The Bedroom Workout for Men: Better Sex through Exercise Review

The Bedroom Workout for Men: Better Sex through Exercise
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I finally found something to motivate me to get into shape for a very worthy (and needed) cause - my love life! Although I used to work out regularly in my younger days, I have become a couch potato of sorts over the years, as stress from my job, together with other commitments have allowed me to ignore my deteriorating physical state. I have tried other workout videos, programs, and gadgets, but they all became dust collectors in short time. Since buying The Bedroom Workout, I have been using it diligently, am beginning to feel some results, and my motivation to do this is actually growing. Getting this DVD is the best move I have made for myself in years, and the motivation it provides because it directly improves my love life (what's more important?), is only the beginning of the praise I have for this DVD.
This is one serious DVD. It is well thought out by a certified fitness expert who covers all the important and necessary body parts involved in enhancing stamina, endurance, mobility, and overall fitness crucial to improving intimacy. I'm no expert on fitness by any means, but the exercises covered by the DVD, although more focused, seem to cover an overall fitness routine similar to those I used to do when I was working out years ago for no other reason than to be fit, feel good, and look good (to attract women , in all honesty). The best part is that these routines are presented in a way that is not intimidating, even for a novice. The purpose and goal of each routine is clearly described, the muscle groups affected are well and clearly illustrated, and the description of how and why each muscle group is important to intimacy are made clear.
All of these routines make sense, even though I never would have made some of the connections between certain muscle groups and sexual performance on my own. Some of the exercises presented are routines I used to do years ago and I was surprised that even for those that were familiar, I ended up learning something new, about the importance of form for safety and effectiveness, for example. Each routine was proceeded with a clear verbal explanation of what it accomplishes and why it helps performance. The moving diagrams, visual demonstrations, and the sound effects to help with timing of the movements involved in each routine were like a multi-sensory experience which gave the DVD more clarity and excitement.
It works! Best of all, I don't have to hide the DVD under my mattress because although it successfully aims to enhance sexuality, it is never prurient. Given the topic or aim of the DVD, I would think that it would be easy to succumb to salacious presentation. Instead this is a focused and serious program with a goal I aspire to. My own need and desire to improve my love life has inspired me to buy this DVD and has kept me motivated to actually use it, but the DVD itself is so well done that I am actually accomplishing something for my love life, and I suspect for my health overall. I recommend the use of the Bedroom Workout for anyone, regardless of your goal.

Caribbean Workout: Aerobics (2005) Review

Caribbean Workout: Aerobics (2005)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I picked this DVD up at a local Ross store for $6.99. It came with the Kickboxing DVD. For the price, it was a great buy. Each DVD has four 20 minute workouts. The Aerobics DVD has two low impact and two high impact workouts. They include athletic (rather than dancy) moves that are easy to learn. There is some repetition and overlap (the workouts have some similar moves) but it doesn't get tiresome. The moves can be easily modified to make them higher or lower impact.
The music is club-ish, I've heard it in Karen Voight and CIA workouts. The scenery is gorgeous, and Shelly has a natural, easy manner, as do her background exercisers. This DVD would be good for someone looking for short workouts, and would be considered intermediate, though I think you could make it easier or harder if you wanted. There are cuts where the commercials would be, but when they "return," the exercisers are still doing the same moves so the cuts aren't too bad.
My only complaint is that this DVD isn't chaptered, so if you decide to do two of the workouts, you end up doing two warm-ups and cool downs. You can fast-forward through them though.

Jillian Michaels - The Ultimate Workout 3 Pack (Cardio Kickbox / Jillian Michaels for Beginners: Frontside / Jillian Michaels for Beginners: Backside) Review

Jillian Michaels - The Ultimate Workout 3 Pack (Cardio Kickbox / Jillian Michaels for Beginners: Frontside / Jillian Michaels for Beginners: Backside)
Average Reviews:

This set of workout videos are great for beginners because the movements are not over the top, there isn't a bunch of jumping and crazy moves and you most definitely sweat, even if you are in pretty good shape. My only complaint is that the tapes are a little long. The backside is 54 minutes and unless you are motivated, you can get tired and give up too quickly. The cardio kickboxing is about 25 minutes and just the right length. Frontside is good at 42 minutes but once I learned the routines and didn't have to wait for instruction between moves, I can do the circuits in about 30 minutes. I would recommend it for those who are serious and more than casual exercisers.

