Dance a GoGo : Sexy Nightclub Workout Review

Dance a GoGo : Sexy Nightclub Workout
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have bought so many workout DVDs, and this is by far THE BEST I have ever bought because it has EVERYTHING a workout video needs. It has step-by-step instructions for each of the workouts. The dance music is hip and great. The dances are sexy and fun. In addition, the workouts here require you to move ALL OF YOUR BODY and keep your heart rate at the target zone AT ALL TIME!! You can tell that they actually spent a lot of time choreographing the dances and making this DVD. Everything is done by the very professionals instead of just some sexy/party girls dancing together in a basement. I am sure that many of you who have bought many workout videos will know what I am talking about. Most of the weight loss workouts are not fun or sexy, and most of the sexy workouts won't speed up your heart rate enough to lose weight. If you want a dance workout DVD with everything: that is fun, hip, and sexy; has nice music; teaches you how to dance; and helps you lose weight; this is the number one DVD that I will recommend. I think Andrea needs to put out more dance/workout DVDs.

It is unique in that it uses nightclub and music video-style routines to craft a workout. Unlike the start/stop style of other DVDs, Dance a GoGo is continuous and teaches the viewer as she exercises.Femininity, empowerment and strength are at the core of the Dance a GoGo ethos, and it was designed exclusively with a female audience in mind. However, Dance a GoGo, is also about bringing out the consumer's latent sex appeal in a positive and healthy way. This broadens the appeal to include the boyfriends and husbands of the intended market as well.Dance a GoGo is packed with original choreography and easy to follow instructions, but it is defined by its attitude. Andrea Lin's dance routines and screen presence do more than just entertain and instruct. She has imbued the DVD with a philosophy and a positive outlook that speak directly to the viewer's sense of self and womanhood. This stimulates a unique connection to the material that builds a brand and a long-term relationship between the market and the product.

Richard Simmons and the Silver Foxes Review

Richard Simmons and the Silver Foxes
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First, Simmons wears a sweat suit, much better than the tank top and shorts of his other stuff. The pace isn't so fast that you can't figure out what's going on or keep up. If you haven't worked out in a while, it's a way to get moving again. It gets the pulse up but isn't so bad that you think you are going to die. Also none of this no pain no gain and feel the burn nonsense. The excerise part is about 40 minutes, including 20 of cardio. You should know (cause these things never tell you) that you should have at least 8 by 8 feet of room. You can do it in less if you take small steps. You also need a tall back chair with no sides. Although I made do with a sort of tall back office chair with arms. I was pleased that I didn't aggravate my chronic shoulder and back problems.

Billy Blanks - All New Tae Bo Boot Camp Elite (2006) Review

Billy Blanks - All New Tae Bo Boot Camp Elite (2006)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I started out as recommended, with Mission One, which is a primer to Mission Two- you mostly just get the basic moves down and start working with the 'Billy Bands'. The Billy Bands can be awkward, even though they do seem to intensify the workout by a lot. Mission Two is tough! I thought I was in great shape. I work out on a regular basis at the gym and at home, and I am having a hard time keeping up. I am going to keep trying this and I am following the training schedule suggested. The only problems with this program are: 1) Billy can be pretty corny, and he sort of tries to give really poorly rehearsed pep talks at the end of each DVD- I think he should add more cool down and stretches instead. 2) The Billy Bands can be tricky. I adjusted them to be shorter for Mission One but for Mission Two I had to let the tension back out again because there is absolutely no way you can do Mission Two with too much tension in the bands. Even Billy has technical difficulties on the DVD with his bands. 3) The workout is so hard that you can't realistically do all of the sets without losing good form and so I find that I am getting some strain in my neck and my back- two places that you really shouldn't feel your workout. I am going to keep at it though because I have seen a difference, mostly in my upper body and abs. I have done other Billy Blanks videos and I think he goes too fast to maintain form a lot of times, but I understand that he probably does that to increase your heart rate. 4) Mission Two really works your upper body and upper abs, but there isn't as much concentration on the lower body and lower abs. I have yet to attempt Mission Three which concentrates on the abs, so I am sure that I will get a lower ab workout there. I think I am going to purchase his leg workout to try to round out the whole experience. All in all it's not bad, but I think it's a little too advanced for people who are just starting an exercise program. I am not positive I would purchase this again.

