The Bar Method Body 2-Pack (Fat Free / Designer Sculpting) Review

The Bar Method Body 2-Pack (Fat Free / Designer Sculpting)

(More customer reviews)
This DVD set ranks on top of all my fitness videos I own for one big reason: I'm actually getting some great results QUICKLY. I'm now addicted to these type of exercises and loving every minute of it. I still have a lot of weight to lose, but these exercises are making me look good now!
The Bar Method exercises are deep muscle, non-impacting, very precise exercises that nearly everyone can do. Beware, because the exercises are precise YOU WILL FEEL THE BURN VERY QUICKLY, especially the exercises that target the hips, thighs, and buttocks. The movements are small, but have lots of repetitions. By the time you reach your last rep, if you last that long, you will be begging for mercy. As you increase your endurance, you may want to repeat certain chapters of you favorite exercises to maximize your potential. After each set of exercises, you will do deep stretches that will feel oh-so good. Oh, yes, modifications are shown for beginners (or for those less flexible) so they won't miss out on the exercises.
The tools you will need to do these exercises are two lightweight dumbells (for Designer Sculpting), a strap, and a barre. If you don't have a barre, a sturdy chair or piece of furniture will do nicely. Two participants in the video work with a chair. The barre is needed mostly to keep your balance; you will not be leaning on it for support unless your severly balance impaired.
Designer Sculpting is my personal favorite. There's lots of intense deep seat work on this one. Fat Free is not as deeply intense (don't get me wrong - it's still intense), yet its a wonderful full body workout that totally compliments and finishes off what's done on DS. Very few of the exercises are repeated in each workout, so you won't be doing the same old thing in each video. Designer Sculpting is concentrated, deep sculpting work; while Fat Free goes a bit faster and tightens the body up.
I found Burr Leonard very enjoyable to workout to. She's an older woman, in her late fifties as she states in her videos, who has a great, youthful looking body. She's friendly, sweet, a bit peppy, and not overbearing. I chuckle everytime she says, "Ten more, and then we'll break." At that point, I'm usually in deep burn, so I wonder to myself - "Does that mean we're going to stop or just shatter?" Maybe it's both.
Again, the one thing that has me totally sold on these videos is the great results I've gotten in such short amount of time. I did these videos 3 times a week for 2.5 weeks and then took a few days off being lazy. I few days later I was shocked to find my rear end looking noticeably better! I wasn't even looking to improve that area - I kind of gave up hope on it until after I would have lost all 45 lbs. But, this was the first place it showed up. Even my husband noticed (and loves it!) without being prompted. I've continued to do these exercises, alternating as of lately with Callanetics to avoid boredom. Now, 2.5 months later, my behind has completely changed and is still improving! It's nowhere near what it used to be and I love it! Poor eating habits have kept me from losing the weight I want to lose (I was losing weight gracefully until I fell off the proper eating habits bandwagon), but Bar Method has kept me looking great despite. I'm 35 years old and have renewed hope for changing my body now that I know about the Bar Method and other videos of the like. Thanks, Burr, for coming out with these videos and opening my eyes to these truly effective exercises!

Leisa Hart: Sexy Legs Ballet Dance Workout (2007) Review

Leisa Hart: Sexy Legs Ballet Dance Workout (2007)

I reallllly don't like this one. I didn't care for the instructor, and I really don't think she should be instructing ballet. It's very, very, very obvious that she isn't a dancer. I also found the set and the costumes annoying. I own a LOT of fitness dvds; a lot of those are ballet toning or dance aerobics. I have to say, there are MUCH better ones available. (And, btw, this is the only negative review I've posted, I wouldn't be posting one now if I didn't realllllly dislike this one.)

House of 9 Review

House of 9
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was pleasantly surprised by House of 9. As the movie begins, I saw the premise unfold and thought... what a great idea... sort of SAW 2 meets BATTLE ROYALE meets SURVIVOR.
Although more of a ripoff of SAW 2 (or maybe SAW 2 was a ripoff of House of 9? Not sure, maybe it was unintentional), HOUSE of 9 approaches the subject with fresh ideas and MORE REALISM. Where Saw 2 struggles to be commercial and come up with BIZARRE and MORE BIZARRE ways to kill people with the funky contraptions and riddles, HOUSE of 9 keeps it real.
As 9 unwitting people are snatched off the streets and wake up in a house that is sealed and unescapable, they are told that one person will be allowed to leave the house, and that person will be given $5 million... that one person is the soul survivor... meaning... the only way out... is for them to kill each other.
Where Saw 2 wastes no time getting into the depravity and murder and the thin assumption that a bunch of criminals will want to murder the son of the man who put them in prison, HOUSE of 9 keeps it real. It explores human nature and the unwillingness to comply and wait it out. How long would it take for a house full of strangers to actually want to kill each other? And how? there is one gun, with few bullets.
The mostly unknown cast, with the exception of Dennis Hopper and Kelly Brook, deliver well. As time goes by, the food is minimal, the personalities are clashing and tensions are building. Violence is coming and you can feel it, despite the members of the house's relucatance to participate in the sick game.
Unfortuntaley, the director relied to heavily on a couple of MTV montage moments that seemed to go on forever, the movie is actually a really good comment on human nature, madness, survival and what happens to a person when they've taken the life of another.
I'll admit... 4 stars... may, just may be a little too strong, and 5 stars is WAY TOO STRONG... but the movie was entertaining and better than most of the little straight to video movies that hit the video store shelves. I never once wished I was watching something else. I wanted to watch it unfold and see what was in store.
Not to mention, the ENDING was FANTASTIC! The ending... the final scene when the winner picks up their money... was the best part of the movie.
Rent it, watch it, I only recommend to buy if you're a big Kelly Brook fan. And who isn't?

