Power Half Hour Ab Burner with Tony Horton Review

Power Half Hour Ab Burner with Tony Horton
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have the complete Power Half Hour set (all included on 1 DVD) and these are tough little workouts!
The Ab Burner combines Cardio circuits w/ Ab circuits.
This combination makes sense because since there is no such thing as "spot reduction" of bodyfat, truly you need to actually burn calories to lose fat all over, then the ab work you do has a chance of actually being seen.
Of course you have to eat cleanly as well as workout or there's no way most people will ever see results, but from the workout end of things, this program (and the others in the Power Half Hour Series) really delivers!
If you get this, be prepared to work hard. It's short but it packs a LOT of punch!

TURBO JAM FAT BLASTER Review

TURBO JAM FAT BLASTER

I bought this DVD a month ago and I LOVE it. This is the fastest way to help lose weight I have ever tried. The workout starts with a short warm-up, then into a moderate cardio, and boom! A high-intensity turbo. Studies have shown that switching from high-intensity to a lower intensity throughout the workout gets much faster results. Well this is proof! I would have paid twice as much for this DVD and still thought of it as a bargain. The other DVD's she has are great too, but this one is my favorite because it gives FAST results! I lost 20 pounds last month from diet and this workout. Worth every penny!

HIP HOP ABS Package - Fat Burning Cardio, Ab Sculpt, Total Body Burn, Secrets to Flat Abs (2007) Review

HIP HOP ABS Package - Fat Burning Cardio, Ab Sculpt, Total Body Burn, Secrets to Flat Abs (2007)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pros: I hate doing aerobics and I'm not into health clubs, but when it's cold outside, I have to compromise, so when I saw this DVD on an infomercial, I gave it a shot. I love to dance and I love hip hop. From another site, I checked out how the actual dance aerobics were and enjoyed that enough to buy this (it's a little too expensive though).
Fat Burning Cardio: Shaun T doesn't go so fast that you can't keep up, but just enough to keep you energized. Plus, the man is extra funny, especially when "Don't Cha" by the Pussycat Dolls comes on. There are those who can count steps and there are those who can really dance, and from his body movement, I'm convinced he can really work the floor. This is by far the most fun I've ever had when doing aerobics and I plan to go through the whole 4-week plan, especially since Chicago weather is crazy anyway so I know I can't jog everyday like I want to. Didn't know he was an Alpha Phi Alpha until I looked at one of his sites, so that explains the frat hop dance he does, and that is my favorite part of the "Fat Burner" DVD.
Ab Sculpting: The abs are the most difficult part to gain muscle in but his workouts automatically make me feel the burn (yes, I know, very cliche to say). But surprisingly, it's my legs that are getting the most workout just from the dancing involved.
Total Body Burn: That workout was hard. I'm sure it'll get easier with time, but for the most part, I wanted it be over. On the other hand, I loved the music the most on this one, especially Lumidee, as well as the dances that resembled tribal techniques. The second time around, however, this workout wasn't so bad. Still worked up a sweat (and I'm not a sweater so that was surprising) but not as surprisingly hard as the first time around.
Secrets to Flat Abs: Since I'd done the work-outs already, this stuff was kind of like studying for a test after you've already taken it and the scantrons are collected. But if I'd done this first, it would've been useful.
Five Minute Workout: Speaking of exercises that'll kill you, that one had me so worn out that I sat on my floor for about ten minutes and didn't even realize I'd fallen asleep. It's such a quick but fierce workout. You feel like you worked out that 22-25 minutes from the intensity of it.
Teach You How to Dance: I got a little lost with that one because he was getting excited with his choreography and some of the moves were a little old school and slightly drag queen, but it will be enjoyable for people who don't really know how to dance.Cons: Although he does hip hop dance, I have yet to hear a real hip hop song. This is more like dance/pop music, but it's all good since I like a lot of that too and the language won't get BeachBody in trouble.

