Kenny Vs. Spenny - Season One (2003) Review

Kenny Vs. Spenny - Season One (2003)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Is 'Kenny Vs. Spenny' the greatest television show in the history of television? Probably. Is Kenny Hotz one of the most interesting people in the world? Yep. Does Spencer Rice deserve the constant humiliation he is subject to? Absolutely.
The show's concept is basically this: two Canadian best friends challenge each other to various competitions. The winner of said competition gets to humilate the other. Its a fairly simple premise that allows the two friends to try and outdo one another in anyway they can think of. First, we have Kenny Hotz: deviant mastermind who loves video games, not bathing, and going to any lengths to destroy his best friend, Spenny. Secondly, we have Spencer 'Spenny' Rice: a neurotic, by-the-book goon who deserves to lose. And lose he does.
While all 24 episodes are hysterical, some of the highlights of season one are: 'Who Can Gain The Most Weight?', 'Who Is The Better Boxer?', 'Who Is Saner?', and 'Who Can Live In A Van The Longest?'.
This set contains 24 episdoes of the first season of the show. Watch as Kenny humiliates Spenny...you will love it. Guaranteed. 'Kenny Vs. Spenny' is probably the funniest television show in the history of the world.

Canada's odd couple of competition - best friends pitted in battle - glory for the winner and humiliation for the loser.Roommates and filmmakers Kenny and Spenny (Hotz and Rice respectively) have torqued up the old playground challenge to a whole new level of humiliation and degradation. From the physical (Who can lose the most weight?) to the psychiatric (Who is the sanest?) to the psychotic (Who can sit on a cow the longest?), Kenny vs Spenny turn the tables, cameras and just about everything else upside down in twenty-four no holds barred bouts of hilarity in the most unique offering in the "reality competition" genre.Kenny is the self proclaimed 'devious genius,' a schemer and a cheater - "I'm like the tormenting brother he never had and probably didn't want." Spenny is neurotic, stressed-out, ethical and by-the-book - "Winning one by playing fair is more satisfying than winning a thousand times by cheating." And so the battle of GOOD vs EVIL rages on!

Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List - The Complete First Season

Aside from being one of the great stand ups of our time, Kathy puts her money where her mouth is and invites a camera crew to spend some time filming her, her husband, her parents, her put upon assistant Jessica(?) and her dogs while she makes personal appearances and generally tries to score free stuff. Beloved by gays for demystifying the celebrity "gift bag" and the hefty portions of celebrity dish she serves up, Griffin shows that she does not need to be onstage to be funny. Her observations are razor sharp, but she also pokes fun at herself and her celebrity status as a D list celebrity. There are still some remains of a little greasy triangle on my TV screen from my nose pressed up against the picture tube (At least that is what I tell everyone it is)during what has to be the funniest 6 hours of television- rivaled only by the second season. Here is hoping for lots of extras. Kathy has something for everyone to laugh at...er with. I'm hoping for a big gift set with the 2 (so far) seasons and all her Bravo concerts. Griffin not only dishes the dirt- she makes it taste like a five star meal! Buy it Buy it buy it!

Saturday Night Live: The Best of Cheri Oteri (2004)
Average Reviews:

This is one of my favorite SNL DVDs. I've always wondered why these DVDs weren't longer; they could easily fit twice the skits on one disc. Still, they chose Cheri's material well: Nadeen's "simmah" skit with Tobey Maguire, Collette's prescription chase with John Goodman, Cheri's horny wife to Chris Kattan's horny husband with Sarah Michelle Gellar, and the classic Mrs. Delvecchio skit with Christopher Walken...not to mention 2 awesome cheerleader sketches. All of these characters had other great skits as well (the horny husband and wife buying a car from Ben Affleck was priceless) but this is a solid 80 minutes of comedy for a great price. Pick one up - you won't be sorry.

