If you are looking for an 80s cartoon to bring back the good ol' days in animation you can stop here and click the "Add to Shopping Cart" button, because you have found THE most perfect 80s cartoon of all time. People of all ages, male or female will love this movie! Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer is full of colorful animation (excuse the pun) and great songs that just make you want to get up and dance like it's the 80s all over again.
Rainbow Brite must deal with her greatest adversary yet: an evil Princess who wants to take the greatest light in the world and keep it to herself, thus causing all of the color to disappear from the world. (no light = no colors!) This is an even bigger job than trying to fight Murky or Lurky! Along the way, Rainbow Brite meets a new friend and she learns that working together really does help. Only friendship and unselfishness can save the day!
This is a rare treat to find on the web, so if you really must have an 80s cartoon to keep you going, THIS IS A MUST HAVE! It definitely made my day (as it will over and over on my television set for years to come ^_~)!!

The Richie Rich/Scooby-Doo Show, Vol. One Review

I consider myself a child of the 80s, although this 1980 series pre-dates my ability to remember the original airing by at least a couple of years. However, having watched the set I recognize several of the episodes from later syndication and remember enjoying these a lot.
We have here two dual-layer (no double-sided) DVDs. The contents are divided into individual Richie Rich and Scooby Doo show segments, ranging from 7 to 12 minutes in length. Extra short Richie Rich "Gem" segments are appended to the end of the previous cartoon and are not listed in the menu. The cartoons from each hour episode are presented in sequential order in the menu. There is the ever-present "Play All" option, but there doesn't appear to be a way to select and play full hour episodes. The first cartoon from each episode has the original opening sequence, including mixed theme music and mixed animation of Richie and Scooby characters. The last cartoon from each hour has two separate closing credits in sequence -- not sure if one or both are original.
The cartoons pertaining to each hour episode are listed on the inside cover of the DVD jacket. The Richie cartoons do not appear to have title cards, just generic "Riches", "Treasure Chest" and "Zillion-Dollar Adventures" segment titles, so the actual cartoon titles are only visible in the menu and the jacket, and where they come from is anyone's guess (syndication titles maybe?).
I find the Richie Rich cartoons to be rather fun. The character designs are improved slightly from the comic book and Richie seems a bit older. I'm not otherwise familiar with the comic books or their stories, but the cartoon features adventures with Richie foiling crooks and solving problems, often with the help of his many wonderful gadgets and technology. There is his robot maid Irona, who can seemingly turn into anything, and the endless assortment of gadgets and gizmos provided by Professor Keenbean. The optimistic and unapologetic inclusion of so much gadgetry and fanciful technology is fun to watch. The animation is as good or better than most any H-B series, although the backgrounds are a little flat and the cartoon often resembles a side-scrolling game. However, Richie's world is bright and colorful and the action is fairly non-stop. Gloria's voice has a few Bart Simpson moments, but otherwise usually sounds like a young girl. I think kids today would still enjoy this cartoon immensely.
Then there are the Scooby Doo segments. Yes they have Scrappy. While far from my favorite character, in this early entry he's not THAT bad. I think some kind of third wheel was necessary to pull off this less (to use the term loosely) cerebral incarnation of Scooby Doo. Scrappy Doo is the catalyst that usually gets Shaggy and Scooby into trouble, followed by lots of fearful whimpering and running scared. The episodes are a short 7 minutes. Villains are often real monsters with real supernatural powers. There are no explanations, no mystery solving, no unmasking some phony in a costume. The stories are action packed and are meant to entertain with the non-stop comic antics of Shaggy and Scooby, running around scared out of their wits and trying to escape while keeping Scrappy from getting them into even more trouble. The short running times keep them watchable. They certainly seem targeted toward a younger audience than earlier Scooby Doo adventures, and would likely still be entertaining to younger children.
I'd say Warner Brothers did a better job on this release than some previous efforts. If this is the quality we can expect with these slimmer 2-disc Hanna-Barbera Classic Collection sets then I'm reasonably satisfied. Here's hoping more volumes come out with all the rest of Richie Rich and many other H-B properties still waiting in the wings.