Tom Holland's Total Ab Workout Review

Tom Holland's Total Ab Workout
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In Total Ab Workout, fitness instructor and physiologist Tom Holland has created four abs routines, each about six minutes in length. Each routine is progressively more difficult, culiminating with the final routine, which adds a dumbbell to increase the challenge. Tom filmed the workout in "real time," meaning that there are no cuts or edits; it's just a smooth, one-on-one abs workout with Tom. In additional to traditional crunches, the routines offer Pilates-like moves as well as back stabilization work to balance out the core.
The DVD Main Menu offers the option to play the entire workout or go to the Routines Menu, which breaks down each of the four routines into 6-7 segments (you need to actuallly click on the first segment to select the routine). The exercises listed on the Routines Menu are as follows:
Routine 1: arm slide crunches/alternate bent knee pulls/crossed leg obliques/plank/four-point bridge/bicycle
Routine 2: bent knee pulls/bent knee oblique lifts/bridge with lift and hold/crunches with legs up/crossed leg raised foot obliques/plank with raised leg
Routine 3: straight leg lowers/corkscrews/bridges with leg pulses/double crunches/the rope climb/two-point bridge
Routine 4: double roll ups/double oblique twists/bridge with leg holds/double butterflies/double press ups/plank
I liked the fourth routine the best, partly because it felt the most Pilates-like and partly because I liked how Tom worked in the use of the dumbbell; on the other hand, the third workout actually felt more challenging to me. Tom does not show modifications for any of the moves, and thus I think these workouts are best suited for experienced beginner to intermediate exercisers. Overall, a very nice series of ab routines that would be great for add-on work.

HIP HOP ABS DANCE PARTY - Rockin' Abs & Hard Body Workouts - Includes 5 Minute Ab Blaster - Shaun T (2007) Review

HIP HOP ABS DANCE PARTY - Rockin' Abs and Hard Body Workouts - Includes 5 Minute Ab Blaster - Shaun T (2007)

Ok,
So I loved these workouts since I've gotten them. I had the first Hip Hop Abs series you see on television. The deal for those was just so sweet and I figured why not try it. :)
I loved that first series!! So I was super hopeful for this one.
When you first start working out and stuff with the videos, unless you've taken dance classes, you may feel like a bit of a doof trying to do these pretty cool moves, but eventually (like 2 workouts) you'll feel good and can do them fine. You totally feel like you're there and Shaun T is just super funny.
Ok. ok.. so about this workout.
The First workout I did was Rockin' Abs. Let me tell you the difference between the first set of DVDs and the Dance Party series is significant. The moves are almost all new and it starts out fast. If you have the foundation of the first videos you'll be fine though. The music is really good too. I didn't recognize any of the songs from the radio, but I enjoyed them.
The workout itself is challenging. You do some floor work, but one of the hardest exercises was when you do a push up and at the same time you extend your leg out to the side and you do it on tempo (those who do these DVDs know what that means). For those who don't want to do that move, like me on the first try, Tonya does a simplified move for us.
The workout is great and you can totally feel the ab workout. The floor routine isn't that hard, but you do get a nice stretch. All and all a great workout.
Then there's the Hardbody workout. It's 100% delicious!
Great music, great moves, high energy and you'll be smiling through most of it, while you're able to learn new moves. I loved this workout!!! It worked out the upper body and the lower body, but I'd say it's more of an upper body (arms and abs than lower body). You totally get your cardio in and you will probably sweat.
I really, really loved this video a lot. Like the other video (don't think I mentioned it) but you can use your weighted gloves or the weights. I'd wait to use both until you know the moves (if you think that's not heavy enough.
Hope this helped!

I don't mind that it's just 15 minutes of actual workout, but what I do mind is that the 45 minute chains the workout 3 times back to back so you get to warm up, stretch, workout, cool down and then do it all again 2 more times to get a 45 minute workout.
Not cool. DVD editing is mature enough that the 45 minute workout should have had one warmup and one cooldown and the rest in between the workout.

