WWE WrestleMania 24 (2008) Review

WWE WrestleMania 24 (2008)

This years show did indeed have it's good, and it's bad. Although my hopes weren't too high for this years "Showcase of the Immortals" as the build up wasn't very well done in my oppinion, for a Wrestlemania anyway. Was it a good PPV? Answer: Yes, it was a BRILLIANT PPV! A good Wrestlemania? Well, for the most part, yes. A solid 4.5/5 in my oppinion. Now let's have a look at the matches while staying completely spoiler free.
John "Bradshaw" Layfield VS Finlay (w/Hornswoggle) in a Belfast Brawl
-It seemed suitable to open the show with this match as I always had fears the fans interest would wan during it. JBL is quite boring in the ring, and while I love Finlay as a wrestler, he isn't completely "over" yet. So I feared this match would be met with silence. Opening the show prevented that as it meant everything was freash for the fans. Unfortunately the match sucked. After the most build up out of any match (It dated all the way back to last year and the whole "Who is Vince's son?" angle), the most emotional storyline... we got, well we got nothing really. The "brawl" was nothing. Finlay's emotion leading up to WM was wasted. The match completely failed it's purpose.
CM Punk VS Shelton Benjamin VS Chris Jericho VS Carlito VS Montel Vontavious Porter VS Mr. Kennedy VS John Morrison in a Money in the Bank ladder match
-Good bump showcase. Not as good a match as previous years, but some awesome bumps. Seemed a bit unorganized though. Still, the winner truly deserved it, even if he was underused in the match. Shelton takes a bloody killer bump. I shared the same expression Carlito wears when it happened.

Umaga VS Batista
-This match didn't stand out at all. I don't think it was expected to though. Easily could've been done on a usual PPV or RAW/SD. Not WM worthy.
Kane VS Chavo Guerrero to win the ECW Championship
-Really, there was no one else that would've won this. And it's revealed early in the night so I don't consider it a spoiler. Kinda odd they didn't show the hyped on TV battle royal, but then again, WWE doesn't make sense often. Quick match, pretty pointless.
Ric Flair VS HBK in a career threatening match
-What an emotional match. Longtime wrestling fans are sure to be overcome with emotional during this match. A fantastic story is told in the ring, backed up solid ringwork. Besides the Money in the bank, this is the only other match so far that has had that unique WM feel.Beth Phoenix and Melina VS Maria and Ashley in a Playboy BunnyMania Lumberjill match
Lumberjills: Cherry, Eve Torres, Michelle McCool, Victoria, Mickie James, Jillian Hall, Katie Lea Burchill, Kelly Kelly, Layla and Maryse.
-I took a toilet break at the start of the match as I knew this match would be crap. A boring match made worse by a mishap during the match. Only worth watching for Snoop Dogg's entertainment. He's one cool cat.
HHH VS Randy Orton VS John Cena in a Triple Threat match to retain the WWE Championship
-The match was, alright. Didn't really tickle my fancy but I can see some people really enjoying it. Just fast forward John Cena's entrance... it's some goofy marching band entrance. Ergh! The end is quite unexpected and was well done.
Floyd Mayweather, Jr. VS The Big Show in a No Disqualification match
-This match was way better than I expected. Slow, but it had a big feeling to it. Which I found impressive, that they gained that bigtime feeling. A real shocking ending. Pure wrestling fans will despise it, but it's more entertaining than expected.
The Undertaker VS Edge to win the World Heavyweight Championship
-THIS is what Wrestlemania is about! What a main event! It had the big feeling to it and truly gave off the feeling anything can happen. The false finishes, reversals, everything was done beautifully. This match saved the show from being a 3 star Mania, to making it a 4-4.5 star mania!
As for the promo's and backstage segments... they were alright. Some entertaining ones. They all pretty much added to the WM feeling.
...Also, it looked SPECTACULAR in High-Def!!!
If possiable it should be watched in HD!
Every current wrestling fan should watch this, to see what the Mania "feeling" is. Because by the main event, the show is oozing that bigtime feel. Past fans... watch it for the classic Flair/HBK match and Edge/Taker match (Both 4- 4.5 star matches in my oppinion). Plus you get several good 3- 4 star matches. Skip the belfast brawl (which could've been good, considering the 2 wrestlers are excellent brawlers) and the Diva match.
The DVD/Blu-ray should also come with the Hall of Fame ceremony which makes this a worthy buy as we see the end of an era.
4- 4.5/5 Stars.

WWE - The Legacy of Stone Cold Steve Austin (2007) Review

WWE - The Legacy of Stone Cold Steve Austin (2007)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Stone Cold Steve Austin will go down as one of the biggest names in the history of the wrestling business and here is another DVD of matches from his past. For those looking for a documentry type set, check out "The Stone Cold Truth" as this DVD is in the format of how Hogan's anthology & RVD's was in that along with an anthology of matches with Austin commenting on certain things in between each match. Such subjects as his getting started in the business, his relationship with Brian Pillman, WCW, ECW, Austin 3:16, Mick Foley, being WWE Champion, The Rock, his neck injury & surgery amongst other things. Other extras include his WrestleMania 21 "Gladiator" commercial along with behind the scenes footage of it & him confronting Vince about NOT being his son.
