My only beef would be the change in the animation & writting after episode 4. It became way to 'cutesy' and less crass. No more exposed breasts get shown, no more truely funny innuendos. I felt like I was watching a saturday morning fluffy cartoon.
Now I understand why it got cancelled. Someone screwed with it and screwed it up.
It is worth buying for the orginial first 4 episodes tho.

Eureka Seven: Good Night, Sleep Tight, Young Lovers Review

(More customer reviews)Well since the only review on here is a huffy rage one-starring a really decent movie they didn't even finish I'll try to provide another perspective. I fived it just to balance the score a bit, but it's not really a perfect movie, 4 out of 5 is probably closer if you put any stock in review ratings to begin with.
Just to quickly address a point that was brought up there is indeed reused animation from the original series, but you're bound not to notice most of it anyway, as it never breaks the flow of the new narrative, and is often even reworked a bit or put into clever or amusing new contexts. Overall the art and animation is exactly what you'd expect of this studio: gorgeous, top-notch stuff, and I'm really pumped that they are actually releasing this on Blu-ray.
SPOILERS AHEAD SPOILERS AHEAD
One of the most common complaints about this movie and the one that sent the other reviewer packing is that they've completely changed some of the characters. The thing is that this is done very purposefully as part of the central theme of the new story. This movie actually takes place in a parallel universe to the original series. Because of a brief glimpse into that world which occurred before the events of the movie, many of the main characters in the movie universe, who are in a bit of a dire predicament, end up following a legend based on that interaction in hopes that recreating the events that took place in the world of the original series will help solve their own problems. What they come to find out is that they have to stay true to their own unique lives and experiences and create their own legend, solve their own problems. Part of the reason the movie is so in your face about the changes to key characters is to drive this point home. It's really one of the most clever twists I've ever seen in terms of remaking a series into a movie. Unfortunately such an elaborate plot device relies a lot of talking head scenes which sort of hamper the pacing of the show, which is really probably my one and only complaint about the movie.
As a kind of aside I'm going to just say I thought the pedophilia jab at Dewey that was mentioned was actually a pretty dark and hilarious slight on his persona from the original series, where he had an army of utterly loyal children. Also Nirvash and the END in "pokemon" form are hilarious and adorable, so I really fail to see how that's a downside.

Overall it's a really enjoyable movie. It's a very well animated, fun and interesting new adventure with familiar faces and interesting new personalities. Easily the best series->movie adaptation/remake I've seen. Just go into it with an open mind and you'll probably enjoy it.

Nope, it didn't. And the past catches up to the silent afroed warrior in a big way in "Afro Samurai: Resurrection" -- a wildly stylized, bloodsoaked, wildly anachronistic tale of what will happen after you get your gory revenge. And Samuel L. Jackson fits into the quiet, butt-kicking titular character like a hand in a fine leather glove.
Afro now lives in a temple where he meditates, carves little statues of Buddha, and thinks on his bloodsoaked past (cue wild flashback scene involving crazy ninjas and a river of blood).
That would make for a boring movie, so suddenly Kumo and the sexy, sadistic Sio appear, and steal both Afro's No. 1 headband and his father's remains. With his sword reforged, Afro sets out to reclaim the No. 2 headband so he can challenge Sio, and stop her from resurrecting his father (just so she can torture him).
But regaining the headband leads to a terrible cost -- a kindly man with a little son, haunted by the headband's bloody legacy. And the path to Sio's lair is riddled with grotesque henchmen who are very interested in seeing Afro dead -- and Sio herself plans to use a terrible weapon to destroy the man she hates above all else.
Like "Samurai Champloo," "Afro Samurai" is a stylized story that wears its hip-hop trappings and period Japanese flavour like badges of honor. Or headbands. Whichever. The actual story is rather thin, but it carries a heavy message about revenge -- one you get it, it will haunt you like a bloody ghost forever and corrupt others along the way. Ninja Ninja provides a little humor ("I'm gonna die, man! Or at least have a stroke... I HATE HEIGHTS!") but it can't lighten the storyline.
"Afro Samurai: Resurrection" doesn't hold itself back on the fights -- neatly sliced bodies, fountains and rivers of blood, savage beatings and some really creepy cybernetic/masked baddies who are unafraid to get dirty. The highlight is a balletic nighttime duel between Afro and Shichigoro, surrounded by deadly chains and glowing lanterns, and framed by fireworks reflected in the water.
And it leaves the way paved for a third "Afro Samurai" story. I'm waiting.
Most regular actors are terrible at voice-acting, but Samuel L Jackson could easily make a living at it if he wanted to -- both the deep, gravelly voice ("Watch... your damn... MOUTH") and the annoying jabber of Ninja Ninja. And Afro serves as an excellent anti-hero, who does some truly terrible things but is willing to pay for them.
Lucy Liu does a solid job as well, giving Sio both sensual viciousness and tenderness, and even a sort of moral core ("History will mourn the atrocities you now commit"), while Yuri Lowenthal and Mark Hamill have good small roles. And Liam O'Brian's gravelly/soft voice gives poignancy to his small but memorable role as Shichigoro.
The two-disc edition has a cluster of extras, mostly in featurette form -- a two-part making-of documentary, an interview with the creator, music composition, video game, commentary, and assorted other stuff. Mainly interesting if you really love the movie.
"Afro Samurai: Resurrection" is a solid sequel that shows what happens when revenge is swung back at you. A good, bloodsoaked anime that opens the way for more.

