This DVD is awesome. Andrea Lin is a dancer from Taiwan. She has been dancing her entire life. In this dvd she decided to combine dance lessons with a heart pumping workout. With this dvd you can expect to sweat as well as get some great dance moves that you can take with you to the dance club. This dvd is a great confidence booster. Give it a shot. You won't be disappointed.

After a rocky start this is now my favorite cardio video and I have tried too many to count. Please don't feel discouraged by the jive in the first segment. That is by far the trickiest to get down but not impossible. The choreography is AMAZING. The steps SEEM simple but they make you feel like a professional dancer. I love that they are challenging but that the steps repeat in a pattern so a regular person can follow along. I did the video twice before adding my own music with the video on mute. This makes the video SO great and different than others - the steps stay the same but the music can change as often as you like. This difference is key. I can't dance to music that is boring so being able to have simple steps that repeat is really a revelation to me. I also appreciate that there are not too many traveling steps...for those of us that live in small apartments. Lisa won me over with her personality that is so warm and friendly. There is a great group of pro dancers who put there own spin on the steps. I did this video with my teenage niece and she loved it too (we both were chanting "single, single, double on the same side" Thanks for making these great workouts. I am a convert and can't wait until more come out!!!

Jamie King- Rock Your Body Review

Jamie King- Rock Your Body
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this DVD after reading that it was Shape magazine's DVD of the month, and I just finished my second time doing it. Overall, it's a great workout that is a lot of fun!
Jamie King leads the workout, and he is accompanied by four back-up dancers. Jaime has a lot of energy, and makes the workout fly by, which is always nice. The workout is broken down into six main sections: a warm-up, rehearsal 1, rehearsal 2, dress rehearsal (where you put the two sections together slowly), the performance (where you put the two sections together more quickly in front of an "audience"), and a cool down.
In each of the two rehearsal sections, Jamie breaks down the choreography and makes it very esay to follow. If you can't get a move, though, a great feature of the DVD is that in several places you can click on a sub-menu and go to the bonus section where Jamie breaks down the move even more slowly.
One of the things that makes this workout so unique is that the workout is done on a stage with a DJ playing music. During the dress rehearsal and performance sections, the dancers and Jamie also change into "costumes" and even do the routine in front of a live audience. It really feels like you're a rock star while doing these sections of the workout!
The DVD also has a bonus strength section and a section where Jamie breaks down the moves in more detail. The first time I did this workout, I couldn't quite keep up with the nuances of the moves, but I can see progress and I can also see that I won't be bored with this DVD in the future.
The last thing I wanted to say is that I was pleasantly surprised about how this workout got my heart rate up. It's true that there are much harder cardio dance workouts out there, but I was definitely breaking a sweat -- and having fun while doing it! Overall, it's a fun, very unique workout!

Quickfix - Cardio Hip-Hop Workout Review

This video is very fun and keeps up my heartrate. It might be a little difficult for people with "two left feet" or who haven't done much dancing or aerobics. The instructor was great and I thought she broke it down well, not so slow that your heartrate went down, but not to fast to get lost. I highly recommend this tape if you love dancing and want a good workout!

