Cardioke by Billy Blanks Jr. Review

I came across this workout on Comcast ON DEMAND. Its one of the most fun workouts I've ever done. Its easy, and it really does make you sweat. You almost forget how hard you're working because you are having so much fun. However, I think the selling strategy for this video is a complete rip-off. Its completely insane to list this DVD for $151.00 when its only $19.99 on the exericse TV website. But ironically as soon as the video becomes available its on back already order. And while you are waiting for it to come off back order, COMCAST has pulled it from ON DEMAND. Its a terrible thing to do to the same customers that put money in your pocket in the first place. I'm very disappointed that Amazon would participate in such disrespect towards its customers, especially in this economy. If they are not careful, CARDIOKE will lose its fanbase before it even has a chance to be successful. I would never pay this much for a video... so I will be waiting until it becomes available, and if it doesn't, they will lose my money and I will move on to the next best workout video.

HIP HOP ABS DANCE PARTY - Rockin' Abs and Hard Body Workouts - Includes 5 Minute Ab Blaster - Shaun T (2007)

Ok,
So I loved these workouts since I've gotten them. I had the first Hip Hop Abs series you see on television. The deal for those was just so sweet and I figured why not try it. :)
I loved that first series!! So I was super hopeful for this one.
When you first start working out and stuff with the videos, unless you've taken dance classes, you may feel like a bit of a doof trying to do these pretty cool moves, but eventually (like 2 workouts) you'll feel good and can do them fine. You totally feel like you're there and Shaun T is just super funny.
Ok. ok.. so about this workout.
The First workout I did was Rockin' Abs. Let me tell you the difference between the first set of DVDs and the Dance Party series is significant. The moves are almost all new and it starts out fast. If you have the foundation of the first videos you'll be fine though. The music is really good too. I didn't recognize any of the songs from the radio, but I enjoyed them.
The workout itself is challenging. You do some floor work, but one of the hardest exercises was when you do a push up and at the same time you extend your leg out to the side and you do it on tempo (those who do these DVDs know what that means). For those who don't want to do that move, like me on the first try, Tonya does a simplified move for us.
The workout is great and you can totally feel the ab workout. The floor routine isn't that hard, but you do get a nice stretch. All and all a great workout.
Then there's the Hardbody workout. It's 100% delicious!
Great music, great moves, high energy and you'll be smiling through most of it, while you're able to learn new moves. I loved this workout!!! It worked out the upper body and the lower body, but I'd say it's more of an upper body (arms and abs than lower body). You totally get your cardio in and you will probably sweat.
I really, really loved this video a lot. Like the other video (don't think I mentioned it) but you can use your weighted gloves or the weights. I'd wait to use both until you know the moves (if you think that's not heavy enough.
Hope this helped!

Power Half Hour Ab Burner with Tony Horton Review

Power Half Hour Ab Burner with Tony Horton
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have the complete Power Half Hour set (all included on 1 DVD) and these are tough little workouts!
The Ab Burner combines Cardio circuits w/ Ab circuits.
This combination makes sense because since there is no such thing as "spot reduction" of bodyfat, truly you need to actually burn calories to lose fat all over, then the ab work you do has a chance of actually being seen.
Of course you have to eat cleanly as well as workout or there's no way most people will ever see results, but from the workout end of things, this program (and the others in the Power Half Hour Series) really delivers!
If you get this, be prepared to work hard. It's short but it packs a LOT of punch!

Cardio Bellydance Workout : Bellycore Review

Cardio Bellydance Workout : Bellycore
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a cardio workout from a physical trainer/bellydancer using bellydance as the fundamentals. The warm up segment is pilates and not too complicated. The 4 level breathing technique is interesting and taught well. Some yoga poses are included. Undulating traveling steps were fun to do. Some steps as the Turkish 2 step are repeated too much. Cool down seems a bit too much like a second workout. The studio setting is good, the trainer pleasant just a bit unconnected with her viewer- moving too fast appearing more like a physical trainer than a dancer, but then is that so bad for a cardio workout? Overall this seems to be a compilation of bellydance, pilates, yoga. There is a nice performance at the end by the trainer herself. The music is great by Gypsy Caravan, Jehan, Knossos.

