The Girls Next Door - Season 3 (2005) Review

It's about time to review the dvd's now that they have come out.
I've been a fan of the girls next door for quite some time now and I must say that the fans of this show are getting luckier and luckier.
Not only are the girls gorgeous, the lifestyle to die for and the entertainment non stop but it doesn't seem to ever get old, the first season was awesome, the second more so and the third even better. (Though I must say it does have my least favorite episode of all times in it, the other episodes make up for it.)
The DVD's contain all aired episodes of the third season, with deleted scenes attached to all episodes (something I love to watch, it just gives you a little something extra from the girls lives.) and the best part in my view, commentary by Holly Bridget and Kendra on all episodes which is, like many have said before, like twice the episode and adding to the episodes over-all quality.
Other special features include the hour long "Bedtime stories" special where the girls all sat down in Hef's bed an discussed their favorite moments from the first two seasons, the season 3 trailer which aired on E! when the season first started in march 2007 and a few Easter eggs on disks 1 and 3.
It's not an overstatement when I say that Holly Bridget and Kendra changed my life and to me the Girls next door is the gift that keeps on giving with entertaining episodes but more importantly endearing characters of 3 lovely ladies who know how to live life to the fullest...
You go girls!

The Girls Next Door - Season 4 Review

I have all the other seasons and really like the commentary on those episodes. This is no exception. The girls talk about lots of things concerning when and how they left the mansion and Hef. Kendra talks about Hank and who she's inviting to the wedding. Bridget talks some about her beach series. All of them, especially Holly, have less than flattering comments about the new girls. It's not too catty, but if you've followed the girls for all 4 seasons, it will give you some closure. As to the quality of the set, I ordered on that came with a broken case. Amazon replaced it quickly with another copy also broken. Cheap plastic quality it the reason. I just repaired the 2nd one with duct tape and kept it.

Land of the Lost - The Complete First Season (1974) Review

Land of the Lost - The Complete First Season (1974)

Wah Chang and Gene Warren were two VERY famous OSCAR winners for special effects in the original George Pal production of "The Time Machine" in 1960. They also did work on "The Outer Limits" for those that remember that sci-fi show. These legends were called upon once again to work in this landmark television series for kids that was a part of Saturday morning programs meant to stimulate the imagination and entertain. There were also quality writers gathered from Science fiction to write some of the plots that you will see here in this first season of shows. In describing the show it is much like a children's version of a Doctor Who adventure. Short on budget but excellent in imaginative designs and well written plots. So, like Doctor Who, you have to ignore the low budget stage pieces and let your imagination along with the dialog rule how you will judge it. The most interesting and innovative idea are a race of "silurians" known as "The Sleestak". One intelligent version of the Sleestak controls travel through time and we see experiments using "crystals" (ala' George Pal) as a means of power to alter the time universe. As the series progressed the plots became thicker and if you are a fan willing to look beyond the constraints of the program you will find it fascinating. Well recommended for kids and older "kids" too!

The Girls Next Door: Season 5 Review

The Girls Next Door: Season 5

Hugh Hefner invites everyone back into the exclusive world of Playboy through the eyes of his three Playboy models turned girlfriends: Holly, Kendra, and Bridget. Experience the luxurious life of the legendary Hugh and his ladies as they attend lavish parties, go on exotic trips and coordinate gorgeous (and steamy) photo shoots while living in the famous Playboy mansion.
The fifth season focuses on several different plotlines. Included amongst them are: Holly's special nationwide search of the perfect 55th Anniversary Playmate, Bridget's plans for a crazy Las Vegas wedding and her departure from the mansion to film a new series for the Travel Channel, and Kendra's participation in the world's sexiest softball game while also preparing for her own departure from the Playboy universe. This season, like previous ones, also features several celebrity appearances, including Anna Faris, Pamela Anderson, Stacy Burke, and Karissa and Kristina Shannon, two of Hugh's next girlfriends.
The most dramatic and emotional season so far, the fifth season of The Girls Next Door marks the final season to feature Hugh's original Girls Next Door girlfriends. At the end of the season, we get to see the actual departure of Bridget and Kendra, while number one girlfriend Holly didn't get a televised breakup -but she does allude to her impending breakup with Hugh.
The special features on this DVD set include a collection of features called "The Big Easy Does It," "Scubba, Scubba, Do!" and "Third Time's the Charming," which further document the lives and crazy happenings around the girls. There is also some absolutely hilarious commentary for each episode provided by Holly, Bridget, and Kendra. There are even deleted and bonus scenes that are just as amazing and ridiculous as the series itself.
I'm not really sure what it is about these girls that we love so much. Could it be because we envy them? Do the lives of these women appeal to some fantasy that we have? Do we enjoy seeing behind-the-scenes of Playboy? Or do we just like laughing at how utterly ridiculous these girls are?
While at times emotional and heartfelt, The Girls Next Door - Season Five marks the end of an era for the series and for Playboy. While this show is completely mindless entertainment, it is hilarious and Holly, Bridget, and Kendra will be missed. The series will still continue for at least another season, and the change in leading ladies could bring a fresh face to it -- or destroy it completely. Only time will tell.
