If you are an appreciator of things from abroad, and even if not, you've got to get this DVD. HOLY COW, funny and adorable. ALL I CAN SAY IS -- WATCH THE POLLY PARROT EPISODE. If you don't crack a smile there's something VERY wrong.
Peppa Pig was introduced to us through Noggin, a spin-off channel for preschoolers from the beloved Nickelodeon. When I first saw a Peppa Pig short with my daughter I was immediately smitten. If you are hesitant to purchase this DVD, maybe you can catch an episode on one of these channels if you have cable. Otherwise, maybe you could go to the Peppa Pig website and view one there.
Unfortunately, there are not many products (toys) available in the USA yet from this series unless you want to pay heaps of money to have it shipped from the UK. Hopefully that will change soon, because some of the products I've seen while searching around are sweet.

(More customer reviews)We are very unhappy with this particular video. When you purchase Molly, Dennis or Neville, there is a description that they make "their debut" in this video. The ONLY place Molly appears is in one of the songs and it is only for a split second. My 3 1/2 yr old is very sad and said, "this is very strange, where is Molly?" He recieved her for Christmas and has been waiting for this video to come out. He finally earned enough reward points only to be dissapointed! How awful!

(More customer reviews)I read a review of a first-time Thomas viewer with a 20 month old who said she was shocked by the behavior of the trains--I can identify with that: My wife and I bought about six of them at once because they were on sale, only to be dissappointed by how mean some of the characters are. We've since come to love the videos, tho, since our little boy got interested in them, and sibling rivalry has erupted between he and his slightly older sister. Thomas and his friends act like children. Sometimes children aren't very kind either, but the engines respond to the gentle-but-firm redirection of the "parent" (Sir Topham Hatt). I think my kids love these (and I do, too) because they can identify with the simple sorts of conflicts the engines have with each other and the other characters, they appreciate the boundaries and safety of the parental character, and it allows them to explore conflict and authority in a way that is meaningful to them--the fact that Sir Topham Hatt has to step in and resolve a conflict from time to time is a plus in my opinion. My 2 year old son is an absolute Thomas nut--he has most of the vids and the wooden trains and plays with them all the time. (My daughter loves Thomas, too, but she's not in the same league of Thom-ism that my son enjoys. Frankly, the shows are more weighted toward little boy issues, if you ask me.) I've always loved trains, too, so it's a natural for me. These vids win you over--the production quality and attention to detail is just astonishing. But what ultimately wins you over is the realization that despite the perception we parents frequently have that children are naturally "nice" until corrupted by some outside influence, the reality is that we must all learn to deal with conflict and authority, and that theme is presented nowhere in children's entertainment as well as it is in the Thomas series of videos and books. I highly recommend them to anyone, but especially if you have a little boy.

Teletubbies: Dance With the Teletubbies (1998) Review

(More customer reviews)My one-year-old boy loves this video. It's composed of the parts of the show he really likes; mostly dancing Teletubbies, and "baby sun face." The tubbies do a follow the leader dance, a splashing dance, and a stomping dance, plus a few others, I think.
As soon as I put in this video, my son started dancing, without any encouragement. Now, he's starting to try to trot when the video comes to the "trot-trot" part. This video makes him laugh and smile a lot, and calmed him down a lot when he couldn't sleep the night before a surgery. While the things it teaches aren't what most would consider "learning objectives" (dancing, trotting, waving bye-bye) it's definitely right at my son's learning level. A great investment if you have a kid age 10 months to 18 months, I think.