Shaun T's Rockin' Body - Disco Groove Set - Includes 4 Workouts - by Beachbody (2008)

Always set on stage w/lights & audience
Mark, Move & Groove - 15 min
6 dance moves, mostly marches, shimmy, hand movements w/standing crunch, 2 taps out, grapevine, 2 steps & cha cha, all dance, a quick & easy workout. Only bad thing is an annoying LOUD BEEP to let you know when to start the move after Shaun teaches it. Drove me NUTS.
Disco Groove - 35 min
This is pure dance that really works the obliques, even tough I don't normally like disco, they really made this a lot of fun.
Party Express - 25 min
Mostly dance w/some regular hopping & running in place.
Shaun T's Dance Party - 43 min
This is mostly dance as well w/a bit more regular hopping & hand jives, though has a great cool down. I didn't like this one as much for some reason.
As always, he breaks down every move so you are first just stepping side to side, then adds more, then the upper body, then the style, Always easy to follow & he always has fun & demands you have fun too & not dance half-heartedly. I love how he has fun, though sometimes he talks to the camera too long when you're doing step touches before learning a new move or after finishing a "routine," though maybe those few seconds are for grabbing some water.
I would love for him to do a straight dance workout that incorporates more complicated dance moves.

HIP HOP ABS by Shaun T - Maximum Results Set - Level 2 - Fat Burning Cardio, Ab Sculpt, Total Body Burn (2007) Review

HIP HOP ABS by Shaun T - Maximum Results Set - Level 2 - Fat Burning Cardio, Ab Sculpt, Total Body Burn (2007)
Average Reviews:

Sean T. is very friendly, personable, confident, jokes around, is truly into dancing & wants to share it. He can be compared to Will Smith's personality. He's relaxed & actually talented & fluid when he dances. He really does everything slowly at first before going to temp & breaks most of the moves down. The workout portion he does all at once, no stopping/starting like most high end fitness videos & he talks with the dancers. He uses the same backup dancers for all the workouts & other portions. When he remarks on a song, you know he hears what you hear so they are on beat. He never let's you stop moving on these workouts, you can only go down to step touches w/standing ab crunches. Each section you can decide if you want the music much louder drowning out Shawn's or hear his voice w/music like most workouts. The production quality in everything is great, lighting, camera angles, editing, sound quality, etc. except the music which I listed below.
Disk 1
FAT BURNING CARDIO - 43 min
This may have looped dance beat music, but I LOVE this workout. Why? It's 80% real dance moves! Hip Hop ab flexing, dip, stomping, frat step, dip side/side, double dutch, kick/knee, washing machine, etc. He even repeats some moves in a routine to keep you going. The only non dance moves were a little jumping jacks though he tries to add a little flava to it, hoping (though more side to side like hip hop) & simulated jump rope. THIS is how ALL his workouts should be.
AB SCULPT 2 - 32 min
The music is looped back beats, but not too bad, better then most fitness dvds. But very disappointed since they said real music in the tv ads. Most of this aerobics section is using weights or weighted gloves. There were about 5 real dance moves, the rest aerobics with a lot of emphasis on standing ab crunch types, knee lifts & kicks. This portion I'll admit made me sweat, though, as I've said, I don't like aerobics & was hoping for more dance moves like the tv advertisement. Mat Work (10 min) Easy plank on knees w/arm raises, then normal plank with 1 knee to chest, then 1 arm raised. Those were nice & challenging. The rest is easy, just sitting with feet on the ground & twists or arm raises weights. Ends with child's pose, sitting fwd bend, cobra, reclined kneed to chest spinal twist.
Disk 2
TOTAL BODY BURN - 45 min
Ok, after viewing now 7 of his cardio/toning workouts within a month (not counting the dance floor ones), I can definitely see a lot of repetition. Like the level 1 total body burn, this has a lot of free weight use, much more jumping jacks & simulated jump roping then all the others, plie/jump up in air, think some kicking & punching. I have to admit by now I was getting bored with seeing the same moves & FFWd a lot. There were a couple dance moves, but most were all done on his other dvds & like said, almost all done on Fat burning Cardio 2. The only new move that had was doing the butterfly with both arms & both legs at the same time with weights. That is a fun, old school move. Mat Work (10 min) the first 4 min are more dance step moves, one hard of touching you hand to ground & back up again. Suddenly you drop into push ups 8x, step touches in between, push ups, step touches, that ab "c" of sitting on your butt with knees bent & turning torso ( I find easy & do yoga boat pose instead).
Learn To Dance "Get abs or die trying" - 21 min
Club looking place w/lights & a dance floor (like the commercial), Shawn w/3 female & 1 male dancer showing a pretty stylish dance routine they teach you. He shows you the routine normal speed, then teaches the lower body 3-4x 1/3 speed, adds the upper body 3-4x 1/3 speed, then both at 1/3 speed 3-4x, then normal speed 3-4x. He doesn't count much at all, he gives you body cues of what to move & direction. When connecting the previous learned moves to the present moves, he will go slow 2x to help you connect them together. This is the best way to teach & I'm very happy he's teaching it that way. At the end, you only do it 4x in a row w/o stopping.
I tried to do this & I was completely lost even on the first set of about 5 moves (he taught about 5 moves in the level 1 as well but since beginner's were familiar I didn't have much of a problem). I wish he would only teach 1-2 moves depending on complexity about 2-3x 1/2 speed & 5x normal speed before moving. For moves such as these, it's needed. I will try this again sometime in the future.
Like I said in the Total Body burn, a lot of repetition & too much aerobics & not enough dance moves. All I want is dance moves that are repeated several times before moving on to keep the heart rate up. That's dance aerobics (though most unfortunately are watered down). Dance instruction is teach 1-2x 1/2 speed & normal speed 1-2x which I don't like. Not sure how long "Hip Hop Dance Party" has been out, but his "Rockin' Body" just came out this month & I hope they have that, but I'll wait for reviews before trying. If you're a beginner & can't stand not being able to keep up even though there's a modifier model, get the level 1. If you're a beginner & don't frustrate easy & want to save $, only get this. Intermediate & Advance, only get Level 2.
If you don't know what Hip Hop Abs looks/dounds like check clips on youtube or do a search on google videos, etc.