Quick Fix - Stability Ball Workout Review

Quick Fix - Stability Ball Workout
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These workouts are fast and effective. They are only for toning, so I usually add one or two to a cardio workout. There are many creative uses of the stability ball in all of these workouts, and the instructor moves through the exercises quickly and gets a lot done in 10 minutes. The upper body segments requires heavy and light weights thought I found using five pound weights for both effective especially the first few times. Some of the exercises are difficult the first time, but there are alternatives for beginners. A lot of the exercises in all the workouts require good balance and core stability.

SWAT Workout: Extreme Weight Loss and Fat Burning Review

SWAT Workout: Extreme Weight Loss and Fat Burning
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The SWAT Workout is led by Tom Stroup, an actual SWAT commander. He has a great personality and a good rapport with the background exercisers. This is an interval workout. It consists of running in place, jumping jacks, "SWAT" thrusts, mountain climbers, boxers and other drils with the SWAT march between each drill to allow your heart rate to come down. It's a good workout for burning fat, increasing endurance and agility. I love drill type workouts, but even if it's not your thing, Tom's personality makes it fun. The SWAT workout isn't such a killer workout that it has a huge dread factor, but it isn't a walk in the park either. It can be modified for a beginner, but an experienced exerciser can get a good workout too.
Here is breakdown of the chapters:
EXTREME WEIGHT LOSS AND FAT BURNING (body weight only)
Chapter one- warm up- 9:30 MINUTES
Chapter two- SWAT fat burning workout - 30 MINUTES
Chapter three- BONUS-6 pack ABS in 6 minutes
Chapter four- cool down - 8:49 MINUTES
If you're short on time, the 30 minute fat burning makes a great stand alone workout. All you really need to add is a quick stretch at the end.

Fat to Firm Fitness Ball Workout for Dummies Review

Fat to Firm Fitness Ball Workout for Dummies
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the first 'for dummies' workout that I have bought and I really like it. It's a good dvd if you haven't done a ball workout before. You focus on stability and balance and building up your core strength. But because you use weights too, you also get good toning for the whole body. They use your regular overhead presses and ab work too. She gives you optional moves if you want to make it harder or easier and tells you what not to do wrong.
Don't be fooled by thinking you can't get a good workout from a stability ball. You will totally feel this the next day and you will be surprised with exactly how many muscles you in fact worked. I really like this a lot.

Viniyoga Therapy for the Upper Back, Neck & Shoulders with Gary Kraftsow (2009) Review

Viniyoga Therapy for the Upper Back, Neck and Shoulders with Gary Kraftsow (2009)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Because I sit at a computer all day, I struggle with neck and shoulder issues. Now that I've picked up my weight training routine again, those issues are only being amplified. Happily, I have this DVD in my therapy stockpile. It's the only DVD I've tried which addresses neck and shoulder issues exclusively.
I like the fact that this DVD offers slow-moving yoga postures rather than sun salutations ad nauseum. While this is definitely a yoga dvd, the routines are more along the line of gentle stretching than a fast-moving "flow" practice. However, don't equate "gentle" with "ineffective." Hardly!!! This is the * most * effective neck and shoulder DVD I've done so far. I tried another, far more strenuous neck and shoulder yoga "workout" DVD which did not address the neck and shoulder area nearly as well as this gentle Viniyoga Therapy DVD. This DVD relaxes, loosens and strengthens the neck and shoulder area like no other yoga/stretch DVD I own. The fact that there are three 20 to 38-minute routines to choose from, that it is very effective, and that it has absolutely no "dread" factor for me, gives me the feeling that this DVD is going to be one of my most-used, "valuable player" workout DVDs of the year.... This DVD is appropriate for all levels: beginners, intermediates, advanced. However, understand that this is strictly a "therapeutic" yoga DVD addressing neck and shoulder issues. If you are looking for a traditional yoga workout with downward facing dog, etc., you are going to be disappointed.
Voiceover instruction with someone demonstrating the postures, so there's nothing sexy here, but the production values were very good. The best thing I've found so far for my neck and shoulder issues outside of Jeff Primack's qigong DVD.