Fame: Dance Workout Review

Fame: Dance Workout
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It must be rough to revive a film franchise that offers no opportunity for mainstream merchandising via toys, lunchboxes, and backpacks. The lack thereof probably torpedoes a good many films that deserve to be made but just aren't "commercially viable" due to a lack of avenues for alternate profit. Take Fame, for example. Back when the original film debuted there was a television spin-off that followed shortly thereafter. With the remake of last year, there are similar talks of an accompanying television series, but there's also a full-court press into a new industry that didn't possess nearly the steam that it does now: direct-to-DVD (or video, back then) workout features. This new incarnation of Fame has done just that, and well, the results are rather ho-hum.
Broken into three distinct parts, the routine is taught by the three main characters (Kristy Flores, Kherington Payne, and Paul McGill) of the new film with varying degrees of success and competency.
The first portion has the best pacing of all, never going too fast or too slow. Yet, the preliminarily well-paced aspect of the DVD makes the successive two thirds seem ridiculously fast and difficult in comparison. It almost begs you to repeat the first section over and over until you feel you've progressed to a certain level of expertise that you're ready for the faster and clearly more difficult second and third parts.
It's not just the speed though. The styles of dance change erratically from one instructor to the next instead of providing a disc with a constant sensibility that gradually increases in speed and difficulty. What we get is three different styles at three different speeds by three different "instructors" with noticeably different levels of patience for instructing an audience they can't see. If changing styles from one section to the next doesn't throw you off, then the speed and technicality disparities will.
There's enough repetition that you should be able to keep up, but don't be surprised (or disappointed) if you have to repeatedly hit rewind so you don't fall hopelessly behind. The DVD's cover is wholly misleading when it tells you that it has "4 Fun Dance Routines" as what it really means is that it has three, and then it puts those three back-to-back to make a "fourth", but who they think they're fooling, I'm not sure. One plus one plus one equals three, last I checked.
They cashed in on the new film's popularity(?) really quickly and churned out this really cynical fitness product, which also takes aim at that market share willing to lay down $10 for an hour-long exercise routine starring their current pop culture idol. Some people enjoy Jillian Michaels barking orders, others prefer the young nubile bodies of a pseudo-hit blockbuster.
You can easily do better than this if you're looking for an at-home dance instructor or a way to shed a few pounds from the comfort of your living room. With that goal though, you have the pick of a shockingly large litter to choose from at your local retailer, so why you'd choose this rather weak Fame-driven product could only be justified if you went absolutely ga-ga for the new film and its youngsters. Otherwise, you'll be smart to avoid it.

Denise Austin: Fat Burning Dance Mix (2006) Review

Denise Austin: Fat Burning Dance Mix (2006)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm not always a fan of Denise Austin; - not because she's not a good instructor (because she's a pretty good instructor), but because she is way too over the top with extra cheesey enthusiasm and she can be too in your face. Not this time however. Sure she is still enthusiastic (I guess you need some personality), but this is better than usuall and it's a great and easy (yet effective) workout.
She also is an instructor that isn't always in sync with the beat of the music, which can be frustrating, but not so much this time. It's a great dvd with four different types of cardio work. You can do them in any order (the dvd lets you programm how you want to do it), and there is ballet toning, Latin, jazz and club funky aerobics. It's nice to have a variation going. In each segment, you start of simply and then slowly add on moves to make a longer combo. Then there is a toning segment that is easy to follow and uses usual kind of moves like crunches, planks and plies etc.
I like this. It's good for days when you want a bit of a lighter workout and if you are a beginner or intermediate. If you are advanced you won't find this enough, but like me, it's good for the days where you can't be bothered with a tough routine. I really enjoy it and if you are normally put off by Denise like I sometimes am, then don't worry, she is less overpowering here, but does an excellent job and you'll have fun with it I'm sure.

For those of you who have seen- or I am sure heard of- the "Quick Fix Hop Hop" by Juliane Arney, you will see the familiarity here (if you do not have that DVD--get it, it is great)!! Juliane is renowned for her dance knowledge and choreograped this DVD, as well as many of the other dance ones you see on the market, including "Crunch" and the "Dance off the Inches" series. If you liked her "Quick Fix" you will love this although it is in no way a repeat of her previous DVD. I work out on the carpet and have no trouble with the swivels, etc, as I just do them more on my toes. I have also noticed that moves that seem nearly impossible to those of us that are not trained dancers amazingly come to us after practice. I never thought I would be "hip hopping" away but thanks to this and the other videos on the market I feel confident in doing it. This is a fun DVD, Kristin Jacobs as the instructor is good, but definitely buy it for the choreography which is fresh and so fun!

The Biggest Loser Workout, Vol. 2 Review

The Biggest Loser Workout, Vol. 2
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I like this even a little more than the first workout. I think it's possible for all levels to gain something from this. You can choose your own personal workout by choosing from the various segments here. Each segment is around 10 to 15 minutes and they all do different things like fat burning, flexibility and toning various muscle groups. Even better, if you are a woman there are segments that focus a lot on abs and thighs. Bob and Kim are enthusiastic and help you along, and it's nice to see real people (former contestants) perform the routines (instead of the always stick thin exercisers).
All you need to get started is a fair bit of room, weights, a stability ball and you can opt to use a medicine ball if you have one. Overall, it's a great workout that is made better by the customisation which I love. I really like it and have found already in the while since I've gotten this, that I'm feeling good. Hope you love it too.

