Nightclub Dance Series: Hip Hop Moves For The Club, For Men Review

Nightclub Dance Series: Hip Hop Moves For The Club, For Men
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my second hip-hop instructional video purchase, and the first that delivered what it promised. Rather than featuring stage dancers who tell you the most important thing is to feel the groove, it features club-going dancers who break down simple club moves (like grinding and side-stepping) into almost idiot-proof steps. They demonstrate these from multiple angles, speed them up, and then have ladies come out onto the dance floor to show what the interaction might be like when you are doing this move at the club. It would have been nice if some of the moves were even more idiot proof, but careful repeat viewings of instructions do the trick.
As a bonus, there are interview segments where "real girls" talk about what they are looking for in a guy at the club, along with do's and don'ts. The advice is generally good, and it is clear that these are women who spend a lot of time at clubs. I do feel that they could have found more attractive women to give this same advice.
The day I wanted to go out, I opened the video up, and watched and practiced a few moves, getting the basic feel for them. When I went to the club, I was stunned by how simply most people dance. Girls who I was afraid to dance with before were more approachable, because it was clear that they have pretty much no idea what they're doing! My rudimentary skills gotten from one hour of practice were enough to give me the confidence to go out there. I believe that whether or not that is true for you or your scene, this video has enough to make you comfortable provided you practice it.
Overall, if you're shy and avoiding the clubs because you feel like you can't dance, this video is exactly right for you.

I am a huge fan of The Hills. I've never hidden that fact even my boyfriend watches it with me and loves it. I have all the seasons and you could say I'm a little obsessed. I love Kristin Cav she's awesome and loves to start drama. But I have to say the second part was just OK. Don't get me wrong I loved all the fights and the drama and the bitchiness, but it just wasn't the same without Lauren there. Granted it did get a little boring on the first part with Lauren but I think it was because she was rarely on there. I think I was just so used to seeing Lauren on the show. It wasn't awful it could've been better. I'm excited to see what the 6th season has to bring what with Heidi's new face and all and the confrontation with her Mom. Keep up the good work MTV just make the 6th season better please!!!!

The Hills: Season Five, Part One Review

The Hills: Season Five, Part One

The Hills, Season Five Part One, continues on with the never-ending (but always entertaining!) drama that the show is famous for. While this season is the last for cast member LC (aka Lauren Conrad), whom the show is normally centered around, this season actually mostly focuses on Spencer and Heidi, while LC pretty much fades into the background for the majority of it. The season starts off with just as much drama as ever, when Stephanie Pratt brings Heidi to LC's birthday party uninvited, creating some tension. Spencer is less than thrilled that Heidi is hanging out with his sworn enemy, so he goes out to a bar for a "guys night", and ends up flirting with a bartender named stacey. When Heidi finds out about Spencer's flirting (At LC's party) she dramatically demands that she wants to get off the yacht that the party is being held on, and is surprisingly comforted by her old friend LC. The two girls have a teary talk, leaving Heidi hopeful for a renewal for their friendship at last, but LC is less than enthusiastic about that idea, and is angry at Stephanie for continually trying to force her and Heidi to reconcile. Throughout the rest of the season, Spencer and Heidi battle over Spencer's flirtation with stacey, and end up in couple's counseling, in order to try and save their relationship; LC gets Stephanie a job at People's Revolution, which she ends up regretting; Audrina tells Justin Bobby that she's done with him for good (right), and turns to Brody Jenner for comfort during a vacation in Hawaii, which causes problems when Brody's girlfriend Jayde Nicole finds out. The season ends with Spencer making a call to a very unexpected person to apologize, in order to get her to attend his wedding to Heidi. Heidi ends up getting her dream wedding to Spencer, and the wedding day is full of surprises (but not really) when two unexpected guests show up- One who shows up to rattle things up among the cast members, and one who shows up for a short time before disappearing into a limo as soon as the wedding is over.
If you like the other seasons of The Hills, definitely add this one to your collection!