The Complete Beginner's Guide to Knitting Review

The Complete Beginner's Guide to Knitting
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I LOVE this DVD! I've looked at books, online instruction, and even had a family member try to teach me. None of those methods worked for me. The way Nici goes about teaching is like having a friend come over to give instructions. She is very clear and goes slowly. The DVD pauses in places so you can go ahead and then press play when you are ready. She teaches two methods, English and Continental. We chose Continental. I found out why my family member could not teach me.......she does English, and I'm all thumbs that way. So having both shown gives you the ability to select which works best for you. The only thing for a beginner that I found difficult was casting on. The DVD shows 3 ways of slip knotting to start, but does not show where the tail should go....front or back? My mom came over to show us - after casting on the tail goes in the front. This is where you will be using the yarn from the cast on your first 10 loops.....when you turn the needle around as you switch hands, your tail will be in the back where it needs to be. I know that sounds simple, but for a beginner it was a conundrum!! If the tail is in the front, you run out of yarn! Other than that tiny detail....every detail for knitting and purling is covered well!! There are close up angles and it is show "over the shoulder" so you are not watching her knit and then try to reverse it. If you want to learn to knit......buy this DVD...within a short while you'll be knitting away!
Nici covers the following:
Casting on - how to get started
the knit stitch - continental or english
The purl stitch - continental or english
add yarn - if you run out or want to add a color etc..
binding off - how to end
ribbing - how to knit and purl on the same row
increasing - adding stitches
decreasing - taking away stitches
gauge - how many stitches per inch to get the right size
finishing - sewing pieces together
first aid kit - HELP for mistakes
tips and advice - tips and advice :)
She also has a website, [....]. And there are other DVDs only I've not found them on Amazon??

Kari Anderson: Go - Step Workout for Beginners (2005) Review

Kari Anderson: Go - Step Workout for Beginners (2005)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is only the second workout I have tried by Kari Anderson, who is known for more complex and dancy choreography. She has come up with a great step workout for beginners and intermediates. I would consider myself a solid intermediate in step who simply prefers easier choreography, doesn't want to have to think too hard and just wants to step and burn fat. While the choreography is simple, I wouldn't call it super basic, therefore it is enough to keep beginners/intermediate steppers interested and not bored once their fitness levels increase. Kari is joined by 6 of her students, 2 of them on the right side of the room show easier modifications, whether it be performing some moves on the floor or leaving some of the trickier moves out.
There are 4 segments to the workout, a 5 minute warmup performed mostly on the floor but the step is utilized a little bit. Then you move into the first segment which is 15 minutes, some of the moves you will see here are corner to corner kicks and knee lifts, basic steps, walking around the step, repeaters, hamstring curls, straddles, side leg lifts and stomps.
Segment 2 is also 15 minutes long and slightly more complex, but still easy to pick up. Here you will see more basic steps, alternating knees, T squats w/side leg lifts, V steps, around the world, mambos, corner knees, inner thigh lifts, front back front repeaters, turn steps, turn shuffles, over the tops and rocking horses. Then it's on to the 10 minute cooldown and stretch again which uses the step a little bit.
Kari does a great job choreographing these routines, they are simple and easy to follow thanks to her great cueing. The music selected is very good and fits the workout well. Kari is an excellent instructor, she is encouraging, offers options to increase or decrease the intensity and is good about interacting with her students to make the workout fun for them too. I get the impression that her live classes are a lot of fun, she seems like a very caring and personable individual.
I would recommend this to anyone looking for step workouts with simpler choreography. While it's labeled for beginners and it is fairly simple I still get a great workout from it. Great effort from Kari.

The Warlords (2010) Review

The Warlords (2010)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Jet Li as a villain is quite a remarkable piece of casting, and everyone really holds their own in this action epic set in 1860s China. The title in English is Warlords but in Chinese it was Blood Brothers, and features three men who are doing their best to survive in a wartorn land.
Jet Li, a great general in the Imperial army, is betrayed and the only man in his army to survive. His resurrection from the dead is both fascinating and appalling to watch as his desire for power obliterates all before him. Andy Lau gives the performance of a lifetime as the head of a band of brigands, who first follows Jet Li but later becomes disaffected by what he sees and tries to turn back from the collision course the ambitious general has set them all on.
Takeshi Kaneshiro as the youngest of the three strong male leads is remarkable in terms of both his battle prowess and how loyal he is to both men, until he is forced to choose sides. Complicating matters still further is the fact that Li's character unintentionally fell in love with a woman on the road, who turns out to be the wife of Lau's character. The inevitable ending is anything but as each man meets his fate.
The action and battle sequences, music, costume, and above all, the depiction of warfare at the time, including trench warfare, makes this an Asian All Quiet on the Western Front, where there is no glory for anyone, only more bloodshed for the sake of ruthless territorial ambitions. I have watched it several times now, with a variety of friends, and everyone LOVED it, even as they were completely shocked by it. If you like action films, there is plenty to recommend Warlords, but the sheer depth of this epic is remarkable. This is a GREAT film in the true sense of the word.