The Complete At-Home Workout Review

The Complete At-Home Workout
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was waiting for there to be a complete workout dvd that delivers weight training, stretching, abs and cardio, and these dvd's do just that. For only $[...] you get close to 5 hours of workouts seperated on 5 discs. (There are 10 workouts in all)
Disc 1: Personal Training 1 and 2
Disc 2: Yoga 1 & 2
Disc 3: ABS Butt and thighs 1 & 2
Disc 4: Pilates 1 & 2
Disc 5: Cardio and Kickboxing
Setting: These all take place in a gym, so there aren't any beautiful oceans in the background, or some fancy studio...it's pretty simple.
Instructors: There is a different instructor for each workout, (except for pilates 1 & 2- the same person instructs both of those)and they act very normal when working out. They aren't all smiles and inspiration speeches, they pretty much just do their job- cue you decently-and that's it.
Production: The production quality is not excellent, but for the price of this collection and what you get from it, it's a pretty good deal. If you are the type of person that needs your workout dvd's to be filmed with the best equipment possible and need your instructors to be dressed in designer exercise apparel, then I don't recommend these dvd's to you.
Beginners to advanced could use these dvd's because there is a good variety of workouts in this collection ranging from easy to difficult. When I pop in one of these dvd's I feel like I am taking personalized classes at the YMCA. I recommend this set because it is an excellent buy and will satisfy all your fitness needs. Enjoy! :)