Cheri Oteri's peppy, energetic style always made her characters on SNL hilarious to watch. From physical comedy (along side Will Ferrell) as the Cheerleader, Arianna, to impressions of Barbara Walters and Judge Judy, to wacky characters like Rita Del Vecchio, Nadeen or prescription drug junkie Collette Reardon, Cheri made audiences laugh so hard they often needed time to "Simma Down." Now you can own the best of Cheri's performances on one DVD. Be sure check out the bonus features such as the audio commentary and get a first-hand account of SNL from Cheri herself, as well as a sketch from a dress rehearsal that's never been seen until now!

This could be the funniest show on TV. I would love to know how they create this show. Do they start with "endpoints" (crazy scenarios) and figure out how Tim would wind up in them in the first place? Or do they say, "What if Tim fought an old man?" and go from there. Either way, this is a freaking hysterical show,

Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Complete Sixth Season (2007) Review

Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Complete Sixth Season (2007)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The sixth season of critical darling Curb Your Enthusiasm delivers the same Larry David and his life of absurd self-sabotage that has entertained viewers for nearly a decade. With an almost reality-TV improv feel, Curb follows the Seinfeld co-creator through his miseries and mishaps brought about by his George Costanza-like neuroses and over analysis of everyday situations.
As with previous years, Season 6 is tied together by a single overarching plot. In the first episode, Larry's wife convinces him to take in a family displaced by a recent hurricane. The Black Family (whose name mirrors their race, a joke not lost on Larry) work their way into each episode, as either an extra source of frustration for our perpetually exasperated hero or as a source for an alternative perspective when providing Larry with advice. In another example of art imitating life, a second extended plot develops involving the breakdown of Larry's marriage, just as he is going through divorce proceedings in real life. Cheryl's character doesn't seem as important in Season 6, also possibly the product of Larry's real life matrimonial problems. His frustrations with Cheryl take a meaner, more mocking tone (her absurd reaction to Larry and the Blacks desire to use non-recycled toilet paper being the best example). Larry's real life soon-to-be former wife is a champion of environmental and other causes, a trait she shares with Cheryl and one that Season Six paints as naïve and misguided.
Richard Lewis, Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen continue their real life roles as Larry's friends and have no problems mocking their own image (where else can you see great moments like an uninvited drunken limo driver crashing a party and taunting Ted Danson by calling him "Becker"?). Season 6 adds Lucy Lawless, Senator Barbara Boxer and John McEnroe in small parts as themselves, each bravely portraying an exaggerated and ridiculous version of who they really are, but one that fits perfectly with Larry David's view of the world...and one that echoes the spirit of this irresistible show.

Married...with Children: The Complete First Season (1987) Review

Married...with Children: The Complete First Season (1987)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Finally, after a very long and restless wait, "Married with Children: Season One" is now available to own on DVD. Considered one of the raunchiest and most vulgar shows in its time, these 13 glorious episodes are here for your viewing pleasure for the very first time on DVD. These guys ain't the Cosbys, that's for sure.
The show revolves around a shoe-salesman, Al Bundy, and his lovely (lovely??) family. His wife is always on his case about money and refuses to clean or cook the house. The kids are always driving him up the wall with their constant bickering and getting into trouble. The only sane one in the family appears to be sane is the dog (although he doesn't really do much). Yep, it's "Home, Sweet Hell" for Al Bundy all day, every day. You can just feel the love.
I forgot how funny the first season was. I don't think a second went by where I wasn't laughing hysterically at the Bundy hijinx that was occurring in each episode. Personally, I think Al Bundy has some of the funniest lines ever. All 13 episodes are some of the funniest TV you'll ever see. It's nice to finally see them earn a home in the DVD world.
Here are the 13 episodes that are included in this set:
"Pilot," "Thinergy," "Sixteen Years and What Do You Get," "But I Didn't Shoot the Deputy," "Have You Driven a Ford Lately," "Whose Room is it Anyway," "Al Loses his Cherry," "Peggy Sue Got Work," "Married' Without Children," "The Poker Game," "Where's the Boss," "Nightmare on Al's Street," and "Johnny B. Gone."
This 2-disk DVD set also includes extra features like bonus trailers and the "Married with Children Reunion Special" that aired on FOX awhile back. The picture and sound quality is pretty good, considering how old the show is.
"Married with Children: Season One" is a must-have for any Married with Children fans. Hey, with Christmas coming up pretty soon, this would make a great gift. The Bundys were a crazy family, but they were family nonetheless. Check out these 13 episodes as soon as you can and prepare yourself for some high quality entertainment.

