You will see real divas like Ivory and Teri in fantastically skimpy lingerie. Let's face it , the wwe will probably never again have the "testicular fortitude" to make this kind of dvd again. For those true fans of true divas, I recommend buying it before it goes out of print.

WWE - Rey Mysterio 619 (2003) Review

(More customer reviews)I happened to get this DVD as an extra when I bought my WrestleMania 22 set at Wal-Mart. This was similar to alot of the WWE DVD's that came out during that time (ala "Hulk Still Rules" & "nWo: Back In Black") where the extras heavily made up for the lackluster documentry. This documentry was done with a mix of reality & "storyline" which actually hurt it greatly. Throughout various parts, they kept putting over A-Train for injuring Mysterio during a SmackDown match in Dec. of '02 when reality is that Mysterio needed minor knee surgery & was out for a month yet they put it over as it was a major injury like Austin's neck or Triple H's quad. Also, they completely ignore the fact that fans who watched WCW after 1999 have seen Mysterio without his mask yet WWE chose to re-write history and completely ignore it to the point where all parts where his face is slightly shown, it's blurred out. WWE didn't obtain the ECW footage yet so that time period was completely ignored as well.
The documentry itself covers his time growing up & training to become a wrestler including a visit to his old school training ground in Tajuana. His time in WCW is glossed over including his fued with Dean Malenko & the fued with Eddie Guerrero leading up to their classic at Halloween Havoc '97. The prestige of his mask is also talked upon before getting into his debut in WWE. The stories around his matches with Kurt Angle at SummerSlam '02 and his tag team partnership with Edge leading up to his WrestleMania 19 match with Matt Hardy close out the documentry itself. You also get a "MTV Cribs" view of Mysterio's house along with him getting a new tattoo out in San Diego are also shown.

w/Latin Lover & Heavy Metal vs. Madonna's Boyfriend, Fuerza Guerrera, Psicosis - A great display of how AAA wrestling down in Mexico is done as you can get a glimpse of Rey early in his career.

("Rey Mysterio: Biggest Little Man")
vs. WCW Crusierweight Champion Dean Malenko - This was the match that put Mysterio & WCW's crusierweight division on the map in the United States. Malenko's groundbased style mixed perfectly with Rey's lucha libre to put on the first crusierweight classic match since the Pillman/Liger series 5 years earlier.
WCW Great American Bash '96
("Rey Mysterio: Biggest Little Man")
vs. Psychosis - While the match at The Bash established Mysterio, this was the match that really established the lucha libre influence into the new crusierweight division as Rey & Psychosis had a match full of submissions, over the top rope, high flyin' moves between both men that made you pay attention as you didn't see much of that from WCW at that time.
WCW Bash At The Beach '96
vs. WCW Crusierweight Champion Dean Malenko - Very similar to the previous match except it was shorter & Rey got his first crusierweight championship win.
"WCW Nitro" July '96
("Rey Mysterio: Biggest Little Man")
vs. Eddie Guerrero - Most peopel concider this the best match in WCW crusierweight history. The storytelling here was right on point with Eddie going after Rey's mask from time to time while showcasing the high flyin' & ground based lucha libre style. Classic match, no questions asked.
WCW Halloween Havoc '97
("Rey Mysterio: Biggest Little Man" & "Cheating Death, Stealing Life: The Eddie Guerrero Story")
vs. Chris Jericho - This was setup to originally be a No Disqualification Match between Jericho & Dean Malenko but due to Malenko breaking a "no contact" clause, he lost his title shot opening the door for Mysterio to make his return (in his hometown of San Diego) to get revenge for Jericho putting him out of action earlier in the year. This was a pretty short match but they would go on to better ones in the future as this was more about furthering the Jericho/Malenko feud than anything else.
WCW Bash At The Beach '98
vs. Chavo Guerrero - Mysterio's WWE debut with Chavo just being a body for Mysterio to showcase what he can do against with Chavo getting a few a few moves in here & there.
"SmackDown" July '02
("Rey Mysterio: Biggest Little Man")
vs. Kurt Angle - This was their SummerSlam rematch & Kurt started it off being overconfident by taking Mysterio lightly before Mysterio showed up Mysterio with his speed. It was a good battle of Mysterio's speed vs. Angle's power that ranks right up there with their SummerSlam encounter.
"SmackDown" Sept. '02
vs. Kurt Angle & Chris Benoit - Benoit & Angle were so focused on their own personal issues that they kept Mysterio out of the match various times early before Mysterio made sure he wasn't going to be overlooked. You know you can't go wrong with Angle & Benoit in the same match while Rey's lucha style only added to the match.
"SmackDown" Sept. '02
vs. Jamie Noble - This was a pretty short & sweet between these two that wasn't anything noteworthy.
"SmackDown" Mar. '03
As a side note, the WCW matches are shown from opening bell to closing bell so you don't see the entrances or the celebrations afterwards due to them not having the rights to the WCW music. DVD extras include hidden video packages promoting Mysterio's WWE debut & Rey talking about his theme music.
The extra matches heavily made up for the documentry here but the bottom line is that this DVD came out too quickly in Mysterio's WWE career and since this release, WWE has put out a 3 disc set featuring half of the matches on here along with more from this WWE career after this DVD was produced & even footage from ECW that WWE didn't have yet. So unless your a huge Mysterio fan & have to have everything associated with him, this is a release you can skip & get the new "Biggest Little Man" set.