Matches Include:
Steel Cage Match: WCW Tag Team Champions Hollywood Blondes vs. Dos Hombres - The story here is that Dos Hombres is actually Ricky Steamboat & "Shane Douglas" underneath a mask using the gimmick that Edge/Christian & Hardy Boyz would later use on each other during the Los Conquistidors angle in 2000. This wasn't their best encounter as it was really Tom Zenk under Douglas mask (Shane was released/fired before the PPV). The match itself wasn't bad but didn't top or match the calibur that all 3 men & the real Douglas have had earlier in the year.
Slamboree '93
(Also available on the Brian Pillman DVD)
vs. Flyin' Brian Pillman - This match came after the Blondes were split apart for "various reasons". It was around 10 minutes and really came off as a high intense grudge match. It was a good wrestling/brawling mixture.
Clash of the Champions XXV November 10, 1993
WCW United States Championship Match vs. Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat - Austin has said that Steamboat was his favorite guy to be in the ring with & you'll see why here as they gave a performance in a series of matches that would be overshadowed by the Hogan/Flair fued in WCW. This I believe was also Steamboat's last major match as he retired the next month.
Clash of the Champions XXVIII August 28, 1994
Steve A' Mania - His famous spoof of some wrestler who likes to wear red & yellow all the time...BROTHER!!!
Gangsta's Paradise September 16, 1995
(Also available on ECW "Deep Impact" & "Stone Cold Truth")
"No Baby That's For Somebody Else..." - Another Austin promo where he vents about how he was held down in WCW by politics & it ruined his passion for the business.
Hardcore TV October 10, 1995
(Also available on ECW "Path Of Destruction" & "Stone Cold Truth")
vs. ECW Champion Mikey Whipwreck vs. Sandman - This was Austin's second (and last) televised match in ECW & was better than his first one. The match itself was nothing much past that historical factor as it was mostly brawling between all three men.
ECW December 9, 1995
(Also available on ECW "Deep Impact")
Caribbean Strap Match vs. Savio Vega - Well they couldn't show the first one because you would be looking at a black screen the whole time so this was their "rematch" with the stipulation of if Austin lost, Ted Dibiase would leave WWE. Savio & Austin usually had a good series of underrated matches (look at WrestleMania 12) & this was no exception with some stiff whips from the straps at times including one that Austin gave Savio on the floor that was so loud, I felt the pain.
Beware of Dog 2 May 28, 1996
vs. Bret Hart - Bret Hart's return to WWE after WrestleMania 12 resulted in a lost classic that always gets overshadowed by their submission match at WrestleMania months later. I can try to describe this but this is one of those matches to me where words can't & it's actually my favorite encounter between these two.
Survivor Series November 17, 1996
vs. Yokozuna - This was one of Yokozuna's last TV appearences and this match was also really nothing special between the two past the ending where the top rope couldn't hold his weight for the bonzai drop & Austin took advantage.
SummerSlam Free-For-All August 18, 1996
The Terry Funk Confrontation - The story here was that this year's Royal Rumble was held in Texas so Texas legend Terry Funk was brought in for the event but he showed up on Shotgun the night before where Austin was as well. When you have two of the toughest S.O.B.'s in the ring together with, it resulted in a brawl with Funk being tossed into a trough at the end of the show.
Shotgun Saturday Night January 18, 1997
vs. WWE Champion Undertaker - This was more like Austin vs. Undertaker featuring the Hart Foundation because they were sitting at ringside & got involved various times throughout the match. Austin & Taker would go on to have better & classic matches but this one was still entertaining eventhough it's not as famous. This match was known for such funny moments like Austin pulling Owen Hart over the apron to beat him up followed by Taker punching Owen back over the rail and Austin giving Earl Hebner the "bird" after he low blowed Taker before both Taker & Hebner returned the favors to Austin.
Cold Day In Hell May 11, 1997
w/Shawn Michaels vs. WWE Tag Team Champions Owen Hart & British Bulldog - There's an old catchphrase to summerize this match..."The enemy of my enemy is my friend or the enemy of my enemy is my enemy?" Austin & Michaels couldn't get along but both hated the Hart Foundation so they were forced to team up and delievered a great main event as all four men are great workers.
RAW May 26, 1997
(Also available on "Monday Night War")
vs. Shawn Michaels - Since they couldn't get along, they got it on. Great match between the two that resulted in another lost classic here that is overshadowed by their WrestleMania match. They went around 30 mins. and both showed how "anti-authority" both men could be towards the end. As a side note, I hope they mute out the "first time tag team champions wrestled each other" line since Bulldog & Owen wrestled each other twice before this match.
King of the Ring June 8, 1997
WWE Tag Team Championship Match
w/Dude Love vs. Owen Hart & British Bulldog - Due to Shawn Michaels taking an absence from WWE, Austin needed a partner & Mankind kept asking but Austin said no because Mankind was a freak so the third face of Foley debuted...Dude Love (along with his dudettes). The rest of the match again was a good match as all four men were good workers.
RAW July 14, 1997
vs. WWE Intercontinental Champion Owen Hart - The infamous match that would plant the seed for Austin's neck problems as Owen Hart's piledriver left him paralized in the ring for a while resulting the worst looking cradle in the history of the business. The match before the incident was one of the best Intercontinental Title matches for that time but this is mostly known for that piledriver.
SummerSlam August 3, 1997
(Also available on "Stone Cold Truth" & the upcoming SummerSlam anthology)
WWE Championship Match vs. Dude Love - This was another match that gets overshowed by their most famous encounter (the next month at Over The Edge) however I wouldn't go as far as to call his a lost classic. The whole story here was if Vince McMahon was going to pull a "Montreal" on Austin & screw him out the title. Hense why there was a heavy focus on McMahon & the timekeeper at ringside. The match itself was good but their rematch was better with the highlight being the ending where Austin gave a chairshot to Vince.
