Richard Simmons and the Silver Foxes Review

Richard Simmons and the Silver Foxes
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First, Simmons wears a sweat suit, much better than the tank top and shorts of his other stuff. The pace isn't so fast that you can't figure out what's going on or keep up. If you haven't worked out in a while, it's a way to get moving again. It gets the pulse up but isn't so bad that you think you are going to die. Also none of this no pain no gain and feel the burn nonsense. The excerise part is about 40 minutes, including 20 of cardio. You should know (cause these things never tell you) that you should have at least 8 by 8 feet of room. You can do it in less if you take small steps. You also need a tall back chair with no sides. Although I made do with a sort of tall back office chair with arms. I was pleased that I didn't aggravate my chronic shoulder and back problems.

Tracey Mallett's 6 Minute Quick Blast Method-Total Body Fat Burner (2007) Review

Tracey Mallett's 6 Minute Quick Blast Method-Total Body Fat Burner (2007)
Average Reviews:

I like this DVD. It has a warm up, 3 lower body work outs, 4 upper body work outs. Blast on ball work out, and cool down stretch. The work outs are 6 minutes long and you can pick and choose your work outs. You'll want to get the stability ball that's suitable for you. And a set of 3 and 5 pound weights. And you'll need a mat. I'd get the ball and the weights after I buy the DVD. It's challenging, but it can be fun.

Carmen Electra's Aerobic Striptease - In the Bedroom (2007) Review

Carmen Electra's Aerobic Striptease - In the Bedroom (2007)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I own the original set, and really love them. These new ones are just not up to par. This one is especially disappointing. The moves feel like they're right out of the mid-90s, and the only full run-through of the combination with music is filmed more like a music video...complete with SLOW-MO scenes, meaning there is NO WAY to follow along with it! A total waste. And not at all a workout! NOT EVEN A WARM-UP! I love Carmen, but I doubt I'll ever use this DVD again, unless i'm trying to prove to a friend that it really is THAT bad...
Carmen Electra's Fit to Strip" I really love it, and it gives you an AWESOME workout!

Crunch - Super SlimDown: Pilates Yoga Blend Review

Crunch - Super SlimDown: Pilates Yoga Blend
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was pleasantly surprised with this workout, it is invigorating and relaxing but you will feel it working too. Ellen Barrett, who is known for her Crunch and more recently Self magazine workouts is back in what I feel is her best workout ever. Ellen is joined by 7 other ladies including Marni who shows some beginner modifications.
This 40 minute workout begins with some power breathing and standing backbends before moving into the first yoga series. You will move into warrior 2 and pulse while in that position, therefore called the "warrior pulse", then you will move into side angle pose, then reverse warrior, and sweep your arms around and down to the center for some power breaths up before repeating on the other side. This series is repeated a few more times, but with less warrior pulses. More power breathing finishes this series.
The next series is somewhat similar, but you will begin in triangle pose this time. Once in triangle, you will move back to warrior 2 but twist to the front and raise the arms up, hold them before lowering and twisting back to the front. This is repeated several times on the same side before doing on the other side. Next is the zigzag, Ellen's favorite move which targets the core. You will face front and extended your arms from side to side then scoop down and do the same thing. Then you will repeat the triangle series on each side again followed by the zigzag once more. Then you will move to triangle once more before moving to plank pose then do some knee cross crunches. Then you will stretch out first in downward facing dog, then childs pose.
The next series is the willow series which is much harder than it looks. You will begin in childs pose, then lift up your torso up while trying not to lift your rear from your heels. I need to work on this one. You repeat this several times before moving to the dolphin float (elbow plank). The willow/dolphin series is then repeated several more times. Then you will do a variation of extended cat pose, you extend one arm and the opposite leg, and lift and lower each one, then you will extend them out to the side slightly and do the same, then you will alternate front and side. This is then repeated on the opposite arm/leg before stretching out in childs pose.
The next series starts on your front, you will first do leg beats, then a back extension, then a little piece of heaven which is a pushup on the knees, hinging back, then returning to start which your elbows are held inward. This really targets the triceps and I was definitely feeling it after a while. This series is repeated several times before finishing out with pilates leg circles. Then you will lie on your side for some more leg work. You will lift the bottom leg off the floor, then lift and lower the top leg, then you will lift and lower the bottom leg. The option of taking the supporting arm is there to make it tougher, side passe alternating the leg to the front and back follows. Then you will do the side bend twist, then the knee drop progression. Here you are propped up on your elbows and you will drop knees to each side while extending the top leg, then you have the option of straightening both legs while lowering to each side. Then you do a brief stretch before repeating the lying side leg series and side bend twist on the other side and do some more knee drops.
To finish out the workout, you will do some ab work. You will roll down and up halfway before going into modified teasers, then you will roll halfways down again while pulling the elbows together. Then you will move into the single leg stretch, some more oblique work where you drop your knees to each side and climb an imaginary rope and finally the ballerina criss cross. Then you will do some brief stretching and breathing.
While I am extremely active and aim to do weights, cardio, yoga and pilates each 3 times weekly, I do have to force it somedays. This is one workout that I truly look forward to doing. It is exhilarating and I feel great afterwards. It isn't hard, some experienced in yoga/pilates might feel it is way too easy but it is perfect for me and I have a blast doing it. This is Ellen at her best, she does an excellent job leading this workout. 5+ stars for this one.

