The Three Amigos - Outrageous (2003) Review

The Three Amigos - Outrageous (2003)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Get three of the popular Latino comedians together and you get three stand-up routines to enjoy. This isn't like as they say "the white" Three Amigos film (Chevy Chase, Steve Martin, Martin Short), which was a comedy, but this 2001 comedy concert film just borrows the "Three Amigos" title in a cute way.
The first comedian up is Freddy Soto who just recently died, July 10, 2005 of unknown causes. His routine in this film is 22 minutes.
You can also see him in Deadly Swarm (2003), Spanglish (2004).
Did you know Freddy Soto use to be a limousine driver for Richard Pryor?
Next up is Pablo Francisco. Pablo makes fun of bell-wearing on scrotum, Backstreet Boys,Ricky Martin, Jackie Chan, Arnold S. and movie trailer announcers. His routine in this film is 13 minutes long. You can also see Pablo Francisco in 1996-97 of Mad TV, Latino Laugh Festival: The Show (2004).
Third time is a charm and they save the best for laugh. We first saw Carlos Mencia on the January 15, 1994 live broadcast of Comic Relief 6. He currently has a limited comedy tv series, "Mind of Mencia", on the Comedy Central Channel.
Carlos Mencia was actually born in Honduras.
Mencia's routine in this film is 31 minutes.
No extras on this DVD, but you have the option of English captions, French, Spanish subtitles or just listen in English.
Okay, I'll shut up now.

Blue Collar Comedy Tour - The Movie (2003) Review

Blue Collar Comedy Tour - The Movie (2003)
Average Reviews:

The Blue Collar Comedy Tour isn't just for rednecks or blue collar workers- this is fun and laughter for everyone. There are no cusswords or adult content to cut out so even teenagers can watch this. Funny comedian Ron White is like a 21st century country-style Dean Martin. The other 3 comedians ( Ron White included ) along with Jeff Foxworthy also serve up their fair share of comic lines and laughs. Most people have only heard of Jeff Foxworthy due to his name & longetivity( including me until this ) but once you've seen & heard this you will want to enjoy it over & over.Great that these four comedians decided to tour together, film it & release it on video & dvd for us to enjoy.
Even you are alone you may be laughing out loud. The Blue Collar Comedy Tour was recommended to me by an African-American so it wasn't offensive to him either as he thought it funny-This is definitely not just for rednecks but for everyone. This is not just southern humor-the comedy is universally appealing. Buy it,rent it,don't miss out.You don't have to have a job with a nametag on it to enjoy this one.It doesn't matter who you are- this one's funny. It't not covered in moles. No one will literally throw you out of a place. There's your sign-You might be a redneck but you don't have to be one to laugh at this comedy.

Mike Birbiglia: What I Should Have Said Was Nothing - Tales From My Secret Public Journal
Average Reviews:

Mike Birbiglia is a pure talent and this DVD shows off his comedic skills. His humor is not offensive and in your face, but talks about everyday things and stuff that he loves like pizza. He humor is self depreciating, but not in a "woe is me" kind of way, but in a way that anyone can relate to. If he ever came to Minneapolis, which he needs to already, I would not mind taking my kid to his show. My kid wouldn't understand all of the jokes, but Birbigs is clean enough that I wouldn't have to cover his ears throughout.

Bill Hicks Live - Satirist, Social Critic, Stand-Up Comedian Review

Bill Hicks Live - Satirist, Social Critic, Stand-Up Comedian
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As one who worked in comedy clubs for years and saw hundreds and hundreds of so-called comedians, I can assert that only a handful of comics make a lasting impression.
Hicks was one of those. Though I only got to see him onstage for one week's worth of shows in 1987, his body of work thankfully became more commercially available over the next decade.
Hicks is one of the rare comics with a point of view that both skewers and embraces Mankind. He loved his country and his fellow man, and that gave him license to stab and poke at their flaws. He championed THOUGHT as the means to combat Mediocrity and the Sheep Mentality.
This DVD is a sufficient look into his mastery of his craft and his unflinching control over his audience. Sometimes his control of the audience was mixed with disdain towards them, too. But it was closer to "tough love" than animosity or condescension.
Not everyone will recognize Bill's brilliance and not everyone will "get" the humor. Actually, the brighter you are the more likely you will appreciate Bill Hicks.
Buy this DVD and be elevated to a higher understanding of how the interactive medium of stand-up can be used as a persuasive pulpit not for bullying or mass entertainment but for communal introspection and self-examination.