Shaun T's Rockin' Body - Disco Groove Set - Includes 4 Workouts - by Beachbody (2008)
Average Reviews:

Always set on stage w/lights & audience
Mark, Move & Groove - 15 min
6 dance moves, mostly marches, shimmy, hand movements w/standing crunch, 2 taps out, grapevine, 2 steps & cha cha, all dance, a quick & easy workout. Only bad thing is an annoying LOUD BEEP to let you know when to start the move after Shaun teaches it. Drove me NUTS.
Disco Groove - 35 min
This is pure dance that really works the obliques, even tough I don't normally like disco, they really made this a lot of fun.
Party Express - 25 min
Mostly dance w/some regular hopping & running in place.
Shaun T's Dance Party - 43 min
This is mostly dance as well w/a bit more regular hopping & hand jives, though has a great cool down. I didn't like this one as much for some reason.
As always, he breaks down every move so you are first just stepping side to side, then adds more, then the upper body, then the style, Always easy to follow & he always has fun & demands you have fun too & not dance half-heartedly. I love how he has fun, though sometimes he talks to the camera too long when you're doing step touches before learning a new move or after finishing a "routine," though maybe those few seconds are for grabbing some water.
I would love for him to do a straight dance workout that incorporates more complicated dance moves.

Shape: Bikini Body Camp Transforming Workout Review

Shape: Bikini Body Camp Transforming Workout
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this DVD because I wanted a workout DVD that can REPLACE my gym workout, not provide me with something a little extra on a "down" day. Lucky for me, unlucky for my muscles, I got what I asked for.
Program 1 is a cardio workout simulating hills so your heart rate goes up and down steadily. This workout is very intense, and I wouldn't recommend it if you have weak knees due to the jumping lunges and jumping jacks. Ouch. I am used to doing 50 min. of moderate/intense training on the elliptical, where I only produce a thin sheen of sweat--not with this one! I definitely had to stop in the middle to have some H2O. Everytime I do any of the Shape workouts I lose about 2 lbs of water weight. Interesting. I will also note that I go to the gym about 4-5 times a week and am not overweight. These workouts are challenging to people who are in shape, not just a moderate exerciser.
Program 2 is sculpting...I think there is a little too much emphasis on the arms in this one instead of the legs, but oh well. I also wish there was a section just for abs instead of them just telling me to squeeze my abs while I did the other exercises. After lifting for so long I could barely lift my arms and they do shoulders (full extension) towards the end of the weights section, which I think is a terrible idea!!!
Program 3 is a mix of kickboxing, sculpting, and drills. On my first rotation of the 3 programs, I had to take a day off between programs 2 and 3 to let my muscles heal, because after 2 I could barely stand and definitely could not do a squat or lunge! Now, this program is either the easiest of all three, or I'm getting the hang of these crazy workouts, because today I'm only a little sore. I was still sweating a lot during this one though (yup, 2 lbs of water weight gone).
Overall, I really like how there are a variety of workouts on one DVD; you can do it everyday without getting bored (so far). I am going to continue with the program they suggest of rotating the workouts 5 times a week to see if I tone up some. However, if I update my review and say that I lost like 10 lbs or something crazy like that, I'm still going to the gym like 4 times a week in addition--so, doing two workouts a day may contribute further to my weight loss, hah. Oh, and I love the resistance band that comes with the DVD. It really helps with the intensity.

