Beavis & Butthead: Feel Our Pain (1993) Review

Beavis and Butthead: Feel Our Pain (1993)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Feel our Pain is the duo's fifth video and it could quite possibly be their best. No more old episodes this one focuses entirely on new ones and I think that it is a good thing.
-Animation [stinks](A-), Mr. Vandriessen tells the class their next assignment will involve animation, the boys decide to draw dead people. Seeing their final cut of their cartoon was very funny and the highlight was seeing Beavis take a psycho and start screaming massacre.
-Bad Dog(A), Butthead decides that they should adopt a dog and when they find one they like it can't seem to keep itself off of Beavis. This episode makes you laugh out loud and seeing Beavis get his nuts bitten by a dog was just hysterical. You really feel Beavis' pain in this one.
-Tired(A+), Beavis and Butthead roll a tire up a hill and Beavis decides to ride down in it. Best episode on the tape, the mayhem that ensues is classic Beavis and Butthead and there a lots of memorable moments to go around in this episode.
-Bus Trip(A), While taking a field trip to go mountain climbing, Beavis and Butthead decide to moon cars, curse at other people and cause their teacher to fall down a cliff. Once again this is another great episode. Everything is funny including the scene in which they walk to the front of the bus and forget to pull their pants up after mooning cars and Mr. Vandriessens fall is both shocking and funny.
-Patsies(B+), the positive acting teens take Beavis and Butthead out of detention so that they can help them do something positive, they just end up doing something negative. Not the best episode on this tape but it definitly has its moments. Hubcap scene is funny.
-Choke(B), Butthead is choking and it up to Beavis to help him, Goog luck. Alright episode, the best part is when Beavis starts to choke.
-Blood Pressure(A), Beavis decideds to try a blood pressure test thinking its a ride, I think you can guess from the cover what happens next. Once again another classic, Beavis slowing turning red is very funny and Buttheads attempts to free him are so pitiful that its hysterical.
-Lightening Strikes(A-), After watching a documentory on Ben Franklin, our two favorite boys get out the kite and fly it during an electrical storm. Although I am not a big fan of its ending like others are, the shot with them getting struck by lightening and crushed by a tree are well done.
This is a very good tape and like I said earlier could possibly be their strongest. This is the tape I'd advise people to buy and this is the one I show my friends. This is the one newcommers should see first. You won't be dissapointed.

King of the Hill - The Complete Fourth Season (1997) Review

King of the Hill - The Complete Fourth Season (1997)
Average Reviews:

If you are considering the fourth season of King of the Hill for your DVD collection you are probably already a fan of the show. The fourth season has some of my favorite moments from KOTH. Cotton's horror as he finds out that his newborn son is leaking milk, Connie having her period while staying with the Hills, Hank's thanksgiving turkey being destroyed by a bomb squaud at the airport, Peggy's feet being featured on a foot fetish website, Bobby seeing his female cousin naked for the first time, and the whodunnit murder of a very minor character voiced by Reese Witherspoon. These episodes are great without question but what is up with the special features department? The first two seasons had it all, comentaries, animatics, deleted scences, easter eggs, the whole shebang. But when I purchased the third season it was as if they put the release together the night before it came out. There were absolutley no special features, nada, zilch, zip. The discs were the double sided kind, and the artwork on the packaging sucked. It took only a few months between the first and second releases and we got two awesome sets, but it took another year before the third season was released and we got stiffed big time. But now it is time for season four to be released and I'm getting worried that it will be a repeat of the rush-job we got for season three. I already know it is going to be 3 double-sided discs and it is coming out only 4 months after the previous release. I just hope Fox doesn't do this half-assed. I would be willing to wait a few extra months to get this DVD if it would mean getting it done right.

