A high energy performance in 2004 in Australia. Overall, this is a must see for Meat Loaf fans and recommended for those who have never heard of him. This is Meat Loaf's best dvd by far. This one is a keeper. The encore performance of "Bat Out of Hell" is spectacular.....

Bat Out of Hell The Original Tour UK/US (2009) Review

Bat Out of Hell The Original Tour UK/US (2009)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
From June of 1978 comes this German television special that captures one of the original Bat Out of Hell tour concerts. The album was just exploding into its cult status at the time and everyone's very young and energetic.
THE GOOD: Well, it's a good view of a period of live Meat Loaf that hasn't been widely seen before. This is the tour where he started to destroy his voice, but he hasn't done it quite yet (though he does struggle with the high notes due to his reckless vocals). The result is a young, powerful voice that hits a lot of good notes. During his performance of "Heaven Can Wait," Meat pulls a Patti Labelle and finishes the song without a microphone emphasizing the size of his voice. Karla DeVito is gloriously fun as Meat's first rock chick. Rory Dodd doesn't really stand out, but it's great to see and hear him performing live. And of course, seeing Jim Steinman live and on stage is a tickle. The German TV interview offers an interesting look at Jim and Meat's early relationship (especially in contrast to what it later became).
THE BAD: The video isn't atrocious, but it sure isn't great. It's about as good as it can be considering its 1-inch videotape roots I suppose, but that isn't saying much. The audio mixing is a complete mess. The drums are trebled, forward, and really quite grinding. Everything else just mushes together into a poorly defined single-layer mess that's entirely too thin for the type of music. The camerawork and lighting are uniformly horrid. This band cannot hold a candle to the Neverland Express that Meat constructed years later. The German interviewer doesn't speak much English and seems absolutely clueless as to what he's doing.
THE CONFUSING: Amazon seems to be fixing how this product is advertised compared to what you actually get, but it was (at least originally) posted as including "River Deep, Mountain High" and "Johnny B. Goode" which are certainly not on the North American disc. Amazon listed this as containing a DTS audio track which is not true; there is only a Dolby Stereo track. And Amazon listed the run-time as 105 minutes, but it is actually only 74 minutes of concert. Amazon's mistakes don't affect my rating but are here just as an FYI.
THE VERDICT: This one's very middle-of-the-road for me. As a historical record, it's interesting. As an opportunity to hear Meat's voice pre-destruction, it's a valuable point of interest for die-hard fans. As a concert video, there's no way you'd reach for this audio mess when you could pop in Meat's "3 Bats" DVD. For the fan, the DVD is dirt cheap and probably a decent buy. For the curious onlooker, I'd advise looking at the more sonically and visually stunning Meat concerts. Ultimately, 2½ stars out of 5 for me.

**Note if you are still reading this, and you haven't clicked on the 'Purchase ASAP Button', there must be something wrong with you. I would pay at least $50, if not $100 for this DVD! In fact, I will probably buy 2 or 3 more copies, in anticipation of wearing this copy out (From viewing it Sooooo many times). I have owned this DVD for 2/3 years & couldn't tell you how many times I've viewed it (Not enough fingers & toes to count that High!) Enjoy this at all cost! Great DVD to insert during a party or while playing pool (you can hear great music and whenever you glance at the screen you will see some great musicians playing like they've never played before!
Now I leave you with some lyrics!
*Brainstorm, take me away from the norm. I got to tell you something. This phenomenon, I had to put it in a song & it goes like Whoa! (Amber)*

*Far is solace in the maddening pace, sad state written on my face, not a tight rope, walk but dance uncertain. Game of chance but I'll see it through in time. (I'll be here awhile)*
*I took it as a compliment, regardless what they meant it could have been innocent spent. So spent railing against undeserved dangling precipitants, raining down idiots always flapping in the flapping in the wind. (Sometimes Jacks Rule the Realm)*
*With the words slaying me slow, the verbs that just don't flow, confusing the Use Of Time. Partial stoning of the heart, waiting for something to start, confusing the Use Of Time. But the trying again, makes me think it's all gonna end, confusing the Use Of Time. But every time I turn the volume down, all I hear is the deafening sound of your hearts pound! (Use Of Time)*

Ladies & Gentlemen The Rolling Stones (2010) Review

Ladies and Gentlemen The Rolling Stones (2010)
Average Reviews:

I am a follower of the Stones since 1964. I was 9 years old. Eight years later, my older brother buys tickets for the Houston 4 pm show. It would be my first concert. Five of the fifteen songs in the movie are from this performance. The Stones had played 2 shows in Fort Worth on Saturday, June 24, 1972, and they played 2 shows the next day at the University of Houston. All songs are from Beggars Banquet through Exile on Main St., with Bye Bye Johnny thrown in. Hopefully, they have improved the video for this great movie (the soundtrack has survived in good shape as heard through various bootlegs). Keith's vocals for Happy were overdubbed & a mess was made of it in the film. A mystery, because there is a performance on youtube that is not overdubbed. The vocals are ragged, but it's Keith so who cares? No inflatable women or bridges to small stages, just a band who is focused on showing how good they really are. Mick Taylor is a great guitarist and a highlight, but Keith's rhythm guitar work is amazing, The rhythm section is playing hard, with a horn section from Texas, the legendary Nicky Hopkins on piano, and the best front man in the business. I even think it may be Ian Stuart at the piano during Brown Sugar. Very few shots of the audience, the focus being on the band. If at least one of these songs don't impress you, you are not a rock fan. A must see.

Ladies and Gentlemen… The Rolling Stones finally comes to DVD. This legendary Rolling Stones concert film, shot over four nights in Texas during the "Exile ON Main Street" tour in 1972, was released in cinemas for limited engagements in 1974 and has remained largely unseen since. Now, restored and remastered, Ladies and Gentlemen makes its first authorized appearance on DVD. This is one of the finest Rolling Stones concerts ever captured on film and features outstanding performances of classic tracks from the late '60s and early '70s.