Billy Blanks - All New Tae Bo Boot Camp Elite (2006) Review

Billy Blanks - All New Tae Bo Boot Camp Elite (2006)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I started out as recommended, with Mission One, which is a primer to Mission Two- you mostly just get the basic moves down and start working with the 'Billy Bands'. The Billy Bands can be awkward, even though they do seem to intensify the workout by a lot. Mission Two is tough! I thought I was in great shape. I work out on a regular basis at the gym and at home, and I am having a hard time keeping up. I am going to keep trying this and I am following the training schedule suggested. The only problems with this program are: 1) Billy can be pretty corny, and he sort of tries to give really poorly rehearsed pep talks at the end of each DVD- I think he should add more cool down and stretches instead. 2) The Billy Bands can be tricky. I adjusted them to be shorter for Mission One but for Mission Two I had to let the tension back out again because there is absolutely no way you can do Mission Two with too much tension in the bands. Even Billy has technical difficulties on the DVD with his bands. 3) The workout is so hard that you can't realistically do all of the sets without losing good form and so I find that I am getting some strain in my neck and my back- two places that you really shouldn't feel your workout. I am going to keep at it though because I have seen a difference, mostly in my upper body and abs. I have done other Billy Blanks videos and I think he goes too fast to maintain form a lot of times, but I understand that he probably does that to increase your heart rate. 4) Mission Two really works your upper body and upper abs, but there isn't as much concentration on the lower body and lower abs. I have yet to attempt Mission Three which concentrates on the abs, so I am sure that I will get a lower ab workout there. I think I am going to purchase his leg workout to try to round out the whole experience. All in all it's not bad, but I think it's a little too advanced for people who are just starting an exercise program. I am not positive I would purchase this again.

TURBO JAM FAT BLASTER Review

TURBO JAM FAT BLASTER

I bought this DVD a month ago and I LOVE it. This is the fastest way to help lose weight I have ever tried. The workout starts with a short warm-up, then into a moderate cardio, and boom! A high-intensity turbo. Studies have shown that switching from high-intensity to a lower intensity throughout the workout gets much faster results. Well this is proof! I would have paid twice as much for this DVD and still thought of it as a bargain. The other DVD's she has are great too, but this one is my favorite because it gives FAST results! I lost 20 pounds last month from diet and this workout. Worth every penny!

Buff Moms-to-Be: The Early Workout

I bought this DVD without the benefit of a review, so I felt a little vulnerable about it. I am 20 weeks pregnant. I searched for DVDs that allowed me to do Pilates while still pregnant. Something about the reviews of those videos caused me to NOT want to get one. So I got this one, and I am VERY happy with it. It definitely works your muscles, but I never felt overly strained or exhausted. It's about 40 minutes, which is great. There is a warm up, a cardio portion, and then a warm down/strengthening portion. What I like about it is the instructor is not pregnant, but she has 2 pregnant women doing the exercises with her--a woman in her 2nd trimester and a woman in her 3rd trimester. And these women will show you the modifications that are recommended for women in those stages of pregnancy. I would definitely recommend this video for someone who is interested in staying fit during her pregnancy. You need weights, a chair, and some pillows, but all can be done in your home easily.