Stephanie Vitorino: The Ultimate Body Shaper Review

Stephanie Vitorino: The Ultimate Body Shaper
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Ultimate Body Shaper is recommended for young, already fit women who want to work hard. This is definitely NOT the ideal video for beginners, seniors, seriously overweight people or anyone who doesn't enjoy a high intensity workout. Easier, alternate moves are not provided, so you either have to keep up, stop, or figure it out on your own. I'm a very fit aging babyboomer, and I found both the step and mat workouts to be very challenging. Because of this, half the time my eye was on the timer and my mind was wondering how much more I had to do/endure. Afterwards, however, I absolutely loved how I felt. All that delicious muscle soreness let me know I actually spent my time productively. And I was proud of myself for doing the required work and getting through it.
The best and most exciting feature of The Ultimate Body Shaper is Vitorino's use of methods and moves you won't find elsewhere. Vitorino relies heavily on cardio burst intervals, multi-pattern moves, and balance. Also, don't count on resting on your mat too much since most of the exercises are done from a standing position. The video has a warm-up, a cool-down, a mat/floor workout and a high step workout. For equipment, you'll need two sets of dumbbells (light and heavier) a step and a mat.
Vitorino is pleasant enough to look at and easy enough to follow, but her personality is little on the bland side. Likewise, the background music is utterly forgettable and does not inspire your heart to get into the action. That said, The Ultimate Body Shaper delivers on the promise of a safe, effective intermediate to advanced level workout and is worth the investment.

Stephanie offers two complete 30 minute workouts on one DVD, plus full warm-up and cool-down options. The first workout is the V Body High Step Workout and is an incredible blend of aerobics/toning intervals for maximum benefit. The second segment is V Body Mat Workout, but don't let the name fool you -- you will not be leisurely resting on your mat for gentle pulses or other ballet/pilates type moves. Not here! Instead, Stephanie uses the mat for standing work, actively engaging the core in the ultimate balance challenge (balance with weight work). Cardio blasts are included in each workout for maximum fat-burning results.About the instructor: Stephanie Vitorino is one of LA's most sought-after fitness trainers. She's a nationally certified fitness trainer with AFAA and ACE with over 12 years of coaching experience in exercise physiology. With a positive approach to fitness she inspires her students to take control of their lives through a focused commitment toward better health. Known for her passion and intensity, Stephanie brings a spark of originality to her dynamic classes and Vbody fitness DVDs. "I've struggled with my own weight and know what it takes to gain control. I like this DVD. It has a warm up, 3 lower body work outs, 4 upper body work outs. Blast on ball work out, and cool down stretch. The work outs are 6 minutes long and you can pick and choose your work outs. You'll want to get the stability ball that's suitable for you. And a set of 3 and 5 pound weights. And you'll need a mat. I'd get the ball and the weights after I buy the DVD. It's challenging, but it can be fun.

Pilates for Pink Workout (2008) Review

Pilates for Pink Workout (2008)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Pilates for Pink workout has sections for upper body, lower body, and abs. There are separate workout options available on the DVD menu, or you can do them all together for a 50 minute workout. There is a pink exercise band included with the workout.
Overall, I'm glad I bought it. The exercises combine traditional pilates matwork (hundreds, single leg stretch etc) with exercises that take advantage of the band and are meant to simulate reformer or other machine exercises. I didn't feel over tired afterward, but i did feel like I got good toning in. And even though it's 50 minutes or so and not terribly fast-paced, I didn't feel bored. The arm exercises were fun, but I won't know how effective they are until I've done the workout more. Overall, it's a good recommendation if you are just starting out, or if you have another pilates DVD or two and want some variety, but if you have other stuff from Winsor, I don't know how repetitive this one would be. It reminded me of the 10 minute solution slim and sculpt pilates, which also uses the band. So if you like one, you'll like the other.
They give $1 to Breast Cancer for each purchase, so this would make a thoughtful purchase or gift anyway. If some of the money didn't go to cancer, I'm not sure I'd be willing to pay full price for it.

