The show consistently demonstrates that brilliantly written characters, a diverse cast, lots of romance, and loads of drama set in the fast-paced world of surgery makes for an wonderful combination. The 27 episodes of Season 2 build on the brilliance of season 1, delivering a knockout performance that is a must buy for any Grey's fan.
Grey's Anatomy is about the lives and loves of 5 young surgical interns at Seattle Grace Hospital. Placed in the most competitive and grueling internship a hospital has, Grey's follows the doctors as they learn to become surgeons from some of the best in the business. Season 1's nine episode run saw romance blossom between surgeries with intern Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and attending physician Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) as well as intern Christina Yang (Sandra Oh) and attending surgeon Preston Burke (Isiah Washington). Sparks also flew between fellow interns Dr. Izzy Stevens( Katherine Heigl) and Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) while Dr. George O'Malley (T.R McKnight) nursed an unrequited love on housemate Meredith. Every episode was filled with romance, comedy, drama, and tension.
Season 2 delivers more of the same, beginning with Derek's previously unknown wife, Addison (Kate Walsh) showing up at Seattle Grace to try to win back her busband, who left her after she slept with his best friend. Confronted with two women he loves, Derek is forced to choose between them, a choice that would have wide reaching consequences. That choice and its consequences have become the central theme for the entire second season. Other continuing story arcs are Christina and Burke's developing relationship, Izzy's and Alex's growing chemistry (thrown for a loop with the arrival of heart patient Denny), and Meredith's still unfinished feelings for Derek, which in season 2 cause her to do some incredibly dumb things, including breaking fan favorite George's heart. Series creater Shonda Rimes and the rest of the writing staff don't shy away from making controversial choices with the plots, as evidenced in the shocking 3-hour season finale.
Week after week this is hands down the most addictive show on television. This show gets you so interested in the characters, some days you will love them and some days hate them, but you never stop watching them. Thanks to the guys at tvshowsondvd, we know that the 6-disc box set contains over 5 hours of Grey's extras, including extended version episodes of Thanks for the Memories, It's the End of the World, What Have I Done to Deserve This, and Losing My Religion, a fan roundtable featurette with the cast answering questions from fans, a Bailey featurette, set tour with Dr. Webbe, tons of deleted scenes, and several audio commentaries. The set is mixed in 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound, with a 1.78:1 aspect ratio. If you have never seen Grey's, pick up both the first and second season sets. One of the best shows on television and Highly Recommended.

(More customer reviews)I'm disturbed to see how negative people are giving the reviews of season 3. Granted, they could have done more in depth with the relationships, but I think they have a purpose. I think they want the show to last as long as the contract they have with ABC and then some, but if everything were to go perfect, the show would get dull. I believe this season, the theme was that fairytales don't always have a happy-ending. That life isn't going to be perfect and things aren't going to work out just because you hope it does. There was a lot of miscommunication or not at all. Perhaps Season 4 will change things up a bit.
Don't look too much in the reviews, I love watching the show, whether if it's not to my wanting meredith/derek together. I love the chemistry between them, the storylines, and the cases they have. If you love the show, don't dismiss this just because of the negative reviews.

Somewhere halfway through this 5th season, I decided it would be my last. I was even tempted to stop right then and there. I think this happened around the same time that Izzie was having mind-boggling sex with Denny (the dead ex).But I decided to wait until the end. Who knows why?
And I am so glad I did. I have just finished watching the season finale. I have been downloading the episodes from iTunes since the season will not be out in DVD for a while. I still wanted to write a review in case you are hesitating to buy this season.
So without further delay or hesitation I say BUY IT. The 2nd half of the season more than makes up for the weaknesses in the first half, and the season finale is so good that it's worth to get it just for this. Well, to be honest, the season finale is devastating. So much so that it reignites your desire to watch the show and come back for the 6th Season.
But getting back to Season 5....there are a few reasons why this season is very good:
1. The Derek/Meredith situation is resolved and this is great. It is good to see a happy ending to these 2, especially after 4 years of following their ups and downs. The show's creator wanted to deliver this to the fans and she made the right call on this. I think people would have been turned off if Meredith and Derek had split permanently or if their story would have kept being dragged on.
2. What started as the unlikely couple of Sloan and Lexi, has developed into a really nice story line where he sheds his playboy lifestyle for a more committed relationship. Lexi's character is also growing quite nicely, from an almost defenseless "little girl" to a mature woman that centers Sloan. They are also quite beautiful together as a couple, and well I'm really rooting for them....
3. Cali is finding happiness with Arizona. I love the Arizona character, and the actress that plays her is absolutely great. It is a treat to see this couple blossoming. It was a great decision to get rid of Cali's ex girlfriend...she was a bitter and sad person and not at all matched to Cali's lighthearted nature. Arizona's bubbly personality is great for Cali. I love how they wrote in her skating around the hospital....On the other hand she has been instrumental in Dr. Bailey's discovery of her softer side and her preference for pediatrics as her specialty.
4. Christina and Owen are going through major bumps, but there's an intensity to their relationship that is great to watch, and by the end of the season, it's nice to see how their story evolves.
5. While I was annoyed with Izzie's and Denny's story line, Katherine Heigl gives a great performance towards the end of the season, and so does the actor that plays Alex Karev. Alex's character, so rough at times, shows an increased sensitivity as Izzie gets sicker, and well, it's heart-wrenching to see his pain.