The 1st season of the hit series "The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy" is now finally on a two-disc DVD set with a whole lotta episodes on there starring the mean-spirited Mandy, the moronic Billy, and of course, The Grim Reaper himself. Such episodes include:
"Meet the Reaper" - The original pilot episode that started it all. As Grim attempts to reap the soul of a hamster named Mr. Snuggles, the two kids strike a deal with him, which he lost to.
"Fiend Is Like Friend Without the 'R'" - Introducing Nergal, a creepy being from the center of the earth, who kidnaps Billy and Mandy to be his friends. Soon Grim becomes concerned and reluctantly rescues them.
"Grim Or Gregory" - A case of mistaken identity on Halloween night has Grim confused with another kid in a reaper costume !
"Beasts and Barbarians" - A major inspiration to the video game, Grim transports the kids into another dimension where they battle bigger-than-life monsters in order to cure their gaming addictions.
"Hoss Delgado: Spectral Exterminator" - The first appearance of this tough guy who discovers and attempts on capturing the Grim Reaper.
"To Eris Human" - Introducing the sexy Goddess of Chaos, Eris, who takes Mandy as her minion leaving Grim feeling rather dumped.
"Toadblatt's School of Sorcery" - The first "Harry Potter" parody episode with its weird magic and other strange creatures. 'Nuff said.
"Brown Evil" - A two-parter where Billy cooks up some brownies that attracts a humongous horde of zombies ! It's up to Hoss Delgado to stop them.
"Creating Chaos" - One of the funniest episodes, Eris now recruits Billy to spread her chaos upon the globe. Unfortunately, Billy himself is a little more chaotic than her magic apple can do.
"Tween Wolf" - The hapless Irwin transforms into a werewolf which Billy adopts as his new pet.
"Love Is EVOL Spelled Backwards" - Nergal returns and attempts to marry Billy's Aunt Sis. Let's just hope Billy doesn't have that freak as his uncle.
This new set has an overload of bonus features like a commentary and an interview with series creator Maxwell Atoms, plus the "Brains" music video as seen in the classic episode "Little Rock of Horrors". The weirdest special features in the second disc include an episode in "Burp-O-Rama" and a virtual pet Mr. Snuggles. Perhaps the best bonus feature of all in the set is the 2 "Evil Con Carne" bonus episodes with optional "Skarr-O-Vision" feature. (I wish, however, they put in ALL of the "Evil Con Carne" episodes in the set. Then we can have "Grim and Evil" again !)
So if you've been waiting for this set to come by, get it while you still can. One thing's for sure, this is one series that will let you look Death in the eye... and laugh real hard. I really REALLY hope the rest of the "Billy and Mandy" series will be put on DVD real soon. But in the meantime, look for brand-new "Grim Adventures" episodes Friday nights on Cartoon Network's all-new "Fried Dynamite" block.

Beavis & Butthead: Feel Our Pain (1993) Review

(More customer reviews)Feel our Pain is the duo's fifth video and it could quite possibly be their best. No more old episodes this one focuses entirely on new ones and I think that it is a good thing.
-Animation [stinks](A-), Mr. Vandriessen tells the class their next assignment will involve animation, the boys decide to draw dead people. Seeing their final cut of their cartoon was very funny and the highlight was seeing Beavis take a psycho and start screaming massacre.
-Bad Dog(A), Butthead decides that they should adopt a dog and when they find one they like it can't seem to keep itself off of Beavis. This episode makes you laugh out loud and seeing Beavis get his nuts bitten by a dog was just hysterical. You really feel Beavis' pain in this one.
-Tired(A+), Beavis and Butthead roll a tire up a hill and Beavis decides to ride down in it. Best episode on the tape, the mayhem that ensues is classic Beavis and Butthead and there a lots of memorable moments to go around in this episode.
-Bus Trip(A), While taking a field trip to go mountain climbing, Beavis and Butthead decide to moon cars, curse at other people and cause their teacher to fall down a cliff. Once again this is another great episode. Everything is funny including the scene in which they walk to the front of the bus and forget to pull their pants up after mooning cars and Mr. Vandriessens fall is both shocking and funny.
-Patsies(B+), the positive acting teens take Beavis and Butthead out of detention so that they can help them do something positive, they just end up doing something negative. Not the best episode on this tape but it definitly has its moments. Hubcap scene is funny.
-Choke(B), Butthead is choking and it up to Beavis to help him, Goog luck. Alright episode, the best part is when Beavis starts to choke.
-Blood Pressure(A), Beavis decideds to try a blood pressure test thinking its a ride, I think you can guess from the cover what happens next. Once again another classic, Beavis slowing turning red is very funny and Buttheads attempts to free him are so pitiful that its hysterical.
-Lightening Strikes(A-), After watching a documentory on Ben Franklin, our two favorite boys get out the kite and fly it during an electrical storm. Although I am not a big fan of its ending like others are, the shot with them getting struck by lightening and crushed by a tree are well done.
This is a very good tape and like I said earlier could possibly be their strongest. This is the tape I'd advise people to buy and this is the one I show my friends. This is the one newcommers should see first. You won't be dissapointed.