World X Cup Elimination Match: Team TNA (Curry Man, Alex Shelley, Chris Sabin) vs. Team International (Alex Koslov, Doug Williams, Tyson Dux) vs. Team Japan (Milano Collection A.T., Masato Yoshino, Puma), vs. Team Mexico (Ultimo Guerrero, Rey Bucanero, Averno) - All I can say is holy crap, this is one hell of a opening match & X division matches that that I can remember seeing in quite a while. They went over 20 mins. & was just resembled the what TNA means...total nonstop action & worthy of the "this is awesome" chants. Look towards the end when Team Japan's Masato Yoshino goes for an off the top rope dropkick onto Alex Shelley, it almost looks like he was in slow motion in midair.
Gail Kim vs. Angelina Love - A nice average match...nothing really noteworthy here.
Jay Lethal vs. Sonjay Dutt - They went back & forth with Lethal eventually being more aggressive at times than he normally is to the point where even Val got worried & kept trying to talk some sense into Lethal which backfired in the end. Solid match overall.
"Fans Revenge" Lumberjack Match: Tag Team Champions L.A.X. vs. Beer Money Inc. (Robert Roode & James Storm) - For those who didn't see the last one at No Surrender '06...the Fans' Revenge Match is a lumberjack match where the lumberjacks are regular fans & they have leather straps to use whenever Roode or Storm leaves the ring. With the fans being heavily biased towards L.A.X. (even wearing L.A.X. shirts to ringside), Jackie refused to come to ringside before the match started & that was put over throughout the entire match as Storm & Roode where just strapped nonstop every single time they left the ring yet Homicide was able to go out & drink Storm's beer right at the beginning with no problems. Concidering the stipulation, the match was average.
TNA Womens Champion Taylor Wilde vs. Awesome Kong - In a nutshell, Kong dominated Taylor a majority of the match with Taylor getting a few quick shots & pin attempts here & there before reversing Kong's powerbomb into a foward roll. I personally didn't care for this match & was a step down from Kong's previous series with Kim & O.D.B. The only thing noteworthy was how the crowd was more for Kong than Wilde.
World X Cup Finals/Ultimate X Match: Kaz (Team TNA) vs. Daivari (Team International) vs. Naruki Doi (Team Japan) vs. Volador Jr. (Team Mexico) - Team TNA was in the lead for this match but Kaz (leader of Team TNA) had a hurt arm throughout the bout that effected him right from the start. This reminded me of how King Of The Mountain was at Slammiversary in that it wasn't the best one they've done but it wasn't a bad match either. Various spots to look out for was Davari shoving Doi off the top of the side structure, Kaz backflipping Doi who ended up doing a low blow headbutt onto Volador (who was hanging off the cables) on the way down, and the insane leg drop from Kaz off the top of the steel structure onto Davari who was crawling across the cables.
Full Metal Mayhem Match: AJ Styles, Christian Cage, Rhino vs. Kurt Angle & Team 3D - TNA had the fans vote throughout the PPV on weather this was going to be a Tables Match, Falls Count Anywhere, or the match that Rhino asked for & won the vote in Full Metal Mayhem...and for those wondering, Full Metal Mayhem is TNA's version of a TLC match except you win by pin/submission. This match made up for the Ultimate X match in terms of all the crazy spots & just chaos all over the ring such as Cage's dive off the Ultimate X structure onto Angle & 3D, Team 3D's double teams through tables like the 3D on Christian & a doomsday device on Rhino that injured Devon's ankle. Overall, this was a very fun match.
TNA Champion Samoa Joe vs. Booker T - This PPV was a homecoming for Booker T as they had video footage of Booker visiting various places in Houston throughout the night such as his wrestling school & his house to heavily put Booker over as having the "hometown advantage" even down to the fans cheering Booker & had a "If Joe Wins, We Riot" sign (please try to be original when doing your signs people). This was an above average match with Joe being busted open early & showing the effects of it throughout the match. The bigger issue was the "controversal" ending where Sharmell slapped Joe on the outside and it caused Joe to snap & going nuts on everyone from referees to security while beating on a bleeding Booker T before Sting eventually showed up & did 'what he had to do" before Sharmell counted Booker's fall on Joe & walking out with the TNA Title.
In the end, the only bad match for me at least as Widle/Kong but the rest of the card had matches ranging from average to solid with the heavy standouts being the opening match & Full Metal Mayhem. In the end, the PPV was enjoyable.HARD JUSTICE 2008
X Division Champion Petey Williams vs. Consequenses Creed - They didn't do anything heavily fast paced or "spotty" like the sterotypical X division match but this was a good solid encounter between the two with Petey always looking for the Canadian Destoryer but Creed was able to keep countering the move with Rhaka Khan & Sheik Abdul Bashir (WWE's Davari) getting involved at times. One moment to look out for was when Creed attempted a somersault senton but ended up hitting his back on the apron on the way outside the ring.
Taylor Wilde, Gail Kim, ODB vs. The Beautiful People Awesome Kong w/Traci Brooks as the special referee - This was a fun match featuring all the main Knockouts that would have been worthy of being on their DVD set if it happened earlier. This was a tag match that had everyone get their moment to shine along with good storytelling involving Awesome Kong's dominance along with some comedic moments like O.D.B. "freshing up" with Velvet Sky's spray. Fun tag match.
TNA Tag Team champions L.A.X. vs. Beer Money Inc. - Unlike how their gimmick match was last month, this was a more old school regular tag team match between both teams that went back & forth between both teams with some standout moments like Hernandez "border tossng" Homicide over the top rope onto Beer Money outside the ring & even the managers/valets getting into it on the outside at one time. Great match that saw Beer Money win the Tag Team Titles.
Black Tie Brawl N' Chain Match: Jay Lethal vs. Sonjay Dutt - For those who don't understand the title of the match, this was a tuxedo/chain match that quite honestly was a stepdown from their Victory Road match because of the gimmick stipulations involved. They tried but I just couldn't get into this one & was the only flop of the night to me.
Jersey Street Fight: Christian Cage & Rhino vs. Team 3D - When you mix the words "street fight" & "Team 3D", you'll get exactly what you expect in that it was a brawl that went all over the place. From brawling in the crowd to the ringside area to inside the ring itself. There were tons of fun moments to watch like the old school ECW "Use My Sign" spot, Christian Cage's frog splash off the top of a ladder, and Rhino giving a gore into a table that didn't give. Fun brawl to watch but look out for what happened with Johnny Devine & Abyss making cameos after the match.
Last Man Standing: AJ Styles vs. Kurt Angle - Eventhough this was labeled a "Last Man Standing" match, this is in reality a traditional "Texas Death Match" with the difference between the two matches being that in this case, you have to score a pinfall/submission fall before the referee starts counting the other wrestler out. Just like their Slammiversary match, these two put on one hell of a wrestling match as they worked a great mat based match along with getting more aggressive as the match went on with moments like Kurt suplexing A.J. into the steel guardrail, both men attempting each others finishing moves on each other, the move that ended the match that will make you cringe, and the aftermath that caused Sting to make an appearence. Once again, Angle & A.J. gave us the match of the night.
Six Sides Of Steel Weapons Cage Match: TNA champion Samoa Joe vs. Booker T - Just like the Lethal/Dutt match, this was a heavy drop from their match last month at Victory Road because of the way the match was set up. This was similar to the last cage match Joe had with Kurt Angle at LockDown where they were trying to go one way but when that wasn't working, they switched to something else in that it was both men using the weapons non-stop right from the start but then went back to having a wrestling match. Besides the ending with the gutair that set the stage for the upcoming months in TNA, this was a nice match for what it was but nothing special.
In the end, the only real flop here was the Lethal/Dutt match because of the heavy gimmick overload involved & I thought the Joe/Booker rematch was disappointing due to it also being real gimmicky at the beginning & not given alot of time to do much with eventhough they made the best of it. But besides that, it was just like Slammiversary in that the rest of the card was completely enjoyable.
NO SURRENDER 2008
No Surrender turned out to be one of those PPV's like how the recent Turning Point & LockDown events where it just seemed like nothing was clicking or standing out to make this seem like an event where is you skip it, you aren't missing anything. This PPV had some of the weakest showings from their divisions in a long time (Taylor Wilde vs. Angelina Love & Beer Money vs. L.A.X.), trying to reuse concepts that just didn't work at all (the Mixed Martial Arts match between A.J. Styles vs. Frank Trigg that resulted in "We Want Wrestling" & "Fire Russo" chants that that TNA production team did a close up of the crowd when they were chanting it), and matches that ranged...Read more›

WWE - Lita - It Just Feels Right (2001) Review

(More customer reviews)Lita: It Just Feels Right is a documentry based on the flame haired divas time in the WWE. There is also lots of childhood pictures and personal footage of her home. It is a nice program which covers her rise to fame, highlighting her greatest moments, alliances and title wins. If you are a Lita fan this is definately worth buying. The DVD contains a wealth of good extras, ranging from a huge total of 10 extra matches to some video packages. There is also some amusing home video clips. The boxart is quite attractive, with a picture of Lita surrounded with a pink background. There is an insert card inside telling you all the chapters and extras. I will run through both the chapters and extras:
Main Feature:
Who is Lita? - This chapter has comments on Lita from the Hardy brothers, Trish Stratus, Stephanie McMahon and Jim Ross. It then has some introductory talking from Lita and then the music opening hits.
Big Break - A good chapter, focusing on Litas break into the independant scene. Lita then shows a collection of masks she keeps in her home kitchen. There is some fascinating OMEGA footage, and it then disscusses Litas big break into the WWE, along with her alliance with Essa Rios.
Lita Teams Up - This chapter is all about Litas alliance with the Hardy Boyz. It has several match clips from Fully Loaded and Smackdown, and also feautures the big kiss angle between Lita and Matt Hardy.
Superstar - An intresting chapter which includes Wrestlemania footage of Litas Wrestlemania debut, along with comments from Lita.
vs. Stephanie - This covers Litas feud with Stephanie in mid 2000. It shows most of the match, along with commentery from both Stephanie and Lita. Steph disscusses a injury she almost got, and Lita talks about winning the strap/
Bumpy Road - This has lots of Survivor Series 2000 footage of Lita battling Ivory. This was when Lita got a nasty cut above her eye, but still finished the match. It has some unique footage of Lita talking to her Mum after the match, and footage of Lita and her dog at home.
vs. Trish - A video package of the feud between the two divas, and highlights of the HHH/Trish vs. Rock/Lita Raw tag match. Includes comments from Trish.
vs. Chyna - Short chapter which just reviews Litas match with Chyna at Judgment Day.
Love and Hate - One minute music video covering her feud with Dean Malenko.
Diva-Licious - Lots of Hedonism footage of the divas shoot, with lots of nice swimsuit scenes with Lita. Lita also describes how she came up with the thong sticking out of pants look.
Admirers - Lita talks about her fans, and shows all the scrapbooks and merchandise she has recieved off fans. Look out for a very artistic portrait of Lita.
Bright Future - Final comments from everyone, with Lita describing what she would like to acheive in the future, along with some good in ring footage of Lita.
The main feature lasts around 60 minutes.

Obviously, this is a must have for Lita fans. The main feauture is great and very informative on Litas career. The extras aren't too shabby either, with over 80 minutes of extra footage. It gives a nice insight on Lita, and it is well worth adding this to your DVD library.
Final Rating - Five Stars (*****) Excellent.