Strawberry Shortcake - The Sweet Dreams Movie (2006) Review

(More customer reviews)"The Sweet Dreams Movie" is the first ever CGI film for the "Strawberry Shortcake" series. It was shown in limited release in theatres and is now available on DVD.Positives:
- To me, the CGI animation really isn't bad. Though I was thrown off by the look of it at first, I quickly grew used to it. I found some of it to actually be rather nice-looking. I also thought that the characters looked for the most part like they do in the TV show. Certainly a better effort to me than the CGI for "Clifford's Really Big Movie" (mediocre) and "Arthur's Missing Pal." (Not good at all.)
- Music and songs --- the best highlight of the film. "How a Garden Grows" is a fast-paced, standout song and very catchy. A couple of other fun songs include "All it Takes" and "The Land of Dreams." The songs overall are berry nice and drive the plot along.
- Characters - This film introduces a number of new characters to the series. Doing this sort of thing is always a bit of a tightrope, but I think all of the new characters work fairly well here. Raspberry Torte, works well as a reluctant protagonist (looking out for Lemon Meringue) and even though the series doesn't necessarily need villains to make it interesting, Purple Pie Man and his sister Sour Grapes fill the role well enough.
- Story - A decent enough plotline, though a bit slow-starting. The Land of Dreams was a fun place to visit and I wouldn't mind seeing it in the series again.Negatives:
- No special features other than Spanish subtitles and previews for other releases on this DVD. Most of the other "Strawberry Shortcake" DVDs at least have a music video and other such direct-to-video (or near direct-to-video) DVD releases have managed to put together at least reasonably interesting special features, so there's no reason why this shouldn't have any.
- Strawberry Shortcake's sister Apple Dumplin' is once again absent-without-leave, a disappointment, as she is one of the best characters in the series. Huckleberry Pie and Blueberry Muffin are also nowhere to be found.This film, per the closing credits, was dedicated with love to Pam Carter, who served as a voice director for the series.

Thomas The Tank Engine And Friends - Hooray for Thomas Review

(More customer reviews)before I purchase a new Thomas video/DVD to check out the narrator. This particular DVD is narrated by Michael Brandon. I do not care for his voice. Of course, I am nostalgic for Ringo Starr, George Carlin, or, surprisingly, Alec Baldwin. Also, I prefer Michael Angelis (from "New Friends For Thomas") as a new narrator. I find Michael Brandon to be horribly inconsistent (and somewhat inappropriate and uninventive) with the character's voices. They vary from story to story and sometimes within the stories themselves. His voice is also too harsh in my opinion. My five-year-old who loves Thomas doesn't have much interest in the videos he narrates. This has not been the case with the other narrators.
The stories themselves are somewhat lacking as well. "Edward's Brass Band" features the sweetest engine on the railway, but you would never know it watching this story. Thomas and Bertie's race seemed half-hearted, and the stories about Rheneas, Skarloey, and Peter Sam lacked real feeling. I was also disappointed with the characterization of Rusty. His potential was also overlooked and the voice selected was terrible.
Overall, I am not very pleased with this video. Of course, I will continue to buy Thomas products in the future, but not without checking the back of the box. :)

Baby Einstein - Baby Van Gogh - World of Colors (2002) Review

(More customer reviews)We have all of the video products of the Baby Einstein Company. This video is more similar in format to Baby Shakespeare than the Baby Mozart / Baby Bach videos. Nevertheless, I would say that Baby Van Gogh is a better attention-getter and -holder than Baby Shakespeare. The visuals are much more professional and entertaining - the main content being color and art, as opposed to poetry readings.
If you are new to the Baby Einstein Company's products, I highly recommend them over the products of the competing companies (we have a VERY extensive childern's video library). The live-action visuals are far more engaging to infants and toddlers than the computer graphics and animation of other videos. In this respect (visually), Baby Van Gogh is even more dynamic than some of the earlier Baby Einstein productions - and certainly has a bit higher production quality. For babies under 6 months, however, I would recommend Baby Mozart as the best 'starter' in the series.
As with Baby Mozart, Baby Bach and Baby Einstein, my daughter (now almost nine months) cannot get enough of this video.

Pooh's Heffalump Movie (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)My wife, myself and our 5 and 3 year old just returned from watching this. We had been anticipating this film for sometime. This film was certainly worthy of our anticipation.
Pooh's Heffalump movie teaches valuable lessons about acceptance, prejudice and growing up. Beyond that it is a throughly entertaining and literal romp in the woods for the whole family.
While Pooh's name is on the title the star of this movie is really Roo. Roo is ultimately the catalyst of change in the film and carries the day very well.
In my opinion Pooh's Heffalump movie surpasses Piglet's big movie as the 2nd best Pooh movie of all time (Nothing in my mind will ever supplant The many of adventures of Winnie the Pooh as the best film in all of Poohdom). Not to give anything away, but I would encourage everyone who sees the movie to stay and watch the closing credits as there is a wonderful homage to Many Adventures that was laugh out loud funny.
As we were leaving the theatre my kids were already lobbying (no pun intended) to see the film again and again. And unlike many films kids want to watch over and over I wouldn't mind joining them.