Danny Phantom Season 3 (3 Disc Set) Review

(More customer reviews)With the old writers having left by the tail end of Season Two (story planner Steve Marmel with writers Sib Ventress - though he worked on two Season 3 episodes - and Marty Isenberg or as I call them, "The Great Trio"), new writers had to fill in to start up Season Three and wrap up the DP mytho. Short term: they got the head, but not the heart. Season Three is lackluster, inferior, average and half the time, downright terrible.
Oh, it starts off promising. Steve Marmel's final story (planned by him, written by Ventress) "Eye for an Eye" is Season Three's premiere. It's an excellent, emotional, and intense focus on the newly-built rivalry between Danny and Vlad after the tragic events of "Kindred Spirits". I'd have expected great and darker stories with this excellent set up, but the adventure is short lived. The next episode ("Infinite Realms") is all action, action, action with little character interaction; Vlad's character here is quickly and painfully derailed (he doesn't find his own destiny - he creates it!)
Others don't flail. "Torrent of Terror" had the good idea to work on Danny's emotional problems, but doesn't thoroughly develop or complete it. Not to mention that episode and others ("Urban Jungle" and "Frightmare") introduces villains who are all boring one-notes with goals for world domination, but no reason why. Worse, their personalities are practically non-existent which would have saved their otherwise unremarkable plans. Good guy Frostbite is more Mr. Exposition then character and Pandora might as well not be in the episode, only truly appearing in the end to deliver a quick Deus Ex Machina. Only Amorpho have any sense of personality (His episode appearance "Forever Phantom" is actually one of the few gems; excellent story and overall use on Danny's character).
Special mentions go to "Girls' Night Out", "Boxed Up Fury", and "Livin' Large": the former a "girl power" episode that ironically focuses too much on the chicks obsessing, hating, and loving their men and the heroes acting severely incompetent. The latter an exercise in frustration; proving Box Ghost is best left as a minor running gag instead of a full time villain - especially when they had to spend 22 minutes telling us that. And the last creates a disposable behavior in Danny by making him selfish and ignorant that clashes with his maturity (not to mention a cheap ending and some nagging plotholes: a lock on the Fenton Portal - well, gee! That would have solved a lot of ghostly invasions 46 episodes ago!) These are not only the worst Season Three episodes, but some of the worst overall.
This season also made me hate Sam. The goth girl was someone I never cared for, but she was a valued character who had her own set of flaws. Here, she turned into a walking Mary Sue. Always with the answer, always delivering moral actions, always proving she's the most incredible, competent person in the whole world. She may have acted this role in the past, but back then, Danny equally argued back or protest against her instead of taking her speech like a good little boy. Back then, she attempted to fix any mistakes she made or get repercussions for creating them. Back then, she was self-righteous to the point of hypocritical behavior, not the "You know I'm right" attitude she's sporting, completely with the plot backing her up. In short, she was flawed.
Not to mention the romance between Danny and Sam is shoehorned in. The past two seasons only explored the love between Danny and Sam (and others) when the plot called for it. Here, they dump it in inappropriate moments and so frequently that it makes me wanna gag myself from all its sugary infection. Why do they need to have Sam give a useful book to Danny romantically or why does their romantic dreams have to overshadow the others' dreams? And so forth. I couldn't stand it and I can't stand her. At this point, Danny does not deserve her. Not one bit.
And the character derailment doesn't stop there. Tucker is frequently and brutally ignored (mostly to work in the Danny/Sam subplot), the already characterless Danielle is still plot device then her own person, Spectra for some reason hates Bertrand despite no evidence of such, someone decided it was good to hook up Skulker and Ember for no discernible reason, and Vlad...god, Vlad; the once clever, manipulative genius spends half the time acting like Dick Dastardly or ruined by the writer's plots to make him greedy or narcissistic, two traits that Vlad is NOT. His quest for world domination is also haphazardly put together for no reason, so chock him up there with the other new villains' dull goals!
But I will give them some credit: the last five or so episodes are consistently above average and tolerable to watch. Walker is diabolical and awesome in "Claw of the Wild" and Vlad returns to form in "D-Stabilized". Even then, they are flawed or unimpressive compared to the superior Season One and Two. The grand finale also stands out as one of the biggest mixed feelings I've had on a cartoon because it gets so many things right and wrapped up, but also gets SO many things wrong. Lest of all, some aborted arcs from the previous season (Valerie's story arc is never resolved, what did Vlad plan to do with the Fright Knight OR his elaborate Underground Base, Tucker's corrupted darkness is never solved, and oh, Dark Danny).
It was clear story planner Marmel had different plans for Season Three and it was even clearer the new writers didn't take advantage of the blatant and obvious. In some ways, I can't blame them. Season Three was rushed due to DP's cancellation and I could imagine them having to churn out stories with their limited time. But it's still not an excuse for poor writing. Especially with the creator himself who proves he just cannot write his own show unless Marmel was babysitting him. That should not be.
With yet another barebones DVD with no extras (still not even subtitles!) and the fact that I absolutely despise this season, this Danny Phantom DVD is a no recommendation from my end. Others may feel differently. The only good thing is that they put the episodes in proper chronological order. Even the info on the back of the box is accurate outside of claiming it holds 12 episodes (guys, "Phantom Planet" counts as two separate episodes).

(More customer reviews)Despite what one of the other reviewers said, this DOES NOT COME WITH THE MOVIE. It comes with the director's cut episodes and the DVD extras, but no more.
I wouldn't spend over $55 dolars on this though, if you don't want the extras, the Platinum collection can be had relatively cheaply, and the Platinum Perfect is still around if you have the cash.
Another thing is that one of the disc holders inside had some molding issues and made a hairline scratch around one of my discs. Everything played OK, but this is something to watch out for.

(More customer reviews)This is one of the better Anime's to come out in the states and get air time on TV. The show appears on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim due to it's graphic violence. I am sure though that if you are looking at getting this set you probably are already watching it. This is probably the best buy for getting the episodes. This set includes volumes 1 and 2 or episodes 1-9. The set also includes volume one of the Manga, OST 1, and what is best described as a radio show containing the characters on a cd. It also includes 3 booklets over the shows main characters with interviews from the creators. The case itself is sturdy with artwork on all sides and on the interior. If you live in a major city I would suggest picking this up from Best Buy as it is a little bit cheaper, not much though. If you are going to have it shipped than amazon would be the best bet.