Karen Voight - Slim Physique (1998) Review

Karen Voight - Slim Physique (1998)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
While this is an interesting concept, will it work for you?
Do you only have 30 minutes a day for a workout? Then, this might be a great solution. Karen has created a variety of mix 'n match workouts. All you do is select the day of the workout. If you are used to working out for an hour, you might have to combine two days.
Monday (Cardio & Lower Body Strength): This is an interesting combination of small cardio segments that seem to increase in intensity. You end the workout with a short floor routine and some stretches.
Tuesday (Yoga Strength): Karen shows you how to get the most out of each move. She will work your body into a finely tuned fitness machine. Compared to other 45-60 minute yoga workouts I have, this seemed to be a very quick workout for me, so adding 40 minutes of walking will take this to a new level. You can do the walking before the yoga and it will warm your muscles so you can go deeper into the stretches.
Wednesday (Cardio & Abdominal Strength): Aerobics workout in which you start with a warm-up routine, then move into more energetic moves. I thought the "bunny hops" were kinda cute. It is like using a jump rope without the rope. Karen is a bundle of high energy and takes you from simple moves to complex routines that not only challenge your body, you have to stay very aware and the footwork is very creative. The aerobics workout is followed by floor routines for abs. Some stretching at the end.
Thursday (Upper & Lower Body Strength): You start with the cardio workout and then work your way into using weights while standing. Lots of upper body work and then you go to the mat and continue working out your upper body. The cool down has some lower body stretches.
Friday (Abdominals & Yoga Stretch OR Yoga Strength): You start with Abdominals and have to get to you mat very quickly. In fact, you might want to be flat on your back with the remote in hand before you even start. Karen seems to be famous for jumping right into the workout, so this is something you have to be aware of. There is no explanation before each workout. The explanations are all during the workouts and the instruction is refined and you make the most of each move. The Yoga workout is on an oriental carpet and is quite a beautiful routine due to the carpet, the music and the lighting, wood floor, etc. This is my favorite section on the DVD. Karen's black cat-suit type outfit also sparkles. This section of the workout is sort of magical and relaxing. I'd like to see more workouts like this! An entire DVD of stretching routines would be bliss. (If you love this section of the workout, you might also enjoy YOGASCULPT.)
Saturday (Cardio & Upper Body Strength): Again, you start with an aerobics routine. You will notice the "swimming" from a workout she did with Elle Macpherson in "Your Personal Best." Karen definitely seems to have a lot of "signature moves" which make her routines easier to do in the long run. Your body knows how it is supposed to move and it is very satisfying to find moves you have learned in other Voight workouts. Karen is quite creative and always seems to be in a state of constant change because she makes up new moves in addition to the old ones, so you really have to focus. Her workouts are as much for the mind as the body. Cardio Circuit Energy Boost is followed by the weight workout you did on Thursday.
Sunday (Yoga Stretch): I started with this routine. It has a nice flow and there are plenty of creative poses. The stretches do seem designed for the very slim as there are some poses in which you literally twist yourself into a pretzel. Never fear, there are only a few of those poses and you can work your way to that level of flexibility.
Tools: hand weights, yoga mat, two blocks and optional foot stool.
Karen presents each workout in a no-nonsense style. She gets right to working out. So, have all your equipment ready to go. You won't have time to go find your yoga mat, weights or block once you start the workout. For the most part, the footwork wasn't too fancy, but there are a few times I just went back to walking until I could figure out the routine. If you are used to aerobic workouts and want a new challenge, Karen will give your mind a workout too. She has a friendly instruction style and a pleasant voice.
Karen Voight has always been an inspiration to me. Her workouts really motivate me. If you enjoy this workout, you might also want to try: Ultimate Circuit Training. It also has B.L.T. on a ball workout, so you don't have to buy the additional DVD.
"Sleek Physique" is a fun DVD to use every now and then for a complete week. It gives you a break from trying to figure out which workout you are supposed to be doing. Karen does the organizing for you. This is perfect to take with you on vacation so you don't get out of your workout routine.
This DVD has previews of other workouts and links to Karen's
website so you can purchase exercise equipment. Throughout this workout, Karen has a workout partner.

Billy Blanks' Tae Bo: Fat Blasting Cardio & Total Body Fat Blaster Review

Billy Blanks' Tae Bo: Fat Blasting Cardio and Total Body Fat Blaster
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's rare to find a DVD that provides a good solid 45 minutes of cardio exercise. Typically they are stop-again-start-again kind of things, not able to raise the heart rate.
I have been doing the Fat Blasting Cardio DVD for a couple of months now and still cannot complete all the reps while wearing the Billy Bands. My heart rate stays in a good zone for the entire workout. I feel that during the winter, when I cannot run because my asthma is aggravated by the cold, this DVD is my best cardio option. I have not tried the Total Body Fat Blaster.
One problem with Tae Bo is that if you've never had experience with either Tae Bo, kickboxing, or some form of Martial Art, you will have trouble mimicking the form you see on the DVD. This is a good way to get an injury early in the process of learning, which can be frustrating. I recommend a small amount of instruction on proper form while kicking, and don't be afraid to start out doing slower reps than you see on the DVD. I would say that it's pretty easy to blow the knee of your standing foot if you try to do more than your body is capable of. Also, unless you have a good deal of upper body strength, it is wise to do the workout without the Billy Bands until you feel confident. Believe me, it's still plenty cardio.