Barbie Fairytopia - Magic of the Rainbow Review

(More customer reviews)My 4 year old has loved the Barbie Movies since she was 2 and this one, the third installment in the Fairytopia series did not dissapoint. I personally prefer the ones based on fairytales (Princess and the Pauper, Nutcracker, and Twevle Dancing Princesses) but I thought that this was the best movie of the Fairytopia series. The anamation is awesome. We saw this movie on Nickelodeon and recorded on our DVR. We have watched it at least once everyday since, great movie!

Open Season 2 Review

(More customer reviews)I had high hopes for this one as animation can look so pristine in BD, but I was in for a shock. Sony Animation was behind this, but it had the whole Cartoon Network look to it instead. The main voice talents from the first film did not come over,nor did any of the writing/production staff (and it shows).
The story is just ok, entailing friends helping and rescuing each other with plenty of adventure and rabbit abuse. One of the main characters is a dachshund so apparently the "wiener" humor is what passes for hilarity these days. While it has been playing in the store kids of all ages are entranced by it but the parents haven't been thrilled with the parts they have seen. The "..that lady pulled my wiener.." and "..my beautiful rack.." lines raise a few parent's eyebrows so it hasn't exactly been a hit like I had hoped.
The BD supplements are painful, including "deleted scenes" which were hand sketched and not worth the time. The "Weenie Arcade" has a horribly spliced "Who Let the Dogs Out" video by the Baha Men, a how to draw the animals tutorial, and a featurette about the faces behind the voices.
I loved Hoodwinked, even with that style of animation, and OS2 looks similar in nature (no pun meant) but is much less of a quality film. I have read where people say this an ideal family film, which nothing really offends me so I would watch it with my kids, but needless to say I lost a few rentals playing it in the store. And for a BD, not one of the memorable ones.

Well, this young boy, whom is played by Fred Savage, (the Wonder Years), soon discovers a whole knew world under his bed. He then meets this friendly young lookin' monster, named Maurice, helps him use his imagination and be able to do the impossible. If you're asking me, I think this film has so much imagination and wonders in it, anyone whose anyone, will enjoy this childlike fantasy. So, take my advise, buy this film, you won't regret it. Or you probably could catch it on cable. This is one magical movie that you could not miss!

Featuring live-action images of farms and farm animals interspersed with engaging visuals of puppets, children, toys, and real-world objects, it combines traditional nursery rhymes with the classical music of Schubert, Schumann and Strauss. This DVD has a calming effect on your baby while stimulating their early verbal skills. It's appropriate for introduction to baby around the age of 9 months but will continue to entertain through their second year.Most of the videos in the Baby Einstein series are designed as `video board books' for your baby and offer you the opportunity to interact with your child in the same way you do with books as well as act as a distraction for that deeply needed parental bathroom break. Most of the DVDs have the option to "play" or "repeat play" and are about 20-30 minutes in length -- the repetition being very stimulating and comforting to the younger set.
While I don't think viewing Baby Einstein DVDs will make my infant "smarter" she sure does enjoy them! They give me a great way to interact with her as well as a few minutes here and there to get a few things done around the house. Their ability to calm her when she's fussy is already legendary in our household.
Here is information on all the current 21 Baby Einstein DVDs including suggested times to introduce them to your little one. This information IS NOT available with the DVD sets but I gleaned it from several sources for my own use. You may like to print this out for future reference.

Kipper - Kipper Helps Out Review

(More customer reviews)This is the latest Kipper DVD to be added to our collection. It only has six stories, but they're really good ones.
We didn't get the earlier VHS editions, so all the stories are new to my four year old, who thoroughly enjoys them. As a matter of fact, my two year old nephew is now a convert.
The beauty of the DVD edition is the feature which allows you to choose an episode, or play them all, or play them all continuously, the last being the favorite pick at our house.
In "The Visitor", Kipper looks after a little lost gosling. This is a good story if your kids are really messy, as Kipper is continuously cleaning up after his little charge.
"Pig's Present" tells of Pig's birthday and all the pets he receives as gifts. The part with the hamster going through Kipper's "obstacle course" is great fun.
"The Butterfly" teaches that the best things in life should be free.
"The Bleepers" will have your kids speaking strangely, and eating lollipops.
Arnold is formally introduced in "Pig's Cousin" - I had previously thought they were brothers.
"The Little Ghost" is the most entertaining story of the lot, with the most "special effects" of any Kipper episode.
If you haven't already seen the early episodes, I strongly recommend this one. If not, borrow it just for "The Little Ghost"