Crunch - Super SlimDown: Pilates Yoga Blend Review

Crunch - Super SlimDown: Pilates Yoga Blend
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was pleasantly surprised with this workout, it is invigorating and relaxing but you will feel it working too. Ellen Barrett, who is known for her Crunch and more recently Self magazine workouts is back in what I feel is her best workout ever. Ellen is joined by 7 other ladies including Marni who shows some beginner modifications.
This 40 minute workout begins with some power breathing and standing backbends before moving into the first yoga series. You will move into warrior 2 and pulse while in that position, therefore called the "warrior pulse", then you will move into side angle pose, then reverse warrior, and sweep your arms around and down to the center for some power breaths up before repeating on the other side. This series is repeated a few more times, but with less warrior pulses. More power breathing finishes this series.
The next series is somewhat similar, but you will begin in triangle pose this time. Once in triangle, you will move back to warrior 2 but twist to the front and raise the arms up, hold them before lowering and twisting back to the front. This is repeated several times on the same side before doing on the other side. Next is the zigzag, Ellen's favorite move which targets the core. You will face front and extended your arms from side to side then scoop down and do the same thing. Then you will repeat the triangle series on each side again followed by the zigzag once more. Then you will move to triangle once more before moving to plank pose then do some knee cross crunches. Then you will stretch out first in downward facing dog, then childs pose.
The next series is the willow series which is much harder than it looks. You will begin in childs pose, then lift up your torso up while trying not to lift your rear from your heels. I need to work on this one. You repeat this several times before moving to the dolphin float (elbow plank). The willow/dolphin series is then repeated several more times. Then you will do a variation of extended cat pose, you extend one arm and the opposite leg, and lift and lower each one, then you will extend them out to the side slightly and do the same, then you will alternate front and side. This is then repeated on the opposite arm/leg before stretching out in childs pose.
The next series starts on your front, you will first do leg beats, then a back extension, then a little piece of heaven which is a pushup on the knees, hinging back, then returning to start which your elbows are held inward. This really targets the triceps and I was definitely feeling it after a while. This series is repeated several times before finishing out with pilates leg circles. Then you will lie on your side for some more leg work. You will lift the bottom leg off the floor, then lift and lower the top leg, then you will lift and lower the bottom leg. The option of taking the supporting arm is there to make it tougher, side passe alternating the leg to the front and back follows. Then you will do the side bend twist, then the knee drop progression. Here you are propped up on your elbows and you will drop knees to each side while extending the top leg, then you have the option of straightening both legs while lowering to each side. Then you do a brief stretch before repeating the lying side leg series and side bend twist on the other side and do some more knee drops.
To finish out the workout, you will do some ab work. You will roll down and up halfway before going into modified teasers, then you will roll halfways down again while pulling the elbows together. Then you will move into the single leg stretch, some more oblique work where you drop your knees to each side and climb an imaginary rope and finally the ballerina criss cross. Then you will do some brief stretching and breathing.
While I am extremely active and aim to do weights, cardio, yoga and pilates each 3 times weekly, I do have to force it somedays. This is one workout that I truly look forward to doing. It is exhilarating and I feel great afterwards. It isn't hard, some experienced in yoga/pilates might feel it is way too easy but it is perfect for me and I have a blast doing it. This is Ellen at her best, she does an excellent job leading this workout. 5+ stars for this one.