1.-The Yankee Doodle Mouse (7.23 minutes 26 June 1943)
Utterly charming tribute to America's fighting men. Jerry has a cat raid shelter in the basement of a house where he battles Tom. Oscar winner and patriotic.
2.-Sufferin' Cats (7.50 minutes 16 Jan 1943)
Jerry is besieged by both Tom and an orange cat (Meathead, in his first screen role). Jerry plays off both cats into fighting each other and makes his escape.
3.-Baby Puss (7.51 minutes 25 Dec 1943)
Tom is forced to play baby for a little girl. Jerry laughs at him and Tom gives chase and kicks him out the room. Jerry brings in three alley cats who in turn have a little fun with "baby" Tom. They before a Carmen Miranda-sh rendition of "mam, You Quiero." The little girl returns, the ally cats run away and Tom is punished with a dose of castor oil. Jerry doesn't escape the castor oil punishment either.
4.-The Zoot Cat (7.03 minutes 26 Feb 1944)
Tom tries to woo his girlfriend with a zoot suit made from a hammock. However, Jerry ends up with the suit and the girl in the end.
5.-The Million Dollar Cat (7.10 minutes 6 May 1944)
Tom inherits a million dollars from a relative, but the stipulation in the will is that he "refrain from harming any living creature, including even a mouse." Jerry takes full advantage of this, who constantly reminds Tom of the condition in the will. Eventually, Jerry pushes Tom too far. Tom tears up the will and then tears into Jerry, throwing away a million bucks.
6.- The Bodyguard (7.21 Minutes 22 July 1944)
Jerry frees Spike from the city pound truck. Spike promises that if Jerry ever needs anything to "just whistle". Jerry whistles, Tom gets crushed, we laugh.

Tom is reading the book, "How to Catch a Mouse". Tom uses every trick in that book, but Jerry is too smart for that.
8.-Tee For Two (7.00 minutes 21 July 1945)
On the golf course, Tom uses Jerry for a tee, and the fun begins. They make a boring sport, fun!
9.-Flirty Birdy (7.13 minutes 22 Sept 1945)
Just as Tom is about to eat a Jerry sandwhich, a hawk swoops down and takes it away to have for himself. Tom disguises himself as a lady hawk to get his sandwhich back, but the hawk falls for him. Tom can't get rid of the lovestruck bird.
10.-Quiet Please (7.43 minutes 22 Dec 1945)
Tom pursues Jerry into a sleeping Spike. Spike warns Tom that if he makes one little noise, he'll skin Tom alive. Jerry takes the cue and makes every effort to wake the dog. Jerry succeeds with a firecracker, Tom ends up bandaged head to toe rocking a sleeping Spike.
11.-The Milky Waif (7.58 minutes 18 May 1946)
When baby mouse Nibbles (screen debut) is abandoned on Jerry's doorstep, it spells trouble for both Tom and Jerry. Nibbles show's his mettle when he protects Jerry with a frying pan to Tom's face. Jerry shows his heart when rushes to the rescue after Tom hits Nibbles with a flyswatter.
12.-Solid Serenade (7.21 minutes 31 Mar 1946)
Tom brings along his bass fiddle to seranade his girlfriend, but Spike is in the yard. Tying up Spike he proceeds to woo his girlfriend with "Is you Is". He is hampered in his wooing by a music loving mouse name Jerry.
13.-Cat Fishin' (7.54 minutes 22 Feb 1947)
On a fishing trip, Tom uses Jerry for bait. Jerry is not to happy about this and uses Spike to get back at Tom.
14.-The Cat Concerto (7.49 minutes 26 Apr 1947)
Tom is the snooty piano player. Jerry is the music loving mouse that sleeps in the piano. Tom plays Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 while Jerry listens. Tom starts pushing Jerry around and then Jerry ends up finishing the concert and receiving the applause.
15.-Kitty Foiled (7.20 minutes 1 Jun 1948)
Jerry teams up wiht a canary to fight off Tom. Trains and bowling balls join in the fray.
16.-The Truce Hurts (7.59 minutes 17 July 1948)
Spike decides to make amends with Tom and Jerry, but the peace falls apart when they fight over a juicy steak.
17.-Salt Water Tabby (7.16 minutes 12 July 1947)
Tom trys to woo a girl at the beach. Jerry interupts the wooing. Tom is not too happy and he begins to chase Jerry all over the beach. In the end, Jerry sails away with the picnic basket.
18.-The Invisible Mouse (8.42 minutes 27 Sept 1947)
Jerry is being chased by Tom and ends up in a bottle of invisible ink. He discovers that he can't be seen and proceeds to use it towards his advantage. In the end he whacks Spike with a golf club and leaves Tom to take the blame.
19.-Heavenly Puss (7.48 minutes 9 July 1949)
Tom tries to gain entrance to the pearly gates but is turned away unless he can obtain a certificate of forgiveness from Jerry with an hour. Tom find it is more difficult than would seem.
20.-The Little Orphan (7.50 minutes 30 April 1949)
Jerry kindly invites orphan Nibbles to Thanksgiving Dinner. The two join forces to thwart Tom and have a peaceful dinner all together.DVD-2:

Again a women gets the attention of Tom. Tom enlists an unwilling Jerry's help who promptly tries to interupts the wooing with a bull.
2.-Jerry and the Lion (7.13 minutes 8 Apr 1950)
Jerry hides an escaped lion in the house, while Tom is on the hunt for the lion to get the huge reward. Jerry then sees the lion off on the S.S. Africa, tearfully waving goodbye.
3.-Tom and Jerry in the Hollywood Bowl (7.22 minutes 17 Sept 1950)
Tom is conducting an all cat orchestra to the overture to "Die Fledermaus". Jerry wants to conduct as well, but Tom will have none of that. Jerry retaliates and Tom ends up playing the rest of the overture solo with Jerry conduting.
4.-Jerry and the Goldfish (7.21 minutes 3 Mar 1951)
Tom tries to cook Goldy, the goldfish. Jerry is on hand to rescue his fishy friend from chef Tom
5.-Cue Ball Cat (7.02 minutes 25 Nov 1950)
A riotous game of pool results when Tom wakes Jerry from a nap in the pool table. Never wake up a sleeping mouse.
6.-Slicked-up Pup (6.19 minutes 8 Sept 1951)
Butch (Spike the bulldog) has just bathed Pup (Tyke) when Tom accidentally get the little dog muddy. Dad is not happy and orders Tom to clean Pup or else. Jerry "helps" with the cleaning and Tom ends up in the washing machine.
7.-Jerry's Cousin (6.39 minutes 7 Apr 1951)
Muscles, Jerry's cat-curdling cousing, arrives to help get Tom under control. Muscles is a mean streets mouse, and more than a match for Tom. When his muscle building regime doesn't work, Tom calls in his alley cat friends, "Dirty Work, Inc." to rid the house of Muscles. But Muscles evicts the alley cats and Tom surrenders to the might of this mouse.
8.-Cat Napping (6.52 minutes 8 Dec 1951)
A lazy afternoon, a cool class of lemonade, and Jerry napping in a hammock - until Tom wants it. A battle ensues over the hammock with Spike, a frog, and an army of ants joining in.
9.-The Flying Cat (6.44 minutes 12 Jan 1952)
Jerry and a canary save one another from Tom and take refuge in the Canary's birdhouse. Tom fashoins a piar of wings from a girdle and flies after the Canary and Jerry.
10.-The Two Mouseketeers (7.21 minutes 15 Mar 1952)
Given the responsibilities, by the tyrannical King, of guarding the grand banquet table, Tom is confronted by the sudden appearance of Jerry and Tuffy (Nibbles), the Mouseketeers. But the mice outwitt the guard, turning the table into a battle field.
11.-Smitten Kitten (7.49 minutes 12 Apr 1952)
Another flashback cartoon, this time it's Jerry with the flashbacks. All involving Tom and his women.
12.-Johann Mouse (7.57 minutes 21 Mar 1953)
In the house of Johann Strauss is little Johann Mouse, who love to waltz. Every time Strauss played, the mouse would dance. And when the mouse danced, the cat chased.
13.-Baby Butch (7.09 minutes 14 Mar 1954)
Butch (Meathead) dresses as a baby and leaves himself on Tom's Doorstp as a meand of gaining entry to the refridgerator. Jerry teams up with Tom to foil the sham baby's plot.
14.-Two Little Indians (6.49 minutes 17 Oct 1953)
Scoutmaster Jerry has his hands full with two little orphans from the Bide a Wee Mouse Home. Outfitted in Indian feathers and diapers , the two involve Jerry and the sleeping Spike in a hair-raising battle with Tom.
15.-Mice Follies (6.49 minutes 4 Sept 1954)
Jerry and Tuffy (Nibbles) turn the kitchen floor into a ice skating rink.
16.-Designs on Jerry (6.39 minutes 2 Sept 1955)
Tom designs the ultimate mousetrap. But the blueprint mouse comes to life to help Jerry out of the trap.
17.-Pecos Pest (6.35 minutes 11 Nov 1955)
Jerry's Uncle Pecos spends the evening with his nephew just before a scheduled TV appearance. His guitar string is always snapping and it's always Tom's wiskers that get pulled to replace them.
18.-Touche Pussy Cat (6.45 minutes 18 Dec 1954)
Tuffy's father sends him to Jerry for mouseketeer training. He fails miserable and destroys Jerry's place in the process. However, he gains the mouseketteer title when he thwarts Tom.
19.-The Flying Sorceress (6.40 minutes 27 Jan 1956)
Tom unsupectingly takes a new job with a witch. He steals her flying broom to return home and scare the wits out of Jerry.

Fullmetal Alchemist, Volume 13: Brotherhood (Episodes 49-51) (2004) Review

(More customer reviews)The trials of the Elric brothers have all been leading up to the events of this volume, which deals with the final, all-out culmination of the struggle between the story's forces of good and evil.
As Hawkeye deals with the madman Archer and Mustang tries to redeem himself by taking personal responsibility for stopping Bradley's reign of terror, the time of Dante's triumph draws nigh. As Ed races to save Al, he finally faces his greatest challenge - an inevitable, to-the-death battle with the psychotic, androgynous shapeshifter Envy - that even his love for Al might not help him win this time.
Although loose ends are left for the movie which follows, alot is wrapped up, particularly Mustang's storyline and the shocking revealation of exactly why the mere mention of any of the Elrics, especially the boys' father, throws Envy (who has some of the volume's most memorable moments) into an unspeakable rage. In a way it almost seems sad that a movie follows, because the ending of the series proper just seems so right.
As a whole, this was an intelligently written and extremely moving series that transcended it's genre.