Season 5 of The Hills kicks off as Lauren gets the ultimate surprise when Stephanie brings Heidi to her birthday party. Realizing that their friendship may never be what it once was as long as Spencer is still in the picture, will that keep Lauren and Heidi apart for good? Heidi thought Spencer was ready to grow up when he called off their quickie marriage to give her a dream wedding. But when a guys’ night out ends with Spencer hitting on a beautiful bartender and beating up his sister’s ex-boyfriend, Heidi must ask herself once and for all – is Spencer the guy that makes her happy, or simply the cause of all her problems?

Carmen Electra's Aerobic Striptease - In the Bedroom (2007)
Average Reviews:

I own the original set, and really love them. These new ones are just not up to par. This one is especially disappointing. The moves feel like they're right out of the mid-90s, and the only full run-through of the combination with music is filmed more like a music video...complete with SLOW-MO scenes, meaning there is NO WAY to follow along with it! A total waste. And not at all a workout! NOT EVEN A WARM-UP! I love Carmen, but I doubt I'll ever use this DVD again, unless i'm trying to prove to a friend that it really is THAT bad...
Carmen Electra's Fit to Strip" I really love it, and it gives you an AWESOME workout!

Laguna Beach - The Complete First Season (2004) Review

Laguna Beach - The Complete First Season (2004)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This show is pretty much the definition of a guilty pleasure, and I'm guilty all right: half of the people I know mock me for watching this show and the other half have no idea I watch because I would die of shame if they found out. My sister constantly questions why I watch LB and I have fine-honed my reasons:
-- I went to an overly academically geared high school, so never had the chance to gossip about the in-crowd hijinks of "hooking up" and drunken antics. I missed out on my prime gossip years!
-- It's a chance to see how the other (wealthier) half live... and mock them.
-- Anthropologists have determined that 60% of human communication involves talking about other people; watching "Laguna Beach" proves how human I am.
-- It's a chance to sit back and watch attractive, overly wealthy and pampered teenagers make each other miserable by gossiping, back-stabbing and stealing each other's boyfriends and objects of affection. It's like the real-life version of "Mean Girls" only without Tina Fey writing their lines for them. Less wit, better clothes!
The show is lots of fun if you've got the twisted sensibility to enjoy it. And the second season is much, much better than the first season, with more cat fights, break-ups, tears and "hook-ups" than ever.
My only caveat: watching this on DVD is really the best way to watch, just downing episode after episode right after each other, but I don't know about the necessity of owning them -- who would want to re-watch these episode over and over again? I'm pretty much of the opinion that no reality show is a must-have on DVD, so definitely Netflix/rent over buying.

my wife made me watch the kardashians when it first came out and I admit I liked it right away and we have been watching ever since. naturally we could'nt wait for it to come out on dvd. I could'nt be more disappointed with the dvd because its shown exactly as shown on E. I was looking foward to hearing the exact language and other things they can't show on tv. If I wanted to see it this way, all I have to do is watch the reruns which E shows all the time. I feel like I wasted my money on it!

The Hills - The Complete First Season (2006) Review

The Hills - The Complete First Season (2006)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Its kinda hard for me to admit that I watched LAGUNA BEACH and this premier season of THE HILLS, especially with all the jokes I make about the two series. But being the exact target age of both shows (20 years old), I feel into the original LAGUNA BEACH watching it as it aired durring the final stretch my senior year of High School so I have a small emotional connection to the show as the characters where going through the same things tha I was when it was on the air.
Season's two and three of LAGUNA BEACH though where boarderline annoying and I found myself barely ever watching them. But THE HILLS is different, Lauren was always my favorite 'character' and it was pretty interesting to actually see her grew out of her teenage self and into a young woman - and all the fictionalization that came along with it...
THE HILLS follows Lauren as she moves to Los Angeles (But I'm pretty sure its Santa Monica), and how life changes for her as she enrolls in Fashion School and gets an internship at Teen Vogue and all the Drama that comes along with her roomate, coworker, exboyfriend, and growing up.