BILL HICKS - ON DVD AT LAST!Bill Hicks Live is the first official DVD release from the legendary and beloved comedian.Since Bill died in 1993, his work has reached a new audience and he has become a powerful cult figure. For these fans who never had the opportunity to see Bill in person, this DVD will be a revelation. The DVD captures Bill at his very best, with three of his legendary filmed performances: "One Night Stand" from the Old Vic Theatre in Chicago (approx 30 minutes)"Revelations" from the Dominion Theatre in London (approx 65 minutes) "Relentless", Bill’s breakout performance at the Montreal Comedy Festival (approx 70 minutes) The DVD focuses on his incredible live act, with Hicks hilariously assaulting the stage and the audience with a non-stop cornucopia of insights into our twisted world; the government, the military, the police, religion, smoking, pornography, drugs and of course, for those of you who are getting antsy, a couple of dick jokes. As a bonus, the documentary "Just A Ride" surveys Bill’s remarkable career with insights from his peers; including Brett Butler, Eddie Izzard, Richard Jeni, Jay Leno, David Letterman and Thea Vidale. (approx 45 minutes)Total running time: approx 3.5 hours of pure, unadulterated Hicks.

Comedian (2002) Review

Comedian (2002)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
"Comedian" chronicles Jerry Seinfeld's return to the comedy club circuit after dismantling his sitcom in 1998 and retiring his well-honed live routines in the HBO special "I'm Telling You For The Last Time."
And though the documentary has lots of stand-up comedy, as well as appearances by comics such as Chris Rock, Jay Leno, Garry Shandling, Robert Klein and Bill Cosby, this is not really a concert movie. It's actually a glimpse into the business of entertaining and the process behind making an audience laugh. "Comedian" is a funny movie, but it's really more about the humor of anxiety and self-doubt than punch lines.

Shot on digital video by Christian Charles (who directed Seinfeld's snappy American Express commercials) and crammed with excellent jazz and pop music, the movie follows Seinfeld and a young comic named Orny Adams as they hit the road, work on new material and perform on "Late Night With David Letterman." Adams -- keyed-up and hypersensitive -- doesn't fare as well as Jerry but given that he's sharing space in a movie with one of the most popular television personalities in history, he kind of has the deck stacked against him.
And yes, Seinfeld, after being out of the spotlight for a while, does remain an interesting personality, even more so when caught on a relatively candid camera (Jerry curses?). His backstage conversations with Leno, Cosby, Rock and Colin Quinn reveal a guarded camaraderie, and fans who spent a significant chunk of the '90s chuckling at the misadventures of Jerry, George, Kramer and Elaine will probably find it amusing that Seinfeld still actively worries he'll bomb in front of a crowd.
But for all Seinfeld's agonized fretting over writing jokes and winning the audience's approval, anybody who puts in 40-plus hours a week at an office probably won't find much sympathy for a guy who has been given hundreds of millions of dollars doing the very thing he loves to do.
Nevertheless, "Comedian" is a sharp, insightful, wry and occasionally stinging piece of business.

Jerry Seinfeld is a working stand-up comic again. COMEDIAN is a candidly revealing, intimately observed, and often very funny look at what it takes to be a comedian. On-stage, Jerry delivers his hilarious brand of observational humor. Off-stage, he struggles with difficult material, confronts self-doubt, revels in small successes, and accepts help and support from friends and colleagues, including Colin Quinn, Ray Romano, Chris Rock, Garry Shandling, Jay Leno, and Bill Cosby. COMEDIAN also discovers the sharp wit of rising young comic Orny Adams -- outspoken, insecure, and fanatical about becoming the "next big thing." What emerge are two fascinating journeys by two contrasting personalities who have some surprising parallels.