Leslie Sansone - Walk the Walk 3-DVD Set (Miracle Mile / Two Mile Walk / Weight Loss Walk 4 Miles)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My sister recomended these DVDs to me a few months ago. She has four kids currently-all in the space of just under six years. When I saw her last, she had lost SIXTY pounds just doing these DVDs a couple of times a week. I just had my second child, and after a dibilitating car accident, well needless to say, I need to loose a lot of weight. So I decided to try these DVDs. I have had them a little over a week and have done both the one mile and the two mile-infact I just finished the two mile a few minutes ago. They are great! They are very low impact-I have bad knees from the car accident, and a plate in my left arm, also from the accident, and I can do the two mile without any pain in my knees, and I can do push ups which I haven't done in almost four years! They are fun and easy, and I can tell already that I am loosing weight. It only takes a half hour to do the two mile, which I can still do with two kids. I also like this because I am so much overweight, I can do this in the comfort of my own living room, without the uncomfortable stares of other people at the gym or the track. Also, you can move around up and back, side to side, but you don't have to. It is very flexable. Currently I am living in a hotel room in MS while my husband is in Air Force training, and I can do it easily in my 12x9 hotel room. I highly recomend this to anyone who will listen ... So buy and enjoy!

Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds - Walk and Jog Review

Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds - Walk and Jog
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I tried this workout for the first time today and absolutely love it. I've used Leslie's 2 mile video and wanted something new to add some variety to my exercise. However, I wasn't ready for a longer workout like the 3 mile. This workout is still only 30 minutes, but is a little more intense than her 2 mile walk with intervals of jogging. There are other fun moves as well that keep the workout interesting. As a lifelong couch potato I never imagined myself jogging, but it was easy interspersed with the walking. I've never really enjoyed exercise and I usually watch the clock to figure out when the workout's going to be over, but at the end of this one I was actually having so much fun I wished it would last a little longer. I highly recommend this DVD.

Kathy Smith - Aerobox Workout (1994) Review

Kathy Smith - Aerobox Workout (1994)
Average Reviews:

I have to admit - when I first bought this video when it first came out in 1994 - I did it once and placed it back on to my video shelf. I didn't do it again until four years later. By that time I've develop a somewhat of a regular workout routine. (I try to workout regularly - try to, at least)
This video came out pre-Tae Bo and find this more effective and well-designed. It's a tough workout. Not even Kathy is in the later segements led by veteran boxer, Michael Olajide. The first time I did it after so many years, I ached the next day. But a good ache. My muscles woke up. I personally, dislike most aerobic routines out there and am always reluctant to do much-needed cardio workouts. This workout is fun and different. You'll feel energize once getting into the routine. As always, Kathy makes sure you understand and know correct form before doing the workout. But the workout is pretty much not lead by Kathy. She knows that Michael is the main developer of the routine and knows what he's doing as he takes the lead.
If you're not quite up to this, try Kathy's new Kickboxing workout. I don't like it as much as this one except for the actual kickboxing segement. But overall, that the Kickboxing video follows a more reliable routine. Aerobox is just more well-produced.

Tracy Anderson Beginner Dance Cardio Review

Tracy Anderson Beginner Dance Cardio
Average Reviews:

This is truly a fantastic video if you are not a dancer but want to try the infamous Tracy Anderson Method. It is NOT a low-impact video at all but Tracy does mention that you can move at a pace/ability more suited to you. This will not be for everyone but if you are serious about getting a long, lean, tight body you can't go wrong here. I like this video in particular because the moves are simple and a little more athletic-like. Tracy Anderson's first Dance Cardio DVD was so intimidating that I couldn't get past the first routine. Also, many instructors are presented in this video and they all teach some sort of choreography so if you don't like one instructor or dance then you can always skip ahead to a different routine. Definitely a great buy.