Extract (2009) Review

Extract (2009)
Average Reviews:

I've been waiting or this movie. Loved Office Space, even really enjoyed Idiocracy. I heard some mixed reviews which tempered my expectations, but even so, this was a disappointing and very uneven movie.
Jason Bateman plays his straight-laced, deadpan comedy to the hilt, much as he did in Arrested Development. He is Joel, the owner of a factory employing a real assortment of underachieving, funny characters. With an offer from General Mills to buy the plant and make him rich, Joel looks forward to early retirement. On the home front, he is a sexually frustrated husband with an unreceptive wife and an unrelentingly dull neighbor.
With moments of genius, the movie was also dragged down by some poor realization of comedic potential. Kristin Wiig, a funny and versatile comedienne, is wasted as the housewife, and although she certainly has enough scenes, the writing doesn't allow her to perform.
The various subplots didn't mesh as well as I expected. Instead of a complete tale, this felt like a few sitcom episodes woven together.
That said, there are some great scenes. You will never think about call-waiting again. The personal injury lawyer is fantastic. Ben Affleck does a fine job as the slacker friend.
In retrospect, this is a rental. I wouldn't choose to pay theater prices for this film.

The creator of Office Space, writer-director Mike Judge (Beavis and Butt-head), moves from cubicles to the assembly line with Extract-- his outrageous return to workplace comedy, featuring a hilarious ensemble cast of quirky characters. About to sell his successful flavor extract company, life is almost sweet for Joel (Jason Bateman) until a freak on-the-job accident happens. Add to that his bored wife (Kristen Wiig), his laid-back, stoner best friend (Ben Affleck), a sexy con artist (Mila Kunis) who blows into town with dollar signs in her bedroom eyes, and a dumb gigolo and life as he knows it turns sour. Filled with laugh-out-loud one-liners and raunchy comedy, Extract is 100% pure hilarity.Bonus Features include: Mike Judge's Secret Recipe Featurette The Ingredients For A Classic Mike Judge Film

Beavis and Butt-head - The Mike Judge Collection, Vol .2 (1993) Review

Beavis and Butt-head - The Mike Judge Collection, Vol .2 (1993)
Average Reviews:

Unlike the first volume, where Mike Judge edited dialogue bits out of more than half the episodes, the dreaded "director's cuts" are nowhere to be found. Some reviewers here have suggested that this volume also contains altered versions of the cartoons, but all that is missing from them (as usual) are the music videos. The harsh fan reaction regarding the edited first volume apparently got back to Mike Judge, because he made the right decision to keep this batch in their original form.
Contrary to some reviewers' claims, even after Volume 3 all the episodes will not have been released to DVD. Mike Judge has made it clear that Volumes 1-3 will contain roughly two-thirds of the total episodes. He considers the rest to be too poor to be included.
I happen to agree with Mike Judge that, generally speaking, the later episodes are actually better than the earlier ones. But I still strongly disagree with his decision to leave approximately one third of the episodes unreleased.
I'm glad the episodes collected here are complete. As for the bonus features, they are okay - I'm not sure there's really enough to justify the third disc. The main featurette (Taint of Greatness Pt 2) is only about 20 minutes long - several minutes shorter than part one - and is very heavy on episode clips. The selection of music videos is probably the only feature that most people will return to.
For those who have the Time-Life DVDs, you will find many duplicate episodes (though not quite as many as with the first volume).

When Beavis and Butt-Head first appeared on MTV more than a decade ago, critics dismissed them as brainless couch potatoes who did nothing but watch TV and make lewd jokes about bodily functions. Today we know they were ahead of their time. Beavis and Butt-Head's unique idiocy profoundly changed television, movies, pop culture and the world. This historic box set, personally edited by creator Mike Judge, includes their finest episodes, specials, promos and guest appearances that so enriched a grateful and stupid nation. Beavis and Butt-head - The Mike Judge Collection, Vol. 1 (1993) Review

Beavis and Butt-head - The Mike Judge Collection, Vol. 1 (1993)