Set in the midst of the Taiping Rebellion of the 1860s, THE WARLORDS stars Jet Li as General Pang, who barely survives a brutal massacre of his fellow soldiers by playing dead, and then joins a band of bandits led by Er Hu (Andy Lau) and Wu Yang (Takeshi Kaneshiro). After fighting back attackers for a defenseless village, the three men take an oath to become "blood brothers," pledging loyalty to one another until death. However, their lives quickly derail as they become embroiled in a web of political deceit and a love triangle between Pang, Er Hu and a beautiful courtesan (Xu Jinglei).

Billy Blanks' Tae-Bo Cardio Review

Billy Blanks' Tae-Bo Cardio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Tae Bo Cardio is probably the best Tae Bo workout DVD I've done thus far - and having done the classic, live, and get ripped series, that's saying something.
What makes this Tae Bo DVD such a great buy is the greater attention to proper warm-up and cool-down, including ramping up the exercises gradually, instead of throwing you immediately into high-intensity moves that could cause injury or strain. There's also more of a focus on even movements, more attention paid to proper form, and of course, Billy Blanks's motivational speaking to keep you focused on the workout.
It is true that the music is somewhat repetitive (it's a simple hiphop track), but it's simple to fix by turning down the volume and playing your own music. The other benefit of this particular soundtrack is a certain consistency lacking with the other Tae Bo videos.
Billy Blanks, unfortunately, still has trouble making calls for the television audience, so you have to reverse the cues if you want to mirror the workout on screen. Also, if you're looking for an extremely intense workout, you won't find it here, unless you're a beginner (in which case, it will be intense).
This 40-minute workout is great for a beginner or intermediate exerciser. For the beginner, it will provide a challenging yet balanced cardio workout. For the intermediate level, it will provide a solid workout that will leave you sweating, but not winded. For advanced exercisers, you might want to skip it, but I'd still recommend it as a great, easy workout for you. If you're intermediate-advanced and you want a really good kickboxing-based workout, try the Elite Forces DVDs.
The bottom line with this DVD is, you'll get out of it what you put into it. If you put in a lot of energy and movement, flexing your muscles and really putting your heart and focus into it, you will really sweat and have a great time. Like any other workout video, if you just go through the motions, you'll only get a certain amount out of it, and will likely be bored with the soundtrack and annoyed by other less-than-perfect elements (like the directionally-challenged cues).

The Biggest Loser: The Workout - Weight Loss Yoga (2008) Review

The Biggest Loser: The Workout - Weight Loss Yoga (2008)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Great Yoga DVD, especially for those new to yoga. I've had a good handful of yoga classes and my husband's had a few. We both really benefit from Bob's instruction, particularly on form. It's one thing to say, "keep your back straight," or "make sure you watch your form," but Bob instructs as if you've never had a yoga class in your life, which is good--both for newbies and those of us who aren't experts yet. He actually shows you what good knee alignment looks like. Or tells you how it should feel. I agree with one of the reviewers that it's a little awkward (okay, a lot awkward) to be in a yoga pose and have to look up at the TV, but that's really the same as being in class--I would have to look at an instructor to see what's going on sometimes--but after a week or two of doing this, you get the hang of it and know what to do.
The BEST part of the Biggest Loser videos are the interactive menus so you can select what kind of workout you want to do. What an AWESOME idea! Finally! Someone helps me cut out the stuff I don't need or let's me build a longer workout and it plays exactly how I selected it.
And hey, if you're a dude, you'll like this because Bob leads the session. It's not just for girls. (And not just for skinny girls either.) Besides, there's none of that swirly yoga-ish, indian flute music with perfectly carved bodies flawlessly moving from pose to pose. It's basic instruction (with light background music), and you see the other participants (past BL contestants) make mistakes along the way just like most of us do when we're taking a yoga class. So what if you put your right leg in the air when everyone else puts up their left. That's what I love about this DVD! While I'm sure they spent a lot of "takes" shooting the DVD, they didn't aim for absolute perfection. Hey, life isn't perfect and I've yet to have a perfect yoga class. The fact that I got my tail out of bed to even do this each morning is as much perfect I can expect right now.
Yes, there's a lot of "plank," which is actually good for weight loss yoga. I have to admit that my arms were killing me during a lot of the warrior 2 poses, but I turned to my husband and said, "Just think, in a couple of weeks this will be so much easier for us!"
ps: Bob's Biggest Loser Boot Camp is fun too!
