Fit Kids Classroom Workout DVD Review

This is a fun video for the students to workout. I used it in my music room along for the Music and PE classes for FCAT week so PE wouldn't disturb testing classrooms. I suggest it's only good for upper 3rd graders and up. In fact, some of my 2nd graders begged to try it and could do some of the workouts. Some of the moves are dorky in the children's eyes, but if you encourage them to let loose and have fun, then they will!!!
The workouts are broken into 4 different 5.5 min sections.
I rated each one with a 1-5 for difficulty
(1 being the easiest and 5 being the hardest):
~ Hip & Happening Kardio Funk (3)
Uses newer dance moves
~ Drum Beating, Foot-Stomping African (5)
difficult body movement combos
~ Shimmy, Shaking, & Loving Latin (4)
I have the boys stand in the front facing the TV while this section uses upper body shimmies and booty shaking (nothing dirty)
~ Heart Pounding, Arms Pumping Aerobic Dance (1)
Based on 80's style dancing and uses similar musicSince I did this for 5 days for 4 classes (2 hours a day) along with a CD with the younger children, I lost 15 pounds! LOL I even brought it home to my roommate and we ended up laughing and giggling while we stomped and shimmied our way to weight loss.
Buy it and HAVE FUN!

Re-energize your students with these fun, contemporary dance routines! The Fit Kids\' Classroom Workout can be used in any school space, anytime, any day to invigorate and motivate your students. It gets students excited about being physically active and provides an ideal break from the day\'s routines. It can also be used as a warm-up to other physical activity.

The program includes four 5-minute and two 10-minute workouts, plus a brief "healthy message” at the end of each exercise segment. Each classroom workout teaches moves from a different genre:

- Hip & Happening Kardio Funk - Drum Beating, Foot Stomping African- Shimmy, Shaking & Loving Latin - Heart Pounding, Arms Pumping Aerobic Dance

The two 10-minute choreographed workouts—"Getting Funky” and "Loving African” —link the moves that have been taught during the four shorter workouts, while the six healthy messages provide basic information about the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

Sesame Street - Elmocize (1996) Review

Sesame Street - Elmocize (1996)

If Elmo were interviewed, and they asked him about "Elmocize," he'd have to make excuses. He was young... he didn't know what he was doing.
We own this tape as part of our VAST Sesame Street and Elmo collection, since our daughter loves the furry red monster with every ounce of her being. But I have to say that "Elmocize" is the absolute worst Elmo video out there (well, that we've found, anyway). The concept, getting kids to move to the beat, have fun, and exercise with Elmo, is a good one. However, this unfortunate tape was made at one of the low points (in my opinion) in Sesame Street history. The cast at the time was, er, less than talented. So, I have to agree with a previous reviewer--the poor girl who runs the dance studio couldn't sing her way out of a wet paper bag (I guess that's why she's a dancer!). It's not ALL her fault, though--the songs are really weak here! It starts with the insipid "Elmocize! Elmocize! Everybody . . . Elmocize!" Repeat, repeat, repeat. You'll be thinking "Elmocide! Elmocide! Somebody . . . commit Elmocide!" And we LOVE Elmo! Even the Sesame Street kids on the tape seem really, really bored--like they'd rather be studying multiplication. Put it this way--when and if our daughter ever gets to that "rip the tape out of the cassette for fun" stage, I hope this one's the first to go.

Denise Austin's Fit Kids Review

Denise Austin's Fit Kids

Denise Austin needs to stick with making exercise videos for adults. This video isn't kid friendly, and doesn't have a good feel for kids. To be honest, it is very close to most of Denise's exercise videos for adults. What Denise has forgotten, or may have never known, is kids are kids, and they need to be treated accordingly, and that means with exercise videos to.
A good choice for kids is - Kick to Get Fit Jr. -For Kids, this video is done by a qualified kid's fitness professional, not someone who is just throwing adult type movements at kids, and just hoping they can do them.
My kids are NOT at all happy with this program. There are 6 & 10 years old, and they were bored & turned off by this video within the first 5 minutes, mostly because they didn't understand the movements, and then found most of the other movements very hard to do. Once again, the forgotten point - Kids are kids, and they need to be treated accordingly. One last point, in the video Denise mentions that she received information from a variety of different professionals in the field of children's exercise & fitness. This is all good except they all forgot one VERY IMPORTANT DETAIL,- You MUST be able to teach & instruct children at a level they understand. Just because you know something about exercise, it doesn't mean you are able to teach it to children. Knowledge is one thing - Teaching & Instructing is another, and the fact is, some people are just not very good at instructing children. A point that is very clearly displayed within this program.