Get Ripped with Jari Love Review

Get Ripped with Jari Love
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the only video that I have by Jari Love, but it's a great one. Ripped is an hi-rep lighter weight endurance workout that runs just under and hour. It is quite similar to the Bodypump workout or classes, which I personally have never seen but have heard they are alike. Jari is exercising along with 3 other exercisers which she refers to as the "Rippers". You will need weights, dumbells and/or barbell, a step or a bench you will need for some of the seated exercises (they use the bench for the lying exercises but I just lie on the floor), a mat if you don't have carpet and Jari also recommends a heart rate monitor. The setting is a bit dark and somewhat plain but didn't bother me. The music is decent, techno would be the best way to describe it.
The warmup I found a little odd, not really your typical warm up, you just grab some weights and go from the start. You do some shoulder rolls while holding a barbell or weights, and then you will so some deadlifts, rows, deadrows, bicep curls, overhead presses and squats. These are all moves you will see in the workout but the weight should be much lighter than what you would normally use.
Then it's on to the workout, Jari tells you what exercise is coming so you can prepare. They also display each exercisers "personal weight load" which I really liked, it gives you an idea of what weights to use which I found very helpful. You start out with squats, a pretty long set with varied counts, 4-4, 3-1. 2-2 and single count. After these you will do a brief set of plie squats before finishing out with another brief set of traditional squats. Chest work is next you will do a short set of pushups, followed by bench presses again with varied counts. Next are pullovers where just one dumbell is used, I usually think these are pretty easy especially in a workout like this where lighter weight is encouraged. My arms were on fire! Pullovers also target the triceps and that is where I really felt this one. Following pullovers is lying triceps extensions to fry the triceps a little more, then you will move into a close grip bench presses that also work the triceps. Towards the end of this set Jari will combine the two exercises.
Floor leg work is next, inner thighs are worked first with leg lifts, then you will work the outer thighs with more leg lifts, then knee ins with some pulses. Ankle weights can be used here or a dumbell for a little extra challenge. Then you will move onto deadlifts and rows. You will start with deadlifts, then rows, then you will combine the two for a deadrow where you will bend at the hips then row. Next are lunges, where you will step back and then lunge down and return to standing. I modified this one just a bit by doing a static lunge in a 2-2 count which I liked better and I will still on pace with Jari and friends.
You will finish out with biceps, shoulders and abs. The biceps and shoulders are two of the toughest sets in the workout. The biceps are done in varied counts and is a pretty long set. The shoulders consist of 4 sets total, you will do 2 sets of side lateral raises, then 2 sets of front raises. The ab work is pretty easy and short, you will do 3 exercises, reverse crunches, traditional crunches and oblique twists. Then it's on to the cooldown and stretch. There is also stretching in between most of the exercises so the final stretch isn't too long.
Overall I really liked this workout and give it 4 and a half stars. Jari is a very pleasant instructor and I liked her style, I would definitely buy more workouts from her. The DVD has a few extras, a testimonials section where people talk about why the love the Ripped program, and a techniques and modification section where Krista (one of the Rippers) shows how you can personalize the workout to your needs. I would rate this workout as intermediate, but it is suitable for all levels. I would advise viewing the video before doing so you can familiarize yourself with the different rep counts and tempos as most of the exercises have them. For those who like hi-rep endurance workouts, this one is a great choice. Well done Jari!