WWE: Summerslam: The Complete Anthology (2008) Review

(More customer reviews)*****Nov. 2008 - I just want to go on record and say that I think SUMMERSLAM 2008 is a great PPV. I have a more detailed review somewhere in my Profile, if you'd like to read it. My ANTHOLOGY review is below. *****I'm gonna give you two reviews for the price of one:

SUMMMERSLAM ANTHOLOGY REVIEW
---I'd wager that most haven't seen the first few SUMMERSLAM PPVs. While they're not very memorable, they're still worth a look. For example, from the first SUMMERSLAM back in 1988, everyone knows how Ultimate Warrior squashed Intercontinental champion Honky Tonk Man in 30 seconds. But hopefully, newcomers will be more awed by the excellent Tag Team Titles Match between The Hart Foundation and Demolition. Plus, the main event between "Mega Powers" Hulk Hogan & Randy Savage against Ted Dibiase's "Mega Bucks" team is an entertaining star-power showcase. 1988 was a solid event, and definitely warranted a follow-up the next year.
Sadly, I think 1989 is best remembered for its outstanding opener and for its cheap finale. The Hart Foundation against The Brain Busters (Tully Blanchard & Arn Anderson) is a classic that Tag Team fans will love. But I always thought that the main event (Hulk Hogan & Brutus Beefcake against Zeus & Randy Savage) felt like an expensive plug for the movie 'No Holds Barred'. Besides, it wasn't an entertaining match.
Ultimate Warrior and Rick Rude have a solid Steel Cage Match for the WWF Title for 1990's SUMMERSLAM, and Hulk Hogan against Earthquake ain't too bad of a co-main event, either. But Demolition and Hart Foundation once again stole the show with another Tag Team Titles masterpiece. Man, tag action was the real deal back then.
Bret Hart and "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig were never boring to watch. But in August 1991, their technical classic was one of their best ever. If Hitman wasn't yet a superstar, then August 1991 was his biggest push. His IC Title victory got people almost as excited as the main event: a 3-on-2 Handicap Match with Sgt. Slaughter's "Iraqi" team against Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior. Although Warrior's alleged backstage powerplay might cast a dark cloud over things, the match is quite entertaining in its own right. Oh, and I don't care what anyone else says...that Savage/Elizabeth wedding is touching...even if it was a few years late.
Big props to the World Wrestling Federation for letting Bret Hart and British Bulldog close the 1992 show with their IC Title masterpiece. Wembley Arena wanted to see this once more than any other on the card, and Hitman has always called this match his favorite. But another highlight you'll want to see is Randy Savage defend the WWF Title against Ultimate Warrior, a showdown I consider to be better than their 1991 Retirement Match. The storyline involving Mr. Perfect and Ric Flair is quite bizarre, but overall, it's good stuff. Also bizarre is some "no-face-hitting" encounter between Shawn Michaels and Rick "The Model" Martel. Don't ask...
So far, SUMMERSLAM has been an exceptional PPV series. But 1993's was probably their least successful at the time. There is some good stuff to watch, still. Mr. Perfect and Shawn Michaels delivered an outstanding IC Title Match. Bret Hart's grudge match against "Burger King" Jerry Lawler was hilariously delayed, as Hitman had to face Doink The Clown before he could get his hands on Lawler. Sean "1-2-3 Kid" Waltman's PPV debut against IRS is an admirable showing, as is Razor Ramon's opener against Ted Dibiase. Where most will disagree with me is on the Taker/Gonzales and Luger/Yokozuna matches. Even with his poor outfit and in-ring ability, I was never bored with Giant Gonzales when he faced Undertaker. And although I agree that Lex Luger never achieved the "American Hero" status WWF wanted, everyone got behind Luger during this summer. I think we all wanted to see Yokozuna dethroned of the title; at the time, Luger was the man for the job. This was a decent PPV amidst a subpar year for the WWF.
1994's presentation in the United Centre (my hometown of Chicago) was an excellent card, but also included two ridiculous scenarios. The first dumb thing is the Taker-vs-Taker main event. As Mark Calaway once said, "On paper, I thought it was a good idea, but we didn't get the mileage we wanted." The other problem is that Leslie Nielsen and George Kennedy bumble around trying to solve the mystery of The Undertaker......huh? This must've been a 'Naked Gun 33 1/3' promotion; I can't decide if I want WWE to edit this out or not. But the 1994 event features the priceless Bret/Owen Steel Cage Match; those two could steal the show by just looking at each other. Their rivalry remains a pinnacle among wrestling feuds. I also really enjoyed Razor Ramon challenging IC champion Diesel for his title, with HBK at ringside. A great PPV with a little WWF family-friendly garbage.
You only need to watch 1995's SUMMERSLAM for the HBK/Razor Ladder Match. Other than that, you can just break this disc into pieces to sell as knockoff jewelry. It's that bad.
1996 features a very good HBK/Vader main event, and a pretty solid undercard. What might hold this one back is the Boiler Room Brawl between Undertaker and Mankind. While this remains an awesome rivalry, the action hasn't aged well. At the time, these 30 minutes of violence were off the charts by WWF's standards. But now, the overall atmosphere and shocking finish are the best highlights. Still, 1996 warrants a peek.
The very first live PPV I purchased was 1997's SUMMERSLAM, in which the new Hart Foundation had a stipulation for each of their matches. Brian Pillman is still a frightening individual, which helps keep his gold-dress angle against Goldust entertaining. The British Bulldog's dog-food-eating angle with Ken Shamrock wasn't too bad, nor was the match itself. However, the last two matches are the real reason to watch. Sadly, this was the night that Owen Hart accidentally broke Stone Cold Steve Austin's neck via piledriver. However, it's still a very good contest with a sad finish. As for the main event, I'm not the biggest fan of Bret Hart and Undertaker's matches together, but this is an exception. Perhaps it was having Shawn Michaels as guest referee. I dunno, but out of all of the Taker/Hart encounters, this was easily my favorite. Oh, I almost forgot about the HHH/Mankind Steel Cage opener...in a word, awesome! One more thing, I hope that WWE doesn't cut the cash-giveaway-sweepstakes that happened in the middle...it was corny and funny as hell.
We kick off the Attitude Era of the package with 1998's edition. I was never a fan of the Attitude Era, but for this one, I really enjoyed myself. While The Rock and Triple H stole the show with their IC Title Ladder Match, everyone can look forward to the best Undertaker/Austin encounter in history. Those two men must've had to bust their tails when they had to follow the Ladder Match; they succeeded and then some. Throw in an X-Pac/Jarrett Hair-vs-Hair Match and a good opener between Val Venis and D'Lo Brown, and 1998 is a year you can look forward to.
You can also get revved up to watch 1999's SUMMERSLAM. Jesse Ventura officiates the Mankind/HHH/Austin main event with no particular set of rules. If he doesn't like what he sees, "The Body" makes the wrestler win under fairer methods. Also on this card is the Greenwich Street Fight between Test and Shane McMahon, where Stephanie McMahon's relationship with Test is in jeopardy. That's right: The Billion Dollar Princess was romantically tied to someone on TV before Paul Levesque entered the picture. Basically, Shane-O-Mac never had a better match until facing Kurt Angle in a Street Fight a couple years later. One more compliment to the PPV: Doesn't Undertaker & Big Show against Kane & X-Pac sound like a terrible match? Trust me, it's a most enjoyable showdown. The card gets rough during the 0:30-1:30 time period, but it's still a very good event.
2000's card is also pretty solid. It includes the first triangle TLC Match (my all-time favorite Ladder Match). Also included is a kicking 2-out-of-3 Falls showcase between Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit. And the Angle/HHH/Rock main event, while mostly a one-on-one affair, is still entertaining. There are a few stinkers (like the repetitive and pointless Undertaker/Kane slugfest). But overall, I like this one.
The 2001 SUMMERSLAM featured the second PPV showdown between the WCW/ECW Alliance and the WWF. The "Invasion" angle has its critics, but the talent was rarely stronger, making this PPV one of the anthology's best. You get to see Edge's first singles title victory, The Rock's first WCW Title victory, Jeff Hardy and RVD in a Ladder Match...do I really need to go on? Well, I'll also let you get excited to watch Kurt Angle and Steve Austin just tear the house down. Angle (to my knowledge) has never received a stronger crowd reaction. Just watch the PPV; you won't regret it.
My favorite SUMMERSLAM of all time is easily the 2002 presentation from Long Island, NY. Kurt Angle and Rey Mysterio almost steal the show with their fast-paced opener. But even better is Shawn Michaels' return to the WWE, as he faces Triple H in a classic Street Fight. Nobody thought HBK could still deliver a match this great, let alone just survive without killing his body. However, my strongest praise goes to Brock Lesnar and The Rock for their stellar main event. They put in a lot of hype and build-up going in, and the two men delivered the blockbuster we expected. The first is a pretty straight forward, but sufficiently informative, commentary by Michael Cole & Tazz. It's probably best to jump straight to this, unless you understand Japanese, or have a lot of time to spare. The 2nd commentary is by Benoit, Dean Malenko & Todd Grisham. It's nothing controversial or highly enlightening, but it's informative enough & fascinating because most of it is coming from Benoit himself.
vs JUSHIN 'THUNDER' LIGER for the IWGP Junior HeavyWeight Title. August-19, 1990: Benoit was under the mask here wrestling as 'The Pegasus Kid'. He was the challenger to Liger's title & defeated him in this 15 minute clinic of a match, to win his 1st ever Japanese title. The first 6 or 7 minutes of this bout, is a submissions based match, where basically every flashy submission move on the planet is used by one wrestler or the other. If I was to be in any way critical, I actually doubted the psychology of it all, but it was as entertaining as hell, and nothing lasted too long to get anywhere near monotonous. What followed was some fast-paced, high-flying, chain & counter wrestling which was right up there with any Benoit vs Angle match that you've seen. Benoit wins with a tombstone piledriver followed by a top-rope legdrop. As always with Japanese matches, it's also interesting to see how the crowds react to everything. Match Rating...9
vs TOO COLD SCORPIO. WCW SuperBrawl. February-21, 1993: I always thought Scorpio (who later became Flash Funk in the WWF) had a unique wrestling style that sometimes really worked & sometimes really bombed. You just knew that it would work to some extent with Chris Benoit. Man, did Benoit look like a combination of Dynamite Kid, Bret Hart & 'Stunning' Steve Austin in this bout!!! If anything, Scorpio's flashiness almost dominated this match too much. It actually got a little too tedious when Benoit was on offense, as this time was basically used for rest periods. Scorpio wins with a rollup just one second short of the 20 minute time limit. Nothing fantastic, but not bad. I think this match was included to fill the timeframe between the Japanese matches on the disc. Match Rating...7
vs BLACK TIGER (EDDIE GUERRERO) in a Super J Cup Semi-Final. April-16, 1994: Not as perfect as you would expect from these 2 wrestlers, but it has to be remembered that this was the 2nd of 3 matches in a one night tournament. Ten minutes in duration, this was actually a little sloppy (especially Guerrero). Still very good though & it's great to see the early work of 2 of the WWE's finest at the moment. The finish is somewhat of an anti-climax, as Benoit turns Eddie's top-rope flying bodypress attempt into an armdrag for the pin!!! Match Rating...7
vs THE GREAT SASUKE in the Super J Cup Final. April-16, 1994: Fantastic match, and even better considering that it was both men's 3rd bout of the night. Well paced 19 minute match which was different in style to both the Liger & Guerrero matches on this disc. Built up really nicely & had a decent mix of everything. In fact, I'd almost say that Benoit's intensity at the time, mixed better with Sasuke's high-flying, than with Guerrero's. Excellent match which ends in a Benoit win, after a top-rope gutwrench suplex. Match Rating...9
vs SABU. ECW November 2 Remember. November-5, 1994: This is the infamous bout where Benoit tosses Sabu onto his head about 40 seconds into it, and the match is stopped with Sabu suffering a broken neck. That was one scary landing!!! Not Rated
EASTER EGG: Pressing left while this option is highlighted will screen an ECW promo by Benoit. It actually shows his strength & weakness at the same time, as his intensity came through well, but so did his lack of clarity on the microphone.
vs AL SNOW. ECW Double Tables. February-4, 1995: Very good match which told an excellent story. This was probably the closest that Benoit came to portraying a cocky heel character, as Snow was playing an underdog face-type character at the time. The 15 minute match started off evenly & was very entertaining while that lasted. It was a good mix of mat wrestling using predominantly suplexes, with some high-flying & submission based offense thrown in. Benoit then started to dominate, but Snow wouldn't go down without a fight & mounted a comeback. Benoit eventually regained the momentum though & ended up victorious. A bit of a sleeper match which is more than worth a watch. Match Rating...8
vs EDDIE GUERRERO. WCW Monday Nitro. October-16, 1995: Very good television match. At 8 minutes in length, these 2 could only do so much, and they decided to concentrate mainly on suplexes. That's fine by me, and man, were they good!!! A bit of high-flying was thrown in, and the pace was predominantly in fast-motion. A great ending sees Benoit get the pinfall with a picture-perfect Dragon (Full Nelson) Suplex. Everything you could expect from a television bout, and a little more. Match Rating...8
vs KEVIN SULLIVAN. WCW Great American Bash. June-16, 1996: Entertaining match which spent most of it's time in the men's bathroom!!! Not exactly a wrestling match (actually, barely a wrestling move is seen), but an intense brawl. You just have to ask yourself while watching this bout, how much of the intensity was real? I think it's fair to say that a fair bit of it was. Too short with not enough variation, this bout also ended a little anti-climactically with a superplex. Match Rating...6
vs BOOKER T. WCW Great American Bash. June-14, 1998: I think this was the longest match of the series at 16 minutes. Good mix of the more current style of professional wrestling that Benoit has adapted very well to. Booker T was also a slightly different style of opponent for Benoit, and their styles actually mixed excellently. Both wrestlers were nearing the very best of their careers at this point of time & it showed. A fitting ending to what was a tremendous series of matches in mid 1998. Match Rating...8
vs BRET HART. Owen Hart Tribute Match. WCW Monday Nitro. October-4, 1999: This bout is almost surreal & it really does take a lot of time to both the viewing & live audience to get into it. Because of this, I believe that Benoit & Hart opened the bout with more of a clinic, than a match. The first half of it's 23 minute duration (excluding commercial breaks) is a little meandering, but technically proficient. However, from about the 10 minute mark onwards, we see some great counter & chain wrestling, as you would expect from these two. And they're both very professional, as the competition aspect of the match does come into play very well. A tough one to rate because of the match circumstances, but definitely very good. vs SID VICIOUS for the World HeavyWeight Title. WCW Souled Out. January-16, 2000: With all the controversy surrounding WCW & Benoit's imminent departure at the time, the quality of this match is often overlooked. It's actually a very good big man vs small man bout (not too dissimilar to Benoit's title defense against Kane at this year's 'Bad Blood'). Sid played the strong big man very well here (Benoit's tremendous selling obviously helps a lot), while Benoit was clinical in chopping the big man down to size from his knees. At 15 minutes in length, it didn't outstay it's welcome. Under-rated & forgotten match. Match Rating...8
vs WILLIAM REGAL. Brian Pillman Tribute Show. May-25, 2000: This was Regal's first match back from an extended layoff & one of Benoit's early matches while working with the WWE. Interesting commentary from Dr.Tom Pritchard, who claims that he often uses a tape of this match for training purposes. And you can see why, as both these guys put on a virtual clinic. I'm not actually the hugest fan of Regal in the ring, but he mixes it up perfectly with Benoit here. Furthermore, both men's intensity levels turn this into a super competitive match. A secret gem of a bout!!! Match Rating...8