Turbo Jam Maximum Results Kit Review

Turbo Jam Maximum Results Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I HATED EXERCISING. But, I'm getting a little older (early 30s), and I finally realized that it's time to lose some weight and do it the healthy way!! I came home from work one morning and saw the infomercial for Turbo Jam on television. I thought this might actually be...dare I say...FUN exercise???
I did a little research and read from many sources that purchasing it directly from Beach Body is a nightmare (credit cards overcharged, horrible customer service, no one speaks English), and I was a little dismayed. I saw that here on Amazon, the cheapest I could find the "Maximum Results" was over $100 with shipping! I was getting frustrated now. Well, I reluctantly went to Ebay (fearful of the increasing number of knock-offs and fraudulent sellers) and found this complete set for $68 (including shipping=).
So, when the set arrived, I opened it and thought, "Geez...not a lot for my $70..." -- two separate DVD cases, some little blue weighted gloves, some books, and a tape measure. Hmm. Had I been taken? Great. Another exercise fad that got my money. But...wait...
I took the time to look through everything before passing judgment. There may have only been two DVD cases, but I found that there is a comprehensive instructional series (the "Learn" part of the "Learn and Burn") which instructs the "Elite 11" moves (on which the entire program is based). The chapters are set so that if you didn't quite understand a move, you hit the "back" button once, and it will take you back to the beginning of that particular move (not to the start of the DVD). Well, at least that's the case with my set! Following the "Learn" is the "Burn", which takes the moves you've just learned and speeds them up just a bit. The moves are slowly integrated into a workout of just under 20 minutes. The first time I tried it, I was a little frustrated. The second and third times, I started liking it. By the fourth time, I had it down, and I was HOOKED. ME...THE HATER OF EXERCISE=0
Next is a 20 minute workout to burn a LOT of calories when time is limited. Again, first couple of times are a challenge. After you get the hang of it, it is just fun.
Still, in the first DVD case is the Turbo Sculpt, which is 40 minutes of "slowed down" toning; Cardio Party, which is 45 minutes of high energy aerobics; and Ab Jam, which is 20 minutes of, well, ab work. After the first time of doing these, I found muscles I didn't know I had!! I felt it the next day, but in a good way.
Finally, the second DVD case has "Punch, Kick, & Jam." This REALLY kicks up the workout...especially when you add the resistance bands (not included, but very inexpensive) and those little blue gloves. Obviously, this one tires me out a lot more, but, again, it's always in a good way.
Your instructor in all of this is Chalene Johnson. When I first saw her, I thought, "Okay...you're going to annoy me." WRONG!! She's cutesy, but NOT in a way that makes you want to slap her around!! She's actually quite fun and motivating. She seems like one of those people who would add to the energy of any room by just walking in. She's positive without being too cheesy and fake.
I have to say that I was quite impressed with the music. I've done TONS of exercise videos, and oftentimes, the music is an afterthought. Here, it is obviously a main focus in the production of these videos. It's energized house music that really does make it seem like..well...a party!
The DVDs include some "behind the scene" stuff, meeting Chalene and the cast and a little more on their lives. Sure, it's a little fluff and self-promotive, but after the workouts, I found that I was actually interested in this. Seeing them all as "real" people made me like them all a little bit more.
So, making this long review even longer...
The "books" included the Turbo Results Guidebook and Turbo Slim 10-day Kick Start.
The guidebook has some really good information in it. Again, it breaks down the "Elite 11". It's in a little different way (obviously. it's in a book.), so it does help to see it explained even further than in the instructional video. It also gives food recommendations for both your diet at home and for dining out. While I don't follow it to the letter, it is definitely a helpful guideline.
I have to say that I haven't tried the Turbo Slim as of yet. I haven't found QUITE that much motivation quite yet. However, in reviewing it, it doesn't look "un-do-able". It outlines ten days of eating and exercise (and the foods can be interchanged if you'd like). The claim is that one can lose up to 10 inches in 10 days. Again, I can't say for sure how this works. Maybe I will eventually try it, and I'll update my review.
In conclusion, I don't work for Turbo Jam, and Chalene isn't my cousin or anything like that. I wrote such a lengthy review because I want people to know exactly what is offered in this set. Every exercise program has its downfalls, and maybe I'll find more in this series after a few more months of doing it. But I've fallen off the wagon so many times because I've gotten bored or annoyed. I've been doing Turbo Jam 5-6 times a week since I've gotten it (even doing two or three of the workouts at a time) because it really is just that enjoyable! I can feel myself getting stronger, and I can see my clothes fitting better. When I'm done doing it, I feel fatigued, but not "dead". After the initial fatigue, I really do feel energized to do more with my day. I'm 1/3 of the way to my "goal weight", and I'm confident that I'm going to get there.