Dancing with the Stars: Latin Cardio Dance Review

Dancing with the Stars: Latin Cardio Dance
Average Reviews:

I found this to be easy to follow, it is dancing, they do show you the moves, and your core DOES get a fantastic workout! Even doing only the warm up, one dance section, and the additional dancers workout at the end got my heart pumping and I was sweating up a storm! I love the fact that you can customize your working out by choosing which segments you want to do and it will play them seamlessly without you having to stop and push buttons!
Now for those with no musicality or rhythm, it may be harder for you to pick up and follow. I suggest just focusing on one segment until you master it. Watch the segment through a couple of times first then follow along and anytime it gets too complicated or you haven't mastered that step yet, just return to the basic step and keep trying till you get it.
And...you can take the steps you learn in this video, get with a partner and actually do them out on a dance floor! So, if you bought this video thinking you'll be able to apply what you learn on the dance floor, you can, but if you aren't a strong dancer and don't pick up choreography quick, try taking lessons from an instructor and use this video for practice.

Denise Austin: Get Fit Daily Dozen (2008)

(More customer reviews)
This DVD is just perfect for me, a mom of three little ones. There are six 12 minute "daily dozens," such as Yoga Stretch and Cardio Kickboxing Burn. There are 12 moves in each daily dozen segment lasting a minute each. I always followed Denise Austin on her Lifetime TV half hour program, but when it was cancelled was at a loss for a short program I could do daily. Now, I pop this DVD in an am able to select one twelve minute workout, or several, lasting longer if I have the time. I would say the workouts are easier than some of her other workout videos, pretty much because once you get tired of one move, she is already onto the next. I would describe myself as a beginner to moderate "work-outer." Denise Austin, as always, is just an absolute sweet and encouraging person: I don't like to work out without her cheering me on! I have so many of her workouts already, and she has been doing this for years and years for a reason!

Dancing with the Stars: Dance Off the Pounds (2009) Review

Dancing with the Stars: Dance Off the Pounds (2009)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
"Dancing with the Stars: Dance off the Pounds" is a workout DVD that was choreographed by Cal Pozo, the choreographer of the other DWTS DVDs as well as the Dancefit series. This was the best of his choreography that I've ever seen, and not only was it fun, but it was extremely cardio. There was no warm-up, therefore the viewer has to either do his own or just let the beginning of the workout act as the warm-up. As opposed to the former DWTS workouts, this DVD's dances are all routines instead of just moves taught. The DVD was divided into the following four parts of the workout:
Swing-Led by Kym Johnson, it is the most basic of all the routines. It includes moves such as the triple step, rock step, kick-ball-changes, sailor step, Charleston, and many more. It has a lot of kicking, and it will really get the heart rate up. Kym is very motivating, but she can be a little too sweet sometimes-almost like she's talking to a child. I really liked this segment.
Jive-Led by Lacey Schwimmer, I found this the most fun of all the routines. Lacey teaches the moves rather quickly and prefers going from the top a lot more than making sure you have the moves. She breaks down one really fast move that I am SO glad she broke down. Moves included are the triple step, kicks, Charleston, heel bop, jump step, and more. Lacey is very chirpy, but she really did say "Good job!" way too many times. This is my favorite segment, though!
Quickstep-Led by Dmitry Chaplin, this was the most challenging of all the routines. The moves were really fast and sometimes hard, but Dmitry broke most of them down really slowly which did make me wonder if my heart rate was going down, as well, but I just do the quickstep segment first and let the beginning low cardio segment count as my warm-up. There is lot of using the floor to move around and there are quite a few jumping steps, as well. Some of the moves included are the box step, pendulums, knee bops, shuffle hops, and many more. Dmitry was the most genuine of all the instructors, but he did have a little bit of difficulty explaining the moves. His jokes made me laugh, though. The most challenging footwork of them all.
Cool-Down-All of the instructors are here for the cooldown, and they each have turns leading you in stretching. Unfortunately, they don't stretch the entire body, they don't have a specific stretch for the calves, neck, glutes, or arms. But it does bring your heart rate down.
Overall, I definitely think it's worth $10, and it is most definitely better than "Cardio Dance" or "Latin Cardio Dance." Get it if you are a fan of the show, or if you want a great, old-school, cardio workout. Beware, though, if you are a beginner, you might not get the steps right away.