Unforgiven April 26, 1998
First Blood Match for the WWE Championship vs. Kane - "If I do not win the title, I will set myself on fire!" That was Kane's own stipulation he put on this match. I guess you can call this an "unofficial" Hell In The Cell match because the Cell (which had the Taker/Mankind match earlier in the night) did come up & down at various times during this match & was used for such moments like Kane strattled on it & choking Austin while it was being lifted up along with it almost coming down on Austin's neck. The ending had Undertaker costing Austin his title by busting him open with a chair. This match not only continued the "Highway To Hell" storyline leading up to the SummerSlam match and also planted the seed for the first blood match between Austin & Taker that would happen a year later.
King of the Ring June 28, 1998
vs. WWE Champion Kane - Well not only do you get the beginning but you also get the end of Kane's only title reign as this was the rematch that happened the next night as Austin regained the championship.
RAW June 29, 1998
No Holds Barred WWE Championship Match vs. The Rock - The WrestleMania XV rematch with Shane McMahon as the special referee. The Rock had Austin's "Smoking Skull" belt & he wanted it back. Just like every Austin/Rock match, it went all over the place & you were highly entertained thoughout the match. The next chapter in a classic rivarly with a cameo appearence by Vince McMahon along with the debut of the RockCam.
Backlash April 25, 1999
vs. Eddie Guerrero - This was around 5 mins. & really nothing much to say here.
SmackDown! November 16, 2000
No Disqualification Match vs. Triple H - Eventhough Rikishi ran over Austin, Triple H was the man behind it as this fued heated up to another level in this match. The match was good quality between these two that would be topped in their next encounter (and the next match on this set) but this was more memorable for the ending where Triple H & his car fell off the top of a high lifted forklift. As a side note, Benoit's involvement was edited out.
Survivor Series November 19, 2000

Triple H: King of Kings - There is Only One (2007) Review

Triple H: King of Kings - There is Only One (2007)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As I stated on my "That Damn Good" DVD review...backstage politics aside, Triple H is one of the best performers in the industry today. He's for the in-ring presence of a modern day Harley Race with the charisma & diversity of Ric Flair. It's been a long time (over 5 years) since they dropped a DVD SOLEY on The Game & it will take the same format that Austin's & Hogan's latest releases are where they'll have his matches with comments in between on various incidents such as getting started in the business, time in WCW, Chyna, the curtain call, King Of The Ring including a funny story about the "crown" itself, the evolution (no pun intended) of his character, his quad injury, Shawn's return, Ric Flair, Batista, Edge & John Cena amongst other things.
Matches include: vs. John Crystal - This was his RAW debut & nothing special past that.
RAW May 1995
vs. WWE Intercontinental Champion Marc Mero - Triple H's first title reign began here as the whole plan involving the "mole" Mr. Perfect came to play as Perfect (who had problems with HHH and befriended Mero) turned on Mero to help HHH win the championship.
RAW Oct. 1996
King of the Ring Final Match vs. Mankind - This was the match that put him on the map & started his elevation into becoming who we know today. This was the most aggressive you've seen Triple H up to that time as he did things to Foley you haven't seen before like the pedigree through the announce table, Chyna breaking the scepter over his back, and Triple H not stopping the attack after he won the match.
King Of The Ring 1997
WWE European Championship Match vs. Owen Hart - The stipulation here was that Chyna was going to be handcuffed to Commissioner Sgt. Slaughter at ringside during the match. Triple H & Owen Hart worked a real good match here with the Chyna factor not really playing a fact until the end.
WrestleMania XIV
vs. WWE Champion Mankind - Mankind was inserted into the Austin/Triple H SummerSlam match & walked away the champion. This was the night after when Triple H captured his first of many World Championships.
RAW Aug. 1999
No Holds Barred WWE Championship Match vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin - This match always gets heavily overshadowed by their later encounters as they went hard in the ring & just had an out of control brawl out the ring include Austin "lowering the boom" on HHH. The ending involving The Rock doesn't take away from the match itself & was supposed to set up the Survivor Series match that wasn't meant to be due to Austin's injury.
No Mercy 1999
Career vs. WWE Title Hell in a Cell Match vs. Cactus Jack - Mick Foley's original retirement match as it was career vs. title here. After their classic Rumble street fight, this match didn't top it but did its job in letting Foley end his career with a bang. The story was about Foley promising to come off the cage onto Triple H so he had the cage locked so they couldn't get out but eventually found a way out after he missed hitting Triple H with the steel steps. The ending involving the flaming "Barbie" & Cactus on top the cell was something.
No Way Out 2000
30- Man Royal Rumble Match - They show everything after Triple H entered since he wasn't involved in the entire Rumble unlike how it was on Flair & HBK's DVD sets. Hunter's time in the Rumble involved a confrontation with Steve Austin, a comedic moment involving The Hurricane, the return of Mr. Perfect, and the final moments between him & Kurt Angle.