Transformers Animated: Season Two (2009) Review

I was there at the dawn of the G1 Series, and have seen almost every other (Japanese) Transformer series that followed, including the very bad attempts at adapting a few of these series for the U.S. Though none of these series were on par with even the slowest/silliest G1 Episodes! Beast Wars, & Transformers: Armada were fun, for the most part and had some of the "spirit" of the G1 series, but weren't quite there. Now we have the newest series: Transformers Animated. I saw some of the early designs for the "new" versions of the classic characters at the San Diego ComicCon a few years ago, and thought that they might be a little too cartoony, but they still looked kind of cool. Although, I still cannot stand Optimus Prime with a mouth!!! Anyway, I started watching this series with my nephews, and found myself really enjoying the stories (simple as they are), and the animation as well. The first season is good, and the second season is a bit better. So, if you haven't watched any of this series, please give it a try. You might enjoy it more than you think you would!

Felix The Cat (Collector's Edition) (1958) Review

(More customer reviews)If you long for seeing anything about Felix the Cat, this CD is for you. Otherwise, if you're expecting a true "Collector's Edition," don't waste your time and don't waste your money.
Given that this was a DVD, I was expecting to see several classic episodes from Felix the Cat. Instead, this DVD only contained one hour (or ten episodes) from the series. DVDs can hold at least two hoursr of material.... this was a great disappointment!
I was really disappointed because many of the things that made the series special were missing:
* no va-va-voom!
* only two five minute episodes with the magic bag
* only one episode with Master Cylinder
* only two five minute episodes with Rock Bottom
* only one and a half episodes with Poindexter
This is not a "Collector's Edition." It's just a random set of episodes that someone put together to make a quick buck.

Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple - Season One, Part One Review

(More customer reviews)Kenichi the Mightiest Disciple is a simple action comedy that is very entertaining. The character himself is the nice guy underdog who is completely isolated at the beginning. Since his strength is lacking and he has no friends he is often mocked at the very least and beat on the very worst. I don't want to talk about key points in the plot but its engaging to see Kenichi evolve to become both physically and emotionally stronger. His training and the various interactions between characters are quite humorous and the fights are well done.
When he fights a tough opponent it is plausible he is able to be a contender because his training is not only sadistically harsh and long but also he learns counter moves. They go into great detail about the fighting styles in this anime. What they are used for, their strengths and weaknesses, and how they are learned (performed). I hope my review was helpful and I hope enough people enjoy (purchase) Kenichi that funimation will license the rest of the show (they licensed 26 out of 50 episodes to test the product.)
This DVD Contains 13 Episodes and B will have 13 Since Funi only licensed the first 26. Trailers and clean opening/ending are the only special features included here... standard/generic special features only. Total Run time for the 13 episodes is 312 Minutes.

Yeah, Kenichi’s a total wimp. He’s always getting picked on and doesn’t have a lot of friends to stick up for him. The guy needs motivation if he hopes to graduate in one piece.
Well, Miu’s the perfect motivation. She’s hot, she accepts him, and she just so happens to live at a dojo with six martial arts masters. You could say fate has led Kenichi to their door, or you could say he was just following the hottie. Either way, he’s about to get whipped into serious shape. If he can survive some hard-core training, he might survive another day at school. He might even score with Miu. Yeah, you could call Kenichi a wimp. But let’s go with underdog instead.

Cowboy Bebop - The Perfect Sessions (Limited Edition Complete Series Boxed Set) Review

Growing up in the '80s and seeing the reruns of '70s imports (like Speed Racer), not to mention the whole Pokémon thing that hit while I was in high school, I know some people out there like those things but I find them repulsive and annoying. Silly caricatures with gigantic eyes and frame rates of about 2 per minute, almost like watching a slide show with really bad narration.
Then a friend pressured me to watch Cowboy Bebop on Cartoon Network. He knew my reservations about Japanese cartoons, but pushed me into it anyway (it was a Saturday night, I wasn't doing anything anyway...) and I haven't stopped thanking him.
This series is good. Not good, great. This is the program that anyone who says "cartoons are for kids" should watch. The first thing that I noticed was that the episodes were each standalone. Most of the popular animations of today are very series-oriented, if you miss one the next one probably won't make sense, and the whole thing feels soap-opera-ish. But not Bebop. Oh, it's true that there's an ongoing storyline, but you don't have to be familiar with it to enjoy any given episode. In fact, it might be good to watch them out of sequence once and then in order, you'll get everything on two different levels.
Then there's the music. It is easily the best music in a cartoon, possibly the best in a television series. Just like I don't like anime, I don't like jazz. Or so I thought, but many thanks to Yoko Kanno for proving me wrong on that count. It's original, it's catchy, and even though I didn't much care for a lot of it initially, it now has so much emotion attached to it that I have added it to my regular listening. I definitely can't say that about any other television series ever.
Oh, the characters. Where can I even begin? They have complexity and depth, worthy of some of the best movies to ever come out of Hollywood. They each have their own backgrounds, their own motives, they have personality. After twenty-six episodes, it's hard not to develop an attachment to at least one of them. You don't have to take my word on this; I've seen many others who agree with me on this. Besides, you could watch it and decide for yourself.
As far as I'm concerned, this is essential viewing. Not everyone might agree with me, but I have a feeling that there are many out there who would absolutely love this show if they saw just one episode. It turned me on to anime, and I'm pretty hard to sway in opinion. If you're into anime, this is a must. If you can bring yourself to realize cartoons as something other than Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse, this is probably for you, too. It's for adults of all ages, and appeals for so many reasons.
By the way, the dubbed version may be better. Nothing against the original cast, and it's not a personal aversion to subtitles (I usually prefer subbed to dubbed), but the English cast are incredible. I've never seen that kind of attention or acting in translation. And, because of the nature of the show, I think it just feels better.