10 Minute Solution: Fat Blasting Dance Mix (2006) Review

10 Minute Solution: Fat Blasting Dance Mix (2006)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I wasn't sure whether I would like this workout--as I've become a more advanced exerciser, I've tended to move away from exercise DVDs which offer short segments, as I have found that these usually aren't intense enough to provide me with a good workout. Therefore, I was pleasantly suprrised upon trying Fat Blasting Dance Mix a discovering that my heart rate was in my target fat-burning zone for nearly the entire workout! Plus, the moves were fun and relatively easy to pick up after a few times through.
Overall, this video reminded me a bit of Dance Off the Inches: Calorie Blasting Party. Instructor Jennifer Galardi is a bit similar in style to the instructor from that video, although more low-key, which I prefer. Also, rather than teaching the moves at three different tempos as in the Dance Off series (which I didn't like because it causes my heart rate to drop), Jennifer teaches by building on different aspects of each move. For example, first she'll teach you a simple leg move such as a step out, then she'll incorporate a bit more of a dancey feel, and finally, she'll add arms to complete the exercise. In each of the five segments, she teaches the moves in an add-on style, eventually taking it from the top so that you can run through the entire sequence (but because each segment is short and there are only five or so total moves, it never feels like the combinations are overly long).
One of the best things about this DVD is that it is programmable--ie, there is a menu which allows you to mix and match any of the five segments to create your own customized workout, which I loved. Three of the segments are cardio-focused--Simple Slimmer, Calorie Meltdown, Fat Blasting Party--while the last two are more toning-oriented--Butt & Thigh Blaster, Ab Attack--although still intense enough to produce a cardio effect. The cardio segments gradually get more intense, with SS containing the most basic moves, CM taking it up a notch, and FBP adding a bit more impact with some hops and jumps. Both toning segments were performed entirely in a standing position, pairing some traditional strength training moves (eg, lunges, crunches) with dancey choreography, which I found to be fun and different.
I enjoyed this video, especially the programmable aspect and the unique, dancey toning segments. I would definitely recommend this DVD to anyone who enjoys dance workouts and who is able to pick up choreography with a slightly-beyond-basic complexity level.
Update 12/11/06: The more I use this video, the more I like it! It's one of the only dance videos I've ever owned which gets my heart rate up quickly and keeps it there. I find myself mixing and matching the various segments often. If I could change my rating to 5 stars, I would--very highly recommended!

Dancing With the Stars - Cardio Dance (2006)
Average Reviews:

I had high hopes for this video; too high, perhaps. As another reviewer stated, the moves do go pretty fast after Maksim's part. My biggest problem is that there are no real explainations or instructions of the steps, the instructors just say, we're going to do this now, toss in a dance term, and then they do it. I had such a hard time trying to figure out what the steps were by the time I sort of figured it out they had moved on. This workout would probably be a good workout, provided you understand the moves and can execute them at the speed the dancers on the video can. I found it to be too frustrating and will have to be desperate for some exercise before I pop this in the DVD player again.