Mitch Fatel: Mitch Fatel Is Magical (2009) Review

Mitch Fatel: Mitch Fatel Is Magical (2009)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
One can expect sexually perversion at an all time high on this Comedy Central DVD. "Sex". Mitch Fatel's comedy revolves 100% around it and he never strays.
Known for his comedic delivery (ie. he sounds like he's mentally challenged), Mitch Fatel is a comedian who loves women, loves breasts and loves sex. In fact, he'll let you know several times about his love for women and their bodyparts and getting laid.
His comedy is literally uncensored and he spares no one from the audience as he will talk about his love for breasts, big and small. His love for the vagina, sexual positions, sexual garments, using his popularity to get women, and literally sex this and sex that. It's literally a sex-driven comedy act and again, for Fatel it has worked successfully for him. His popularity has led to two comedy albums "Miniskirts & Muffins" and "Super Retardo" and now, here we are with his comedy special on DVD extended and uncut!
Fatel shows no worries or hesitation about the things he will discuss. From bestiality, what he finds on the Internet to having sex with a woman having her period. Fatel is literally not afraid to discuss sexual taboos and not afraid to use himself as the guinea pig for his jokes and the crowd loves it.
The track list for "Mitch Fatel is Magical" goes into several topics. Here is the DVD track listings:
1. The Pre-Sex Warning
2. Girls Like Me Now
3. Sex with Horses
4. Super Famous
5. Candycane
6. The Panty-Pull-Aside Move
VIDEO & AUDIO:
"Mitch Fatel is Magical" is presented in Widescreen. Camera shots are either typically up front and some focusing on the audience in the front row (who will occasionally be used in Fatel's comedy routine). Another camera behind the audience but overall, several camera angles and good editing make the comedy fluid and smooth. No special effects or crazy use of editing during the whole hour.
As for audio, audio is presented in English Stereo and English 5.1 Surround. For the most part, dialogue is easy to understand and is front and center channel driven. I preferred to watch the the DVD with my receiver set to stereo on all channels for a better, more immersive sound with the audience.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
"Mitch Fatel is Magical" comes with the following special features:
* Mitch is a Big Star - (:47) A deleted scene with Mitch Fatel getting upset with his water.
* Mitch is Photogenic - (:57) Behind-the-scenes on photographing the cover and main menu for the DVD.
* Mitch is Imitated - (2:43) Members of the audience tries to pretend to be Mitch Fatel.
* Mitch is Perverted - (1:08) Members of the audience talk about Mitch Fatel's perversion.
* Mitch is Reviewed - (:51) Members of the audience reviews Mitch Fatel's show (while the cameraman has his eyes on other things).
* Mitch is Talented - (2:29) Members of the audience talk about how talented and funny Mitch Fatel is. And also audience talking about how Mitch Fatel would be in bed.
* Mitch is Animated - (1:03) A comedy segment of Mitch Fatel discussing matching bra and panties with a FLASH based animation going along with the audio.
JUDGMENT CALL:
This is probably the raunchiest Comedy Central DVD that I have seen so far. But for the most part, I found it hilarious and entertaining.
Rarely do you find comedians who focus on sex only for their comedy act but Mitch Fatel has made it a career and it has worked. Most of the time, when a comedian gets into discussion about sex, the audience starts feeling a bit timid (especially for those that bring their kids to an adult comedy show) but in this case, this is strictly adult humor at its finest.
Mitch Fatel has no problems discussing his love for women and sex that nothing is left out. He'll get comedy about everything...the breasts, the vagina, the butt...you name it, his comedy routine has included it.
Needless to say, it all comes down to whether or not you're into this style of comedy. In a way, I was skeptical before because typically other comedians who have tried to do a comedy routine with more than 15-minutes based on sex, it just seems as if it didn't fit into their routine or that the audience was not feeling it. But the thing is, with Mitch Fatel...knowing that his comedy is 100% sex-driven, you know what you're going to get and just watch and have a good time.
Overall, "Mitch Fatel is Magical" is absolutely perverted...and satisfaction is guaranteed!