6. The fact that George walks Izzie down the aisle is sweet and poignant.
7. The moment when Meredith realizes that George is John Doe is one of the most powerful scenes I have seen on TV. I had to watch it a couple of times and plan to go back to it. She was amazing in that scene.
8. When Izzie faces George, you realize that this could very well be the last time you see these 2 actors together. One of them will surely die, perhaps both..... and this is just devastating.....
Now, apparently in real life, Katherine Heigl has stated that she wants to come back to the show, while Knight has stayed quiet on the subject. So it's very likely George will die and Izzie will make it.....but it would just be wonderful if they both make it.It's a credit to the writing that after being fed up with one and indifferent to the other, I now desperately wish for their return.
9. Finally, the most amazing part of this season is that in watching events unfold and listening to Meredith's voice over in the season finale, you realize what a powerful lesson you are learning from the show. We must tell the people we love how we feel, how important they are to us, how they have changed our lives; because everything can change in a second. I plan to do just that as soon as my husband walks in the door tonight.
If this can be done by a TV show, then there is greatness in it.
I am hooked all over again. You will be too.

(More customer reviews)In season 3 of Grey's Anatomy everything fell apart. Everything that could go wrong did. George and Callie split, Izzie and George made a huge mistake (in my opinion) in trying to make things work out. Meredith feared commitment and Derek wanted to commit. And in the aftermath of Meredith's near death experience, she finally broke down. And then there is Burktina (Cristina and Burke)...which never happened. Like I said, everything that could go wrong did. Season 3 was about breaking the characters, exploring them and making all the mistakes. Season 4 is about mending and fixing those mistakes.
This season started slowly, painfully slow I shall say. The characters seemed stuck, all of them. And try as they might, they were unable and unwilling to change. Then, it happened, slowly, but surely, they started to evolve. They started to look beyond themselves and their problems and they started to grow and mature.
The first half of the season (pre-Writer's Strike) was slow and all consuming within itself; it refused to be bothered with the world around it. The first half of the season brought in a lot of change, but none of the characters were equipped or willing to deal with it. Cristina refused to confront her non-wedding, Meredith was still reeling from her near-death experience and her inability to commit with Derek. Nevermind the fact that she has to deal with a new sister! Izzie and George had to deal with a new relationship and a failed one. Alex had himself and Ava to deal with. We also saw some new characters and some characters leave. All in all the first half of the season was horrible, stale, and unable to foster change.
And then the strike happened, and the creative juices must have been at their peak because what we saw in those 5 last episodes was pure brilliance. The characters finally exploded into full blooded beings in our TVs, they were finally in route to who they are supposed to become and they are finally a testament to what Grey's Anatomy is supposed to be: great, emotional and captivating.
I mark the beginning of the change with the arrival of Addison, she came in waltzing in her Zen zone and her unwillingness to get stressed out and reminded everyone of who they are supposed to be and what they are supposed to be doing, all the meanwhile getting stressed herself. The show then became magnificent; my blasé viewing of the show went out the window and FINALLY I became engaged in it once more. The second half of the season was so good that I made every other crappy episode worth it. It even made season 3 worth it because we finally got to see our characters evolve. Thus, whereas Season 3 was the breaking apart of everything, this Season 4 was the mending and evolution of Grey's Anatomy.