Turbo Jam Maximum Results Kit Review

Turbo Jam Maximum Results Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I HATED EXERCISING. But, I'm getting a little older (early 30s), and I finally realized that it's time to lose some weight and do it the healthy way!! I came home from work one morning and saw the infomercial for Turbo Jam on television. I thought this might actually be...dare I say...FUN exercise???
I did a little research and read from many sources that purchasing it directly from Beach Body is a nightmare (credit cards overcharged, horrible customer service, no one speaks English), and I was a little dismayed. I saw that here on Amazon, the cheapest I could find the "Maximum Results" was over $100 with shipping! I was getting frustrated now. Well, I reluctantly went to Ebay (fearful of the increasing number of knock-offs and fraudulent sellers) and found this complete set for $68 (including shipping=).
So, when the set arrived, I opened it and thought, "Geez...not a lot for my $70..." -- two separate DVD cases, some little blue weighted gloves, some books, and a tape measure. Hmm. Had I been taken? Great. Another exercise fad that got my money. But...wait...
I took the time to look through everything before passing judgment. There may have only been two DVD cases, but I found that there is a comprehensive instructional series (the "Learn" part of the "Learn and Burn") which instructs the "Elite 11" moves (on which the entire program is based). The chapters are set so that if you didn't quite understand a move, you hit the "back" button once, and it will take you back to the beginning of that particular move (not to the start of the DVD). Well, at least that's the case with my set! Following the "Learn" is the "Burn", which takes the moves you've just learned and speeds them up just a bit. The moves are slowly integrated into a workout of just under 20 minutes. The first time I tried it, I was a little frustrated. The second and third times, I started liking it. By the fourth time, I had it down, and I was HOOKED. ME...THE HATER OF EXERCISE=0
Next is a 20 minute workout to burn a LOT of calories when time is limited. Again, first couple of times are a challenge. After you get the hang of it, it is just fun.
Still, in the first DVD case is the Turbo Sculpt, which is 40 minutes of "slowed down" toning; Cardio Party, which is 45 minutes of high energy aerobics; and Ab Jam, which is 20 minutes of, well, ab work. After the first time of doing these, I found muscles I didn't know I had!! I felt it the next day, but in a good way.
Finally, the second DVD case has "Punch, Kick, & Jam." This REALLY kicks up the workout...especially when you add the resistance bands (not included, but very inexpensive) and those little blue gloves. Obviously, this one tires me out a lot more, but, again, it's always in a good way.
Your instructor in all of this is Chalene Johnson. When I first saw her, I thought, "Okay...you're going to annoy me." WRONG!! She's cutesy, but NOT in a way that makes you want to slap her around!! She's actually quite fun and motivating. She seems like one of those people who would add to the energy of any room by just walking in. She's positive without being too cheesy and fake.
I have to say that I was quite impressed with the music. I've done TONS of exercise videos, and oftentimes, the music is an afterthought. Here, it is obviously a main focus in the production of these videos. It's energized house music that really does make it seem like..well...a party!
The DVDs include some "behind the scene" stuff, meeting Chalene and the cast and a little more on their lives. Sure, it's a little fluff and self-promotive, but after the workouts, I found that I was actually interested in this. Seeing them all as "real" people made me like them all a little bit more.
So, making this long review even longer...
The "books" included the Turbo Results Guidebook and Turbo Slim 10-day Kick Start.
The guidebook has some really good information in it. Again, it breaks down the "Elite 11". It's in a little different way (obviously. it's in a book.), so it does help to see it explained even further than in the instructional video. It also gives food recommendations for both your diet at home and for dining out. While I don't follow it to the letter, it is definitely a helpful guideline.
I have to say that I haven't tried the Turbo Slim as of yet. I haven't found QUITE that much motivation quite yet. However, in reviewing it, it doesn't look "un-do-able". It outlines ten days of eating and exercise (and the foods can be interchanged if you'd like). The claim is that one can lose up to 10 inches in 10 days. Again, I can't say for sure how this works. Maybe I will eventually try it, and I'll update my review.
In conclusion, I don't work for Turbo Jam, and Chalene isn't my cousin or anything like that. I wrote such a lengthy review because I want people to know exactly what is offered in this set. Every exercise program has its downfalls, and maybe I'll find more in this series after a few more months of doing it. But I've fallen off the wagon so many times because I've gotten bored or annoyed. I've been doing Turbo Jam 5-6 times a week since I've gotten it (even doing two or three of the workouts at a time) because it really is just that enjoyable! I can feel myself getting stronger, and I can see my clothes fitting better. When I'm done doing it, I feel fatigued, but not "dead". After the initial fatigue, I really do feel energized to do more with my day. I'm 1/3 of the way to my "goal weight", and I'm confident that I'm going to get there.