Results Fitness: 10 Days to a Better Body (2008) Review

Results Fitness: 10 Days to a Better Body (2008)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
...and I have over 100 excercise dvds now... Some women buy shoes...I keep myself motivated by trying new dvds...
so I have some comparison. :-)
CALORIE BURN: I wear a bodybugg to measure my daily calorie burn. Because of this, I'm also able to monitor exactly how many calories I burn during a dvd workout, and know exactly how many calories it burns per minute. Because a strength training dvd will also continue to burn more calories after the workout, I can also monitor the increase if there is one. I say this only so you'll know what I rate is based upon scientific measurement rather than perceived exertion. DANG! If you had to only own two dvds to make a difference in your body I'd choose this one and Jillian Michael's Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism to scorch the calories. The calorie burn was EXTREMELY boosted in this dvd.
CIRCUIT TRAINING: Studies have shown you'll actually burn more calories doing a circuit workout...meaning that you combine both cardio and strength training. Cardio will burn more calories during the workout, but strength training, although it burns less during the workout, will continue to burn calories long after the workout is over and will help build muscle--which also increases metabolism and utilizes more calories even while you are at rest. This dvd takes it to the highest level by doing heavy cardio and then allowing your heart rate to recover during strength, and then getting it back up again. Just like a car uses more gas when alternating slow and fast speeds rather than going fast all the time, it's been shown your body uses more calories doing the same thing. And keeping your heart rate elevated during strength provides that higher calorie burning benefit with toning which continues to burn more later. Very well done.
CUEING: I'm very picky about cueing. I want a workout rather than having to rewind my dvd and figure out what the instructor is trying to tell me what to do in a heavily choreographed but difficult-to-follow routine. There was no rewinding on this one. The steps and instructions were clear and it kept you moving fast without losing a step. A difficult thing to get right, but it was accomplished here.
SET: Boring. One of those studios made to look like a set...but that's fairly common in many dvds. No big thing. But nothing to make note of either.
MOVES: Impressive. Although the workout is combined into two circuit training sections of 30 minutes each (the first one works your legs, tush, and belly and the second your entire upper body and abs), you can combine the two if desired. I like that she added standing ab moves in that you are working your obliques (stomach muscles) while MOVING rather than on the floor so you get the cardio benefit as well. There were also some kickboxing moves which help speed up the calorie burn. Well thought out but nothing difficult to do or follow.
LEVEL: While the calorie burn is intense, a beginner could start here with very light weights and be able to do it at his or her pace and progress with heavier weights. Because you recover during the strength moves you won't wear out during the cardio. Too, a fitness buff will love it for the results.
TRAINER: There is only one, there are no backup people behind her as you'll see in many dvds. This means there is no "beginner level" person in the back if you are just starting out and want a lower impact trainer to follow until you progress upwards, but I think you can pull through even if you need to do less reps or slower movements. Both are possible. Her energy is good and her instructions are clear. I actually prefer to have more people behind the trainer simply for visual interest when staring at the same dvd for a half hour but no big deal.
SAFETY: The instructions are excellent so that you not only do the moves easily, but you do them so they are safe and effective. Out of all the dvds I have no instructor has ever told me to stare at a certain spot on the floor during balance moves in order to help you not wobble. I had previously done balance poorly and was wobbling again until she said this. BAM! For the first time, I mastered all balance moves in this dvd and my others. (Don't worry if you hate balance moves like me, there are few and you could do them with your foot on the floor til mastered, but it does help your core so I keep working at it.)
TIME CRUNCH: There are "10 Minute Solutions" dvds which are supposed to be used if you only have time to do a 10 minute workout. This burned twice as many calories in 10 minutes as those...so if you have a crunch on time, you might just use part of one of these workouts and do a cooldown on your own.
MUSIC: Upbeat and flowed with the moves.
EQUIPMENT: Although she recommends light and heavy weights, you can use the same weight the whole time if that's all you have...for example, sometimes I just use my 6 pound weights the whole time and if the reps get to hard to do I put em down and do the moves without em. If you have a light and heavy set, you are good to go, but will not be hindered if you do not.
ALSO INCLUDED: Inside the dvd case there is a booklet called "The better body meal plan" which is a 1200-1300 calorie per day diet by a nutritionist that also notes men need to add an additional 300-400 clories to the menu per day. It is 10 days of menus you can follow to lose weight with items that are easy to prepare and take a couple to just a few minutes of prep time, such as a chicken breast with salsa, brown rice, & broccoli for lunch, apple with peanut butter for a snack etc. As a weight loss coach myself I'd say it's a decent and protein and nutrient rich diet so, although I don't use her diet, I have no doubt it would work based upon its components ifyou want to take her challenge of a better body in 10 days.
NEGATIVES: As far as the workout and instruction goes, it was flawless and incredibly well thought-out for effectiveness and calorie burn. But I gotta say, one of the reasons I have so many dvds is because I hate being bored in working out. I think there were some additions they could have added to this dvd to make it less "sterile", like a class or back up trainers in the background, a less sterile set, etc but that's just if I had to add something...that's merely my own personal taste as someone else may find what I like "distracting".
CONCLUSION: This is one of my new favorites for when I need fast results. I'd suggest it as an addition to a fitness dvd collection no matter how large or small you want your dvd collection to be...it's a true result-maker.

