Saturday Night Live: The Best of Cheri Oteri (2004) Review

Saturday Night Live: The Best of Cheri Oteri (2004)
Average Reviews:

This is one of my favorite SNL DVDs. I've always wondered why these DVDs weren't longer; they could easily fit twice the skits on one disc. Still, they chose Cheri's material well: Nadeen's "simmah" skit with Tobey Maguire, Collette's prescription chase with John Goodman, Cheri's horny wife to Chris Kattan's horny husband with Sarah Michelle Gellar, and the classic Mrs. Delvecchio skit with Christopher Walken...not to mention 2 awesome cheerleader sketches. All of these characters had other great skits as well (the horny husband and wife buying a car from Ben Affleck was priceless) but this is a solid 80 minutes of comedy for a great price. Pick one up - you won't be sorry.

Cheri Oteri's peppy, energetic style always made her characters on SNL hilarious to watch. From physical comedy (along side Will Ferrell) as the Cheerleader, Arianna, to impressions of Barbara Walters and Judge Judy, to wacky characters like Rita Del Vecchio, Nadeen or prescription drug junkie Collette Reardon, Cheri made audiences laugh so hard they often needed time to "Simma Down." Now you can own the best of Cheri's performances on one DVD. Be sure check out the bonus features such as the audio commentary and get a first-hand account of SNL from Cheri herself, as well as a sketch from a dress rehearsal that's never been seen until now!

George Lopez - Why You Crying? Review

George Lopez - Why You Crying
Average Reviews:

I saw this on comedy central several months ago and resigned to the fact that it wasn't going to be released on DVD, but here it is. This truly is one of the funniest standup routines to ever be captured on DVD. If you haven't seen or heard George Lopez before, give him a try. It's not latino-exclusive humor. It really is universal, which is a credit to his enormous talent.

Katt Williams: Live (2006) Review

Katt Williams: Live (2006)

If you own The Pimp Chronicles Part 1 then you should avoid this. This had about 98% the exact same material performed in front of a different audience and in full screen. So I found it to be a waste of money. It's one thing for comedians to repeat a joke or two as a filler an to repeat the same material for new audience, but to release it twice? What a way to screw us out our money! So if you own The Pimp Chronicles Part 1, then this would be a waste of money, if you ask me. Either release, the comedy is hilarious and worthy of 5 stars but this specific DVD only gets 2 because it's the same. It's a waste of money if you have The Pimp Chronicles Part 1. But if don't have either, go with this one, as there are a couple extra and extended jokes.

Katt Williams, who got his big break as the scene-stealing, fast-talking pimp Money Mike in the film Friday After Next, currently plays "A Pimp Named Slickback" on the Adult Swim animated TV series The Boondocks and appears in MTV's Nick Cannon Presents: Wild `N Out. Not only is he one of today's fastest-rising actors, he's also one of the hottest comedians. Returning to his hometown of Cincinnati, Williams says and does exactly what he feels, provoking nonstop laughter on everything from sex, relationships and parenthood to his shattered L.A. illusions. Williams connects with his audience like few other comedians as he pimps out some street-savvy advice and outrageously funny observations.

Seems Like Old Times (1980) Review

Seems Like Old Times (1980)

Seems Like Old Time is still one of my all time favorite films. This film is almost too funny for its own good. A terrific throwback to the sophisticated comedies of the 30's and 40's updated for the 80's. It's too bad that they just don't make these kinds of comedies anymore. Goldie is in top form, Charles Grodin is so dry and wonderful and Chevy Chase should've never moved beyond this type of film. He and Hawn made magic before in Foul Play and it was great to see them together again. Buy it! Oh and keep any eye out for Aurora, the Parks' housekeeper and her infamous Chicken Pepperoni, no one can get enough of it.

David Kirsch's Sound Mind Sound Body Ultimate Fitness Boot Camp Review

David Kirsch's Sound Mind Sound Body Ultimate Fitness Boot Camp
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I like David's style in that he is trying to get the viewer to not only work on performing the exercise, he wants to get you to think about visualizing what it is you are trying to achieve. So he is constantly asking the exerciser to do a mind and body connection.
I would have given this video 4 stars had his cueing and pacing been consistent. I do a lot of home videos and so have seen good and bad. They perform on the sand on a beach and this may be a factor in how well he paces some of the moves. For instance he does an exercise where you swing your leg out in front of you in an arc and then do a squat. Well he does some of them at one speed then another speed and then yet another speed. It's means you find yourself out of sync with him if you keep a consistent rhythm going. This happens in at least three of the routines. The other point is he miscounts. He will say you have 5 more to go and then end in 3. Not a big thing but it is just one more thing that might annoy some.
I liked the actual exercises they are indeed going to make you feel like you have exercised. I usually use between 8 to 15 pound weights with most exercise training videos but not with him. Believe him when he tells you to get light weights. I use 3 pound weights and towards the end they seem impossibly heavy as he does a lot more shoulder work than most videos. High repetitions while also working the lower body will definitely make you feel it.

The Original Kings of Comedy (2000) Review

The Original Kings of Comedy (2000)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm going to start the review off with the obvious: this is not a movie, but rather a documentary on the Kings Of Comedy Tour. In other words, a stand-up comedy film. You're probably reading this and wondering "why would anybody sell a collection of comedy skits as a full-length feature film?" See the movie and you'll understand. While no doubt suited for television viewing (partly because they're all on BET), the experience in the theatre gives an overall impression of being there, actually watching Steve Harvey, DL Hughley, Cedric the Entertainer and Bernie Mac toss their routines live. As for the performers themselves, some of them are downright hilarious - I particularly like Steve Harvey and, of course Bernie Mac - while DL Hughley is kinda so-so, spending most of the time talking about panties and dissing audience members. But even the weaker performances survive because the performers are energetic and bristling with enthusiasm. This ends up making the material seem a lot funnier than it really is. I guarantee you'll find yourself laughing till you're crying over jokes that really aren't all that funny (like me as well as everyone else that was in the theatre). DL Hughley is no doubt decent overall, and Cedric the Entertainer has his shining moments, although as a whole they aren't really anything special. Emcee Steve Harvey and Bernie Mac, on the other hand, are awesome. Steve Harvey's material is actually funny to begin with (I LOVE the Titanic bit at the beginning), but a lot of it is inspiring as well. He manages to find humour in love, spirituality and family life without sounding blasphemous or disrespectful. Most importantly, he means every single word he says, and that connects with the audience all too well when talking about romance and love. As for Bernie Mac: THIS is the skit that makes the movie so good. Without a doubt the star of the show, Bernie talks rudely about his kids and his unique parenting techniques, and pokes fun at other parents. His subject matter can be a little risky, but he never comes through as disrespectful or snarky. Whereas Steve Harvey delivers his skits with pure honesty, Mac's charm comes from the fact that its obvious that not a single word of it is true. This allows him to explore territory that others may be afraid to. As a whole, this movie is highly recommended if you love to laugh. It is an entirely worthwhile way to kill two hours, and I can guarantee you'll leave the theatre (or television) with a gigantic smile on your face.

The Harold Lloyd Comedy Collection Vols. 1-3 (1923) Review

I am so looking forward to this release! I have seen only a few of Lloyd's features: Grandma's Boy, The Kid Brother, Speedy, The Freshman, Hot Water, Girl Shy and of course Safety Last! (I guess that's more than a few.) But the point is, most of these films have been hard to find; some have been unavailable for literally decades.
I think Lloyd as a silent comedian is second only to Keaton, and I say that as a Chaplin-lover. Buy this now!