Is that a sparkle in his eye or is he just confused? With his innocence and friendly demeanor, Mitch quickly engages the audience and then catches them off guard with his mixture of mischievous dialogue and off color comments. While laughing at observations only Mitch can get away with we are left wondering if he truly understands what he just said. We never really know.

While this film is watchable, I definitely would rate this as the least liked of the corroborations between Cube and Mike Epps. I would also say it falls towards the bottom when you throw in the Friday series, and the other movies he's played a hand in creating. As a big Cube fan, musically and theatrically, this is hands-down one of his worst (which explains why it was never advertised before being released to the theater, and then quickly released to DVD). It has its moments, but those expecting the same quality of work will be disappointed.

Pink Panther 2 (2009) Review

Pink Panther 2 (2009)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Better sight gags, more inspired comic sequences, and an actually clever mystery plot make "The Pink Panther 2" a more confident and more enjoyable film than its predecessor, which itself was perfectly watchable.
Yes, I guess it's pretty clear that I'm one of those in the minority who don't think it's sacrilege that Steve Martin is trying to follow in the footsteps of the great Peter Sellers. Two things should be remembered on this score: Peter Sellers was extremely talented, no doubt, but his Inspector Clouseau was, well... a bumbling detective character. In other words, it's not the kind of subtle, nuanced character that another talented comic actor can't legitimately take a crack at. Secondly, people forget that critics weren't head over heels in love with the original Sellers Clouseau movies, either, especially his last two or three. Moviegoers tended to like them, but critics mostly dismissed them in favor of Seller's more serious comic works, like "Dr. Strangelove", "Being There", etc. So let's all get a grip now.
Myself, I enjoy Martin's take on the character. Seller's Clouseau was a complete boob who only solved crimes and attained fame completely accidentally, which was admittedly interesting. Martin's take is also interesting, though: his Clouseau is a complete boob at most things, but also has some legitimate detective skills. Those two divergent aspects of the same character makes Martin's Clouseau fun to watch.
So, is the film a comic masterpiece? Nah. But "The Pink Panther 2" is a lot of fun, and definitely worth a trip to the theater.

If you're looking just to enjoy the respective episodes of the Fantasy Factory 2 then this DVD is for you. However if you're looking for the same production quality found within the first season DVD that was released by MTV you may have to keep waiting. The episodes have no commentary, the menus are bland, and though the DVD does include deleted scenes you just can't pick a specific scene you have to watch them all. And the deleted scenes included within the dvd have poor sound quality with peoples voices randomly cutting in and out.

The fantasy continues for skateboarding legend Rob Dyrdek and his crew as they return for another quirky season of chaos and laughter at the Fantasy Factory. Packed with guest stars and even more action, Season Two is the Fantasy Factory at a whole new level. Along with Rob for the insane journeys are his cousin Drama, his naysaying manager, Jeremy, the "rapping receptionist" Chanel, and Rob's awkward, injury-prone skate coach, Big Cat. This season, the ridiculousness reaches new levels as Rob purchases and then jockeys his own racehorse, teams up with musician John Mayer to write an apology song for Rob's Mom, races alongside Ken Block in a miniature rally car, and triumphantly returns to the stage as Bobby Light with a little help from Travis Barker at a Blink-182 show. As always, the biggest and most obscure dreams become reality from within his headquarters - a fully skate-able, 25,000- square-foot warehouse in downtown Los Angeles known as "Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory."