vs KURT ANGLE in a Steel Cage Match. WWE Raw. June-12, 2001: Wow!!! Forget being a Raw main event, this was definitely the quality of a PPV main event. At 15 minutes in length, it could have been a little longer, but that was almost the only weakness of this match. It did have only a little of their excellent technical mat wrestling, but that didn't take away too much from this bout at all. In it's place, there were suplexes galore (including 9 almost consecutive German Suplexes from Benoit), some cage action, and a few terrific spots: a German Suplex off the top-rope by Benoit, a missed moonsault from the top of the cage by Angle, and a diving headbutt from the top of the cage by Benoit. Angle wins when the commentating `Stone Cold' Steve Austin (who was feuding with Benoit & Jericho at the time) interfered. Sensational. Match Rating...9
vs KURT ANGLE for the WWE Championship. 2003 Royal Rumble. January-19, 2003: Excellent 20 minute match!!! Leading into this, I just thought it would be similar to what they had put together previously. I thought that there was no way Benoit could win & this match was only on the card to see the reaction that Benoit would get at main event level. While these points still held true, the match was a resounding success anyway. At times, it genuinely appeared as if Benoit would win the bout, and the standing ovation he received afterwards was surely noticed by WWE decision makers. The match itself was a good hybrid of their previous efforts. While containing technical bursts, it didn't get bogged down. Overtime he's become one of the WWE's most popular characters either through his entertaining personality or his inring matches so here is a brief showcasing of matches throughout his career in "John Morrison: Rock Star".
ECW Championship Match vs. C.M. Punk - After these two had various matches on TV & the previous 3 PPV's (Night Of Champions, Great American Bash, SummerSlam), this was C.M. Punk's last chance to face Morrison for the ECW Championship. Both men traded offensive moves of grounding their opposition along with stiff kicks while breaking out other manuevers like Punk doing a springboard crossbody from the apron to the floor while Morrison was able to reverse a top rope attempt by Punk into a powerslam at one point & used "Starship Pain" for the first time in his career. This was a very competitive match & the best encounter from their series of matches throughout the summer.
"ECW On Sci-Fi" Sep. '07
w/The Miz vs. D-Generation X - Unfortunally they didn't show the comedic pre-match promo from DX on Miz & Morrison but this was a match that went back & forth between both teams that showed Miz & Morrison constantly attempting to get one over on DX by constantly mocking DX by doing their trademark crotch chops along with stealing their signature moves like Miz's attempt at a pedigree while Morrison executed his own version of Shawn's "Sweet Chin Music" but DX prevailed in the end. It was a good match but their match the next week against Mysterio & Shawn (on the "Allied Powers" DVD) was better in quality.
"RAW" Nov. '08
vs. Evan Bourne - This happened the day after the 2009 draft when Miz was drafted to RAW & turned on Morrison in the process but before the "supplemental draft" later that week when Morrison was drafted to SmackDown so this turned out to be his last match as a member of the ECW roster. This was a very athletic contest between both men as they didn't hold anything back by exchanging chops & kicks several times leading to such moves & moments like Morrison executing a running knee strike into Bourne's face while he lying on the apron causing him to fall to the floor & gave a loud kick to boot afterwards, Bourne reversing a modifed "torture rack" backbreaker into a head sissors, Morrison dropkicking Bourne's knees while he was running the ropes, Bourne delivering a crossbody block that went both men over the top rope, and Morrison pulling out a rare submission hold as he worked over the arm with an armlock into a modified chickenwing crossface. This is one of those matches (just like a few others on this disc) that constantly got overlooked in the long run because this didn't have a big storyline/feud going into it or took place on a bigger stage like a PPV but it was definately one of the best matches on free television that year.
"ECW On Sci-Fi" Apr. '09
vs. Chris Jericho - Before I get started, it should be noted that this is the first match from the new version of "WWE Superstars" to make it onto DVD. This match went back & forth between both men as Morrison was able to match Jericho as far as athletic moves but Jericho had more heelish tactics & heavily kept showcasing his arrogance early on. Whenever Morrison gained momentum, Jericho was able to counter but that didn't hold back Morrison as it took Jericho cheating to gain the victory but definately an impressive showing that left you wanting to see more of these two against each other.
"Superstars" June '09
vs. Edge - They had a small conversation before the match before it started with Morrison grounding Edge early & working over his arm. Edge was able to recover beating Morrison with various kicks & punches along with choking him on the ropes. The focus then shifted to Morrison's ribs after Edge hung him on the top ropes then later applying the sharpshooter but Morrison was able to recover & even pulled off a head sissors driving Edge into the ringside steps. The rest of the match went back & forth between both men resulting in Todd Grisham stating afterwards that it was a "breathtaking performance from both athletes" and he wasn't lying.
"SmackDown" June '09
vs. C.M. Punk - Punk was the World Champion at the time but this was a non-title match. This wasn't the quality that we saw in the earlier ECW Championship match but still a good encounter between both men that saw early chain wrestling between both men along with a series of each men countering each other's moves based off their past of knowing each other so well. The finish was a complete shock to everyone but overall was a nice encounter.
"SmackDown" June '09
vs. World Champion Jeff Hardy - Just like the previous Punk match, these two also had a history dating back to the "Johnny Nitro" days feuding over the Intercontinental Title & wrestling against each other in their tag teams of The Hardys & MNM. Both men's styles are almost mirror images of each other with the arial & grounded attack which resulted in Morrison kicking out of the swanton bomb while Hardy was able to counter "starship pain" at various points in the match. This was another highly competitive match.
"SmackDown" July 31, 2009
vs. Intercontinenal Champion Rey Mysterio - The match started off quick paced & kept that way throughout the bout leading a match full of non-stop action such as Mysterio rotating about Morrison's body twice to get a head sissors, Morrison doing a backwards flip kick to Mysterio's face & later doing a dropkick onto Mysterio in mid-air while delivering the most impactful "Starship Pain" I've seen. Add in both men giving each other loud kick & so many close near falls that the crowd couldn't help but chant "THIS IS AWESOME!" in a performance that had Jim Ross say, "No one can say that John Morrison didn't earn the Intercontinenal Championship." Just like the Evan Bourne match earlier, this was one of the best matches on free television throughout the year.
"SmackDown" Sep. '09
Along with the matches are various segments starring Morrison himself such as highlights of his online show "The Dirt Sheet" with The Miz, answering fan questions, showcasing his training style called "parkour", discussing his signature moves, showing his love for surfboarding, and a DVD extra showing the birth of the John Morrison character. In the end, normally I would point out how WWE completely ignored the career of Johnny Nitro & M-N-M amongst other things but this DVD was setup to be just a one disc release that viewers can watch in one session instead of the usual 2-3 disc sets that take more than one viewing or a bunch of time to get through the presentation & matches completely. Taking that into concideration, I'm really happy with this release as the matches themselves where action packed for the most part while the other segments had it's entertaining moments ("The Dirt Sheet" had me really laughing, he gave some funny answers to the fan questions, and I find the parkour training interesting) so this is a release that I would recommend.