Royal Rumble 2002
3 Stages Of Hell Match vs. World Heavyweight Champion Shawn Michaels - The story here was will we see the "humble" Shawn Michaels or "Heartbreak Kid?" Just a side note but watch before the match gets started as Ric Flair kept getting into it with the referee to the point where he gets shoved on his ass...it's funny. The street fight was brutal as they didn't do a lot of weapons spots but just instead beat the hell out of each other & occasionally use weapons such as a flaming barbed wire board. The cage match was around 10 mins. with the only memorable spot being HBK's dive onto Triple H though a table. The ladder match wasn't the caliber of HBK's previous ladder matches but it was still good considering the circumstances with the finish of HBK falling off the ladder though loads of tables being a highlight to the point where WWE continued to use that footage in their "Don't try this at home" advertisement before any WWE home video.
Armageddon 2002
Hell In The Cell vs. World Heavyweight Champion Batista - Their third, last, and best encounter. Many hardcore weapons (barbed wire chairs for example) were used. Triple H bleeds buckets once again as Batista wins with a spinebuster on top of the ring steps.
Vengeance 2005
Last Man Standing Match vs. Ric Flair - Triple H brought out the best in Flair (at this day & age) in their feud. Triple H was ruthless while Flair wasn't giving up until HHH had to use the sledgehammer to put Flair down. I enjoyed their cage match better than this but I think they put this one on here since Triple H won the match here.
Survivor Series 2005
vs. WWE Champions John Cena vs. vs. Edge - The match was good with Triple H being heavily busted open & all three men working well together.
Backlash 2006
DVD Extras
Hog Pen Match vs. Henry Godwinn - I guess Triple H can laugh at himself because his was a "wrestlecrap" match that is really nothing special past the "blueblood" Hunter being tossed into a muddy pigpen complete with hogs.
In Your House Dec. 1995
1st Professional Match as Terra Ryzing vs. Flying Tony Roy - The match itself was nothing special but pretty funny to see the babyfaced Triple H with the mullet-like hairstyle back then. The commentary with Jim Ross & Triple H is the real highlight here.
Burlington, VT Jan. 1992
In the end, this collection is giving me exactly what I want from a DVD set. None of these matches are on other DVD sets (besides the PPV anthologies), they brought back the alternative commentary, highlight special moments in his career, and the match quality is there. The only thing I can think of that is missing is a match with The Rock since that was one of the biggest feuds from the attitude era. In the end, I recommend.

This Wrestlemania is pretty good here. Triple h vs orton shouldn't have been the main event, but still good ppv. Thanks for reading and please rate!
Money in the bank-Christian vs. Finlay vs. CM Punk vs. Mark Henry vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. Kane vs. MVP vs. Kofi Kingston
This match is great and very fast paced. I didn't think that it was worthy of being the opener. Great spots in this match like Benjamin doing a dive off the ladder on to everyone, kofi getting world strongest slammed on a ladder, hornswoggle doing the tad pole splash on everyone, christian saving himself and the ladder, and a huge cokeslam off the ladder. The wrong man won though later cashing in his money in the bank and screwing Jeff Hardy. This match also includes a lot of highflying moments and ladder use.
4/5
25 diva battle royal/miss.wrestlemania title
no comment.
0/5
Chris Jericho vs. Jimmy Snuka, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Ricky Steamboat
This match is pretty good. It could have been better, but still good. I didn't like the stipulation to this match(elimination) Not very good with jericho winning. But great moment when jericho got punched by Mickey Rourke.
3.5/5
Jeff hardy vs. Matt Hardy-Extreme rules
Great match here. A good use of weapons in this mach like a, trash can, vacuum cleaner, tables, chairs, ladders, creches, Kendo sticks, and a wm 25 poster. What a moment when Jeff missed a leg drop off a 16 ft, also, if you look closely, you can see Jeff go through the ring some. Also, awesome moment when Jeff dived off the top rope and made Matt go through tables. A very sick ending.
4/5
JBL vs. Rey Mysterio-Intercontinental Championship
This match is a total waste and is just a filler. This match is only 21 seconds, and was dominated by JBL before the match was even started, and mysterio finally wins the intercontinental title. Great moment when JBLOSER quit. FINALLY!!!!! No more blubber.
2/5
Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels
I hope you can say the word classic because that is what this match is. This match is fast paced through the entire match and is never boring, and was like all their other matches, really good, except this was a classic. This match totally deserved to be the main event, but sadly wasn't. This match is defanatly match of the night and match of the year. I really liked the buildup for this and that these two had a very good rivalry going. Great moments when Shawn missed the moonsaulet, and when undertaker dived on a camera man. I loved that the streak continues to 17-0. Awesome moment when taker kicked out of the sweet chin music and michaels kicked out of the tombstone. Best moment in the match when taker countered the moonsaulet into the tombstone for the win. This match is very entertaining and is one of the best WWE and Wrestlemania matches ever. It is also the second longest Mania' match ever.
5/5
John Cena vs. Edge vs. Big Show-World Heavyweight Championship
Good match, but a little short for a triple threat, but still good. This match was surprisingly brutal with Cena pulling off the win with a attitude adjustment on big slow and edge. Also, great moment in the match when edge made big slow go through the barricade. Also, who can forget the super human effort by cena when he picked up slow and edge on his shoulders. Good triple threat here.
4/5
Triple H vs. Randy Orton-WWE Championship
I don't have much to say about this match it is so stupid. This match is almost watchable, but not very good. This is more like a brawl than a match and didn't deserve to be the main event. I like how hhh kicked orton in the skull and hit him with the sledge hammer when the ref was down and got the pedigree for the win to retain. The only good thing about this match was the orton goes too far and eliminates the McMahon factor buildup.