Psych: The Complete Third Season Review

Psych: The Complete Third Season
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
"Psych" is one of those lucky shows that -- like a fine wine -- seems to get better as it ages. Not that you should stick it in a cellar and forget about it for fifty years, though. The third season of this quirky comedy/mystery show is definitely worth seeing at least a few times -- James Roday and Dule Hill continue to be absolutely hilarious as the faux psychic and his frazzled friend, and their cases continue to get even weirder.
"Psych" may be breaking up when Gus is given a choice by his boss -- his pharmaceutical job, or the agency. To prove their worth, Shawn offers to investigate the company VP's haunted house... and Gus soon finds that there's more than meets the eye to this haunting. Meanwhile Shawn's mother (Cybill Shepherd) drops in for work, stirring up some old skeletons for our favorite faux psychic.
Among the cases Gus and Shawn take on: a vanishing body at the high school reunion, a treasure map, the implosion of Henry's greatest case, roller derby robberies, Coast Guard clashes, a murdered sea lion, a body hidden in a Nativity scene, a firebug with a murderous secret, a murdered footballer, an old summer camp haunted by an axe murderer, and an attempt to clear the name of a pathological liar.
Their cases become personal when Lassiter (Timothy Ormundson) is accused of killing a drug lord, and Shawn is determined to prove that the disgraced cop didn't do it. And the Yin Yang serial returns to Santa Barbara, wanting Shawn as the newest "challenger." So he/she leads Shawn through a ghastly series of riddles... and if Shawn doesn't outwit him/her, those close to him may die.
Clearly Steve Franks is sticking to the old adage: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." "Psych" ain't broke, so the third season of coasts along smoothly in a flurry of pop culture references, bizarre dialogue ("Señor pantalones del fuego?") and crimes that befuddle the SBPD.
It does end and begin unusually -- the season premiere is a twistaround of the usual mystery, and finale quickly becomes a serious, deadly game of cat-and-mouse. But the mysteries in the middle of the season are perfect examples of "Psych": the writers deftly juggle funny-sounding plot twists (roller derbies, stowing away on a murderer's boat) with some twisty-turny police work.
There's even an endless parade of pop culture references -- "Speed," Hamlet, the Peanuts dance, "Gone With The Wind," and of course "Friday the 13th." However, "Psych's" biggest charm point has always been the insanely kooky dialogue. Mostly Shawn provides it ("Just once, can you grab life by the little Lassiters and follow your instincts?") but the other characters get some good lines here and there ("All I can remember after that are hundreds of those tiny razor sharp claws and teeth." "Lower primate my ass. I recognize a military formation when I see one!").
Roday is eccentric, charming and eternally kooky, as if Shawn is deliberately living out his life like a TV show. But he gets to show a very serious, intense side in the finale. Hill continues to be the normal one with a mild goofy side ("I'm King Kong!"), and gets to do a daring rescue by leaping through a wall of flames. And Ormundson gets to explore some of Lassiter's other facets (his crumbling marriage and his brief removal from the force).
The third season of "Psych" is all about the weird and the wacky, but also injects some very serious, very creepy moments as well. All around a wonderful success, and it bodes well for what comes up this summer.