WWE: Royal Rumble 2010 (2010) Review

(More customer reviews)"Royal Rumble 2010" is nothing special. Plain and simple. Most of this PPV lacked originality, and by the end of the broadcast, I was underwhelmed.
1) ECW Championship
Christian (champion) v. Ezekiel Jackson
---Undoubtedly the best match on the card, and I think the Atlanta crowd's participation will confirm that. I confess I haven't watched the SyFy program in a long while, but I think I will give it another look if it's going to produce solid matches like this. Christian has always been a great in-ring performer, but Jackson really stepped up to the plate. For some reason, his brutish strength is more appealing than most superstars with this kind of dominant gimmick. The action was back-and-forth, with both men coming up with some good counters to familiar spots. The pace was always quick, and the slower moments were still intense. I am very surprised at how much I enjoyed this match, and look forward to these two mixing it up some more.

2) United States Championship
The Miz (champion) v. MVP
---This match was added to the card because Teddy Long tired of Miz's backstage cockiness. Well...actually I later learned it was because of the squash Women's Championship Match, but more on that later. I like how The Miz has come along in recent months, and MVP usually entertains me. But tonight, these two seemed off. Miz was in top form, when he used his quick offense to impress the crowd, or when he sold MVP's attacks as well as he did. But MVP somehow didn't impress me. Even the Atlanta crowd started to cheer for Miz, especially when MVP's "babyface revenge" failed to get some fan sympathy. The match was pretty short, and it's not bad or anything. Just unremarkable.

3) WWE Championship
Sheamus (champion) v. Randy Orton
---This is a strange match to talk about, for a few reasons. First off, there were some neat backstage segments where Orton had heard from Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase (separately) that the other was acting odd. Because of this, Orton decided to compete alone. Another strange factor is that we have two villain characters who are forced to somehow entertain a crowd, when neither has deserved any kind of heroic sympathy. It's a tough feat, and I credit the two men for trying. Did they pull it off? To me, they did. The physical showdown was a believable performance from both men, with sensible & patient strategy. But I think after Atlanta realized that Randy Orton refused to acknowledge their strong cheers --- true to his character, by the way --- the crowd lost interest until the end. I've heard many interviews from Orton, where he admits that he likes when people chant "Boring", and likes making a crowd agitated. I thought Orton's use of psychology was excellent; Sheamus again bores me as a character, but entertains me as a competitor. The disqualification finish will annoy most people, but I see it as a sign of things to come. I like this match, but I won't recommend to anybody.

Michelle McCool (champion) v. Mickie James
---After a well-done video package and some smacktalk from McCool, we are treated a match that lasted less than 1 minute. Now, I normally hate squashes. I would've preferred a longer match from my two favorite Divas currently in the WWE. But frankly, I thought this victory from Mickie James was short and sweet. It was time for the "Piggie James" storyline to have its happy ending. I know this was a bait-and-switch from the WWE, but I was alright with it.

5) World Heavyweight Championship
Rey Mysterio v. The Undertaker (champion)
---This title bout has the right beginning, and the right ending, but is missing the middle. You will get to see Mysterio's struggle to gain an advantage over the larger Undertaker. You will get to see Mysterio's inspiring comeback, and Undertaker's impressive victory. Unfortunately, this match was missing that middle chapter, where you see Taker and Mysterio gain a series of advantages in order to make us believe that the championship is on the line. I've become sick of the shorter Undertaker matches; his health and age are no longer an acceptable excuse for me. This problem has made challengers like CM Punk, Batista, and Rey Mysterio look unimpressive, when all of those men are capable of entertaining the crowd. It is time for Undertaker to have his marquee matches free from the championship spotlight. This "SmackDown" main event is good while it lasts, but we deserved and expected more. And why the hell was Batista in the pre-match video when he never made an appearance?

