They just add some musical fun and excitement to the videos and they're so catchy, you will sing them all the time, I know I sometimes find myself singing them. I'm sure little kids will want to watch this over and over and over again. Here are the music videos:

Peter Sam arrives at the station a bit late and Henry tells him that if he is late again, he will just leave the station without the passengers. The next day, Peter Sam is must take the Refreshment Lady along with some passengers. Determined not to be late, Peter Sam starts quickly, but ends up leaving the Refreshment Lady behind.
Bulldog 5/5:
One day, Duke and Falcon had to take some passengers through the old railway. Falcon didn't listen to Duke's advice about looking at the tracks and ends up coming off of the tracks and Duke must try his hardest to pull him back on track.
Overall, great Thomas video. Great for musical fans like me and for fans of the little engines. I hope my review has helped you.

(More customer reviews)We are very unhappy with this particular video. When you purchase Molly, Dennis or Neville, there is a description that they make "their debut" in this video. The ONLY place Molly appears is in one of the songs and it is only for a split second. My 3 1/2 yr old is very sad and said, "this is very strange, where is Molly?" He recieved her for Christmas and has been waiting for this video to come out. He finally earned enough reward points only to be dissapointed! How awful!

(More customer reviews)I read a review of a first-time Thomas viewer with a 20 month old who said she was shocked by the behavior of the trains--I can identify with that: My wife and I bought about six of them at once because they were on sale, only to be dissappointed by how mean some of the characters are. We've since come to love the videos, tho, since our little boy got interested in them, and sibling rivalry has erupted between he and his slightly older sister. Thomas and his friends act like children. Sometimes children aren't very kind either, but the engines respond to the gentle-but-firm redirection of the "parent" (Sir Topham Hatt). I think my kids love these (and I do, too) because they can identify with the simple sorts of conflicts the engines have with each other and the other characters, they appreciate the boundaries and safety of the parental character, and it allows them to explore conflict and authority in a way that is meaningful to them--the fact that Sir Topham Hatt has to step in and resolve a conflict from time to time is a plus in my opinion. My 2 year old son is an absolute Thomas nut--he has most of the vids and the wooden trains and plays with them all the time. (My daughter loves Thomas, too, but she's not in the same league of Thom-ism that my son enjoys. Frankly, the shows are more weighted toward little boy issues, if you ask me.) I've always loved trains, too, so it's a natural for me. These vids win you over--the production quality and attention to detail is just astonishing. But what ultimately wins you over is the realization that despite the perception we parents frequently have that children are naturally "nice" until corrupted by some outside influence, the reality is that we must all learn to deal with conflict and authority, and that theme is presented nowhere in children's entertainment as well as it is in the Thomas series of videos and books. I highly recommend them to anyone, but especially if you have a little boy.

The Engines do not look roght and they move very differently! Also the the opening where it says Thomas & Freinds-What??? That's not the song! Please I really am telling you DO NOT BUY THIS ONE! IT IS HORRIBLE:(!!

(More customer reviews)First of all, let me say that I love Thomas the Tank Engine. My 6-year-old son has loved Thomas for 3+ years running and I am very grateful for all the good times the three of us have had. That having been said, this is a compilation VHS. You will not find any new stories on this one. However, it is worth viewing (and getting, if you don't have a big collection) if you have children. We got this as a gift from friends, so having duplicates of the stories was not a big problem with us. Interspersed between the stories is what seems to be an advertisement for the "Day Out With Thomas." It is interesting to watch, but is not informative for one actually thinking about participating in one of the programs.
ABOUT THE STORIES:
The 10 stories (4 more than the usual offering) featured on the video are as follows:
Thomas & Bertie's Great Race: This is one of the formative Thomas stories and is a welcome addition to anyone's collection. This particular episode is referenced in several subsequent episodes.
Old Iron: This is a charming story where Edward saves the day. However, this one is frequently recycled on Thomas' compilations. We already have it on at least 3 videos.
The Trouble With Mud: Fans of Gordon the Big Blue Engine will appreciate this one. It is included on the Best of Gordon video as well.
Terence the Tractor: This is another story which is essential to Thomas lore. Terence and his funny caterpillars save the day when Thomas get stuck in the snow. The song "Don't Judge a Book by its Cover" is based on this one.
Percy's Ghostly Trick: This is a cute little story where Percy gets to play a little trick on Thomas.
Mavis: This story features the lovely little diesel as well as an always-lovable Toby. Toby has to show impatient Mavis the ropes in this one.
Henry the Elephant: The circus is on the Island of Sodor and the engines are always ready to be really useful, even when 5 tons of pachyderm are on the line. This is a charming story which is not on any of our other collections.
Percy's Promise: Percy saves the day and does not let axle-deep water put a cramp in his style.
James Goes Buzz-Buzz: We also have this episode on the Best of James collection, but it is a good story and features some nice stop-action animation as well as little-seen figures such as the Vicar.
All at Sea: Duck wonders about life beyond the horizon in this lovely story. Harold the Helicopter puts aside his usual haughtiness to help him out. I've never seen this one, so it was a treat for my son and I.
Thomas' Anthem Grand Finale: A rousing musical way to end a very well-spent hour on the tracks.
George Carlin is the narrator for all 10 of the stories and he provides suitable voices for all the characters. I enjoy hearing him, although he is not as lovable as the quirky Ringo Starr.
All in all, this video is well worth watching and would be a great way to start a new Thomas lover's collection. Check it out if you get a chance!
ABOUT THE DVD:
This one is a little short on features, but the transfer is exceptional. Since kids, like mine and perhaps yours too, will want to see this repeatedly, it is comforting to know that unlike the video, this DVD will not wear out as long as we keep the DVD out of harm's way.

