Janky Promoters (2009) Review

Janky Promoters (2009)

While this film is watchable, I definitely would rate this as the least liked of the corroborations between Cube and Mike Epps. I would also say it falls towards the bottom when you throw in the Friday series, and the other movies he's played a hand in creating. As a big Cube fan, musically and theatrically, this is hands-down one of his worst (which explains why it was never advertised before being released to the theater, and then quickly released to DVD). It has its moments, but those expecting the same quality of work will be disappointed.

Friday (Director's Cut) (2009) Review

this movie had what the sequels missed out on, smokey. he pretty much made the first movie. such memorable lines in this movie at such quantities, it's hard not to like it. "how do you get fired on your day off?" "what you stealin boxes for, you tryin to build a clubhouse?" i have seen this movie at least 100 times and still never grow tired of it. whenever i can't think of anything else to watch, friday creeps up and inserts itself into the dvd player. great great movie.
of course deebo was a great villian. there is allways that big @ss thug that wants to prove that noone can step up to him. what a better person to play that role then tom 'tiny' lister jr. maybe that guy from the green mile. chris tucker was absolutely amazing as a pothead. i don't think anyone could have pulled that role off better then him. ice cube did a great job as craig and i don't know who played as mrs. parker, but she did a good job too. then you have the corrupt preacher played by bernie mac. hillarious movie from beginning to end especially when they did the flashback scenes with smokey taking a hit of angel dust and finding himself in deebos chicken coop.
this movie had one of the best soundtracks ever put together. everything from ice cube and cypress hill to rick james and 2 live crew. best placement in the movie for the soundtrack had to be when craigs girlfriend got out of the car all pissed off and hoochie mamma was playing in the background. the best hood classic ever.

Just another day. But what a day. A day that shows a lighter side to life in the ’hood. That brought Ice Cube (Barbershop) and Chris Tucker (Rush Hour) to a wider audience. And that’s now even more uproarious in an Extended Director’s Cut never before available. It’s Friday, and Craig (Cube) and Smokey (Tucker) must come up with $200 they owe a local bully or there won’t be a Saturday. Co-writer Cube, director F. Gary Gray and other innovative movie talents lace the plot with shrewdly hilarious looks at family (including John Witherspoon), a preacher (Bernie Mac), a girl-next-door (Nia Long) and all manner of the good ’N’ bad of life in South Central. This is keepin’-it-real comedy for every day of the week.

Friday After Next (Infinifilm Edition) (2002) Review

Friday After Next (Infinifilm Edition) (2002)

Let's face it, the first one was the best. It came out of nowhere and became a decent hit which has grown into cult status in a very short amount of time. Chris Tucker and Ice Cube were perfectly matched and had a chemistry so palpable which made for a very enjoyable ride. Then, inexplicably Chris Tucker didn't appear in the sequel "Next Friday" (it was probably his choice not to return after the success of Rush Hour) and he was sorely missed. This second outing in the trilogy was boring beyond belief and, even though I had tried, I couldn't bring myself to like it.
Then, I had pretty much given up on the whole Friday thing until a friend of mine recommended that I rent this next installement. He told me he found it very funny and, not really knowing what to expect, I gave it a try. I must say my confidence was restored in the Friday potential and, even though this third act is not as great as it could have been, I found myself enjoying it quite a lot.

True, I am like most fans of Friday who all wish "Smokey" would come back. Chris Tucker made this role so memorable that everytime we get a new one, most of us secretly hope he'll be around. Well, no luck here either even though Mike Epps is doing quite a good job and is very funny in this. John Witherspoon as the father is always hilarious to watch and I found myself captivated by the pimp character, dressed in flamboyant costumes with an attitude to match. He was probably the best new character in the film in my opinion along with the new big tug around the block involved in a delicious storyline with homoerotic overtones.
My one regret about the Friday movies is the fact that Ice Cube doesn't give us the whole family anymore. What made the first one so enjoyable was the fact that they were all part of the scheme of things but now, we never get to see Craig's sister and his mother is only featured in a small thankless role. Frankly, she deserves much better.
There are some very nice gags and I laughed out loud at many of them. I must say I don't really care much for the infinifilm gimmick where you see the film as different options to watch the behind the scenes stuff became available all throughout. I either want to watch the movie without interruption or watch the special features and mixing the two is not my idea of fun. But maybe that's just me.
In conclusion, this third one is a good effort. It also made me hopeful that the fourth one (I am pretty sure there will be one according to what the actors said in the documentaries) will be even better, if we can finally have the chance to see every member of the family have a bigger part in the story. Good comedy worth a shot!

Lottery Ticket (2010) Review

Lottery Ticket (2010)

I just want say something in regards to any negative reviews regarding this film. First of all, this film is a comedy. Nothing more. Nothing less. All political correctness should go out the door when it comes to viewing a comedy film. Secondly, this film delivers on what it's advertised to be. A comedy. Yes, this movie does ask the question of what would you do if you won the lottery. The character in this film does, indeed, make the choice that will not only benefit himself, but, also others. I, for one, loved the film and would recommend it to anyone who wants to see a true comedic film. Much props to Bow Wow (whose acting does seem to get a little better with each film), Ice Cube, Mike Epps, Brandon T. Jackson (who had everyone laughing their guts out), Charlie Murphy, and everyone else involved in this film. Also, notice how I didn't go deep into the plot of the story. Many of you can read that in the description box. I, for one, am tired of reading these "reviews" that go so deep into the plot description that it literally repeats what is written in the product description. Get on here, write about the movie in brief terms, state your opinion, and be done with it. LOTTERY TICKET is a winner. I will definitely own this film on DVD when it's released.

I thought this movie was funny, but I think it would have been funnier with Smokey. If you haven't seen the first one, watch it before you view this one or you may find it a bit confusing. If this movie had Smokey in the cast, I would have given it 5 stars. Overall, it is definetly a movie worth watching if you are up for a laugh.