3.5/5
Good Wrestlemania here. I recommend getting this and adding it to your wwe collection.

WWE - Mick Foley Greatest Hits & Misses - A Life in Wrestling (Hardcore Edition) (2004) Review

WWE - Mick Foley Greatest Hits and Misses - A Life in Wrestling (Hardcore Edition) (2004)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is just the same release as "Mick Foley's Greatest Hits and Misses' that was released four years ago in 2003. Only this time you will get an extra disk in the DVD set that comes with a couple of extra matches. Let me be clear...if you are a new fan of wrestling, this is ESSENTIAL!!! This has some of the greatest matches ever released. I will admit some are not as good as others, but there are some rare gems...
DISK 1:
Cactus Jack and Max Payne vs. The Nasty Boys:
Wild brawl from WCW that had the use of a lot of weapons, chairs, tables, and more than one wild spot! Cactus Jack at one point suplexes a table onto one of the nasty boys on the ramp leading to the ring in a great spot. However the Nasty Boys get the win after Cactus gets leveled with a shovel to the head...8/10
Cactus Jack vs. Sabu:
Many people actually believed one of these two would die because they were each that violent. The match is back and forth but many considered it a let down...even Mick himself. But nonetheless this is still an entertaining match and there were table spots, dont worry. Sabu at one point had Cactus on a table in the audience and did a moonsault off the top rope onto Cactus through the table! The ending was kinda cheap but Sabu wins a good fight. 7.5/10
Cactus Jack and Raven vs. Tommy Dreamer and Terry Funk:
There was not one wrestling move in this entire match! More and more weapons were used and Stevie Richards at one point makes an apperance but pays for it! Cant remember who wins, I am doing this review based on memory [yes, I have watched this DVD set that many times] but it was a great match to watch for the violence! 8.5/10
Other matches include
Cactus Jack vs. Vader
Cactus Jack vs. The Sandman [Texas Death Match]
Cactus Jack vs. Mikey Whipwreck [Cactus' last match in ECW]
DISK 2:
Mick Foley vs. Terry Funk:
This was one of the rarest matches that had Mick wrestle as himself. These two tore the roof down and it was even better because Stone Cold Steve Austin was on commentary! Tables, chairs, trashcans, and brutality is what resulted when these two legendary figures met in the ring! Mick Foley wins...9/10
Mankind vs. The Undertaker:
The famous Hell in a Cell match that had Mankind getting thrown twice off the roof of the cage; once on top of the announce table, the other through the roof of the cage. Thumbtacks and chairs would also make appearances in the match and Taker wins. 10/10
Cactus Jack vs. HHH:
The famous street fight from Royal Rumble 2000. Anything and everything was used. Barbed wire, thumbtacks, tables, steel steps, handcuffs, chairs, trashcans, sledghammers, just to name a few! Cactus at one point was handcuffed and took some brutal chair shots to the head, but fought back and sliced HHH's head open with his trusy barbed wire 2 by 4. HHH wins after pedigreeing Cactus face first onto a pile of tacks! 11/10
other matches include
HBK vs. Mankind [Mick calls it the greatest match in his career]
Mankind vs. The Rock [when foley won the title]
Cactus Jack vs. HHH [the first time these two fought, not the best but still really good]
and finally the third disk includes:
Cactus Jack vs. Randy Orton:
This is what the wwe was lacking the most in 2004...VIOLENCE!!! Luckily this is a rare treat that had Randy proving he has what it takes to go hardcore. Orton at one point fell back first onto a pile of tacks without a shirt on! His back looked like a pincushion! A huge board of barbed wire makes an appearance, as does chairs, cookie sheets, tables, and trashcans! Great match that Randy won. 10/10
Cactus Jack vs. Edge:
This was from last year, and it was also as brutal as any Cactus Jack match was. tacks, tables, fire, and barbed wire make appearances. Edge wins after spearing Foley through the ring ropes onto a table set on fire! 10/10
Cactus Jack vs. Ric Flair:
This was an I Quit match that had both men taking huge punishment. Foley at one point gave a scoop slam to Flair onto tacks, then flair fought back and knocked foley out of the ring right to the floor! Flair even gave his chops while wearing Mr. Socko wrapped in barbed wire! Flair wins in a cheap ending as Melina comes down and starts interfering...bad ending to a great feud and match. 9/10
the last match is Mick Foley and Edge vs. Tommy Dreamer and Terry Funk from ECW One Night Stand 2006 [VIOLENT MATCH]
There you have it, this is recommended if you have either lost your old copy of this previously released set or if you are a new, new fan of wrestling...This is highly recommended.

WWE - The Ladder Match (2007) Review

WWE - The Ladder Match (2007)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's amazing how a simple concept for a match (climb up a ladder & grab the belt) has spawn so many memorable moments in the history of professional wrestling and WWE picked out a wonderful collection of matches here to illistrate how the ladder match has spawn off so many memorable to classic moments in wrestling & was also the catalist for so many versions of this match including TLC, Stairway To Hell in ECW, and King Of The Mountain in TNA.
North American Champion Jake Roberts vs. Big Daddy Ritter (Junkyard Dog) - This was joined in progress and it was using a one sided ladder with the referees holding it steady while the wrestlers climbed up. Nothing special past the historical factor.