Actual detective shows are kind of hard to find now -- let alone a funny, well-written detective series with a hilarious twist. That's where "Psych" comes on, on the heels of "Monk." While it could use a bit more ironing, this clever series does a good job blending comedy and mystery, and gives us some lovably fradulent guys to follow the adventures of.
Shawn Spencer (James Roday) was trained to be ultra-observant and intelligent by his strict, humorless father Henry (Corbin Bernsen), who wanted him to be a cop. And though he is determined never to be a cop (he doesn't even have a steady job), Shawn can glimpse clues and details that nobody else notices -- even the police.
But it backfires when he reports his observations to the police, and is arrested as a suspect. To save himself, Shawn pretends to be a psychic -- and the gimmick works so well that he decides to do it professionally. So he drags his very reluctant pal Gus (Dulé Hill) out of a boring job, and they end up regularly hired by the police chief, despite the skepticism of Carl Lassiter (Timothy Omundson), who doesn't buy their act.
And so they set out into a variety of cases: death at a spelling bee, a haunting at a sorority house, a wedding tainted by theft and murder, a ghostly stalking, a cat used as a witness, Civil war reenactments, a comic book convention (where they mess with George Takei's head), alien abductions, speed dating, underground poker, and organizing a surprise birthday party for Lassiter.
Most shows aren't really able to strike a balance between comedy and mystery, but "Psych" does. The mysteries are light and fun, and the people making it actually seem to be enjoying themselves -- no hardcore crimes, gore and grimness. That's what makes it so enjoyable.
The mysteries are well done, but each one has enough funny dialogue ("My name is Ichabod Fletchman, Sticky-Icky to my boys") and kookiness to keep it from ever being dull. Between kooky mysteries -- usually with Shawn flailing around in his pseudo-mystical act -- we get to see what turned him into such a weirdo, and his current relationship with his sarcastic father.
There is a slight flaw, though -- a disproportionate number of the guilty parties seem to be pretty young women. Fortunately this starts lessening as the season goes on. The mysteries get progressively tighter, and the writing cleverer and funnier ("I'm never doing anything blindly with you again! I learned that at the Mexican border. Twice!").
Roday is hilarious and brilliant -- charming, funny, likable, pleasant, and completely devoid of any dignity ("IIIIII hear a voice!"), with some great full-body acting. Shawn is one of those people who is half luck and half talent; no matter how outragous he gets, things somehow always work out.
Hill is equally great as his intelligent, responsible, geeky sidekick who tries to keep them out of serious trouble, while the crusty Timothy Omundson and tentative love interest Maggie Lawson round off the cast. Corbin Bernsen also makes regular appearances as Shawn's dad, who considers his son a walking freakshow.
"Psych's" first season is a delightfully frothy mix of comedy and mystery, with solid scripting and likable characters. Definitely a good show to keep an eye on.

Miss March (2009) Review

I really cannot find good reason to describe the plot in any detail, but sufficed to say two guys make a venture for the Playboy mansion in hopes of reacquainting with a lost love centerfold. In the interim we get treated to plenty of diarrhea, old sight gags, boring writing, unfunny jokes, and lengthy diatribe that would have been funny ten years ago. I can laugh at good fire service jokes, but the whole psychotic, sexless firemen gag running throughout the film was lame - and it would be nice if one film would actually show how the pumpers really work (sans the Con Air, Evolution, Miss March incorrectness)
The Blu pic is actually decent through most of the film, though delving into the B grade quality stock through several indoor sequences. Nothing to test the visuals as the cross country footage entails all of 30 seconds so that leaves the sound and supplements. The sound is uneventful and the supplements cater to the Whitest Kids U Know crowd.
The Viral Videos offering is a staged audition sequence that does not entertain much, but as stated the fans that have been renting the TV series are asking about this. The Down & Dirty uncensored (or edited option) allowed Craig Robinson (Pineapple Express, Zack & Miri, etc.) to have more of the only fun in the movie with his rapping video clip.
I have to admit Hugh Hefner has a natural screen presence and his 60 second sequence was actually appropriate - it appears he does not have to act, it just comes naturally, as does his explanation about how to treat women; skip the movie and just watch that one part.
The unrated is only 3:10 minutes longer and had nothing special to offer over the rated. I did verify they dubbed over the school speech in both versions, so I am curious what she was actually saying that they had to change it. Skipper.