Thomas & Friends: The Great Discovery Review

(More customer reviews)We saw this movie in the theater (it is showing in July in various states). The screenplay was really well written and the movie was really well done. Pierce Brosnan is a superb narrator and does some really great engine voices; he is the best Thomas narrator yet. Even my husband enjoyed it, and he generally dislikes watching Thomas (I think it was partly the James Bond connection with Pierce, and partly how well the movie was done). The storyline: Thomas accidentally discovers an abandoned town on Sodor. A new engine (Stanley) is called in to do Thomas' work while Thomas supervises the restoration of the discovered town ...Stanley is a really nice, fun, hard-working engine and doesn't mean any ill will whatsoever towards Thomas....and Thomas ends up becoming very jealous of Stanley and how well he works and gets along with the other engines & characters (including Percy and Annie & Clarabel). By the end of the movie Stanley and Thomas become friends and both can see how the other engine must have felt. Great starting point for discussing jealousy and how to handle it with your preschooler.

Thomas & Friends: Hero of the Rails Review

(More customer reviews)The fourth Thomas movie down the line (after "Thomas and the Magic Railroad", "Calling All Engines", and "The Great Discovery"), "Hero of the Rails" makes the biggest change in Thomas's history so far; the entire film is done in CGI animation produced by Nitrogen Studios in Canada. All of the characters are now individually voiced, although Micheal Brandon returns to narrate through the film.
In the story, Spencer, a big silver engine from the mainland, is visiting Sodor to help build a private summer house. Thomas, after being teased about his size, foolishly tries to compete with Spencer, but ends up crashing onto an abandoned old line. There he finds Hiro, an old abandoned engine who once worked on Sodor long ago. Wanting to prevent him from being scrapped, Thomas promises to help return him to his former glory, along with the help of Victor and Kevin (a steam engine and a crane, respectively), who work at Sodor's famous "Steamworks". Along the way, he has to avoid the suspicious eyes of Spencer, and keep Hiro's secret from Sir Topham Hatt.
Not spoiling the end of the story, it's vaguely similar to "Magic Railroad", but it was fantastically executed overall. Hiro's character is very believable and likable, and Victor and Kevin make a wonderful pair on-screen. The story's moral is laid in through the narration, but isn't thrown right into the viewer's face, unlike most children's films, which is a refreshing change.
The film's main focus, however, is the new animation. While the original model series was wonderful, the new CGI is a breath of fresh air. The moving faces give a whole new life to the characters, and each locomotive looks as realistic as they can be. The backgrounds, scenery, and buildings are far more detailed than something I would have expected from a film for children. There are plenty of new camera angles, too, that could never have been achieved with the models, such as shots from under the engine, or swooping shots of two engines racing side by side, or panoramic shots of morning skies across massive mountains.
The voice acting is fantastic as well. Thomas's new voice fits his personality to the tee. Hiro has a gentle Japanese accent, which suits him very well. Michael Brandon does an even better job at narrating than ever, and he really helps to bring the story to life. I would advice the scriptwriters to work more on the actual lines though; the format used in the film gets repetitive over time (for example, "Thomas's wheels whirred and wobbled" "Thomas's boiler was bubbling" or "his pistons were pounding) and the "phrases" the engines use come and go ("Fizzling fireboxes!" "Blistering boilers!" "Rattle my rods!" "Cinders and ashes!").
Overall, however, I feel that "Hero of the Rails" is one of Thomas's best films yet, and I can't wait to see Thomas in his new animated format in the near future. HiT Entertainment and Nitrogen Studios put a lot of work and effort into this new film, and it shows. Old and new fans alike are sure to enjoy Thomas in his newest adventure.

(More customer reviews)I am always pleased when Thomas goes on a new adventure, my son loves Thomas and has since he was two years old, he is now 11 years old and he still watches all the videos and he comes on Amazon to look for new releases and lets me know so we can order them together, i know some of you are probably saying he is a bit old for Thomas, my son has Autism, but i think young and old love Thomas!

(More customer reviews)This is an adorable Thomas DVD. It is about learning to listen, rather than just assuming which is what Thomas does. My boys are only 2 and 3 years old and of course don't listen so I am hoping this DVD will kick something into gear for them! I also love it because it is in the new CGI animation so it is more brightly colored and animated than traditional Thomas. This DVD has a total of four great episodes and lots of extras, great DVD for the price!