Turbo Jam's Chalene Johnson packs each workout with calorie-blasting kickboxing, body sculpting, and the hottest dance music. Bas Rutten MMA System Workout Review

Bas Rutten MMA System Workout
Average Reviews:

I just received mine very quickly on standard shipping and looks perfect. If you have a heavy bag you need to get this system. It will make working out funner and harder at the same time. The cardio is tremendous and will get your heart rate up quickly and bust into a heavy sweat. I own several systems including p90x, the pit-crosspit- 20s, and Insanity. I use p90x as my main workout and add everything else in the mix in between days (I dont do yoga, kempo, or stretch on p90x). I will actually start doing the bas rutten right after the p90x workouts now and is way funner than the insanity workouts that i was doing for cardio. Dont get me wrong, insanity is great cardio but very repetitive and will wear your knees. The pit is also very good but it does not have as much bag work as Bas Rutten. In The Pit, you will be doing lots of bodyweight pushups, squats, burpees, then throwing you on the bag which is a very effective workout on its own. But the Bas Rutten has definitely exceeded my expectations and is tremendous for getting your heart into shape. And by the way, listening to the audio rather than watching it on the TV like other systems has also impressed me. You can just concentrate on the bag.

The Science of Fitness with Tamilee - I Want That Body (2001) Review

The Science of Fitness with Tamilee - I Want That Body (2001)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I first bought this DVD because I liked that I got six workouts for the price of one DVD. As soon as I got it home, I tried session one of the Buns workout. I got through about 7 of the 15 minutes, and I had trouble sitting down for the next two days! But with practice, doing the workouts two or three times a week, it gets easier, you can get through the whole thing, and you'll definitely see the results.
As some other reviewers have said, the second Buns workout is almost easier than the first, and at least not as aerobic, but the Arms and Abs segments do have a more challenging Session Two. The Arms workouts gave me the fastest results, and while I've just started using the Abs sections (and let me tell you, it will be a while before I can get through the entire Session Two!) I can tell by the feeling in my abs the next day that it's doing its job.
The quality of the DVD and the instructor, Tamilee Webb, make it a workout you don't get tired of doing over and over. Tamilee is encouraging without being annoying or perky, the music isn't loud, the set is simple, and since it's only Tamilee doing the workout, students repeating the moves do not distract you.
The most important thing, though, is that these are truly effective workouts, most are simple enough to follow along with the first or second time around, and since each individual workout is only 15 minutes long, you can find time in your day to at least do one or two. This DVD, along with walking a few times a week and eating healthier foods, has helped me lose 16 pounds in the last few months. It's my favorite workout and I know I'll continue using it for a long time.