Blue Collar Comedy Tour Rides Again (2004) Review

Blue Collar Comedy Tour Rides Again (2004)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Four Knuckleheads Ride Again! If you enjoyed the first Blue Collar Comedy Tour, you will enjoy this one, too! If anything, the audience (Denver, CO) was more jazzed up for this show which added something to the production. At one point, Bill Engvall begins to crack himself up while improvising, which was funny.
Bill Engvall's - (Here's your sign!) Ironic wit is easy to enjoy and very funny. Among his bits are: DorkFish, Deerhunting with your Wife, Men are Simple Creatures, Pillow Talk
Ron White - (sober or soused?) Ron is dark, sarcastic, and mean. Among his funny bits are: Waiting for the In-Laws to die, Garth Brooks and Camping, and Trolling for a new father-in-law in the retirement home.
Jeff Foxworthy - I find Jeff the funniest of the bunch with a fresh-faced, wide-eyed, good-natured view of the absurd. His material was all new and fresh. His act included some hilarious pieces: Hoo-Hoos are Poisonous, Hunting at Home, Oreo Generation
Larry-The-Cable Guy - Git R Done! I don't care who you are, this is funny. Rude, crude, and socially unacceptable, Larry is the most juvenile of the group. His stories mostly involve his inbred, wild family: his sister, aunt, Grandma, and all the other zanies from double-wide heaven provide ample anecdotes with one-liners cascading one after another.
A lot of fun. Hope you enjoy this performance!

Jamie Foxx - I Might Need Security (2002)
Average Reviews:

This isn't something to watch with your family, but if you have a strong stomach for explicit sexuality at some parts, then it's impossible not to appreciate Jamie and end up in tears. I personally liked this much more than his other stand-up DVD, "Lost, Stolen, and Leaked." He talks a lot about his career as an actor, but it's not just the words but the physicality of his performance that makes him so hilarious and inimitable. I've tried to use his jokes myself, but his facial expressions and the way he says things are impossible to duplicate. In this way, Jamie definitely emotes much more on stage than, say, Jerry Seinfeld, whom I also like. But "I Might Need Security" is my favorite stand-up show yet.