(More customer reviews)I remember seeing this movie the first time on HBO when i was 9.. I loved it instantly, a girl receiving powers on her 16th birthday, which turns her life around and makes the best of it by getting popular, getting the guy of her dreams and doing what ever she wants, what more would she want. I wanted to be her. but then when i grew older seeing it again now at 23. She was happy only for a period of time, she wants the guy to love her for who she is and not her popularity and looks. I thought she was crazy to give up her powers. She should've kept em and let the spell wear off the guy of her dreams.
Favorite scenes were definitly when she changes her image, and the locker room dance and TOP That!!!
I sure enjoy watching this movie once in awhile, it's fun to watch, never get bored of it

(More customer reviews)When I was a kid, I loved to watch Scooby Doo in syndication. There was nothing better than sitting down with a bowl of cocoa puffs and waiting for that crazy dog to grace my tv screen. My favorite series? The 13 Ghost of Scooby Doo of course! It was something rare to see Cartoon Network play this particular series much though, considering there were atleast 5 other incarnations of Scooby to choose from, but when they would show it, I was ecstatic!
How has it held up over the years? Wonderfully! I just finished watching my set earlier this morning, and nostalgia has set in, and I am in awe. Let's do an episode run down.
1x01 - To All the Ghouls I've Loved Before - Scooby and his pals crash in the a creepy town where 2 ghost await their arrival.
1x02 - Scoobra Kaboobra - In this episode, the gang must face an evil warlock who is bent on discovering a magical wand to give him infinite magic.
1x03 - Me and My Shadow Demon - This particular episode is one of my favorites. Queen Morbidia is throwing a party, and of course she wants the chest, so why not trap the gang in an infinite maze?
1x04 - Reflections in a Ghoulish Eye - The gang must travel to an Arabian villiage to expel a demon from a haunted mirror.
1x05 - That's Monstertainment - Zomba the red fleshed demon decides that she'll trap the gang in an old black and white movie to obtain the chest.
1x06 - Ship of Ghouls - Poor Scooby is so scared now, that the gang decided to take him on a cruise. Unbeknownst to them, the cruise is ran by ghosts, and they're heading to the Bermuda triangle!
1x07 - A Spooky Little Ghoul Like You - Vincent Van Ghoul has won the most coveted Warlock award known, but a certain Demonstress wants his magic, so she puts him in a love trance. Cant the gang save him in time?
1x08 - When You Witch Upon a Star - Marcella, a demon wind wants to be flesh again, so she recruits 3 idiot witches to help her, the gang can outsmart the 3, but can they outsmart Marcella?
1x09 - It's A Wonderful Scoob - How will the team fare against a ghost who can control time? What would life be like if Scooby quit the team? Watch and see!
1x10 - Scooby in KwackyLand - Yet another demon is after the chest, but how will the gang save it if they're trapped in a comic strip?
1x11 - Coast to Ghost - Ol' Vince is turning to stone, how can the gang save him? By teaming up with Bogel and Weird to get half way across the US to obtain a special mask!
1x12 - The Ghouliest Show on Earth - Scooby and the gang need a break, so they head back to Scooby's home town, little do they know, an evil circus has risen!
1x13 - Horror-scope Scoob - The finale! How can the gang stop the most powerful demon from stealing the chest? They may not!
Characters
Scooby - Our hungry hero who unexpectedly opens the chest releasing the spirits.
Shaggy - Scooby's owner, who is almost as dimwitted as Scooby!
Scrappy - Scooby's nephew, the mean bulldog stuck inside a pup's body! He's itchin to start a fight!
Daphne - The only sane person of the core 4, and the only female to boot.
FlimFlam - The fast talking, pint sized con artist.
Vincent Van Ghoul - Voiced by Vincent Price, he's the warlock that helps the team (Ala Charlie from Charlie's Angels)
Bogel and Weird - 2 idiot ghosts that try to foil the plans of the team.
DVD Set
The set is a nice one, the episodes, although grainy are in great shape. They have included subtitles and other languages also. The biggest problem that I have with the set? Every episode had a small segment before the opening credits that usually showed the featured ghost. Well, with the set, some of the episodes play the credits before the short opening, while other's keep the original order. These episodes are also uncut. The only features included are a video game preview, and an episode of one of the new incarnations of Scooby doo.
All in all, its a great set, so dont pass up on it.

In The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo, mystery and mayhem prevail when Scooby-Doo and Shaggy accidentally set free a pack of troublemaking spooks. On a trip to Honolulu, Daphne's plane winds up landing in Tibet.While visiting a temple, Scooby and Shaggy are tricked into opening the Chest of Demons, which houses 13 of the most-frightening ghosts and ghouls to ever haunt the earth.The ghosts however, can only be returned to the chest by those who originally released them.