Turbo Jam Beachbody 5 Rockin' Workouts Review

Turbo Jam Beachbody 5 Rockin' Workouts
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Cardio Party was the first Turbo Jam video I've tried. I was looking for a fun kickboxing workout, and overall, I was not disappointed. The workout wasn't as dancey as I had expected--there are occasional brief interludes where you are encouraged to move to your own beat--but the entire atmosphere is more akin to a dance club than to a workout studio.
This workout is about 43 minutes long, and I realy liked how it was broken down: each chapter is a 6-7 minute segment that is separately choreographed, so once you are done with that segment, you move on to a new routine. I have provided an overview for the moves contained in each segment below (times are approximate, and I didn't necessarily include *every* move):
Warm-Up, 4 minutes. Charlene begins by warming you up with each of the 4 basic punches (jab, cross, hook, upper) and simple side steps. A few moving stretches are included towards the end.
1st cardio segment, 7 minutes. As with most of the segments, you'll learn two combinations which you then connect together. The first combination consists of "wheel" (a standing side crunch) combined with cross and hook punches. This combo connects to a march with alternating knee lifts and then double knee lifts to either side; at the end, Chalene changes the march to a jog.
2nd cardio segment, 7.5 minutes. The first combination here consists of a partial squat to either side; side kicks are then added to the squat. Building on this, you'll do the squat/side kicks, then squat front and back, add front/back push kicks, and then add knee lifts with front/back push kicks. Last comes a move Chalene calls a "twist"--you'll move front with jab-cross-jab punches and then do a knee lift, first just on the one side but then on both sides with arms added in. The entire sequence is then repeated to the other side.
3rd cardio segment, 7.5 minutes. You'll start here with speed bag, adding an upper cut to the end of the move and then adding a front knee/back kick. After doing two knees to either side, you'll add in "Tai" punches--slow punches and blocks to the front while in "horse" stance (straddle squat).
Turbo, 1.5 minutes. For the turbo, a siren goes off and you kick up the intensity, doing jogs and hopping knee lifts. However, two of the women in the large class always do a low-impact version of the moves.
Water break, 30 seconds. Following the Turbo, there is a pause allowing you to get a drink of water, although Chalene encourages you to keep moving during this time.
Recovery Dance Party, 6 minutes (but for some reason, this segment continues partly into the next chapter). I didn't really notice much difference between this and the other cardio segments; after a brief freestyle dance at the very beginning, Chalene moves back into kickboxing combinations. Here, she does cross, hook, and uppercut punches to one corner, speed bags to repeat in the opposite corner, and then does "zig zag" knees--basically, a side crunch combined with a knee lift to one side; eventually, a back kick is added on as well.
Final cardio segment, 4 minutes. This is a quick segment performed entirely in horse stance. First, you do a front speedbag followed by quick cross punches. Staying in horse stance, you do a high-low punch to the side, then add zig zag knees; for the last couple of reps, Chalene does a hop when doing the knee lift.
Aerobic cool-down, 3 minutes. Chalene describes the moves in this section as "finesse." There are some arm swings to the front plus some low front and back kicks, but everything is performed at a slower, more relaxed pace.
Stretch, 1.5 minutes. Here, Chalene borrows from Tai Chi and talks about focusing your energy; she does just a few very brief stretches such as a hamstring stretch.
Overall, this is a high-intenstiy workout that is mostly low-impact--there are a few jacks/hops thrown in here and there, but as previously mentioned, two of the participants always show funky, low-impact alternatives. The mood of this workout is definitely high energy, and the music is loud and upbeat, with a few recognizable songs (eg, a very fast version of "Busta Move"). Also, there is a countdown bar at the bottom of the screen which lets you know how much time is left in the current segment as well as previews the upcoming moves. If you enjoy kickboxing but are looking for a style that's more fun and funky than serious, this might be the perfect video for you.
Additional comments about the instructor: Chalene is clearly enthusiastic and has a ton of energy. She makes frequent comments to say that she *knows* you are having fun, and there are several points where she bursts out singing along to the moves. I would say that she's pretty over-the-top, but I didn't find her to be annoyingly so.
You may have heard that Charlene's cueing is poor; she actually *does* cue, but I wasn't always sure what she was talking about. For example, she cued "twist," which turned out to be a punching move. If I had done her "Learn and Burn" video first, I'm sure I would have found it much easier to follow along with this workout, but as it was, I was able to pick up the combinations pretty quickly the very first time through.

Debbie Siebers' Slim in 6 Review

Debbie Siebers' Slim in 6
Average Reviews:

I ordered Slim in 6 four months ago and soon began the program. Slowly I began seeing reults. However, I only did the program 4-5 times a week. Had I done the recommended 6 days a week I'm sure the results would have been better. Debbie is a good motivator and I never really got sick of seeing her (the niceness helps). Overall, it is a good program and will bring results if you follow the guidlines.
However, Beachbody's costumer service is HORRENDOUS. The infomercial makes it seem as if you getting all 3 dvds at the time of purchase, when you really only get 2, and then they charge you again to get the last set. I had 8 phone conversations and 4 emails with representatives because they said they fix something and never did. They even shipped and charged me for a brand new set that I never ordered! When I finally spoke with a supervisor, she was rude and impersonal. I told her then that I would never buy another product from this company until they got their act together. Her response: "Is there anything else you need today." !!! Because of this, I would never deal with Beachbody again. It is not worth the hasle and extra money being taken that has to be replaced....order it from Amazon!