Envy Girls - Workouts for the Spots That Really Count Review

Envy Girls - Workouts for the Spots That Really Count

I bought "ENVYGirls" hesitantly. I had previously been dupped into purchasing Carmen Electra's "Aerobic Striptease" DVD (from the same producers) expecting a fun but somewhat effective workout, and have never forgiven myself since! Nonetheless, the reviews that I read on Amazon convinced me to take a chance on this one. And I am happy to say that I made the right decision!
This DVD is without doubt one of my favorite toning workouts. Period.
First off, as evidenced by the packaging, the production is first-rate. It is as clear and well-edited as any major Hollywood production, and the absolutely gorgeous island setting (South Pacific?? Carribean??) inspires me to work out even harder. You can practically feel the breeze coming off the ocean! :-) The music is GREAT, hip and modern; I love it! It's so refreshing to actually work out to a good soundtrack instead of the generic dance club beat that is so prevalent in exercise videos.
The entire concept of "ENVYGirls" is that of a "superteam of fitness" (their words, not mine), each one with a particularly good body part. Each girl then leads you through a 15-20 minute workout to help you get that particularly good body part. The parts are: Abs, Buns, Legs and Arms. There is an optional 4-min. warmup (it is the same on all four programs) and 5-min. express workouts for each program.
Make no mistake, this is not just an eye candy DVD a la Carmen Electra. It actually is a pretty effective strength workout. The moves are designed by celebrity trainer Michael Carson who is very knowledgable and inspiring but not drill sergeant-like (if you've ever seen "The Biggest Loser," think Bob, not Jillian!). Michael does a voiceover commentary on the warmup (as I preceeded this workout with cardio, I never really used the warmup) as well as a Trainer's Tips interview for each workout in which he guides you through correct form of some of the trickier exercises. Also, don't miss the Trainer Commentary Option on which you can have Michael give a voice over on both the Primary Workout and the 5 Min. Workout. He has a lot of important things to say, and don't worry, the music is still loud, and there is a repetition countdown on the screen, so you'll know how many reps you have left in a particular move!
ABS OF ENVY - My personal favorite! I still pull this one out from time to time, and I've owned this for over a year. When I initially viewed this program, I was skeptical because there are only a few crunches towards the end. However, when I did it, it was challenging, I broke a sweat, and when I went to stretch my abs at the end, they burned quite a bit! It utilizes a lot of standing abs moves, but if you concentrate on using your abs, your belly will become sculpted and flat and your waist will be cinched, giving you that hourglass effect. Done almost entirely standing with a few minutes of floorwork.
BUNS OF ENVY - Uses various squats (love that Helicopter Squat!), Lunges, Reverse Lunges (called dips in The Firm) and other moves to effectively shape your glutes and thighs. Done mostly standing with some floorwork about three-quarters into the workout.
LEGS OF ENVY - Uses lunges, plies, plyo jumps and even balance moves to give you shapely thighs and calves. Done entirely standing with stretching on the floor at the very end.
ARMS OF ENVY - Uses bicep curls, hammer curls and some fun, creative moves such as the Dumbbell Catch and the Gecko Pushup to work your upper body. Done mostly standing with some push-up variations and floor tricep work towards the end.
And Now For The Bad: The only real detriments that I could find: One- The packaging of the DVDs. Yes, plural. All four programs, unnecessarily, are recorded onto 4 separate DVDs. For anyone who wished to combine workouts, it can be quite annoying to have to switch DVDs and then sit through minutes of exercise advisement/legal jargon/Lionsgate material. Two-The repetiveness of the exercises. Though I found the exercises different and fun, each program actually contains about 7 minutes of moves that are repeated at least once halfway through. Depending on your attention span and the frequency with which you use this DVD, you may get bored quickly.
Three- The girls themselves. Though I found them pleasant enough, it is obvious that these girls are not fitness professionals and were simply cast due to their looks. Some viewers may find them a little Playboy-bunny-esque and not interesting. I simply was inspired to attain their physiques! If they bother you, you could always choose the voiceover option by Michael , who IS a fitness professional, and a charismatic one at that.
All in all, I highly recommend this DVD and don't think anyone who wants a great body will be dissapointed.

I have to admit I have never cared for Michelle's workouts in the past. But, I love the For Dummies workouts so I decided I'd give this a chance. What a pleasant surprise! I love it! It is broken down into 2 sections. You can do one or both. Michelle is easy to follow and cues well. The music is good but not overbearing. I enjoy the tips presented in the dummies workouts. Michelle has just the right amount of enthusiasm and fun in this workout and it did get my heartrate up there. It will be a fun workout for a day when I want to move and do something but don't feel like killing myself. It's a keeper.