Seasons 4 and 5 weren't my favourites, but Season 6 was MUCH more like the Grey's I'd come to know and love. I actually cared about what was happening. Can't wait for next year!

(More customer reviews)I loved this movie when it first came out OK, so the actings not great at all, and the casting could have been better BUT after whoever finally decided to release this movie on DVD, they gave MINIMUM EFFORT in its creation.
DO IT PROPERLY, OR DON'T DO IT AT ALL!
LIST OF PROBLEMS
1) Several Scenes are missing on the DVD version eg, Richard Greicos' love scene when they go to meet Sam Rothestein. Basically on the UNCUT version on VHS he just takes one of the ladies at the party by the hand and they go off to a room together and he starts to seduce her by moving an ice pick gently all over her body while talking softly to her about how to kill somebody properly, after finishing telling her how to kill a man properly he slides off the top with the ice pick.
In this DVD version, his love scene is cut back dramatically, basically he takes off one side of her top with the ice pick, kisses her, then takes off the other side. no talking about how to kill a man properly. Whoever decided to cut the footage back, deserves to be shot. It just made the scene SOOO much more tasteless, almost made it look like D grade soft porn.
Another Scene missing from this is a beautiful scene where Charlie and his Dancer girlfriend are out on a picnic and they get caught in a rain storm
Another scene is where Charlie runs away from Farenzano at
Staten Island
Who knows what else is missing, these were just to name a few.
2) When it says BONUS on the DVD menu, I actually thought I was getting a BONUS! Silly me, after watching the movie and accessing the so called BONUS option on the DVD menu like I usually do after watching a DVD, I was left dumb founded and bitterly disappointed when the only 2 options of the so called BONUS material were 3 trailers, 2 of which look almost exactly the same and the other bonus was a picture of 3 other DVD's that are recommended for viewing. This is one of the worst cases of getting ripped off on a DVD that I have ever experienced.
I'll stick to my full UNCUT VHS version and pray that it survives until the next version of this DVD comes out again, hopefully a director's cut.
Message for the next makers of this film on DVD:
-DO IT PROPERLY, OR DON'T DO IT AT ALL
-DON'T CUT CORNERS TO MAKE THE LENGTH OF THE FILM SHORTER
-GIVE US BONUS MATERIALS THAT IS ACTUALLY CONSIDERED A BONUS, eg interviews, history documetaries, etc

Made of Honor (2008) Review

(More customer reviews)And a rainy day. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the film.
Tom (Dempsey) and Hannah (Monaghan) met at a Cornell costume bash 10 years before when a drunken Tom, dressed as President Clinton, stumbled into a dorm room and a girl's bed thinking he'd found "Monica". Turned out he'd gotten the wrong girl. "Monica" was Hannah's inebriated roomie.
They were friends from that moment, sharing Sundays, confidences, and desserts. Tom didn't know how much they shared til Hannah headed for Scotland and stayed gone six weeks. He was ready to propose when she came back, but she returned with a man, Colin (McKidd).
Hannah and Colin were going to be wed in Scotland in two weeks and Hannah couldn't think of anyone she wanted to be her Made of Honor more than her longtime best friend. Tom reluctantly accepted, secretly agreeing to become the best maid of honor and wreck the wedding.
What happens had me laughing until tears streamed down my face. I needed the break and "Made" defintely offered it. Tom hosting the wedding shower was a screamer--particularly when the jealous female friend who wanted to be the "MOH" set him up with a sex toy salesperson and Hannah's sweet Grandma ended up with a necklace of 'thunderbeads.' Then, of course, there was the Highland Games with Tom and Colin tacitly competing for Hannah's hand, Tom dressed in a mini kilt. (Nope, he wasn't dressed regimental--darn!)
Director Sydney Pollack showed up in a rare movie role as Tom's oft-wed Dad. The prenup agreement with Wife 5 (or was it 6, Dad can't remember) had me roaring. The car with the intended bride had to literally go around the block at the church to iron out last-minute details.
Plus, the scenery from Scotland was amazing. I recognized some places I'd been a few years before--and definitely remembered the flock of Hieland Coos stopping traffic on mainstreet.
The music was good, a mix of contemporary plus some old Scottish tunes. I notice there's no soundtrack available. I hope there will be one. It was a pretty decent collection.
The film's what you'd expect and yet, it's still entertaining. And, sometimes you just need something that's a gimme when it's a rainy day and a cheap laugh will lift a few clouds.