According to DVDTalk (see the forums), they have previewed this set and at least some of these episodes have been CUT.
The so called "director's cut" episodes don't ADD anything... they only remove stuff. So not only do you not get the videos in with the episodes, you also get censored episodes as well.
Some examples from DVDTalk (so far):
* 1-900-BEAVIS - On the Time Life disc, when the boys first make the phone call, they laugh and Butthead says "She said something" and they continue to laugh. On the Paramount disc, this line is omitted.
During the call the lady asks if they're there, and on the Time Life disc Butthead says "I think I just innoculated" (which is kinda funny actually). This line is removed in the Director's Cut.
Then at the end, the last line in the Time Life version is "Hey, maybe we'll hear some butt wind." This is removed from the Director's Cut.* Late Night with Butthead - The new Director's Cut removes the first minute and a half of this episode, starting instead where B&B pitch the idea for their talk show. It removes Letterman's cameo voice appearance. Later, the director's cut removes B&B celebrating with some air guitar after successfully pitching their show.
So again, the only thing the Director's Cut does is remove stuff.
* Figure Drawing - The DC removes a line where their teacher says he's about to teach a class on Aroma Therapy. Three or four lines are then cut after B&B rearrange the letters on the sign. Several other dialogue cuts throughout. No additions.
* Held Back - The DC removes the lines "This desk is giving me a stiffy" and "I don't even have room for a stiffy".
* Tainted Meat - The DC removes a bit from the middle of a news broadcast talking about "a fierce new parasite" in regards to Beavis making everyone sick at Burger World.
Gives a new meaning to "Director's Cut" doesn't it?
Note that the first report for the B&B DVD said that the director's cuts will be "different from orignal broadcast, but not necessarily longer".
I can kind of understand the copyright issue with including the videos, but not these other edits.
Don't buy cut up crap like this.

Office Space - Special Edition with Flair (Widescreen Edition) (1999) Review

Office Space - Special Edition with Flair (Widescreen Edition) (1999)

I'm not sure it is essential to have worked in an office to enjoy this film, but I'm certain it will hit home for those who have. The movie was a complete bust at the box office, which utterly mystifies me, because it is hysterically funny and reflects the experience of millions of people across the United States (and I assume elsewhere). In an age where companies are seeking to lay off workers at any possible opportunity, this film has perhaps even more relevance now than it did when it came out in 1999.
The humor of the film works on multiple levels, but for me so much of it is funny with a twist of the knife, for much of the humor hints at a much more serious fact: modern work is genuinely dreadful and alienating. Perhaps many office workers love their job, but I hate mine, and I assume that I am merely one of millions. No one in this film has a meaningful job. Even Lumbergh, though the boss, has an absurd position. Peter Gibbons is at least able to be honest about the ridiculousness of his plight during the incredibly funny sequence in which he is hypnotized.
The film is a collection of many, many wonderful moments. I started laughing from the second that Peter Gibbons gets trapped in the traffic jam and is passed by an old man on a walker, and didn't stop until the very end. The film is a parade of very funny bits, from Michael Bolton and his passion for gangsta rap to Joanna's boss urging her to wear more flair (played by director Mike Judge) to Peter's neighbor who would yell at him through the walls to Peter's bizarre fantasy in which Lumbergh is making love to Joanna holding a cup of coffee in one hand and her ankle in the other to virtually any conversation involving Lumbergh and Milton. Some of the humor is a bit too broad. For instance, although I defy anyone not to find Milton's sequences funny as heck, they don't fit in quite as neatly with the satire of the rest of the film. I wouldn't, however, want to trade them in for a tighter movie.
In a way, this movie has made my life easier to live. I suspected my job was absurd before seeing this film. Now I know it is. But somehow knowing the truth makes it easier to get through the day.

Idiocracy (2006) Review

Idiocracy (2006)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you hated this movie you either didn't get it or were one of the people that the opening narration talks about. This film is a scathing satire about the culture that is breeding things like Paris Hilton, Jerry Springer, and Girls Gone Wild and taking a look at where the United States could be if that culture continues to grow unchecked. The Result is a movie that while not as funny as Office Space, offers a humorous although somewhat frightening look at our society and pop culture. I think this movie is one of those films that will eventually become a cult favorite and generate an even larger following that Office Space has. If you are troubled by your little niece's obsession with being like Paris Hilton or are dismayed by what passes for entertainment these days then you need to see this movie.