Chalean Extreme - Workout DVD Review

Chalean Extreme - Workout DVD
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This workout is great because there is a different workout for each day of the week. The weight training portion is only about 35 minutes long each - done 3 times a week and the two cardio days are a killer - interval training and you know you are burning off alot of calories. I really love the countdown clock - for each exercise, there is a clock that shows how much time is left. I have lost some body fat already - only on week 2 - although I haven't been eating as well as I should - I can only imagine how much more I could be losing if I followed the eating plan as well. Chalene is fun, motivational, and really so comfortable to listen to. And I like the slow and heavy reps - even in the 2nd week, I feel sore after each workout (and I am already in pretty good shape from before as I am a runner).
Definitely worth the money - I actually cancelled my gym membership b/c with this, I am consistently working out, unlike not being able to go the gym or not having the motivation to go.
UPDATE: I am now on week 6 of this program and went from a 28% body fat to 24% within 6 weeks, and that is without "dieting." I lost about 4 inches from my waist, 1 inch from my hips, but only 4 pounds overall. This is exactly the kind of result that I wanted - lose body fat, look leaner and tighter, and not lose muscle mass. And I still look forward to working out every day. Chalene says in the beginning that there will come a time when I will look forward to my workouts. Well, I definitely do now. And this is from me, a busy mom of 3 little kids, who is near 40.

P90X Plus - Workout DVD Review

P90X Plus - Workout DVD
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the P90X workouts the Summer of 2008, and I loved the original workouts. They are a must for someone working out at home, who has gotten a little bored with their traditional workout. At the same time, I bought the Plus series too. They just don't pack the punch of the P90X workouts from the standpoint of routines, challenge, and production value. They simply aren't as challenging and intense as the originals.
IntervalX and Abs/Core introduces variations of traditional ab and cardio work. Some of the new variations are fun, but they aren't that different than other routines in P90X. With me being almost done with my second round of P90X, I use these workouts about once every two weeks on average. I've been critical so far, but I do like the Interval X workout for its quick cardio. You can get a good burn doing the short 30 minute workout. Tony takes you thru 12 different routines of slow, medium, and then fast. It gets the heart pumping and you get a good sweat from it.
Total Body Plus is a 40 minute workout with 10 minutes of warm up and cool down, plus around 30 minutes of actual workout. Tony takes you heat to toe working out shoulders, chest, back, arms, and legs. Its not overly challenging, but you can get a good workout in the 25 minutes of actually working out. You do a variations of routines with and without weights. From push ups to pull ups to some lifting, this workout will work your entire body. You won't be spent after the workout, so you could do some cardio or abs along with this routine. It too easy for me, and I'm looking for something a bit harder. That being said, my teenage daughter and wife loves this workout. They do it twice a week, so its almost ideal for a total body workout at low to medium intensity. I'm not saying this workout is for women only, but its not challenging enough for me personally.
Kenpo Cardio is another short cardio burn that IS more intense than the first Kenpo P90X workout. I actually use this over the original, because while shorter I feel it gives me a better burn. The original Kenpo was more of a slow steady burn for 40 minutes, while this is more of an up tempo 32 minute burn. It has most of the same moves but at a quicker and more intense pace. As stated earlier, I use this one exclusively over the 1st Kenpo.
Upper Plus is a good solid workout that isn't much different. It variations of all your normal back, chest, and arm workouts. It maybe be the most intense of the Plus series, but its nothing you have to have or didn't do with P90X.
I don't want to be overly critical of the Plus series, but Beach Body made these to capitalize on the original. I don't blame them, but I am disappointed and wished I hadn't bought them. They simply fall short in production value, intensity, and the results you get from them. These are shorter workouts meant to go along with the P90X workouts and not to replace them. You simply won't get the results as the original routines, but I don't think they are meant to. They only compliment the others, and so I could live without them. At 40 I'm looking for intense and challenging workouts to maintain what I got, and these don't do it for me. These are ideal for men and women who want a moderate workout in less than 35 minutes. If you haven't bought the P90X workouts, then I highly encourage you to do so. You won't be disappointed and the 12 routines will keep things really fresh. If you do have the originals, you really don't need these at all. They are nice complimentary workouts , and only ideal for someone looking for a moderate workout. I'm not a fitness trainer, so my opinion may not be worth spit. But for all of you guys, that are looking for a challenging to hard workout...don't buy these dvds. They are good but not worth the hundred Plus bucks you'll pay for them.