Freedom Writers (Widescreen Edition) (2007) Review

Amazon's has it all right in their comments on this underrated, wonderfully acted, and fair treatment of our current education system that all too often gives up on what it considers the "undesirables" present in every school, the teachers who think that they know it all (both villain and heroine in this film), and the kids who believe that they have no reason to even try to prove others wrong.
The dialogue is blisteringly realistic, sensitive, insightful, and painfully honest most of the time. In many ways there are no real villains in this film although there are two specific teachers who attempt to give Swank's character difficulty either because she is attempting to succeed where others have failed, or because she thinks she is better than others or has the key to her students' success if others would just get out of her way. It's easy to see the veteran teachers' resentment for Swank as Gruwell. She is brash, naive, overconfident, obsessive, and appears to want to outshine her colleagues although that really isn't her intent, but one can see how a veteran teacher would see her as a threat to their status which they feel, and rightly so to some degree, have earned. Simply because these older veteran teachers may not be as "on fire" as Gruwell, who is new to the profession, doesn't mean they aren't still dedicated. In their defense, Gruwell really does just dismiss their experience, expertise, and dedication to the education profession because they have become a bit more jaded by their life experiences in this profession. She does come off rather self-righteous at the wrong times such as when she's actually seeking help. Talk about ironic.
As a 17 year veteran teacher myself I understand those veteran teachers in the film, but I also recall being Gruwell's age with all its enthusiasm, shakey confidence, and out to prove something mentality. I have greatly learned to appreciate and love the new teachers that come into my school because they have the opportunity to succeed where I may have failed and the students will benefit from that, but it does have its pains too. I know that that glorious time is somewhat behind me now and passing the torch is hard. It's also hard to see one's own light diminishing while another is being lit. I think younger teachers need to be sensitive to that and Swank's character, Gruwell, is rather harsh and judgmental to those that don't "get" her style. In fact, she is so harsh that her single-minded focus doesn't let her feel others' emotional pain that her success is causing. She appears to only be focused on her mission and her kids and while that can be praiseworthy, it can be narrow-minded and heartless too. Sadly, her obsessive nature causes her marriage to collapse. She NEVER sees that coming and that is all the more sad as it shows how clueless she is regarding her own actions while so easily condeming others. In the end, neither Gruwell or her husband really comes off as the "bad guy" at the end of that relationship although people are bound to take sides. I think he's pretty shallow and weak for not standing up for himself or his marriage more until it hits a point of no return. There is plenty of fault to go around.
This is compelling film making and my wife and I talked for hours after viewing this film as she recalls my early days in education and how I am now after years of battling and bowing to belligerent parents who never believe their kid could do any wrong, abusive and manipulative students who know the system is mostly on their side now, condescending administrators who believe they have the answers when they are no longer even in the classroom environment, and demonizing politicians who always see us as the reason for all the ills in society. To add insult to injury after many years of dedication, new young teachers often come in displaying little respect to veterans as they see others not giving us respect. It's sad that they so often don't see their futures in us.
I praise new young teachers like Gruwell and world experienced but new teachers like Jamie Escalante (Stand and Deliver) and all such teachers who battle the odds to make a difference in the lives of their students. If anyone gets anything out of this film, I would hope it's a sense that all deserve respect. Films in this genre all too typically demonize the veteran teachers as has-beens who have just given up, praise the young upstart regardless of their flawed attitude at times, and put students on the same playing field as adults which they are not. This film breaks this genre's stereotypes quite a bit. I felt sincerely sorry for the disenchanted and disrespected veterans even though they were combative and jealous. I felt great respect and empathy for the young new teacher, Gruwell, for trying to make a positive change, but upset with her condescending and self-absorbed, callous attitude at times toward her colleagues and husband. I, lastly, felt great compassion for the students portrayed in this film who all too often society feels are "throwaways."
This is the kind of film that lingers in your mind long after the viewing of it is over. This film is worth renting if not owning. Enjoy.