I have been doing Pilates for a month now. I had to set this DVD aside for 3 weeks before I could try this workout. It is FAST! On my other tapes there is a lot of instruction and the exercises are performed slowly.
On this one the BASIC workout has 10 exercises and is 7 minutes long. The instruction is given, as the moves are being performed, not before. It is great, but it will take you time to really know the exercises through and through before you are able to follow along.
The Intermediate workout has 15 xercises and is 12 minutes long. On my other DVD's, 15 xercises amounts to at least 45 minutes. I do agree with this DVD, but like I said it will take you time to really know the exercises before you can follow along at this fast pace- A pace like in no other Pilates tape I know of. The exercises themselves are classic Pilates and are done very well and gracefully.
The advanced workout has 25 exercises and is 20 minutes long. This one is good and the man doing the exercises actually sweats a lot, something I have yet to see in any other Pilates film. This is a really challenging workout!
The quality of this DVD is outstanding. You are sure to get a classic Piliates workout of the highest caliper. I do wish there was a one minute pause between exercises so you have time to get out of one exercise and into the next one. It will take you a lot of practice before you can follow along with the people in this workout, but the rewards will be superior to the other tapes. I find it really nice to have so many workouts one one DVD. An amazing value for such quality. I suggest you buy Brooke Silar's book The Pilates Body as well. This book has all the exercies of this DVD, but it also explains them in fine detail that is missing in this DVD.

Girls Next Door Workout (2007) Review

Girls Next Door Workout (2007)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
OK, I'm going to be honest--I originally got the DVD because I'm a fan of Girls Next Door & thought it looked like it would be a fun workout, based on the episode I saw where the girls were putting the video together. As it turns out, I was more than pleasantly surprised at how challenging the workouts actually were... though I was really disappointed with Kendra's, which really felt like a waste of time to me. Here's a break-down of each 15-minute workout:
Holly's 'Express' Workout:
By far my favorite on the DVD, Holly's routine is very user-friendly & leaves you feeling like you've been working out for a lot longer than the 15 minutes. Though it doesn't mention it on the packaging, you'll need weights and an exercise ball.
Bridget's 'Boot Camp' Workout:
No complaints here; I was sore the next day, though, that's for sure! Bridget takes the 'Boot Camp' theme seriously and leads a rigorous, total-body toning session in her 15 minutes; the only downside is that she seems really, really nervous & it comes across every once in awhile during her routine. You'll need a pair of weights for this workout.
Kendra's Martial Arts Demonstration:
Really, this workout isn't even worth bothering with. Think Tae-Bo, but really watered-down and with a blond ponytail, and you've got it. The first three minutes of her section are basically of her dancing, followed by 10 minutes or so of jump roping & a few martial arts moves (kicking, punching and shadow boxing) I didn't even break a sweat during this one.
Overall, a great DVD with charismatic, encouraging "leaders" for quick, fun toning--just skip Kendra's section and work through Holly & Bridget's for a heart-pumping 30 minute workout.

The only downer on this video, is the soundtrack "Love Yourself" playing over and over for 25 minutes. However, I still gave it 5 stars because there is an option to change the music to Bollywood soundtracks which is much better in my opinion. I was really surprised by this video. It really works! I use 5 pound weights so it makes my workout a challenge (for me anyways). I do it with my friends sometimes or on my own. I like that I don't need a lot of equipment in order to do this video. I think that a real challenge would be to do the beginners video and the advanced in one workout. That would be hard! The fact that its cardio, weight lifting and circuit training in only 25 min makes it an A+ because it takes care of everything and will give you results.