Stampede Wrestling '79
Intercontinental Champion Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels - Eventhough many remember WrestleMania X to be the first Ladder Match, this was truely the first one. For this match being the first of it's kind in WWE at the time, it's really something to see with how the ladder was used at times along with the "X" factor of Sherri getting involved at times.
July '92
Intercontinental Champion Shawn Michaels vs. Razor Ramon - I'm glad they put this one on here instead of their WrestleMania X one since most people forgot about it. This match was completely different than their previous on in that they didn't use the ladder as a weapon while both men knew each other so well that they were able to avoid each other's signature moves throughout the match. This one won't disappoint and if you want an idea of how comical WWF was back in '95, watch the HBK intro when they have a guy trying to sell you his merchandise at ringside (ala Home Shopping Network).
SummerSlam '95
Intercontinental Champion The Rock vs. Triple H - Eventhough Undertaker/Austin was the main event, this was the match that stole the show. HHH was selling a knee injury that he got earlier in the night while the Rock was just ruthless here with both Chyna & Mark Henry getting involved here. This was the highlight match of both men's career before they would go on to each win the World Title.
SummerSlam '98
Edge & Christian vs. New Brood (Hardy Boyz) - This was the match that put both teams on the map that would eventually plant the seeds for the future series of ladder/TLC matches featuring various members. Since this was the first tag team ladder match, it was non-stop action & never a dull moment.
No Mercy '99
(Hardy Boys: Leap Of Faith, Edge: Decade Of Decadance)
TLC Match: WWE Tag Team Champions Edge & Christian vs. Dudley Boyz vs. Hardy Boyz - The first TLC match and this was the one that topped their WrestleMania match months earlier. Again, this is one of those matches that I can't describe in words that you just have to watch.
SummerSlam '00
(Allied Powers: World's Greatest Tag Teams)
Shannon Moore & Shane Helms vs. Jamie Noble & Evan Karagis vs. Kaz Hayashi & Jimmy Yang - If you only know these guys from their runs in WWE then you don't know what your missing. This match was the match of the night at that PPV as it was the crusierweight division that was saving the WCW product at that time. It wasn't as crazy as the TLC matches in WWE but these guys put on one hell of a performance.
WCW Starrcade '00
Intercontinental Champion Chris Benoit vs. Chris Jericho - They took from brutal bumps & the chairshot delievered when Benoit went though the ropes was "hardcore" to say the least & is a classic in quality.
Royal Rumble '01
TLC Match: WWE Tag Team Champions Dudley Boyz vs. Hardy Boyz vs. Edge & Christian - TLC II followed the same patterns as their pervious matches with the exception this time being the involvement of Lita, Rhyno, and Spike Dudley. This match has the highlight reel of Edge (off the top of the ladder) spearing Jeff Hardy (who was hanging from the belt hooks) all the way to the floor that WWE still uses in some promotional videos today.
WrestleMania X-7
(Hardy Boyz: Leap Of Faith)
TLC Match: WWE Tag Team Champions Chris Jericho & Chris Benoit vs. Dudley Boyz vs. Hardy Boyz vs. Edge & Christian - This match is known as the "forgotten TLC" for various reasons such as Edge not acknowling this match when he kept saying "I never lost a TLC match." Jericho & Benoit pulled off some spots not seen in the previous ones such as a headbutt off the top of a ladder though a table that led to his eventual neck surgery.
"SmackDown" May '01
Intercontinental Champion Christian vs. Edge - With both men having so much experience in a ladder match with each other, this match certainly had it's moments when they went against each other. The ladder here was used as a weapon various times along with making a regular move more impactful. This had it's various moments like Christian getting crotched & later being snapped off the top rope onto the ladder, both falling off the ladder onto the floor, and Edge getting his reciepts on all the acts Christian did to him over the past two months.
No Mercy '01
Intercontinental Champion Eddie Guerrero vs. Rob Van Dam - This match had a style of both of them using the ladder to make their normal moves more high impactful with Eddie heavily dominating while constantly targeting RVD's face. These was very intense and was without a doubt one of the best matches on WWE TV for that year.
"RAW" May '02
(Eddie Guerrero: Cheating Death, Stealing Life)
WWE Undisputed Champion Undertaker vs. Jeff Hardy - The story behind this match was Undertaker just delivering a beating to Jeff Hardy who just refused to quit & give up...to the point where Taker just had to do what he had to do after the match.
"RAW" July '02
TLC Match: World Tag Team Champion Kane vs. Rob Van Dam & Jeff Hardy vs. Bubba & Spike Dudley vs. Chris Jericho & Christian - They advertise Hurricane for this match but he wasn't in it. High spots all over the place along with high impact moves to the point to where Bubba Ray suffered such a concussion that he doesn't remember the match to this day.
"RAW" Oct. '02
(RAW: 10th Anniversary DVD)
Intercontinental Championship Match: Chris Jericho vs. Christian - These two were feuding with each other for months over Trish Stratus but after going through regular matches, handicap matches, and cage matches (where Christian injured his back & was out of action for months) they settled their score in a ladder match for the Intercontinental Championship after Edge had to forfit the title due to injury. This match was more about trying to tell a story throughout the match instead of doing a bunch of "highspots" & turned out to be a great match.
Unforgiven '04
Money In The Bank Ladder Match: Chris Jericho vs. Chris Benoit vs. Shelton Benjamin Kane vs. Edge vs. Christian - I was here LIVE & to quote Joey Styles "OH MY GOD!" The showstealer here though was Shelton Benjamin as he looked like Spiderman with the majority of the moves he was pulling off involving the ladders. As a side note, watch Kane's intro because that was something to see with the ladders on fire.
