Hung: The Complete First Season Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)Hung started about the same time as True Blood season two. After the second episode I was hooked! The main character is a high school history teacher and basketball coach whose house burns down, children want to live with his ex-wife and he's broke broke broke. He meets up with a poet who he once (ahem) and together they hatch a harebrained scheme to pimp him and his ... out. Through this he has to deal with women he isn't attracted to but learns to love what's under the skin, crazy women who pay for him but not his "services" and the working in's and out's of women. Meanwhile his pimp, Tanya, is suffering as a failed poet and drowning in her own lack of love in her life. Bumps and bruises along the way but every episode bring laughter and smiles to my face (and my husbands!).
The characters learn and even though they get a lot more bad than good cards, they always grow. I'm very pleased with the direction this new series is going and sit in anticipation every Sunday night when my little red dot that indicates my DVR is recording blinks on. Hung is a lot more than I had anticipated and am tickled with the gem found under dirty gym socks and a slathering of sexual innuendo.

Katt Williams: American Hustle The Movie Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)When you watch American Hustle, get ready for an experience like now other. American Hustle is a meshing of a cinematic intro with the side-splitting comedy of Katt Williams and company. The feature starts with Katt getting ready for a important Hollywood meeting to discuss movie possibilities starring the up-and-coming superstar. He ultimately passes on the ridiculous movie pitches and ventures out back on the road with fellow comics Red, Luenell, and Melanie Camacho. The four comics and Katt's dog hit the road for 20-city, 40-show tour that eventually culminates to the final show in Chicago. And it is at this point that viewers are treated to the feature-length concert footage of Katt Williams. The DVD closes with Katt Williams sharing the stage and the mic with Chi-Town's own Da Brat and everybody's favorite honorary pimp Snoop Dogg.
Packaged as a theatrical comedy, American Hustle evolves mostly around Katt's stand-up, a routine that can basically be deemed Pimp Chronicles 2. The material is original and will have you laughing out loud. Although we are treated to a handful of stand-up scenes from Red, Luenell, and Melanie, it would have been nice to actually see more of their routine, if not their entire sets. But the material that we are treated to is nothing short of hilarious, with Luenell giving the funniest anecdotes of the three. And of course Katt's spin on life, love, and relationships is on par with everything else that the budding star has showcased, including its predecessor The Pimp Chronicles Part 1. With extended footage of the skit 'Brokebeak Penguins', and his spoof on the movie 300, and about a dozen outtakes, this DVD is unique in its presentation and captures the ingenious comedic styling of Katt Williams. Any fan of Katt Williams will not be disappointed with American Hustle.

American Pimp (2000) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)If this film can be summed up into one word, it's "Edutainment". Believe it or not, this film is not only immensely entertaining, but it is educational as well. All our lives we've seen images of pimps in TV shows and movies, dressed up in their purple snakeskin outfits and acting like clowns - but "American Pimp" illustrates what real-life pimps are really like.
Ok, so some of the pimps ARE a bunch of guys dressed up in purple outfits acting like clowns, but this documentary shows the side of "pimpin'" that you've never seen. You'll learn about "the game" and how pimps get "knocked" for not keeping tight reins on their "hoes." You'll also see how their girls work day and night making hundreds, even thousands of dollars, and then handing it all over to their pimps without even getting the slightest share in profits.
Why do the girls do this? Why to pimps do what they do? WHAT exactly are pimps? Well watch "American Pimp" and you'll be educated and entertained like never before on the age-old profession of "pimpin".
This documentary ranks up there with "When They Were Kings!" It's a MUST HAVE for any DVD collection!

Urban auteur filmmakers, the Hughes Brothers (Menace II Society, Dead Presidents) hitthe mean streets with an "incredibly entertaining and charismatic" (Shout) expose on real-life pimps. A "snappy, stylish documentary" (The New York Post) containing "blunt, raw power and stylistic energy" (The Hollywood Reporter), American Pimp is "a primer on pimp craftand culture" (Shout) that takes you into the shadowy world of prostitution, "putting on the screen everything you ever wanted to know about pimps" (Nuart).Cutting straight to the heart of the world's oldest profession, this intimate portrait of infamous "mack-daddies" like Filmore Slim, C-Note, Gorgeous Dre and Rosebudd is eye-opening and shocking. From the dirty streets of New York, L.A. and San Francisco to the "Player's Ball" in Milwaukee, you'll walk the boulevard ofbroken dreams and hear every heart-wrenching story and hilarious anecdote. It's an exclusive ride you've never experiencedand won't soon forget.