Christmas Time In South Park (1997) Review

(More customer reviews)When I think of Christmas the first thing that always comes to mind is Trey Parker's & Matt Stone's "South Park." These two geniuses have worked tirelessly to make "South Park" synonymous with Jesus. But really, "South Park" always has the best Christmas eps. Come to think of it, I'd have to say that "South Park" is the very best original TV program currently on the air. Everything else simply pales in comparison because this animated series mixes just the right blend of satire and comedy to form a modern-day masterpiece. All of the characters are incredibly likeable because everyone can relate to them. But, my number-one favorite character is none other than Cartman. Cartman is a total monster but he also has a very sweet side to him.
As you may know, this DVD was just released last month and is the newest "South Park" DVD; coming out just in time for Christmas! I purchased this for a good friend of mine that loves SP. He is actually out of the country traveling and hasn't seen an ep in ages so I think this would be a very welcome addition to his video library, or anyone else's for that matter. I really think that just about anyone can enjoy SP, like the back of the jacket says, "gather' round the fire and watch these classic 'South Park' episodes."
There are a total of 7 eps, included on 1 disc. As usual, the picture and sound quality is amazing and these are the original episodes that you remember from Comedy Central!

This show is from Season 1 . In this X-mas-themed show the kids put on a Christmas play. When Kyle's mom hears about it she is livid. You may recall, in this ep, Cartman sings his famous song in honor of Mrs. Broflovski.

This ep is from Season 2 . The boys travel with Cartman and his mom to Eric's relatives for Christmas. While there, they meet up with Charlie Manson.

This ep is from Season 7 . The boys travel to Canada to get Kyle's little bother back. Take special notice when Eric and Kyle fight. It's so funny when Eric screams, "meeehm" just like a little b**ch!

This ep is from Season 8 . Kyle is caught up in a Christmas fairytale with those cute little Woodland Critters. I'd say out of all the SP Christmas eps this one is by far the most disturbing!