6) 30-Man Royal Rumble
---These Rumbles are hard to evaluate, so let me tell give you the Pros/Cons list.
PROS
* CM Punk was easily the best part of the Rumble. He entered at #3, and used his Straight-Edge Society propaganda on numerous occasionss. He tried to convert a few, and he ended up suckering a few. If you remember Diesel's impressive 1994 appearance, or Steve Austin's 1997 dominance, then this will be a fun treat for you.
* Beth Phoenix became the first woman to enter the 30-Man Rumble since Chyna's 2000 appearance. It was a short but very sweet showing. How she eliminated The Great Khali is one for the history books.
* Some of the newer talent to the Royal Rumble got to show off a bit. Dolph Ziggler, Evan Bourne, Kofi Kingston, R-Truth, and of course CM Punk made an impression. Granted, these appearances were mostly short ones, but they were the most memorable.
* The DX showdown between Shawn Michaels and Triple H was thankfully not held off until the very end of the Rumble. Unlike a lot of this 30-Man Rumble, the timing was unpredictable.
* I credit WWE for not taking the obvious route of having Shawn Michaels win the Royal Rumble to get the much-anticpated HBK/Taker "WrestleMania" rematch. I have no doubt we will see it. I believe most fans believe it will happen anyway. And HBK's final role in the contest was memorable.
* Edge is back! One of the greatest performers in pro wrestling history has returned months before he was rumored to be healed from his injury. Although there was a been-there-done-that feeling, seeing the Ultimate Opportunist sneak into another victory is always a pleasure.CONS
* About halfway through the 30-Man Rumble, there was very little pileup of wrestlers. At the most, you'd see 4 men in the ring from about #19 onward. I was disappointed to see this happen, because the past few Rumbles had a lot of exciting action with tons of guys in the ring. This time, they took a page out of the 2002 Rumble in Atlanta...fewer guys in the ring. Both times, I've been underwhelmed.
* John Cena was F___ing HORRIBLE! He got his tail whipped for pretty much the entire match, and the fact that he was the last guy eliminated is criminal. He tried the Attitude Adjustment like 8 times. He barely got any offense in. I like John Cena, but this was an embarassment.
* Nothing ever resulted from Legacy's involvement in the Orton/Sheamus title bout. Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase just entered the Rumble, competed like a tag team, and got eliminated like a tag team. I wish their participation earlier in the evening would've resurfaced in some way.
* Quite frankly, the action got stale towards the end. Big Show and Mark Henry made little use of their giant-vs-giant showdown. A handful of eliminations were sloppy, espeically the most pivotal one in the match: Shawn Michaels'. No one really got to be the "star" of the Rumble, except for CM Punk in the early part of the Rumble. Gifted veterans like Chris Jericho and HBK didn't get much of a reaction out of me, while some other reliable guys like Batista and John Cena lacked a spark. Edge's surprise return (good as it was) didn't involve much action from him because he entered at #29.I think my overall reaction to the 30-Man Royal Rumble is that it started great, with some creative action and humorous spots. But then about halfway, it became a plodding affair with quick eliminations and no real rhythm to it. I felt like the 2010 Rumble was on cruise control.

"Royal Rumble 2010" continues two WWE PPV trends: familiarity and averageness.
You've seen this stuff before. An ECW Title Match that won't matter much after all is said and done. Impromptu matches that don't really entertain. A WWE Championship showdown ending in disqualification. Undertaker delivering another shorter PPV appearance. A squash match that develops storylines more than delivering the anticipated in-ring action.
Everyone responds differently to the 30-Man Royal Rumbles, but I was disappointed.
The PPV's quality was middle of the road. You're not thankful for spending your money on the event, and you're not angry to demand a refund. You admire the effort, but condemn the shortcomings. It's sad to see my love for WWE start to diminish.

The ECW Championship match with former champ Matt Hardy vs. then champion Jack Swagger. It was back and foward and good opener for the PPV and for me it gets a 3.5/5
Now we go to the Women's Championship match with Melina vs. Beth Phoenix, the girls always do a good job with Beth domonated most of the match with Melina coming from behind giving this match a 3.5/5
Now the WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match with John Cena in his 4th championship run vs. his old rival JBL w/ his new "employee" HBK in his corner. Not much to say in this match cause like always John Cena wins until losing the title the next month in the Elimination Chamber. 2/5
Now we move on to the WWE Championship Match with Jeff Hardy in his first run as a World Champion vs. his old TLC "buddy" Edge. Before the match even stared then Smackdown GM Vickie Guerrero makes the match no DQ so her nephew Chavo can get involed in the match for Edge. In the end Matt turned on his own brother so Edge can win his 8th world championship. 4/5
And now the MAIN EVENT the ROYAL RUMBLE MATCH with Rey Mysterio(who lasted a long time in there)and John Morrison staring at #1 and #2. This was an interesting Rumble because Orton kicked Vince McMahon in the head so it was unknown what will happen if he won or not. When Triple H who entered at #7 and Randy Orton #8 they got a huge pop from the fans like always. But to my surprise Rob Van Dam was a guest entrent at #25 and crowd went crazy! But in the end with help of Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton wins the match and will main event The 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania!!! 5/5

The Self Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)First things first, I am was and still am a HUGE Ultimate Warrior fan. I got back into wrestling from 1997-2002 (I still watch it here and there but no longer consider myself a fan any more) and cheered for wrestlers like The Rock before he was big all the way up until he left (probably the single biggest reason why I lost interest in WWE again). Before that time I was a WWF fan from 1987-1993 and I absolutely loved the Ultimate Warrior. Bar none, he is my favorite wrestler of all time, as short a moment in time as it was.
I state this to make it known that I was extremely excited when I heard that WWE was releasing an Ultimate Warrior DVD, scouring the Internet for news on a daily basis to learn more about what was being released regarding my favorite wrestler of all time. I knew that this was not going to be any love-fest by the WWE brain trust, but I didn't care. Just the ability to see the warrior in the DVD format and have others talk about the individual that made moments of my sometimes crappy childhood filled with joy... it took me back to happy moments that you cannot easily feel again.
After having rushed out to pick up "The Self Destruction Of The Ultimate Warrior" and watched the 1.5 hour special about his career in the ring, I find that it was a very FAIR assessment of Warrior's wrestling legacy. Other Ultimate Warrior fans have written online that this DVD badmouths the former Mr. Hellwig and puts him in a light that isn't completely accurate. In a situation of "he said she said" usually the truth lies somewhere in between so I am sure that this DVD isn't 100% accurate, but my overall impression of this disc is that it is very FAIR (and again, I remind you that I was about as a big a fan as there is of The Ultimate Warrior).
Starting off with the origins of the Ultimate Warrior from Rock to Dingo Warrior to Ultimate Warrior, this DVD speaks of UW's quick rise from a house show wrestler to beating the Honky Tonk Man in 30 seconds at SummerSlam 1988 in Madison Square Garden. Following Warrior's rise in popularity, the UW does the unthinkable on April 1, 1990 in Toronto, Canada at WrestleMania VI as he CLEANLY beats Hulk Hogan in the middle of the ring in what is the penultimate moment of my wrestling fan "career". From this point on we learn how the Warrior defended that very title as best as he could (and I truly believe the Warrior did the best he could do), until he eventually lost it to Sgt. Slaughter and arguably then had the best match of his career with Randy Savage at WrestleMania VII. The Ultimate Warrior's 1st run with the WWF came to an end in 1991 when (as the WWF and Vince claim - Warrior himself says this isn't true) during the SummerSlam PPV Warrior demanded more money or he wouldn't perform. After a 7 month hiatus we see The Ultimate Warrior make his incredibly shocking return at the end of WM VIII to begin his 2nd run with the WWF which would only last a mere 8 months or so. Warrior's last 2 runs at wrestling for major promotions are covered in his 4 month 1996 WWF run and his 3 month 1998 WCW run (he hasn't wrestled in a big promotion since that time).
Throughout the history of UW's wrestling career we get comments from Vince McMahon, Eric Bischoff, Ted Dibiase, Bobby Heenan, Gene Okerlund, Jim Ross, Hulk Hogan, Bruce Pritchard, Jerry Lawler, Christian, Chris Jericho, Ric Flair and many others. To say that these fellow wrestlers put Warrior in a bad light is like saying that rotten eggs smell bad. It's quite evident that Jim (most of these guys refuse to call him Warrior unless it's with their eyes in the back of their heads) wasn't very popular in the back room, and never will be.
But as I have said numerous times in this review, IT'S FAIR.
You generally get the impression when someone is lying, and it's pretty evident that everyone on this DVD is speaking from their hearts. They truly believe what they are telling the camera about the Ultimate Warrior and it is highly entertaining to say the least.
As an individual that prides themselves on knowing as much as possible about The Ultimate Warrior, I learned new things about the man from Parts Unknown, more so than anything else, how little he was respected in the back room by "the boys". As much as wrestling is for the fans, when it comes to the end of the day, the most important thing is how you interact with your little wrestling family in the back room. The fans you see maybe 20 minutes a night, your fellow wrestlers the entire rest of the day. It's a shame that as loved as the Warrior was from 1989-1991, he was so disliked by everyone else.
If you read any of Warrior's posts on his web site (ultimatewarrior.com) he'll tell you over and over again how much he can't stand the WWF and that they are liars, but when you have so many people saying 1 thing and 1 other person saying another, you can't help but think that maybe the problem isn't everyone else. Mr. Hellwig (sorry, WARRIOR) would have you believe that Vince has "brainwashed" his entire stable, but after watching this DVD you will probably feel otherwise.
My only complaint is that as good as 1.5 hour feature is, this collection could have been even more. It's quite clear that no "double dipping" will be done for another Ultimate Warrior DVD, so why not have matches on here like Warrior/Slaughter from Royal Rumble 1991, the complete Super Posedown from RR1989 with Rick Rude, more interview segments like when he gets hits by Honky Tonk in summer 1988, Rude at WMV, Hercules at WMIV, the whole Jake feud in 1991 and so forth? There are a handful of matches on here including the 2 big ones with Hogan at WMVI (sadly Jesse Ventura's commentary had to be cut out) and Savage at WMVII, but this set of choices feels lacking.
Overall, a very entertaining DVD that any Warrior fan should take a look at, and any wrestling fan that wants to learn more about the Ultimate Warrior shouldn't ignore (especially if you are ignorant of the story of Warrior).