Personal Training with Jackie: Power Circuit Training Review

Personal Training with Jackie: Power Circuit Training
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For Power Circuit Training with Jackie, you will need a mat & two sets (heavy + light) of weights. Jackie's system focuses on form, function & fatigue. Circuits are 4 minutes each. The targeted body part is worked in three 1 minute exercises. The last minute is what Jackie calls "Power Burn" in which all three exercises are combined to fatigue the muscles.
On the main menu, there are 5 options to choose from:
- 15 minute Total Body Circuit
- 15 minute Abs only Circuit
- 15 minute Lower Body Circuit
- 15 minute Upper Body Circuit
- 40 minute Total Body Circuit
Here's a breakdown of the 40 minute Total Body Circuit:
Warm-up - 2 minutes
light jog, side to side taps, squat kicks, chain breakers (elbows up-open/shut)opens up the chest, back stroke & trunk twists
Circuit 1 - Quads
*Sissy Squats - these are done with your heels on your weights. You can choose to add intensity by holding weights
*UFCs - drop down to one knee, then other knee, up one knee, up other knee (I've also seen this in one of Jillian's workouts)
to add intensity on this move, stay in the squat position
*Front Lunge - hands on hips or hold weights for extra intensity
Circuit 2 - Hamstrings
*Deadlifts - use heavier weights, go past knees and come up with a pop
*Bridge Extensions - in bridge position, alternate kicking legs up
*Reverse Plank - these are a killer - talk about BURN!!!
Circuit 3 - Glutes
*Front Squats - weights held up in front of chin while squat through heels - she moves fast!
*Ski Lunge - side to side lunges, constant motion - felt the burn =)
*Squat Kicks - squat with alternate leg kicks
Circuit 4 - Chest
*Chest Press - Jackie does an excellent job explaining form for this
*Reverse Fly - open up then squeeze and twist up (like you are trying to touch your elbows)
*Alternate Press - alternate pressing each dumbell up
Circuit 5 - Back
*Wide Row - squeeze shoulder blades together, resist going down
*Renegades - feet together, alternate each arm - really working the back!!
*Dumbbell Pullover - One dumbbell, drop behind head and pull up - resist against weight pulling you down
Circuit 6 - Bicep/Tricep/Shoulder
*Close Grip Hammercurl
*Straight Arm Kick Back - tri's are burning with this!!!
*Arnold Press - weights together palms facing you, then open and up - great shoulder exercise
Circuit 7 - Upper Abs
*Straight leg crunch - holding one weight
*legs straight up in the air and crunch
*Tall Sit-up - still using one dumbbell to help propel you up
Circuit 8 - Lower Abs
*Reverse Crunch
*Tummy Tucks - keep back arched while pulling knees up and out, leading with chest
*Single Leg Jack Knife - opposite hand touches opposite toe
Circuit 9 - Obliques
*Sumo Squats - touch elbows to knees
*Windshield Wipers - legs at 90 degree angle, drop side to side
*Side Planks - pop up using obliques
Stretch - a bit under 2 minutes
Knee Cross Over, pull leg into chest, sit up in straddle position - reach for each ankle to stretch hamstrings, stand up balance on one leg & bend opposite leg up to stretch quads, clasp hands in front and pull back for chest, & straight arm stretch for shoulders.
Jackie does an excellent job throughout describing proper form. The circuits are short, but intense....if you don't feel the intensity, use heavier weights. I love this because she moves quickly, gets to the point and moves onto the next circuit - no boredom here =) My only complaints are; stretch at the end seemed too short and I wish there was one more bicep/tricep/shoulder circuit b/c arms are my trouble spot. Everything else I felt was worked adequately!
Holly Perkins is the only team member in this I recognized. It was pleasant to see her new team, the group in her first video were a bit too over the top for me. I recommend this for all levels since it offers modifications for making it easier or harder! Well Done.