WrestleMania 21
Rey Mysterio vs. Eddie Guerrero - It was a great ladder match eventhough the storyline got stupid with the whole "Dominic is my son" thing going on (well, it did result in the "I'm Your Papi" shirt so I guess it's not all bad). Lots of interference from Vicki Guerrero & Dominic himself but it didn't ruin the match itself.
SummerSlam '05
Loser Leaves RAW Match: Matt Hardy vs. Edge - The final encounter between these two in this very personal feud against each other and as you expected, this was a fight with weapons like a table also getting involved here while Lita played a big role in this match from beginning to end. This doesn't live up to the previous ladder matches these two have had but it was still good. "RAW" Oct. '05
TLC Match: WWE Champion Edge vs. Ric Flair - At this stage in Flair's career, this was a completely new enviroment for him as this was his very first ladder match with his daughter at ringside. This match was more about "how can Flair take this punishment as his age" than anything else as Edge targeted Flair's head after he suffered the concussion the week before resulting in his entire face being the classic "crimson mask". Flair gave out the much punishment here as well as he recieved it & this was a very impressive performance from Ric Flair in this being his first time doing this type of match.
"RAW" Jan. '06
WWE Champion Edge vs. John Cena - Cena was of course booed out the building due to the fact they were in Edge's hometown but that's when Cena is at his best (remember One Night Stand). Again, both men brought their A game & resulted in a great main event with plenty of highlight moments including the final "F-U" to Edge towards the end.
Unforgiven '06
(John Cena: My Life)
Intercontinental Champion Johnny Nitro vs. Jeff Hardy - This was the match for me that put Nitro on the map as a "superstar of the future" as he was able to hold his own & surpass the previous RAW ladder matches with the ladder match veteran in Jeff Hardy. This was just another match in their great series of matches but look out for the swanton on the ladder by Jeff Hardy.
"RAW" Nov. '06
WWE Tag Team Champions Paul London & Brian Kendrick vs. William Regal & Dave Taylor vs. MNM vs. The Hardys - We all know what the Hardys & MNM can do based on their past so mix that with the daredevil style London & Kendrick adapted along with the fact that Regal & Taylor didn't look out of place with their mat wrestling style as well. And watch out for that SICK spot where Joey Mercury's face gets crushed...Read more›

WWE - The Shawn Michaels Story: Heartbreak & Triumph (2007) Review

WWE - The Shawn Michaels Story: Heartbreak and Triumph (2007)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Unlike how the 3 disc sets of Rey Mysterio & Hulk Hogan were their career anthologies & used matches they had on their other DVD's, that isn't the case here. This 3 disc set isn't a replacement for his previous released DVD sets (both DX DVD's & "From The Vault") but another HBK set to add to that collection as none of the matches on the previous DVD sets are used here along with a documentry on his life & career.
The documentry kicks off talking about Shawn growing up on an air force base & becoming a wrestling fan at age 12 to the point where he started doing Ric Flair promos & wrestling in his pool. Shawn tried college but quit to get trained by Jose Lathario & started in World Class & Mid-South Wrestling. The next story is how he met Marty Jannetty in Kansas City & brought him up to the AWA a month after he was there. They're "life in the fastlane" lifestyle & the fued between Doug Sommers & Buddy Rose over the AWA tag team titles is talked about next along with how it lead to them coming to the WWE before Jimmy Jack Funk led to them getting fired. They're experience in working Continental Wrestling and alternating between Memphis & the AWA before making it back to the WWE is discussed. They're second run in WWE is discussed along with the story behind their tag title win being recalled & erased from the record before the story behind their breakup & the impact of the Barber Shop segment that happened between Shawn & Marty. Shawn's morphing from The Rocker into the Heartbreak Kid with Sensational Sherri (R.I.P.) giving him credibility, Mr. Perfect coining the nickname "Heartbreak Kid", and the importance of the Intercontinental Title. The story behind Shawn bringing in Kevin "Diesel" Nash (and what Rick Steiner had to do with it) is briefly talked about before moving on to why he was suspended in late 1993 & how that indirectly planted the seeds for the WrestleMania 10 ladder match. How the Kliq was formed along with what exactly they're "backstage power" was along with various opinions of the group by people such as Vince & Ted Dibiase is talked about. The story behind the WrestleMania 11 match with Diesel is talked about before the story behind Shawn being attacked in a New York nightclub and how Triple H came up with the idea for Shawn to do the "Owen Hart" angle where Shawn passed out. Who's idea it was for the WrestleMania 12 Ironman match along with how Shawn trained for it is talked about next before they go into detail about how Shawn was very bitter & heavily opinionated despite being the champion at the time. A very interesting part was Shawn, Triple H, and Vince giving their sides of the story behind the infamous "curtain call" in Madison Square Garden. Shawn's homecoming at the Royal Rumble '97 was briefly discussed before his forfitting the title because of the knee injury in Feb. '97 is talked about along with what his mom had to do about him "losing his smile." His Hell In The Cell match with Taker & pushing the envilope with DX are both talked about before moving on to Survivor Series '97, how involved HBK really was with the whole incident, and how that effected him backstage is heavily discussed. HBK's injury in the Royal Rumble casket match and wrestling though the injury at WrestleMania 14 while being bitter about passing the torch to Austin is talked about. How Shawn found his wife Rebecca (who he saw on WCW Monday Nitro), got married, and had a child is discussed along with Shawn's heavy downward spiral that led an incident backstage at RAW the week before WrestleMania that resulted in his falling out with Triple H before he found religion though his wife's bible study. The return to WWE is talked about next along with what exactly Triple H had to do with. How important the WrestleMania 19 match with Jericho was along with the heavy details about why the fued with Hulk Hogan resulted in HBK being a heel for a month is talked about. His fued with HBK along with "infamous" McMahonism/God angle is talked about before they go into the DX reunion & why Shawn wouldn't go where he did with the original DX. The documentry closed out with the WrestleMania 23 match with John Cena & how Triple H's injury figured Shawn into the title picture along with how everything was on HBK (not John Cena) to deliever.