WWE WrestleMania 21 (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)WM 19 didn't have it, WM 20 didn't have it, but last night, in front of 21,000 plus fans, John Cena and Batista defeated JBL and HHH to become champs of their own brands. This was an awsome ppv, the crowd was electric all night and the matches, several especially were worth it [Except the sumo match in my opinion]
Eddie Guerreroe vs. Rey Mysterio: What a great way to kick off the show, two of the best Latino wrestlers in WWE history use high flying and fast paced action to start it off. Rey wins again and Eddie shows a little teasing of turning on Rey, but then shakes his hand in a great match. 8.5/10
Edge vs Kane vs Benoit vs Jericho vs Christian vs. Shelton B.
Ladder Match
#1 contendership:
Wow, wow, wow. Just a famous match that people will remember for years to come. The things these guys did to each other took guts and preserverance. Shelton giving Edge the T-Bone suplex off a ladder, Benoit giving Kane a headbutt off a ladder.
Shelton running up the side of a ladder that was laying on another ladder to throw Jericho off was phenominal. Then Edge and Christian gave a modified conchairto to Kane with ladders, followed by Shelton jumping out of the ring to land on at least 5 other guys, Tomko included.
Edge wins after hitting Benoit with a chair and taking him out. Benoit's arm suffered the most after Kane gave him several arm crunches with a ladder on it. Truly a great match. 10/10
Randy Orton vs. Undertaker
Legend vs. Legend Killer.
Its official, 13-0 is now the new record that the Undertaker has. A great match again, with Randy reversing a chokeslam into a RKO, then his dad interfering, but the Undertaker prevailing was a great exciting match.
I saw a lot of signs that said 12-1 over the past few weeks, but let me just say no one can beat the Undertaker at a WM, just get used to that! 9/10
Trish Stratus vs. Christy Hemme
Women's championship:
I can't say this was great, but props to Christy to actually going out there with not much experience in front of millions of people and actually trying to be good. As you could tell, Trish wins to continue her streak.
I had a feeling Lita might have been a big factor, but she just mostly glared at Trish the entire time. 6/10
Eugene/Hassan/Hogan segment:
Just to pass the time and give the Hulkster to pump up the crowd. Eugene came out and started talking about his favorite moment [When midgets attacked King Kong Bundy] Then Hassan came out to beat up Eugene and make a WM moment of his own.
Then Hogan to the rescue, cleaning house and posing in front of a televised American flag. Funny, and memorable stuff.
Kurt Angle vs. HBK:
30 minutes of pure enjoyment and captivating action. All the near falls made the crowd shout and yell like crazy. A bad spot when HBK tried to jump on Angle through an announce table, but the table didn't break.
Lots of chain wrestling, near falls, a great sweet chin music by HBK, and a moonsault gone bad, followed by chemistry and drama made this the greatest match on the card!
Other than that, this is definately the match of the year, hell the match of the decade! Angle wins after making HBK tap out, only becoming the third man to make him tap. [The first was Jericho, the second Benoit] 11/10
Piper's Pit
Stone Cold Steve Austin as Guest:
Didn't live up to the hype in my opinion. Some good trading of words by both men, with Piper making fun of the crowd with the what chants. Then Carlito of all people comes out and makes fun of them.
Piper gets beat up by Carlito by about 10 seconds as Austin watched, then Austin and Piper beat up Carlito. They celebrate with beers and then Austin stuns Piper. Some funny stuff, would have made a great Raw also!
Sumo Match: Why, why, WHY was this match on so late in the card? I certainly didn't want to see two big men in practically no clothing fight after one of the greatest one on one matches in history, or after the awsome ladder match. Anyway Akebono wins and Big Show falls to the outside of the ring. 5/10
WWE Championship
JBL vs. John Cena:
The streak is over! We have a new Smackdown champion! The match was also a disappointment, only 15 minutes, maybe even less long. Cena hits the FU out of nowhere and pins JBL. I am not complaining though. Good match, for the ending, not great. 7/10
World Heavyweight Championship
Batista vs. HHH
Motorhead played HHH's music as he entered from a trap door in the stage. Motorhead wasn't as good as they were from WM 17, but the entrance was still cool.
The crowd erupted when Batista won. HHH got busted wide open, Ric Flair got spinebustered, and Batista is the new world champ. About twenty minutes of big man fighting, lots of struggle holds and knocking people down. Batista celebrated as the crowd went crazy. 9/10
This year's WM was definately worth it, especially for the Angle/HBK match, Orton/Undertaker match, the Ladder match, and the two world title matches just for the endings. I can't wait for May 10th!

They also have the highlights of Kurt Angle, Shawn Michales, and the Undertaker. With HBK they showed how his Sweet Chin Music kick can be devastating. With Angle they showed the Ankle lock, and with the Undertaker, they showed all his 12 wins at WM going from 12 to 1 backwards.
The extra Battle Royal is a great thing to add to this DVD. Funny moment when 5 or 6 guys hold down Viscera when Scotty gives him the worm. Heidenreich rips open the padding on the top turnbuckle, and Akio gets face planted on the steel steps after being tossed out of the ring! Booker T wins for Smackdown 8.5/10
They also have when the WWE takes over Hollywood Boulevard with a ring and matches galore. Cena even stops traffic and gets in trouble with the cops. Finally, they have a two and a half hour induction ceremony of the Hall of Fame [But you guys already know that don't ya?]
This is a great DVD to add to your collection.

WWE - The Rock - The People's Champ (2000) Review

(More customer reviews)The DVD features a few major matches between The Rock and major names from 1999 to January 2000. You won't find his matches with Steve Austin on here but you will see how the rivalry between him and Triple H starting to gain some steam.
You get to see a few backstage views of The Rock and how his fans really idolize him. Of course, the pie references are interesting as well. This DVD is jam packed full of The Rock and if you are a Rock fan, this DVD will be an awesome purchase because not only do you get 143 minutes of the electrifying wrestler, you get these special features such as his memorable verbal assaults including the pie references. Not sure if they showed those on television before.
The interviews from the announcers to the wrestlers help the audience gain some insight on the wrestler and if you buy the VHS, you will be missing out on these awesome special features. The sound and video is really good and the special features included are pretty fun to watch. A definite DVD must-see for WWF and The Rock fans.