Get Ripped with Jari Love Review

Get Ripped with Jari Love
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the only video that I have by Jari Love, but it's a great one. Ripped is an hi-rep lighter weight endurance workout that runs just under and hour. It is quite similar to the Bodypump workout or classes, which I personally have never seen but have heard they are alike. Jari is exercising along with 3 other exercisers which she refers to as the "Rippers". You will need weights, dumbells and/or barbell, a step or a bench you will need for some of the seated exercises (they use the bench for the lying exercises but I just lie on the floor), a mat if you don't have carpet and Jari also recommends a heart rate monitor. The setting is a bit dark and somewhat plain but didn't bother me. The music is decent, techno would be the best way to describe it.
The warmup I found a little odd, not really your typical warm up, you just grab some weights and go from the start. You do some shoulder rolls while holding a barbell or weights, and then you will so some deadlifts, rows, deadrows, bicep curls, overhead presses and squats. These are all moves you will see in the workout but the weight should be much lighter than what you would normally use.
Then it's on to the workout, Jari tells you what exercise is coming so you can prepare. They also display each exercisers "personal weight load" which I really liked, it gives you an idea of what weights to use which I found very helpful. You start out with squats, a pretty long set with varied counts, 4-4, 3-1. 2-2 and single count. After these you will do a brief set of plie squats before finishing out with another brief set of traditional squats. Chest work is next you will do a short set of pushups, followed by bench presses again with varied counts. Next are pullovers where just one dumbell is used, I usually think these are pretty easy especially in a workout like this where lighter weight is encouraged. My arms were on fire! Pullovers also target the triceps and that is where I really felt this one. Following pullovers is lying triceps extensions to fry the triceps a little more, then you will move into a close grip bench presses that also work the triceps. Towards the end of this set Jari will combine the two exercises.
Floor leg work is next, inner thighs are worked first with leg lifts, then you will work the outer thighs with more leg lifts, then knee ins with some pulses. Ankle weights can be used here or a dumbell for a little extra challenge. Then you will move onto deadlifts and rows. You will start with deadlifts, then rows, then you will combine the two for a deadrow where you will bend at the hips then row. Next are lunges, where you will step back and then lunge down and return to standing. I modified this one just a bit by doing a static lunge in a 2-2 count which I liked better and I will still on pace with Jari and friends.
You will finish out with biceps, shoulders and abs. The biceps and shoulders are two of the toughest sets in the workout. The biceps are done in varied counts and is a pretty long set. The shoulders consist of 4 sets total, you will do 2 sets of side lateral raises, then 2 sets of front raises. The ab work is pretty easy and short, you will do 3 exercises, reverse crunches, traditional crunches and oblique twists. Then it's on to the cooldown and stretch. There is also stretching in between most of the exercises so the final stretch isn't too long.
Overall I really liked this workout and give it 4 and a half stars. Jari is a very pleasant instructor and I liked her style, I would definitely buy more workouts from her. The DVD has a few extras, a testimonials section where people talk about why the love the Ripped program, and a techniques and modification section where Krista (one of the Rippers) shows how you can personalize the workout to your needs. I would rate this workout as intermediate, but it is suitable for all levels. I would advise viewing the video before doing so you can familiarize yourself with the different rep counts and tempos as most of the exercises have them. For those who like hi-rep endurance workouts, this one is a great choice. Well done Jari!

Leslie Sansone - Walk the Walk 3-DVD Set (Miracle Mile / Two Mile Walk / Weight Loss Walk 4 Miles) Review

Leslie Sansone - Walk the Walk 3-DVD Set (Miracle Mile / Two Mile Walk / Weight Loss Walk 4 Miles)

My sister recomended these DVDs to me a few months ago. She has four kids currently-all in the space of just under six years. When I saw her last, she had lost SIXTY pounds just doing these DVDs a couple of times a week. I just had my second child, and after a dibilitating car accident, well needless to say, I need to loose a lot of weight. So I decided to try these DVDs. I have had them a little over a week and have done both the one mile and the two mile-infact I just finished the two mile a few minutes ago. They are great! They are very low impact-I have bad knees from the car accident, and a plate in my left arm, also from the accident, and I can do the two mile without any pain in my knees, and I can do push ups which I haven't done in almost four years! They are fun and easy, and I can tell already that I am loosing weight. It only takes a half hour to do the two mile, which I can still do with two kids. I also like this because I am so much overweight, I can do this in the comfort of my own living room, without the uncomfortable stares of other people at the gym or the track. Also, you can move around up and back, side to side, but you don't have to. It is very flexable. Currently I am living in a hotel room in MS while my husband is in Air Force training, and I can do it easily in my 12x9 hotel room. I highly recomend this to anyone who will listen ... So buy and enjoy!