DVD extras include the debut of his "Heartbreak Hotel" interview segment, hie "Tell Me A Lie" music video, and his infamous Larry King Live spoof of Hulk Hogan. There were tons of interview outtakes & bonus stories such as Shawn earning his letterman's jacket as a sophmore in high school, how his mom approves of his outfits, the backstage fight that started the Rockers breakup, his wrestling school that produced Lance Cade & Brian Kendrick, discussion of his WrestleMania 21 match against Kurt Angle, Shawn's thoughts about the ladder he used at WrestleMania 23, and Triple H & Chris Jericho talking about the HORRIBLE brown tights Shawn wore at Survivor Series 2002. Hidden extras include a story about heaving trouble learning his left hand from his right, a Midnight Rockers promo from the AWA, the Hardys talking about HBK's influence in a ladder match they had at a fair, Tully Blanchard talking Hogan's reaction to a match he had with Rockers, and Marty Jannetty talking about the Rockers reunion.
Matches Include:
Midnight Rockers vs. AWA Tag Team Champions Buddy Rose & Doug Somers - This isn't the bloothbath match that happened on the "From The Vault" DVD but the match where they finally won the AWA tag team championship.
AWA Feb. 10/87
2 Out Of 3 Falls Match: The Rockers vs. WWE Tag Team Champions Hart Foundation - This IS the 2 out of 3 falls match that was taped for Saturday Night's Main Event in which The Rockers won the tag team titles only to have the decision reversed & erased from the record books due to the top rope malfunction. This is the first time this match has been seen anywhere. For those looking for when the malfuction happened, it was during the second fall.
October '90
vs. Intercontinental Champion British Bulldog - This match happened the week before that years Survivor Series & was Bulldog's last match in the WWF until he returned in '94. The story here was HBK working on Bulldog's back which was injured during the match & HBK winning his first I.C. title after Bulldog couldn't hold the superplex off the top rope.
Sat. Night Main Event Nov. 8/92
Royal Rumble Battle Royal - This was the Rumble where Shawn made history by entering #1 & winning the Rumble after pulling off that infamous ending where one foot hit the floor instead of both. This Rumble didn't have the same format as the usual Rumble's as the entries didn't happen every two mins. Other moments to look out for besides Shawn's performance in the Rumble are Bulldog's performance & Bret Hart getting revenge on those who attacked him in his title match earlier in the night.
Royal Rumble '95
vs. Intercontinental Champion Jeff Jarrett - About time they put this match on DVD because this is a "lost classic." This was not only a great wrestling match (one of Jarrett's best in his WWF history) but also the story of each man trying to show off & "one-up" each other thoughout the match added to it by Jarrett doing HBK's pose on the top turnbuckle or Shawn doing Jarrett's strut. Again, a lost classic that finally made it's way to DVD.
In Your House Jul. 23/95
The Rockers vs. La Resistance - This was the Rockers reunion that happened on RAW to further the storyline between himself & Kurt Angle who was facing Jannetty on SmackDown later that week. La Resistance were just bodies for The Rockers to get over on but what was real impressive was how they worked together like the Rockers of old eventhough they haven't teamed together for over 13 years.
RAW Mar. 14/05
vs. Kurt Angle - The sequel to their classic at WrestleMania 21 & this match was no different than the last one in which it had you on the edge of your seat going "ohh & aww" thoughout the bout. I can't describe this match except for it was a classic that you have to see.
Vengeance '05
vs. John Cena - One of the longest "bell to bell" matches in RAW history here. This heavily made up & surpassed their WrestleMania match here. They went close to an hour which you don't see anymore these days in WWE and boy, what a match it was. This was the best HBK/Cena encounter that's happened dating back to their brief series together in 2005.
RAW Apr. 23/07
Other matches include Rockers matches vs. Super Ninja & Super Go, Brain Busters (MSG 1989), and Orient Express (Rumble '91). Solo matches include vs. Billy Jack Haynes in WCCW, British Bulldog (King Of The Ring '96) and Triple H (Dec. '03).
In the end, this DVD set reminds me of how Bret Hart's was in which it doesn't include his most memorable & high profile matches that haven't been put on DVD sets yet such as his matches with Triple H (Last Man Standing from Rumble '04, HITC from Bad Blood '04, Boot Camp Match from the Christmas RAW in '04) but more of his rare performances which makes this one unique set to pick up if your a HBK fan. Personally, I would have liked to seen the Boot Camp match with HHH from RAW since that was very emotional for HBK growing up around the military along with his Gold Rush tournament match against Shelton Benjamin...but like always, you can't win them all. If your just looking for more of his high profile & memorable matches, "From The Vault" might suit you better but this is a DVD set I would recommend.