Red, White and Brown (Two-Disc DVD/CD Combo) (2008) Review

Red, White and Brown (Two-Disc DVD/CD Combo) (2008)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Gut-bursting, pee-in-your pants comedy! It's that hilarious, enjoyable and extremely funny! Russell Peters is unleashed in `Red, White & Brown'. One of the top comedians right now and he truly delivers with his latest DVD release!
The Canadian stand-up comic won people over with his Comedy Central special "Russell Peters: Outsourced" back in 2006 and now the guy is just red hot!
His latest DVD release "Red, White and Brown" was recorded live at a sold-out audience at the WaMu Theater at Madison Square Garden and features material from his "HOMECOMING TOUR" and features 20 additional minutes not shown on the Comedy Central broadcast and also includes a full-length CD of the performance.
Featured on the DVD are the following segments:
1. Mele Mel Intro
2. DDR
3. Blame the Media
4. Cheap Indians Pt. 2
5. Louis Vuitton
6. Race vs. Culture
7. West Indians
8. Body Hair
9. World Cup
10. Deaf People
11. Credits
No one is spared in the audience. People in the audience of different ethnicity will be picked and utilized into his comedy routine as well as anyone in the audience. May it be the woman who gets up to go to the bathroom, to the man who brought his child to the performance, Russell Peters has a competent flow of comedy in which the pacing on the DVD is full of non-stop fun, one joke after the other and no pausing of laughter. Peter's comedy delivery, facial expressions of his comedy routine was done very well.
The accompany CD features the performance but where the DVD is about 1 hr. and 19 minutes, the CD is about 57 minutes long. So, more or less, the Comedy Central edited performance is probably what is featured on the CD and I've already listened to it several times. It's a very good comedy CD and even without the visuals of the DVD, the jokes are just as funny and hearing the audience laughing, gasping and cheering at each joke is heard clearly.
Overall, "Red, White and Brown" is an enjoyable, fun and fantastic performance. Russell Peters was on top of his game that night and it showed. You can't help but laugh at his comedy!
VIDEO & AUDIO:
Part of what makes a comedy performance on DVD work effectively is to show the audience and "Red, White and Brown" definitely has a good number of cameras to get close ups of reactions to closeups of the people that Peters targets for his jokes and a good angles from different parts of the venue and of course close up of Peters. Editing was done really well and thus you get good cuts of Peters and then various audience reaction.
The lighting was done really well inside the venue and overall a very good choice for venue for the performance.
As for the audio, the audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround and English Stereo. You can clearly hear Peters and the audience laughing and gasping, clapping at the jokes.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
There are a good number of special features included on this release. Included are:
* Featurette: White Jacket Bootleg - This segment features about 10 minutes of comedy focusing on "Women are Thinkers" and "David and Vickey". Both have optional commentary featuring Russell Peters, Clayton Peters and Director Jigar Talati.I have to say that the segment on "David and Vickey" was just hilarious. Two co-workers come to watch the show and Peters was just relentless in using these two in his bit. Well-done!
* Featurette: Support the Troops - This features comedy on the "USS Eisenhower" and "Saddam's Bitches in a Building" (with optional commentary featuring Russell Peters, Clayton Peters and Director Jigar Talati).
* Deleted Scenes: This feature scenes that were deleted from the extended play of "Red, White and Brown" but nevertheless, these additional scenes are equally as funny.
Additional Scenes: Filipino Mom
Additional Scenes: Indians and Filipinos
Additional Scenes: Ethnic Photos
Additional Scenes: Arab-A-Phobia
I was definitely pleased with Russell Peters "Red, White and Brown", his ability to continuously showcase joke after joke, incorporate the audience into his comedy routine quickly, no pausing just a smooth flow of comedy.
Again this comedy is no holds barred, Chinese, Indians, Jewish, African-American, Latino, Filipino, Italians, etc. Peters goes all out and overall, manages to have one well-done performance on DVD and also on CD.
As mentioned, a good comedy DVD needs to have good editing, good lighting, audience participation and a various camera angles and everything else to work well. In this case, the venue, editing, the various camera angles and audience participation was perfect. Sound is clear on both the DVD and CD and you can't ask for anything more. On the DVD, you get a good number of special features and the optional commentary for the featurettes as well.
I have no doubt in my mind that we will see more of Russell Peters in the near future. The man is one of the top comedians in North America right now and watching this... joke after joke and the way he presented it, everything worked on this DVD. Hilarious, no holds barred comedy at its best!
So, you're definitely going to get your money's worth for this DVD release. Russell Peter's "Red, White and Brown" is highly recommended!

Dice is one of the best ever. It shows in Dice Rules how much he has impacted people. Why not selling out MSG on top of that. The only reason I give this a 4 is because it isn't as intimate as Dice's other concerts. This has 20,000+ in the audience which makes it lose some sparkle. The jokes are great, and will keep you laughing.

I just saw this on the Comedy Channel. There are many comics out there who make me chuckle but this guy had me LMAO and ROFL, for sure, but the biggest compliment I could give him was that he had me laughing so hard I got into some serious snorting throughout the entire hour. If not for the commercial breaks, my laugh muscles may have cramped up but I want to live dangerously and own the uncut, uncensored and uninterrupted version, just to see if I can survive it.
I'm not even going to attempt to describe his act; I couldn't do it justice. Let's just say that he aloud says the things we all are thinking. You may even find yourself laughing while cringeing a little. I am female but I will admit his take on we women is dead-on.
I am definitely putting in my pre-order now.