Beachbody Power 90 - 2 DVD Set with Tony Horton (The 90 Day In-Home Boot Camp for Total Body Transformation) Review

Beachbody Power 90 - 2 DVD Set with Tony Horton (The 90 Day In-Home Boot Camp for Total Body Transformation)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Power 90 is a 90 day program for men and women designed to transform your booty from NOT to HOT! The system includes 2 DVD's, a transformation tracker (paper calender to record your progress), descriptive booklet and guide to healthy eating.
To begin the program you record your weight and measurements. Then push play with Tony the instructor in your DVD player. You alternate between circuit days and cardio/abs days. The circuit days include exercises such as heavy pants, push ups, one arm triceps, bicep curls, back flys, lunges and more. The cardio/abs day includes kickboxing, leg raises, ab work and more. As you progress you move from the first DVD to the progressively harder second DVD. One very nice feature is each session is only about 30-40 minutes long. As the Beachbody company says from "power to shower in under an hour". Another great feature is the use of a sidebar on your picture screen. As you complete each exercise the color changes so you can view your time and progress.
Tony the instructor is a peppy guy with a sense of humor but not overdone. He is accompanied by a man and a woman in each set. Cueing is good with modifications suggested for those who need it. You may do the workout with free weights or purchase bands from the company. The bands are heavy duty and in my opinion make the workout much more difficult but may put strain on the back.
A simple diet guide is included in the program. Called "Michi's ladder" it suggests good foods to select from and eat most of the time. This is a simple brochure and more information is needed. To transform your body exercise is very important but what you eat counts A LOT! Not enough attention is paid to this.
Beachbody also recommends supplements which they sell of course. They claim that these will enhance your workout and help you achieve the body of your dreams at a much more rapid pace. However, when I checked into it, I found the studies they had done were limited and incomplete. Many of the ingredients are unproven. I would think twice about purchasing them. A "commercial" for the supplements is included on all Beachbody tapes.
I checked out the website over a period of several months and found a number of people who were happily shrinking in size and weight or gaining muscle. Many posted their pictures. Conversely, I also saw many who posted pictures and slowly faded from sight dropping out of the program, leaving their "befores" but no "afters" for all to see in cyberspace!
I really think the exercise program can be very effective, but it is repetitious. Day after day you will for 90 days be doing the same thing. But its a boot camp. For those who want to kick a** and don't mind repetition - this may be the ticket. Those who want to try it should also check out the free message boards at the companies beachbody.com web site.
Others may want to go with something simpler. Whatever you do, if you opt to go for it..stick with it a while before you post those "before" pictures just in case you never make it to the "after" stage!

I'm a former P90X junkie. That program literally changed my life and got me into the best shape of my life, even at 40 years old.
So I was pumped when I saw this one coming down the pike. Got it for my birthday last year. However, this is not P90X. That is not a criticism at all, just don't expect more of the same.
This is all floor exercises using your body weight with lots of plyometric and isometic exercises, cardio and core exercise that will work you - hard. And then it will work your core even more. Its primary focus is the core.
And it will get you into the best shape of your life. I say that with a few caveats.
It's broken into two four week segments with a "recovery" week in between. I completed the first four weeks, the "recovery" week and the first week of the second half of the program. Had to slow down the intensity because my job went to 12 hour shifts.
I now do it several times a week, when time permits. I can tell you this, though: I do the Plyometric workout from P90X when I need an easy day. My leg strength, especially the explosive kind, has increased tenfold. And my cardio is through the roof.
But this will kick your a** no matter what kind of shape you are in. Even the participants in the DVD have to quit and take breaks. It's that intense.
It is tough on the body, though, so be prepared. If you aren't in some semblance of shape, you may want to rethink this one. I pulled a neck muscle during the first week because I didn't breathe properly. It will tax your joints, your knees, your feet, your back. It requires serious focus. Breathing is key. Drink lots of water. And move at your own pace.
The caveat is really only this: you may lose quite a bit of muscle mass. This doesn't mean you will get less strong but with no exercises for the biceps or the lats (no pull-ups here), those "glamour muscles" will lose size.
People commented on my weight loss, even though I wasn't trying to lose weight. I just couldn't eat enough food. Your food intake will determine your results. So I shrank but, in many ways, I was stronger than ever. Size doesn't always equal strength.
You will notice your body change, your core will be the strongest it's ever been and you will be in incredible shape, even if you only do the program at half the intensity.
I give it a thumbs up but know what you want to get out of the program and understand what it is about before investing your time and money in it.
