The King of Queens - The Complete Second Season (1998) Review

The King of Queens - The Complete Second Season (1998)

The King of Queens is still the one of the funniest shows on TV. I loved watching the second season on DVD. Kevin James and Leah Remini have great chemistry as a married couple, and Jerry Stiller is so funny as Arthur. The story lines on the show are so funny and simple. My favorite episode is the one about how Doug and Carrie meet for the first time. The episode where Doug tries so hard to rekindle the romance in his marriage by giving Carrie flowers is very funny too.I also loved the episode where Doug takes Arthur to a baseball game after he accidently hurts his feelings. Jerry Stiller is just hillarious in the episode where Arthur gets a job managing a pretzel shop. I also enjoyed the episode where Doug buys a RV trailer and argues with Carrie about where to go on vacation. Victor Williams, who plays Deacon Palmer on the show is Doug's best friend and a perfect supporting cast member. One of the funniest episodes of season 2 is where Doug and Deacon go to Atlantic City to go gambling.
This DVD does not include interviews with the cast members like on the 1st season DVD, but it does have a feature called A Day in the Life of Kevin James. It shows Kevin James going on various talk shows like Conan and Regis and Kelly and having fun playing baseball. This extra feature shows that Kevin James is such a nice person in real life. This DVD is really fun to watch. I can't wait until the 3rd season of the show is released on DVD.

The King of Queens - The Complete First Season (1998) Review

The King of Queens - The Complete First Season (1998)

This is a value packed, well-priced, three disc DVD set that has the entire first season of this very funny show, including the pilot and two bonus shows for a total of twenty seven hilarious shows. Fans of Kevin James , Leah Remini, and Jerry Stiller will be in seventh heaven with this first season set. The show is sort of an updated "Honeymooners" and an absolute laugh riot. It is definitely a keeper and well worth having in one's collection.
Kevin James plays the role of the role of the portly, but adorable, Doug Heffernan, an International Parcel Service delivery guy and husband to the earthy and sexy Carrie (Leah Remini), who clearly rules the roost. They live in a modest house in Queens, one of the outer boroughs of New York City. Carrie's father, the idiosyncratic Arthur Spooner (Jerry Stiller), for reasons made clear in the pilot episode, also joins their household. His living with them adds to the many comedic moments of this popular television series. There is a funny group of friends, odd neighbors, and other assorted characters that drift in and out of the Heffernans' daily lives, adding to the comedic zest of this comedy series about middle class life in one of the outer boroughs of New York City.
The casting is perfect. The series is very funny with well-written scripts and excellent performances by its very talented cast. What more can a viewer ask for? This is an excellent, value laden, three disc DVD set, replete with a pilot episode commentary by Kevin James and the show's creator, Executive Producer Michael Weithorn. This DVD set also has a feature in which the cast of the series takes the viewer behind the scenes, as they look back on and reminisce about the show's first season. All in all, this is a value priced DVD with crisp, clear visuals and audio. It is absolutely one of my favorite comedies, and I am happy to have the entire first season. I look forward to getting the succeeding seasons, as they become available.

Doug and Carrie Heffernan are a loving blue-collar couple from Queens, New York, who share their humble home with her eccentric father Arthur. After a long day's work as a parcel deliveryman, Doug retreats to his home for some peace and quiet, which is often interrupted by Carrie's slightly bizarre father, for whom they hire Holly, a dog walker, to take him on walks so he's not cooped up in the house all day. Stars Kevin James, Leah Remini, Jerry Stiller, Victor Williams, Patton Oswalt, Larry Romano and Nicole Sullivan. Three disc set with all 25 episodes from the first season - including the pilot episode and bonus features!

The Bob Newhart Show - The Complete Fourth Season (1972) Review

The Bob Newhart Show - The Complete Fourth Season (1972)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The fourth season (1975-1976) of "The Bob Newhart Show" is right up there with the second season, and perhaps even a bit better. Some of the funniest episodes from the fan polls are from this season, and while there are perhaps a few fewer recognizable faces as guest stars, you will still see a few. The writers and cast by this point have both hit their stride, and the chemistry is phenomenal.
The Season is book-ended by appearances by Tom Poston as The Peeper, Bob's college buddy whom Emily can't stand. Of course, Tom would go on to be a regular in Bob's next sitcom "Newhart", and then there is the irony that Tom and Suzanne Pleshette would eventually get married. In-between, there are many events, including the death of Mr. Gianelli ("Death of a Fruitman"), Carol gets married ("Carol's Wedding"), Bob hosts an arrogant French psychologist ("Shrinks Across The Sea"), Bob forms a short-lived partnership with another psychiatrist ("Seemed Like a Good Idea At the Time") and many more.
Two of the funniest episodes ever are in this season with "Who Is Mr. X?", where Bob is ambushed by a morning talk-show host and is so flustered he reveals that one of his patients is a public servant. The other classic is "Over the River and Through the Woods", in which Bob gets out of a trip to Seattle over Thanksgiving by claiming that his patients need him. He ends up hosting a party with Jerry, Howard, and Mr. Carlin in which they all drink too much watching William and Mary's worst college football defeat, and make the funniest call for Chinese food ever recorded. I also very much like "Bob Has To Have His Tonsils Out, So He Spends Christmas Eve In The Hospital", and the title explains the plot to that one.
All in all, there are 24 episodes on three 2-sided DVDs, just the same as the first three seasons. Also like seasons 2 and 3, there are five episodes with commentary, but I have to say that the commentary has improved this season; perhaps because they have more people participating in them. I would still not call them great commentaries, but they are significantly better than the prior seasons. There is a short season 4 feature, and there is also a gag reel. In all, this is probably the best set of features they have included, but more importantly this is the season with the funniest episodes.

Step Brothers (Single-Disc Unrated Edition) (2008) Review

Step Brothers (Single-Disc Unrated Edition) (2008)

I don't understand how people didn't like this movie.... I take that back. I expect that people didn't like this movie because they expected something smarter. For the record, don't expect this to be an intelligent comedy. It's not. At the same time, I think it's absolutely hilarious. I'm a firm believer in setting our own expectations. If you expected Twister to be some amazing, epic film, then you were probably disappointed. If you expected it to be a movie about a tornado, you were most likely entertained. The same applies to this film. Don't go in expecting an artistic masterpiece. It's crude, rudimentary comedy, and it's nice to be spoon-fed ridiculously "insipid" humor from time to time. I. Loved. This. Film. It's ridiculous, just don't expect too much.

Brennan Huff, a sporadically employed thirty-nine-year-old who lives with his mother, Nancy. Dale Doback, a terminally unemployed forty-year-old who lives with his father, Robert. When Robert and Nancy marry and move in together, Brennan and Dale are forced to live with each other as step brothers. As their narcissism and downright aggressive laziness threaten to tear the family apart, these two middle-aged, immature, overgrown boys will orchestrate an insane, elaborate plan to bring their parents back together. To pull it off, they must form an unlikely bond that maybe, just maybe, will finally get them out of the house.
