(More customer reviews)Rubi was amazing on DVD. I have to admit I was a little iffy whether I should buy it because I have purchased other Novelas on DVD and didn't like them. I'm the first to admit, I was wrong. It has the whole show on it and it's not all chopped up either. It even has some extra footage and an alternative ending. I would strongly suggest this to any Rubi fan. The show was great and the DVD dosen't come far behind.

Rubi is an ambitious young woman, who all her life wanted to become rich. She studies in a private university, where she meets sweet and rich Maribel, and becomes her friend. Rubi is the only friend of Maribel, who doesn’t know that she wants to be her friend only because of her money. When Hector, a young and handsome architect with whom Maribel had been chatting on the Internet arrives at Mexico, Rubi meets his friend, Alejandro. Alejandro and Rubi immediately fall in love. Hector proposes to Maribel and she accepts. When Rubi finds out that Alejandro isn’t rich as she thought, she decides to break up with him and do everything in order to marry rich Hector, and finally get the life she always dreamed of.

Cuidado Con El Angel (2008) Review

(More customer reviews)Yeah, there's a few telenovelas out there. But they don't seem to be very well packaged or distributed. This year, it looks like that's going to change. I don't know why or how, but Cuidado Con El Angel has taken off like a rocket. It's talked about in the same breath as shows like Desperate Houswives or Lost. Think about it. It's not marketed to the general public. It's a household name in Hispanic/latin-american communities, but it went rogue and caught the attention of an audience who had never before paid attention to those sorts of shows before. Just like back in 1999 when Latin-American music artists came into vogue, I think 2010 will bring us another Latin explosion -- this time of soap opera stars. Something fun to watch out for.

I have been completely cheated by this DVD set. HANG ON TO YOUR VHS TAPES OR DV-Rs BECAUSE HOURS OF PLOT HAVE BEEN CUT OUT WITH A DULL BUTTER KNIFE.
An appalling offering.

Sortilegio (2009) Review

(More customer reviews)Sortilegio is one of my all-time favorite telenovelas. The show features your typical telenovela hallmarks; with the over-the-top plot points, evil twins, kidnappings and classic lines. The production value is excellent--great scenery (makes me want to go to the Yucatan) and the chemistry between Jacky and William as Maria Jose and Alejandro is second to none.
As somebody whose Spanish is not their first language (or second, or third); I always purchase the novela DVDs to get the English subtitles. And, like all novela DVDs, 95+ hours of the original run show has been cut down to 17 hours. While I knew that the slashing of the novela was going to happen; I was keeping my fingers crossed that some of my favorite scenes/parts/plot lines wouldn't get cut. Overall; the flow/comprehension of the storyline is good and what they cut made sense, but I was still seriously disappointed that some of (in my mind) the best scenes were left out. I am slightly biased towards the love story between Maria Jose and Alex, and some of their best scenes were omitted (ie. hotel scene, cenote) and some of the lighter moments with son Tony heavily glazed over. I would have preferred to have those scenes included and some of the parts with the b-storyline and secondary characters get the axe.
I'm not sure who decides to make the dvd 17 hours long; but a few more hours would have made the world of a difference in my mind--I've seen other novela sets with 20 hours or so, so it's do-able.
The extras include bloopers, "music video" to Il Divo's interpretation of the theme song (which you will hear over and over and over and over and over and over throughout all the discs) and a "making of" feature which basically is various vignettes that were created to promote the show. I wished novela dvds had some of the more higher-end features/elements of other TV show dvds...would have found some type of commentary interesting.
All in all, the DVD is a must have for Sortilegio fans. The story of Maria Jose and Alex is my favorite and always brings a smile to my face!