Girls Next Door Workout (2007) Review

Girls Next Door Workout (2007)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
OK, I'm going to be honest--I originally got the DVD because I'm a fan of Girls Next Door & thought it looked like it would be a fun workout, based on the episode I saw where the girls were putting the video together. As it turns out, I was more than pleasantly surprised at how challenging the workouts actually were... though I was really disappointed with Kendra's, which really felt like a waste of time to me. Here's a break-down of each 15-minute workout:
Holly's 'Express' Workout:
By far my favorite on the DVD, Holly's routine is very user-friendly & leaves you feeling like you've been working out for a lot longer than the 15 minutes. Though it doesn't mention it on the packaging, you'll need weights and an exercise ball.
Bridget's 'Boot Camp' Workout:
No complaints here; I was sore the next day, though, that's for sure! Bridget takes the 'Boot Camp' theme seriously and leads a rigorous, total-body toning session in her 15 minutes; the only downside is that she seems really, really nervous & it comes across every once in awhile during her routine. You'll need a pair of weights for this workout.
Kendra's Martial Arts Demonstration:
Really, this workout isn't even worth bothering with. Think Tae-Bo, but really watered-down and with a blond ponytail, and you've got it. The first three minutes of her section are basically of her dancing, followed by 10 minutes or so of jump roping & a few martial arts moves (kicking, punching and shadow boxing) I didn't even break a sweat during this one.
Overall, a great DVD with charismatic, encouraging "leaders" for quick, fun toning--just skip Kendra's section and work through Holly & Bridget's for a heart-pumping 30 minute workout.

Kourtney & Khloe Take Miami Season One DVD features all 8 episodes of the first season. Every episode is on the first disc along with the special features. It includes deleted scenes and bonus interviews. Also, it includes the extended version of the first episode that only aired once. The second disc features Keeping Up With The Kardashians: The Wedding special along with deleted scenes from the episode. Promos for Keeping Up With The Kardashians seasons 1 and 2 are on the DVD before the menu. The DVD also includes an ad inside for the second season along with an episode list with summaries of each episode. The only bad things about this release is that it is censored and the theme song is changed. It features just instrumental music instead of "I'm In Miami Trick". Overall, it is a good DVD release, but could be improved.

The Exotic Dance Workout (2007) Review

The Exotic Dance Workout (2007)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm giving this DVD a 4 because it says it's a workout & I really didn't "feel the burn".Its divided into thirds (standing, floorwork, and chair), with a bonus performance at the end. No warm up or cool down, but I honestly didn't need either one. I worked through all three back to back and didn't get the least bit sweaty.
I did feel sexy, relaxed, and generally happy with my body. Its zero impact (unless you fall off your shoes) and the movements are surprisingly elegant.
My complaints are that Lady M narrates as though she is leading a class, not a video (you have to reverse left and right to mirror her) and that sometimes the positions you should be in make it difficult to watch her. Neither of these are a deal breaker, though.

Pussycat Dolls Workout Review

Pussycat Dolls Workout
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's Monday, January 4th. First day back at work. All day long I am mentally psyching myself up to workout because, let's face it, if I loved working out I wouldn't resort to buying a Pussycat Dolls (PCD) Workout DVD at 1:38 am in the morning on Amazon.com. I would be asleep and wake up to take a nice walk. But no. I hate exercise, but love dancing.
It's 5 pm, I drive home, change into workout clothes, take the dog outside, and I put the DVD in.
The cheesy music starts and they show close-ups of the PCD girls and they're all sex-ified. Lovely. This DVD is made for 14 year old boys. I am kind of standing there waiting for the darn intro to finish. Robin Antin is apparently the "creator" (or pimp, your call) of the PCD group and she's going on and on about how great this video is. If you do it daily, you'll look like them in no time!
During this intro all I can think about is 1 thing:
This was probably a waste of $8.
But, I am still optimistic, and I even have a water bottle nearby because clearly to look like them, you gotta work out HARD. Sweat, get sore, be outta breath.
The first part of the workout (a term they use loosely, you'll see why) is set to their popular song "Don't Cha".
It starts off, and Robin is the one giving the instructions and it's easy. If you can walk forward 3 steps and place your hand on your hips on step 4, you've got 1/4 of the darn routine down. If you can do so while trying to act sexy, you've got another 1/4 of it down.
I'm doing it, and I keep thinking to myself that I am not remotely sweaty. Not even out of breath. I look at my dog and he's doing the routine because it's that easy.
At this point I also realize that none of the girls look familiar and this is because it's the PCD from the burlesque show and not PCD the um "singing" group (wink, wink). But this doesn't bother me any, because they all look the same to me. Nicole, the lead "singer", does come out during the 3rd routine to the song "Buttons" if that matters to you or your husband.
It takes about 15 minutes for Robin to teach you the routine, and during these 15 minutes she also mentions a bajillion times that once you do this DVD you'll really start to see results and get better at the dances. Really? Seriously? If you did this DVD everyday you'd be BORED TO TEARS like another reviewer said. Finally, it's time for you to perform the routine from start to finish. How long is the routine? Oh, roughly 30 seconds long. I'll even summarize it for you:

Bow chicka bow wow.
Walk 3 steps, place hands on hips on 4. Shake your hips while doing so. Leave lips slightly open to look sexy.
Do a casual wave of the arm while "hot like me" is playing.
Bend down to the left and right, run your hands up your thighs, slap your butt cheeks once on each side. (yes, butt cheeks- make sure you slap both- no cheating! This is EXERCISE!)
Bend down again and on random beats pop your chest out- this will happen 3 times. Pop what your momma gave ya.
Do some random kickboxing like moves. If it helps, pretend your kicking your PCD DVD into the trash. It helps.

What to do now? The girls on the DVD are practicing their pole moves, I guess I'll do that.
Oh wait, here we go AGAIN.
Walk 3 steps, place hands on hips on 4. Shake your hips while doing so. Leave lips slightly open to look sexy.
Do a casual wave of the arm while "hot like me" is playing.
I think you get the point. You do the "routine" about 5+ times during the song and in between each set you just freestyle some stripper moves hoping your husband/boyfriend/child doesn't walk into the door to see you swinging your hair around while you're in sweatpants.
Not being too impressed with the first routine, I did decide to move onto the next routine. Maybe they get progressively harder, I thought to myself.
Up next, burlesque. More stripper moves.
Robin starts off the segment by telling you to get a boa or a men's tie. I don't have a boa, and my hubby does have a lot of ties, but they're zipper ties. Not gonna work. I finally found a suitable replacement...a pashmina.
The beautiful, magenta pashmina given to me by a friend/co-worker for Christmas. It is gorgeous.
The burlesque routine starts off and you hold the boa/pashmina over your head and move your hips from side-to-side. Then, you turn to the right and rub the pashmina over your chest and lift your leg up and rub it on your leg, too. Alright. You're supposed to do all that in like 3 seconds. FAST. They look all hot doing it, and I almost broke the coffee table trying to do it fast and getting my foot caught in the pashmina.
And this next move nearly caused a HUGE problem.
You take the boa (or my pashmina, which is considerably larger/heavier than a boa) and you swing it to the left and right. It basically slaps down onto the floor and you snap it back up and repeat on the opposite side. I did this forgetting that there is an obstacle to all this.
It's called a ceiling fan. The noise and movement my ceiling fan made when I whipped my pashmina up into it nearly made me shart myself. But after I consoled my dog, I went back to the routine. I decided to just not do the whipping/swinging of the pashmina, and I'd be good, right?
Negative.
After you rub the boa against your girls, your legs, whip it left and right without killing yourself or your animals, you're supposed to turn to the left, slap the boa onto the floor so that it GOES BETWEEN YOUR LEGS and you grab it with one hand behind/near your butt so you can like rub it between your crotch and look all silly and sexy.
I watched the PCD do this, and I looked at my pashmina, and I want to say I called it quits.
But I didn't.
I tried it once. JUST ONCE.
Okay, twice.
And I couldn't grab it behind my butt fast enough because I am like, ya know, FAT. And my butt is FAT, too. And so are my arms. Ugh.
I whipped my pashmina onto the floor so that it went between my legs and it was just ewww. No way I was going to rub my pashmina into my nether regions like I am trying to hump it or something.
IT IS A PASHMINA.
The third routine is set to their song "Buttons" but the only button I pushed was stop on the DVD player. I have tried a ton of workout DVDs, and I have to say this was the most awful one. It's not hard, you could cause bodily harm to humans/animals, and it's a waste of $8. Well, more if you don't have a boa and have to buy one.
Bottom line, don't buy it.
Bottom line #2, don't look at me funny when you see me wear my magenta pashmina.