Personal Training With Jackie: Xtreme Timesaver Training Review

Personal Training With Jackie: Xtreme Timesaver Training
Average Reviews:

I have read a couple of opinions on fitness forums about this DVD, and they were not good. I was so close to skipping this based on those opinions, but....I caved, and I was surprised at the intensity!! It is only 32 minutes, however, during that time, Jackie makes you WORK.
Good form is crucial to the effectiveness of this workout. Each exercise works multiple muscle groups, so for the short amount of time, Jackie gets a lot done. Definately a timesaver =) Each exercise is done for one minute, then you move quickly to the next.
Here's a breakdown of the Multi-Joint Circuits:
Warm up
1. Glutes & Shoulders
Plie Squat with Shoulder Circles
Runner Pose with Rear Delt Raise (1 minute each leg)
Curtsey Squat to Side Kick & Punch (1 minute each leg) BALANCE CHALLENGE!!
Squat Pullover (use one weight)
2. Quads & Arms
Squat with Bicep Curls - Concetration Curls
Alternating Front Lunges with Tricep Headbangers (use one weight)
Alternating Forward Lunges with Chest Fly
Reverse Lunges to Front Kick & Punch (one minute each leg)
3. Hip, Chest, Back
Wide Squat Stance (with arms alternating) Punch down & Row up
On Ground - Glute Bridge with Chest Fly
Crawl out, Push up, Crawl back in, Pick up weights & do a Military Press
On Hands & Knees - Elbow to Knee, opposite arm to opposite knee
4. Multi Joint Functional Routine
Split Squat Wood Chop (one minute each leg)
Holding Arms Parallel to floor, palms up - Lift Knee up while squeezing biceps to ears. On opposie leg, traditional bicep curls with elbows pinned to body
On Ground - Kneeling, Leaning Side (lateral) Raise (one minute each side) this really hits obliques too!
Cooldown - This is a really quick Cooldown. You may want to do some additional stretching.
This workout kicked my toosh! I didn't pause it even though my body was begging me at times. One minute sometimes felt like FOREVER. This is a workout for all fitness levels - there's a modifier for beginner, she doesn't use any weights. If the workout gets too easy, up the weights. It's a solid high intermediate workout when done with weights.
I appreciate that this workout is right around 30 minutes. One more 30 minute workout would have been nice....this is the reason I gave it 4 stars. Ten bucks for one workout is not much bang for my buck ; ) If you have any questions, please leave a comment and I will do my best to answer it!
Efficient & effective workout =)

Be A Knockout with Kendra Review

Be A Knockout with Kendra

I'm an at-home fitness dvd addict and own over 100 different styles from old-school Cindy Crawford to Tamilee Webb to Tracy Anderson...Kendra's dvd is divided into five simple 6 minute sections with different themes (basketball, football, soccer, etc.). The moves are very easy to follow and Kendra has a refreshing honest can-do spirit but for an intermediate to advanced exerciser the program lacks weights, toning and anything particularly innovative or challenging. There is NO use of free weights or bands or other toning equipment....even on my first try of the video I added 5lb weights and a 4lb fitness ball to use on the basketball section (if you're a bit creative incorporating weights is not too difficult and really increases the burn).
This video is primarily for newbie exercisers who want a fun albeit simple cardio program.