NEON GENESIS-EVANGELION 2 BOX SET (DVD/2 DISC) Review

(More customer reviews)For those turning to this film to answer all the questions that the last two episodes of the Evangelion (NGE) series didn't answer, I suggest you look elsewhere. If anything, this film will provide you with precious few answers but a multitude of new questions. For those wanting a highly provocative, thought-provoking, intelligent and most poignant conclusion to the NGE series, then have no fear. I will try to explain some of the more perplexing elements in this film, without giving too much away, as well giving my thoughts and opinions at the same time.
The film is structured to be the final two episodes of the series. So the first half, Ep. 25 "Air/Love is Destructive" is concurrent with the series episode 25 "The World Ending/Do You Love Me?". The second half, Ep. 26. "My Purest Heart for You/One More Final: I Need You" is concurrent with the series episode 26 "The Beast that Shouted Love at the Heart of the World/Take Care of Yourself."
Much like the NGE series, the End of Evangelion (EoE) weaves a complex story where images and dialogue are closely related to the philosophy and symbolism. These themes are played out through the psychology of each characters' own mind. It is essentially a microcosm of the entire series. The opening scenes before the "Air" title card of Ep. 25 of Shinji overlooking the ruins of the city, and then entering Asuka's hospital room and, (I'll leave it there) set the mood and atmosphere. Showing effectively and very disturbingly that this is NOT going to be an easy film. As the first half roars out of the gates at breakneck speed, we see the hostile takeover of Nerv by the Seele organization and each Nerv member's desperate attempt to hold it at bay.
We also see the mental states that the two main Eva pilots - Shinji and Asuka - have been reduced too. Shinji is severely depressed after killing the last angel, Kaworu, whom he had formed a close bond with. Asuka is in the same mental boat as Shinji as she sits at the bottom of the lake in her Eva, which she feels she can't pilot anymore. What's interesting is the paths that have driven these two characters to this point. The ideas of finding one's self-worth (examined perfectly in the final two series episodes), and what happens to a person when that is taken away.
At the same time Seele is trying to initiate their plans for Third Impact using Unit-01 and the downright creepy looking Mass-Produced Eva Series, Gendo has his own plans involving Rei and Lilith. As Asuka, (with a little help and inspiration from her Mama) rages an extremely violent battle with the Evil Evas, Gendo takes Rei down to Lilith. He does this to unite the souls and bodies of Adam and Lilith only to find his scorned lover, Ritsuko there. It's interesting that two of the most shocking and violent scenes (the Asuka/Eva battle and the Gendo/Ritsuko confrontation) are played out to Bach's beautiful "Air". The infusion of the music in this film is truly brilliant and a major reason why many scenes are so effective.
However, this is the point in the film where most people will start to become completely lost. Without a really good understanding of the NGE story (and perhaps even with one), it's hard not to. It's very difficult to make the extremely complex simple, however I'll try without many spoilers.
Suffice it to say that Seele were trying to initiate Third Impact and reduce humankind back to its original form - the Primordial Soup of Life where all souls and beings are one. Gendo had different plans and just wanted to see his 'dead' wife, Yui again. Neither Seele's or Gendo's plans go exactly as they were meant to. Unit-01, along with Shinji, ends up becoming the Tree of Life, and the ark in which all souls are ushered through and into Lilith's Egg. Understanding the idea that in NGE, humans - Lilim, as we're called - were born from Lilith, and Rei is essentially Lilith helps make this clearer. What's happening near this point is 3rd Impact is occurring because of the Unit-01 and the Mass Produced Eva encounter. This returns the Geo-Front (the sphere like cavern where Nerv HQ sits) to its original form, the Egg of Lilith (we see this during the "Eye"-like explosion). After the Giant Rei/Lilith forms, Shinji is essentially given reign over the future of the human race by Rei/Lilith herself.
At this point, the tempo of the film slows to a crawl and the most surreal images and scenes begin creeping in. Even the most seemingly simple scenes such as a young Shinji playing in a sandbox with a swing, mountains, and a setting sun in the background is just rife with symbolism (hint: try to relate everything in this scene with something in the show, be it scenes, characters, or themes). Here, the psychological interplay between the main characters is crucial, as Shinji's wishes are played out in the real world. When he feels that everyone has deserted him and essentially says 'everyone can just die' is when the Instrumentality and joining of all souls through Lilith really begins.
What's important to note is Shinji's thoughts after his 'choice' has been made. The place he escapes to - the world of Instrumentality where all souls are one - and his questioning of this choice and all his choices is what we see here. More than just his questioning of the choice, we also hear him questioning the meaning of reality and dreams. This is not just random philosophical ramblings. It's a study of a character's, as well as the creator's, thoughts and feelings. Shinji holds all of humanity's future in his hands or, more accurately, his own mind. When you consider how psychologically scarred Shinji is, the idea that he can completely shape the future of Earth and all of humankind is what makes this so interesting.
Once he is allowed to be in the world he escapes to, he's faced with another choice of whether to stay or come back. As he discusses these things with Rei and Kaworu (Lilith and Adam), we hear his final choice and reasons why. The ending of EoE, titled "One More Final: I Need You" is rightfully confusing to almost everyone who sees it. However, it's also the perfect note to end the series with. Not only does it leave us as uncertain as the characters are about the future, but it also expresses the frustration and realization of Shinji's choice and the culmination of all the struggles that has lead them there.
This film is simply a divine marvel. Much like the series it has to be watched multiple times for one to uncover all of its hidden layers and meanings. But it doesn't lose its ability to invoke emotions and thoughts even after several viewings. There are scenes of immense power and drama in the film - many that match the best of most films I've seen. But I think it's the quiet moments that make this film so moving and memorable. The Sandbox scene is one I've mentioned. Another is the live action shots with the monologue and Bach's magnificent "Jesus Bleibet Meine Freude" (Jesus, Joy of Man's Desiring) playing along on piano with it. Even more subtle moments, such as Shinji's SDAT (walkman type) player out of batteries (more significant than many would think), and Gendo's broken glasses in Rei's place. With the vivid beginning of Instrumentality played out to the appropriate sad-song-with-a-pop-beat "Komm Susser Tod" (Come Sweet Death), it's these scenes that never fail to give me chills.
There's a great quote that goes something like "A truly wise man always has more questions than answers." This is a series and film that asks more questions than it provides answers. What it tries to do is make you think about those questions, rather than provide an easily digestible story. Some may call the story incoherent and disjointed, but what many don't realize is that the deep psychological and philosophical leanings behind the show are inextricably linked with the storyline itself. So to distinguish one from the other is impossible without realizing how the two intertwine and effect the other. If you merely try to breakdown the sci-fi storyline, then you will be confused by much of it. This is because the story is so big and so encompassing that many finer details can't be uncovered without diving deep into the inner workings of the series.
In the end, I can only speak for myself when I say NGE did a superlative job of doing everything a great work of art should do. It made me laugh, it made me cry, it gave me chills on more than one occasion.... but most of all it made me THINK. Anyone who wants to enjoy this show as just a meaningless work of science fiction can do so, but will be baffled as they're crushed by the multiple layers of extra contextual meanings. So, if you want to understand NGE, you have to not only pay close attention to the small details within the show (small scenes from many episodes back play a role in the film), you have to really open your mind up to the ideas being presented, and how they effect the story.
However, taken as a film, and the conclusion to the NGE series, End of Evangelion is a staggering achievement and powerful last testament to what is, in my opinion, the greatest visual series of all time.
*DVD NOTES:
Those considering whether to buy just the EoE or the EoE/Death & Rebirth 2-pack, I suggest you go with the EoE unless you don't own the director's cuts of the last several episodes (available in the Platinum Collection). 'Death' is mostly a muddled re-crap of the entire series, while 'Rebirth' is merely the first 30 minutes of EoE. Death also doesn't contain remastered visuals or audio like the Platinum Collection does, so you'll be getting a low quality re-cap at that. Inuyasha, The Movie 1 - Affections Touching Across Time (2004) Review

(More customer reviews)This movie is great! Even though I've only seen it in Japanese with English subtitles as of yet, I loved it! (It'll be just as good, if not better, in English). About the movie: first of all, neither it nor any of the other 2 movies currently released in Japan have to do with the tv episodes. The story is completely different. I'd say this movie takes place after at least the 54th episode though, after Inuyasha has already learned the Backlash Wave. In the movie, a demon from China called Matenmaru (another moth demon like Gatenmaru) tricks Inuyasha into using Tetsusaiga to break the seal on his "inheritance"--his family's powers--making him invincible (he was already immortal before his ultimate powers were unleashed). Now, it is up to Inuyasha and company to defeat him! In addition to lots of action, there are also some touching moments between Inuyasha and Kagome in this movie. ;) Any fan of the tv show is sure to love this movie!!! (By the way, the second movie is great too--Inuyasha and Kagome KISS in it!! however, they only kiss once, and briefly, and this does not affect their relationship in the episodes at all.)
