakup. David Schwimmer and Jennifer Aniston were heartbreakingly believable in the parting of one of TV's greatest couples ever.
In this collection, you get the following episodes:
1. "The One With the Princess Leia Fantasy"- Monica's still gloomy over her breakup with Richard. Ross tells Rachel about his Princess Leia fantasy.
2. "The One Where No One's Ready"- Ross and Phoebe are the only one's dressed 30 minutes before a museum fundraiser.
3. "The One With the Jam"- Monica tries to get over Richard by making jam. Then she decides that she wants to have a baby on her own, so she gets a list of sperm donors, only to discover Joey is on the list.
4. "The One With the Metaphorical Tunnel"- Ross is shocked when Ben plays with a Barbie doll. Chandler decides to "go through the tunnel" and make a commitment to Janice.
5. "The One With Frank Jr."- Phoebe reunites with her half brother, Frank Jr. The gang discusses who would be on their freebie list (five celebrities they'd be allowed to sleep with and not jeopardize their relationship).
6. "The One With the Flashback"- Janice asks everybody if they've ever almost hooked up, causing the gang to have a flashback to three years earlier. We see Chandler searching for a roommate & hitting on Rachel (who's having cold-feet over her impending marriage), Ross making out on a pool table with Phoebe after he learns his wife is a lesbian and Monica with a crush on Joey.
7. "The One With the Race Car Bed"- Ross is dreading a dinner with Rachel's father. Joey goes with Monica to return a race car bed that was accidentally delivered to her apartment.
8. "The One With the Poking Device"- Rachel and Monica baby-sit Ben for the afternoon, but Monica leaves a knot on his head after bumping him into the wall. Joey tells Chandler that he caught Janice kissing her ex-husband.
9. "The One With the Football"- It's Thanksgiving and the gang goes over to the park to play football and some sibling rivalry between Ross and Monica is reawakened.
10. "The One Where Rachel Quits"- Just before Christmas, Gunther tells Rachel she needs to be retrained as a waitress, so she quits. Monica gets hooked on Mint Treasures that Ross is selling.
11. "The One Where Chandler Can't Remember Which Sister"- A drunk Chandler hooks up with one of Joey's sisters, but he can't recall which one. Rachel meets Mark, who helps her get a job at Bloomingdale's.
12. "The One With All the Jealousy"- Ross gets jealous over the fact that Mark takes Rachel to lunch. Monica goes out with Julio, a hunky co-worker at the 50s diner.
13. "The One Where Monica & Richard Are Friends"- Monica runs into Richard at the video store. Phoebe's new boyfriend unknowingly "hangs out of his shorts," to Chandler's horror.
14. "The One With Phoebe's Ex-Partner"- Phoebe reunites with a former musical collaborator. Chandler meets Ginger, the girl whose wooden-leg Joey threw in a fire.
15. "The One Where Ross & Rachel Take A Break"- After Rachel tells Ross she has to cancel their anniversary plans, he shows up at her office with a picnic basket. She tells him they need to take a break from their relationship and he then sleeps with Chloe, the hot girl from the copy store.
16. "The One With the Morning After"- Ross frantically tries to keep Rachel from finding out what he did, but Gunther spills the beans.
17. "The One Without the Ski Trip"- Rachel invites everybody besides Ross on a ski trip. On their way, the gang gets locked out of the car at a desolate rest stop.
18. "The One With the Hypnosis Tape"- Chandler has been listening to a hypnosis tape that's supposed to help him stop smoking. The only problem is, the tape's geared toward women and he starts acting very feminine.
19. "The One With the Tiny T-Shirt"- Mark confesses his crush to Rachel and asks her out. Ross and Rachel return each other's belongings.
20. "The One With the Dollhouse"- Monica inherits her Aunt Sylvia's dollhouse. Rachel's boss expresses her interest in Chandler.
21. "The One With A Chick & A Duck"- Joey gets a baby chicken (that Chandler names Yasmine). Chandler tries to dump the chick off at a shelter, but ends up bringing home a duck instead.
22. "The One With the Screamer"- Rachel's new boyfriend (Ben Stiller) turns out to have a raging temper, but it only shows in front of Ross.
23. "The One With Ross's Thing"- Ross discovers a growth on his lower back and he goes to see Phoebe's herbalist. Pheeb's is juggling two guys: a firefighter and a teacher.
24. "The One With the Ultimate Fighting Champion"- Pete, Monica's boyfriend, gets whipped in his Ultimate Fighting match. Phoebe asks Rachel if she can set Ross up with her friend, Bonnie, who used to be bald.
25. "The One At the Beach"- Phoebe and the gang head to Montauk, New York, so she can meet an old friend (also named Phoebe) of her mother's. During the trip, Rachel tricks Bonnie into shaving her head, which is a total turn-off for Ross, who ends up kissing Rachel.