Gabriel Iglesias is one funny dude. He has a lot of energy for a fluffy guy. I remember him when he was on the Nickelodeon show All That and he was funny on there. I didn't see anything of him for a couple years until I saw him on Comedy Central Presents (which was awesome). This routine is even better, partly because it's longer than the last one, and because it's got funnier stuff. He's great with impersonations, goofy voices, and sound effects. Brian Regan: Standing Up (2007)
Average Reviews:

Brian Regan is a great comedian for the whole family. My wife and kids love walking through the house yelling "What's the score, Brian?" "Snowcone! Whole snowcone for half game!" He's a great guy, and his humor is something you can enjoy with everyone.
If you own his live CD or earlier DVD, you'll find this contains almost all new material. One of the bonus features is his encore in which he does requests from the audience from his material. It's stuff you've heard before, but the funny way he points that out is hilarious ("You're out there going, 'Yep, that's the way I memorized it.'") His first Comedy Central Presents appearance is included and there's no repeats from the "Standing Up" special in it. If this is your first introduction to Brian's comedy, it's a great place to start. Grab his live CD next. The CC Presents half-hour show has some of that material on it, but it's still funny.
I wish there were more comedians out there like Brian. He manages to be funny without ever being vulgar. I don't know why he isn't more popular, but with his CC sponsored national tour maybe he'll finally get the exposure he deserves.
Keep up the great work, Brian!

Ron White - You Can't Fix Stupid (2006)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you love Ron White, like I do, your only disappointment with this DVD will be that his stand-up here just isn't long enough. It IS hilarious, in his usual uncompromising way, and definitely left me wanting more. One nice addition on the DVD, though, is a pretty good "Behind the Scenes" bonus feature on which he talks about how he came to be a stand-up comedian. It's not as good as the stand-up, but it's fun to see.
I was also happy to see that the material is 99% new. My wife and I both love the "Drunk in Public," "They Call Me Tater Salad," and "All The Way to the Crash Site" stories, and other stuff, but it's good to see newer material that hasn't been played to death on cable yet. "Squirrel Man" is a great addition, as is the title bit.
If you're unfamiliar with Ron White, I suggest you check out some of his earlier stuff BEFORE buying or renting this DVD. He tends to make fun of his own life, friends, and family A LOT in his act, so you'll understand more of his references if you come to it having seen the earlier stuff. Also, if profanity or sexual references offend you, pay close attention to this DVD's R rating, because Ron definitely sees that rating as being there to make good use of.

Believe: The Eddie Izzard Story (2009)

For years Eddie Izzard has entertained my family and I both in his comedic performances and his film performances but never before have we seen this side of Eddie.
I saw Believe for free through Eddie, he posted temporary link via his twitter page and I have seen it several times. Believe is a wonderful and heartfelt look at the life of Eddie Izzard and I thought it was truly amazing. I really came to understand how Eddie comes up with all the great material and how a comedian works on a tour. *SPOILER* Believe touches on themes that are familiar to everyone and tugs at your heart strings, near the end when Eddie is speaking about his mother and mentions how he believes everything he has done was in an attempt to get her to come back, it connected with me, and others, and made me think of my own loss and how true his statement was. One woman even said "you kept me laughing even when I was so scared" and then I realized how many lives he has touched.
I have never laughed so much and yet cried so much all in one documentary, this is a true testament to hard work and never giving up. I finished this film and I believed I really could do anything if I truly believed. Thank you Eddie for sharing your incredible life with us, you are a truly stand up guy.
I hope the dvd has some good bonus features and I will update the review when my pre-order arrives. See this film and share it.

Jeff Dunham: Spark of Insanity (2007)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Spark of Insanity was far funnier than any previous shows in Which I have seen Jeff Dunham and his puppets. Contrary to the one negative opinion I have read about the performance, I didn't have to gauge the reactions of audience members to know when it was time to laugh. It was very funny, and I must say that his tackling an issue, such as terrorism, with comedy, was funnier than I would have even thought it would be. Dunham is a very talented ventriloquist, with a fine sense of comedic timing. I feel sorry for anyone who can't get a laugh out Spark of Insanity, their sense of humor is irreparably broken. Buy it, see it, enjoy it!