Sabrina Bryan: Byou - The Hot New Dance Workout (2005) Review

Sabrina Bryan: Byou - The Hot New Dance Workout (2005)

I bought this DVD so my daughter and I could dance along together and get some exercise -- however it is far too difficult for a young person to follow, and get this -- even with my many years of dance training, it was too difficult for ME to follow! The moves are NEVER broken down by count, and the instruction is incredibly poor. Virtually every dance class I've ever taken - including Master classes - broke down moves by count, so you can be on time, "on" the music. Not so here.It felt muddled and confusing. Additionally, in the "instruction" segment, the moves are shown just once, from one angle, so if you aren't already familiar with the move shown, the guidance is inadequate.
It gets the two stars only for its appeal to teens & tweens, an underserved group when it comes to mixing exercise and fun.I'd like to see more dance/exercise videos for this age group, but PRODUCED BETTER.

Dance Fitness for Beginners with MaDonna Grimes: Urban Street Heat Review

Dance Fitness for Beginners with MaDonna Grimes: Urban Street Heat

If you're looking for a workout that is so much fun that the time just flies by, look no further! This workout combines innovative choreography and a fast pace to get the heart pumping before you know it.
Here's what you get:
10MIN WARMUP - This combines a few low impact dance moves with a few stretches. Some of the stretches are a bit 'hmmm...', but you only do them after you're VERY warm. This is around 10 minutes, which is a good length for a warmup. Some of the moves you learn in the warmup will be re-used in the dance portion of the workout.
15MIN DANCE - Madonna teaches you the moves one by one, building together a longer routine. One thing that I love about her teaching is that once she's taught you a move, she practices what I like to call 'the transition'. This is where you practice the move that comes just before the new move, as well as the new move. If that doesn't make sense, say that she's taught moves 1-3 and is teaching you the 4th move. Once she's taught the 4th move, she practices moves 3 and 4, before going through the whole routine from the 1st move. This Hip-Hop combination includes some innovative steps, like 'The Snake', 'The Electric Slide', 'The Wobble', 'Lockdown', and so on.
5MIN COOL DOWN - Here, Madonna takes you through some of the stretches that you did in the warmup, as well as some neck stretches - some people will need to be careful with these.
10MIN BONUS - This is not a urban-street dance segment, but rather a set of intense tonin moves. She takes you through around 3 minutes of squats & lunges, done at such a pace that it BURRRRRRRRRRNS! She then goes through some standing and floor abdominal work. The standing work includes possibly some of the most effective oblique exercises I've seen without putting pressure on the neck & back.
Madonna and her group of exercisers - both male and female - exercise in a nice street-dance-studio-esque set. If that doesn't set the scene, the floors are polished wood, and the walls are dark red brick, with pillars and windows scattered throughout. It kind of reminds of the old Ricki Lake sets (back in the day!).
In terms of instructor personality, Madonna is a breath of fresh air. She is relaxed, laid back, and interacts with the other exercisers in a 'hey-wassup-mate' manner. In addition, they also interact with her the same way - giving a fun atmosphere; like being in a class, but not an extreme 'whoop-it-up' atmosphere like in Kathy Smith's Timesaver Cardio. She says things like "Dis mah mama's daynce!", "I'm wi-choo, aight?" and "C'mon y'all!" That certainly is refreshing compared to "Smile, you're burning fat!" [Denise Austin], "Two more please!" [Tamilee Webb], and "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!" [Kathy Smith]
For those of you who are absolute beginners to dance, you will find this difficult. What I suggest you do is ignore the arm movements for the first couple of times that you try the DVD, and focus on the getting your legs right. Madonna moves through the moves pretty quickly, only giving a couple of opportunities to learn the steps before incorporating them into the routine. She is good at cueing, but not so good at teaching the moves.
One thing you need to watch out for is that some of the turns and pivots might put pressure on your knees if you're working out on carpet. I knew this before I did this workout since Juliane Arney warned me in QuickFix's Cardio Hip Hop DVD, but Madonna doesn't mention this in her DVD. Just eliminate any turns and pivots if your knees are dodgy. Also, go easy on the head swinging during 'The Snake' move, it could be quite easy to click your neck out if you don't be careful.
The only reason why I didn't give this DVD four stars is because I found Madonna's other DVD, 'African Beat - Latin Heat' more fun.
A refreshing, intense, short workout that's fun! Cheers!