Workout: One-On-One Training with Jackie Review

Workout: One-On-One Training with Jackie
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is an excellent DVD with 3 circuit workouts (each 20 min long) that have a specific focus: Upper Body, Core, Lower Body. It features Jackie Warner with four of her trainers: Jesse, Rebecca, Augustina and Renessa. While the trainers all do the warmup and stretch together, during the weight training Jackie works out one-on-one with one of the individual trainers. She has them do the workout while she gives them pointers on form and motivation, except in the core workout where they all workout together. She is encouraging without being cheesy.
I really like this workout and felt it provided an adequate challenge for the intermediate and perhaps the beginner exerciser who really wants a challenge (as there are some modifications shown). There are some new and interesting moves as well as some old favorites, so you get a great amount of variety . You do approximately one minute of each weight training exercise and for every 3-4 strength moves you do, there is also 1 minute of a cardio move. It moves at a fast pace but not so fast that you feel intimidated. You'll need light to moderate hand weights and a mat. Come on, you can do anything for a minute! :)
I will give an approximate breakdown of each workout, with the moves performed and the trainer who is actually doing the move while Jackie tells you how to do the move correctly and sometimes shows a modified version. Remember you do 1 minute of each move.
********** Upper Body Workout*********
You start out with a short warm-up with arm circles and boxer twist, then you get into the workout.
>Augustina
-Bent Over Rows (back)
-Rear Delt Fly (delts)
- Cardio (30 sec each): Jumping Jacks & Ski Bunny
>Rebecca
- Modified PushUp (Chest)
- Kneeling Kickback (Triceps)
- Lateral Raise & Front Raise (shoulders) - you alternate between one
one arm doing the lateral raise and the other lifting to the front.
- Cardio: Boxer Twist
>Renessa
- Alternating One Arm Row (back)
- Hammer Curl (biceps)
- WV(basically a shoulder raise in a different position)
- Transverse Fly (shoulders)
- Cardio (Knee-to-Elbow)
> Jesse
- Fly & Press (chest)
- Skull Crusher (triceps)
- Lateral Raise (shoulders)
- Military Press (shoulders)
- Cardio (Speed Bag)
Finally a much deserved cooldown with all the trainers.
********** Core Workout **********
You start out with a brief workout including core rotations, squat with wood chop, overhead squat. In this workout they all workout together and Jackie mostly goes around and gives excellent form pointers but she does the moves sometimes, too. Renessa shows a modified beginner version of the move and Jesse sometimes shows an advanced version. You do each move for one minute. There are a few stretches interspersed throughout, because your abdominals will be sore.
- Crunches
- Clam (The soles of the feet are together with knees out, as you crunch)
- Plank (you hold it for one minute)
- Cardio: Mountain Climber & Plank Twist (30 sec of each)
- Bicycles
- Figure Eight (while sitting on the floor you lean back slightly and alternately clap your hands under each leg)
- Side Plank Rotation (30 seconds on each side)
- Cardio: Torso Twist
- Straight Leg Tap
- Scissors
- Penguin Heel Tap (really targets the obliques)
- Cardio: Half Burpees
- V-sit Extend & Flex
- Side Roll
- Plank Variation
- Cardio: Fast Bicycles
Finally, a much deserved stretch.
********** Lower Body Workout *********
You start out with a warmup mainly using a half range of motion: little pulse squats, side lunge, front lunge, backward lunge. Again, you do each of the moves for 60 seconds, and hand weights can be used on most of the exercises.
>Augustina
- Squat
- Front Lunge
- Box Squat
- Cardio: Frog Hop & Shuffle (30 seconds each)
> Jesse
- Plie Squat
- Backward Lunge
- Drop Step
- Cardio: Jump Lunge Shuffle & Military KneeUp (30 seconds each)
> Renessa
- Sumo Squat
- Front Diagonal Lunges
- Sumo Squat with Drop Step (the drop step is basically a curtsy squat)
- Cardio: Knee Up Jog & Squat with Side Kick (30 seconds each)
> Rebecca (this part is done on the ground, so you'll probably need a mat)
- Bridge
- Reverse Scissor(lay on your stomach and kick your legs over each other)
- Three Quarter Kick (similar to a Donkey Kick)- 60 seconds on each side
You finish off with a nice lower body and back stretch.

**********
Overall, you will definitely feel the burn and see results with this one. It is well worth the price and Jackie is a master trainer.