WWE - John Cena: My Life (2007) Review

Why? Because I'm a fan of John. I adore the man, he's incredibly talented and an incredibly hard worker and all round nice guy. Yes, I may be what you'd call a "fangirl" but I like John for more than his looks (yes he's gorgeous, but I appreciate his wrestling abilities as well!).
This disc has three discs, all cover different things. Disc 1 is the documentary, Disc 2 is some of John's best matches and Disc 3 is episodes of John's WWE dotcom show, 5 Questions.
The documentary is very well made and informative. You learn a lot about John's childhood, his teenage years and his foray into wrestling in OVW. I found it interesting because John talks a lot about he did bodybuilding before he was a wrestler. He looked completely different to how he is now, it was a shock! But it was awesome to see a different side of him. He then moves the documentary onto his WWE debut, into his rapper gimmick and into winning his first WWE Championship at Wrestlemania 21. We keep moving onto feuding with Edge in 2006, his infamous match with Rob Van Dam at ECW One Night Stand and making The Marine. The documentary ends with John talking about wrestling Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania 23 and what the future holds for him.
The documentary is interesting and John is animated and entertaining as he takes us through his life.
The first disc also features a look at John's sizeable car collection - he collects vintage cars and shows us his collection. He has cars like a Dodge Viper, Mustang and a Camaro.
Now we move onto Disc 2, which is the matches DVD. This disc features seven of John's many matches in his career.
They are:
Randy Orton's farewell match: The Prototype (John) vs Randy Orton - OVW 19/01/02
This is from John's days in OVW and it was Randy's last match before he debuted in the WWE. John looks like a huge dork and he talks smack about Randy before the match. The match isn't that good, but it's cool to see both John and Randy before they were WWE superstars. John wins, by the way.
John Cena vs Chris Jericho - Vengeance 21/07/02
This match was John's first PPV match, lucky for him he got a great competitor in Chris, who carried him to a very good match for a rookie. This was before John established his rapper gimmick, and this proves he can wrestle. He takes Chris by surprise when he beats him, and afterwards Chris freaks out and starts destroying things at ringside. A successful PPV for John.
John Cena vs Rikishi - Smackdown! 27/03/03
A match from SD, this saw John get heavily booed for the first time against fan favourite Rikishi. John was in a feud with Brock Lesnar at the time, and after the match he called him out (they should have put what happened on the DVD). As for the match itself, John proved early that he could face much bigger opponents then himself with ease - something he would go onto having a talent for (Big Show, Umaga, The Great Khali). A pretty good match.
I Quit Match for the WWE Championship: John Cena vs JBL - Judgment Day 22/05/05
One of John's most famous matches, nearly everybody knows this classic. This was John's best match with JBL, and he actually managed to get a decent match out of the man. This was a brutal and bloody match - John bled so much, his face was completely covered in it at one point. This has loads of cool spots, involving various weapons and other props - including JBL's limo and the truck that John made his entrance on. JBL quits after John goes to hit him with a huge metal pipe - John proceeds to hit him with it after the match is over anyway. One of John's best matches to date, I love this one.
John Cena, Shawn Michaels & Hulk Hogan vs Tyson Tomko, Chris Jericho & Christian - Raw 27/06/05
I can't stand Hulk Hogan, but here he's teaming up with my two favourite wrestlers, so I'll forgive him. This match isn't much, it's basically just John, Shawn and Hulk beating up on Tomko, Chris and Christian for awhile. Hogan of course hogs the spotlight and gets the pin, and John and Shawn celebrate with him, which is actually cute and not annoying.
Extreme Rules Match for the WWE Championship: John Cena vs Rob Van Dam - ECW One Night Stand 11/06/06
This is another rather famous match for John, as it was the match where he got practically booed out of the building. The ECW crowd are rabid and verbally tear into John. I have to give him credit, he kept it together and ignored them most of the time. The match itself is exceptional too, John shows he can do matches ECW style, he outdoes RVD at points. The match had a bad ending, because Edge interfered, but apart from that, this was an entertaining match.
TLC Match for the WWE Championship: John Cena vs Edge - Unforgiven 17/09/06
I reckon John excels in matches where the rule book is thrown out the window, the best three matches here are all like that, including this one. John once again had the fans against him, as Edge was the hometown hero in Canada. This match was really fun, John matched up nicely against Edge. Lita got involved and actually tipped the match in John's favour. The ending spot is sick when John FUs Edge through a couple of tables. I think he gained the crowd's respect by the end too. This match was also the start of his 13 month reign with the WWE title.
When I first bought this, I was dismayed to find that the epic hour long match with Shawn Michaels from Raw wasn't on here, as that's probably my all time favourite match. But it turned up on Shawn's DVD set (which I bought just after this), so I'm happy. That match is just amazing, John and Shawn have amazing chemistry in the ring together, they've never had a bad match together.
Disc 2 also contains some extras of John doing various things - returning to OVW for a show, showing us his collection of coins, doing a car race for a TV show, his friends talk about when John once went camping, John's short feud with Kevin Federline, some footage of John's Wrestlemania 22 entrance, his Wrestlemania 21 movie promo with JBL, a promo from OVW, John training at a gym and the music video for his song "Right Now."
Disc 3 is my favourite however, because it features several episodes of his web show, 5 Questions (named 5 Questions With The Champ when he had the title). John is absolutely hilarious on these things. He answers questions that fans send in, and rambles about things. He frequently goes off topic and starts talking about something completely unrelated, too. John is a naturally funny guy and he's so charismatic. The well known jobber Brooklyn Brawler helps John with the show, and he's always insulting him and saying how much he hates him. He also holds a grudge against Michael Cole, he goes on about him a lot, it makes me giggle.
When watching these segments (they run around 5 to 10 minutes each, depending on how long John rambles for), I was constantly laughing. John is honest in his answers and his answers make me laugh so hard. Towards the end of the segments, he thinks he should cancel the show and asks people to write in and say whether it should keep going. John gets mad when nobody mentions it in their letters and thinks the show should stop, it's so funny. The questions he gets asked are hilarious too, John makes them funny.
This review is long, but it gets my point across as to why I like this DVD so much. The 5 Questions segments are hilarious, the matches are awesome and the documentary is really good. All up, a fantastic DVD for a huge John fan such as myself. 5 stars, for sure.

(More customer reviews)As I stated on my "That Damn Good" DVD review...backstage politics aside, Triple H is one of the best performers in the industry today. He's for the in-ring presence of a modern day Harley Race with the charisma & diversity of Ric Flair. It's been a long time (over 5 years) since they dropped a DVD SOLEY on The Game & it will take the same format that Austin's & Hogan's latest releases are where they'll have his matches with comments in between on various incidents such as getting started in the business, time in WCW, Chyna, the curtain call, King Of The Ring including a funny story about the "crown" itself, the evolution (no pun intended) of his character, his quad injury, Shawn's return, Ric Flair, Batista, Edge & John Cena amongst other things.
Matches include: vs. John Crystal - This was his RAW debut & nothing special past that.
RAW May 1995
vs. WWE Intercontinental Champion Marc Mero - Triple H's first title reign began here as the whole plan involving the "mole" Mr. Perfect came to play as Perfect (who had problems with HHH and befriended Mero) turned on Mero to help HHH win the championship.
RAW Oct. 1996
King of the Ring Final Match vs. Mankind - This was the match that put him on the map & started his elevation into becoming who we know today. This was the most aggressive you've seen Triple H up to that time as he did things to Foley you haven't seen before like the pedigree through the announce table, Chyna breaking the scepter over his back, and Triple H not stopping the attack after he won the match.
King Of The Ring 1997
WWE European Championship Match vs. Owen Hart - The stipulation here was that Chyna was going to be handcuffed to Commissioner Sgt. Slaughter at ringside during the match. Triple H & Owen Hart worked a real good match here with the Chyna factor not really playing a fact until the end.
WrestleMania XIV
vs. WWE Champion Mankind - Mankind was inserted into the Austin/Triple H SummerSlam match & walked away the champion. This was the night after when Triple H captured his first of many World Championships.
RAW Aug. 1999
No Holds Barred WWE Championship Match vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin - This match always gets heavily overshadowed by their later encounters as they went hard in the ring & just had an out of control brawl out the ring include Austin "lowering the boom" on HHH. The ending involving The Rock doesn't take away from the match itself & was supposed to set up the Survivor Series match that wasn't meant to be due to Austin's injury.
No Mercy 1999
Career vs. WWE Title Hell in a Cell Match vs. Cactus Jack - Mick Foley's original retirement match as it was career vs. title here. After their classic Rumble street fight, this match didn't top it but did its job in letting Foley end his career with a bang. The story was about Foley promising to come off the cage onto Triple H so he had the cage locked so they couldn't get out but eventually found a way out after he missed hitting Triple H with the steel steps. The ending involving the flaming "Barbie" & Cactus on top the cell was something.
No Way Out 2000
30- Man Royal Rumble Match - They show everything after Triple H entered since he wasn't involved in the entire Rumble unlike how it was on Flair & HBK's DVD sets. Hunter's time in the Rumble involved a confrontation with Steve Austin, a comedic moment involving The Hurricane, the return of Mr. Perfect, and the final moments between him & Kurt Angle.
Royal Rumble 2002
3 Stages Of Hell Match vs. World Heavyweight Champion Shawn Michaels - The story here was will we see the "humble" Shawn Michaels or "Heartbreak Kid?" Just a side note but watch before the match gets started as Ric Flair kept getting into it with the referee to the point where he gets shoved on his ass...it's funny. The street fight was brutal as they didn't do a lot of weapons spots but just instead beat the hell out of each other & occasionally use weapons such as a flaming barbed wire board. The cage match was around 10 mins. with the only memorable spot being HBK's dive onto Triple H though a table. The ladder match wasn't the caliber of HBK's previous ladder matches but it was still good considering the circumstances with the finish of HBK falling off the ladder though loads of tables being a highlight to the point where WWE continued to use that footage in their "Don't try this at home" advertisement before any WWE home video.
Armageddon 2002
Hell In The Cell vs. World Heavyweight Champion Batista - Their third, last, and best encounter. Many hardcore weapons (barbed wire chairs for example) were used. Triple H bleeds buckets once again as Batista wins with a spinebuster on top of the ring steps.
Vengeance 2005
Last Man Standing Match vs. Ric Flair - Triple H brought out the best in Flair (at this day & age) in their feud. Triple H was ruthless while Flair wasn't giving up until HHH had to use the sledgehammer to put Flair down. I enjoyed their cage match better than this but I think they put this one on here since Triple H won the match here.
Survivor Series 2005
vs. WWE Champions John Cena vs. vs. Edge - The match was good with Triple H being heavily busted open & all three men working well together.

Hog Pen Match vs. Henry Godwinn - I guess Triple H can laugh at himself because his was a "wrestlecrap" match that is really nothing special past the "blueblood" Hunter being tossed into a muddy pigpen complete with hogs.
In Your House Dec. 1995
1st Professional Match as Terra Ryzing vs. Flying Tony Roy - The match itself was nothing special but pretty funny to see the babyfaced Triple H with the mullet-like hairstyle back then. The commentary with Jim Ross & Triple H is the real highlight here.

In the end, this collection is giving me exactly what I want from a DVD set. None of these matches are on other DVD sets (besides the PPV anthologies), they brought back the alternative commentary, highlight special moments in his career, and the match quality is there. The only thing I can think of that is missing is a match with The Rock since that was one of the biggest feuds from the attitude era. In the end, I recommend.