LEGWORK How to Walk in High Heels / The Secret to Sexy High Heel Walking (2009) Review

LEGWORK How to Walk in High Heels / The Secret to Sexy High Heel Walking (2009)

I thought this was an excellent idea for an exercise DVD. I love high heels but am chronically tripping and stumbling in them.
This DVD offered some good tips the best way to walk to maximize comfort, it also had some good exercises.
Overall, after a few weeks of doing this, I don't feel like I am any better at walking.
Also take notice, that it is a very short DVD, and does not have a variety of special features.
I don't feel like I got very much for my money.

The Nanny - The Complete Third Season Review

The Nanny - The Complete Third Season
Average Reviews:

We have only been waiting a few years, so it is about time for this third season to come out. I hope that good sales will support a decision to release the rest, soon. This is one of the best series ever to grace our screens, so I can't wait to receive this third (and one of the best) season in 2009. A reminder of the episodes we can expect to see: Fran meets her penpal Lenny at the Russian Tea Room, Fran and Val throw a singles party at the Sheffield residence, Maggie's sweet 16 party at Lainie Kazan's bar, a visit by mum Mrs Sheffield, a visit to the Kibbutz (and a 16 year old Fran), both of Fran's Grandmas, a fake marriage proposal to Fran from a Frenchie and also a memorable guest appearance by Eartha Kidd - I can't wait... and thank you Sony for finally giving in and releasing this third season. Please don't stop now!!!

TotalMix - The Complete Total Body Workout System Review

TotalMix - The Complete Total Body Workout System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I switched to the Quick Fix Total Mix workout DVD after having a disappointing affair with the NYC Ballet Workout DVD. Quick Fix offers a lot more: faster, more vibrant exercises that get your heart rate and motivation moving, clearer descriptions of the exercises and what each individual exercise will do for your body from the instructors, and the option to create your own customized workout that will fit your particular needs and schedule demands.
The three sections - abs, buns, and arms/legs offer three different workout routines each, and each routine is only 10 minutes long. There is even a small clock at the bottom of your screen so you can see where you're at in the workout. Very helpful and motivating.
The instructors can be a tad annoying at times ("okay, you're doing great!"), but when I'm really focused on the exercise, it doesn't bother me as much. The abs instructor is particularly good at verbally walking you through an exercise in full detail before flinging you into something that might be too complex for you to try with minimal instruction. The instructors also stress safety during the routines by using chairs to keep your balance and showing how to safely do exercises with weights so your back doesn't get strained. You'll need a pair of 3 to 8 pound dumbbells for the arms and arms/legs combo routines and a kitchen chair to help you through some of the buns routines.
After the first 30 minute workout, my thighs ached in that nice I've-just-done-something-good-for-my-body way. An hour workout, however, offered a bit more of a muscular aching that bordered on too much, so remember to pace yourself. The exercises seem really simple, but at the end of the day, you really feel it.
One of the legs/arms combo routines is a bit much for me at this point in my journey to a healthier body. It's a little too challenging because it involves squats and hammer curls simultaneously, along with other leg and arm combos, and I haven't built up the strength or stamina yet to make it through that one without having to pause, but I've found a very complementary trio of exercises that seem custom-created for me, and before I know it, the workout is over, I've worked up a good, healthy sweat, and I'm ready to hit the shower.
Highly recommended for those who are pressed for time but want to get the most out of short spurts of exercise. I recommend doing it daily...even if it's only ten minutes worth of abs exercises. Perhaps we won't all have the "six pack abs" that the instructors have at the end of the day, but the calories you burn and the isolated exercises that work particular muscle groups really offer a nice wake-up call to your day.
My only criticisms would be the custom workout option only offers up to three variations of exercise routines. Some days I'd like a more rigorous and lengthier workout, and you have to pause at the end of the first completed 30 minutes and choose which exercise routines you want for your additional 10, 20, or 30 minutes, which can be a motivation killer. Other than that and the flaunting of Minna's tanned jugs as she leads you in arm curls, it's a great workout, and each day I look forward to the challenges it offers.
