It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: Season 3 Review

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: Season 3

I would fall into the group of folks who began watching "Sunny" with the inception of the Dumpster Baby episode and, in turn, quickly got himself caught up with the first two seasons on DVD. Aside from the heaps of praise that "Sunny" has gotten since it first appeared, it's inclusion on the FX Network made it especially intriguing as (in my opinion) they house the best original television on basic cable today.
While the first 2 seasons are picture perfect in their own right, Season 3 delivers the funniest moments to date of this already amazing show. Anyone who is a fan already knows which moments these are (ie; Day Man). My personal favorite is the season finale, specifically the Mac vs. Dennis dance off, which is quite possibly the funniest moment in TV history.
Season 3 also includes the gang trying out for the Eagles, the death in Dennis and Dee's immediate family, battling a local Korean restaurant, Mac joining the mafia and a few drop-ins from the McPoyle family. What makes these scenarios so unique is that they are relatively serious at a glance but are filtered through some of most ridiculous and hilarious circumstances that even the largest hot button issue becomes comedy gold, leaving no one and nothing spared.
With one week until Season 4 begins anew, the public at large has the opportunity to get all caught up or give themselves a refresher of hilarity. I'll be enjoying multiple viewings.

I am a huge fan of Always Sunny and would definitely reckomend(Charlie spelling) this DVD. Yes, it is expensive. I was lucky enough to get it discounted with Seasons 1-4 on the deal of the day(Thanks Amazon!) so it didn't really effect me. The added violence and cursing definitely made me wish every episode could have it! They use the cursing efficiently and always to great effect. If you like Always Sunny you can't really go wrong with this DVD. I was excited to see Mack and Charlie paired together again(Lately the dynamic has been Frank/Charlie and Mack/Dennis) for some great, hilarious moments. Loved it and think you will love it too!

I came to this show late in life, I didnt start watching until season 3. I had to buy seasons 1 and 2 to catch up, and I have been stuck ever since. I have vowed, if I ever won millions in the lottery, to donate 1 million dollars so that this show could keep on going. Mac and Charlie, Dennis and Dee and Danny DeVito as Frank are five of the biggest NUTS in Philadelphia. With thier get rich quick schemes ranging from becoming a surrogate mother for a well-to-do couple to writing a movie in competition with M.Night Shyamalan they get into mess after mess. The issues in this show are jaw dropping hilarous. Charlie thinking he is an attorney, Dennis thinking he is God's gift to women, while maintaining a quasi-homosexual relationship with Mac, Frank pulling a gun at every corner and Dee just being Dee, Sunny is a show that just makes life worth living.

The series follows the exploits of “the gang,” a group of self-centered friends who run Paddy’s Pub, a relatively unsuccessful Irish bar in South Philadelphia.

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia: Season 6 (2010) Review

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia: Season 6 (2010)
Average Reviews:

I love Always Sunny, but even as a big fan I'm surprised to see any good reviews for this season. While I can appreciate wanting to defend your favorite show based on its history, Season 6 obviously failed to deliver.
The writing felt so off, and there was none of the usual rhythm or natural comedic flow to their banter. They were missing the spark that makes them hilarious, so instead they just felt disconnected. Some of the punchlines nearly merited a "ba-dum-ch" after the anti-climactic delivery. Almost every episode felt painfully forced, as if they were really digging for material. And they must have been, since in Episode 9 "Dee Reynolds: Shaping America's Youth" aka "The Lethal Weapon Episode," Frank's uncomfortable and disgusting sex scene was so blatantly ripped off from the movie 'MacGruber' it was embarrassing. And it just seemed like, "Well if we can't make you laugh, then we'll try to shock you!" It was truly a sad and pathetically desperate attempt for a laugh. There were very few funny moments (countable on one hand), but as a whole to the season or even each episode it was like spitting in the ocean. Really made no difference and was dreadfully disappointing.
This is a hilarious show that my boyfriend and I both love to watch. Hopefully this was just a rough adjustment or transitional period (with the baby and all), and they get it together for next season.

Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia: Season 4 Review

Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia: Season 4
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
"Its Always Sunny" is without a doubt the funniest show on TV, although I would not recommend it for the easily offended. The writing, the directing, and above all, the acting (of both the main and support cast) is as close to perfection as anything I have seen in a comedy.
Every season they manage to somehow top themselves in hilarity and absurdity, and now that they have developed a good fan base FX must have upped their budget for this season so their wacky antics are even more over the top than previously (for example, there are at least 2 car explosions in season 4, possibly more). On top of their flashier action (well, destruction) sequences the characters have really developed their niches and honed their comedy to razor-thin perfection.
One thing I love about this show is its total lack of conventional sitcom story telling. The main characters not only avoid any and all attempts at morality and "positive" growth, their selfish depravity even morphs the upstanding people around them into degenerates as well. I think it does a good job of pointing out how so many people can be massive hypocrites in today's politically correct society; for example, "the gang" is hyper-sensitive to any comments they feel might be "racist" and yet all of them are overtly "racist" in their own right; a more extreme example can be seen in one character whom is against abortion and "gays" for what he claims to be religious reasons and yet he has sex out of wedlock with a rather hung transsexual.
I can watch these episodes for free online but I still will be stepping over my own children to buy this DVD as soon as it comes out. It truly is something you can never grow tired of watching over and over again, and everyone I have exposed to "Its Always Sunny" has become an instant fan much as I did when my father first introduced it to me.

Step up to the bar at Paddy's Pub and brace yourself for a shot of outrageously raunchy fun! Paddy's may be the worst bar in Philadelphia, but the gang there sure knows how to party. Whether it's Dee and Charlie's flirtation with cannibalism, Frank's glory-hole fixation, or Mac's raucous reenactment of Dennis's over-the-top sexual memoirs, nothing is sacred for these dysfunctional misfits as they hilariously destroy all possible boundaries of good taste. Pour yourself a stiff one and come join the gang at Paddy's, where happy hour is more than just a time of day—it's a way of life!

Solitary Man (2010) Review

Solitary Man (2010)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The film follows Michael Douglas as he comes to grips, or doesn't, with his age and the fact that his personal life as passed him by. The movie begins with Douglas receiving the news that he needs some test performed on his heart because his doctor has some concerns. Time then flashes forward six years, where Douglas is now divorced with a daughter in her early 30s (played expertly by Jenna Fischer), a grandson who is five, and a girlfriend (Mary Louise Parker) who he is using for her father's power. Hints are dropped that Douglas was involved in some sort of scam that caused him to lose his extremely profitable business and threw him into a scandal that destroyed his reputation. The rising action begins when Douglas must escort his girlfriend's daughter to his alma mater for the weekend. While in Boston, Douglas makes a terrible decision that threatens to unravel whatever life he has left.
Though this film received little attention, I thought that it was absolutely excellent and worth an Oscar nomination (being that they're handing them out willy nilly now). Susan Saradon plays Douglas' ex and does so expertly with just the perfect amount of anger, pity, and old love. Douglas plays the philandering 60+ year old who still thinks he's 20 perfectly. The end of the movie leaves people guessing, but can also be used as a conversation starter and had me thinking about the film long after I left the theater.

Ben (Michael Douglas) once ruled a car-dealership empire vast enough to fuel a glossy Manhattan lifestyle and endow a library at an East Coast university. But by the time he arrives at the college with his girlfriend’s daughter, Allyson (Imogen Poots), who is a prospective student, his world has collapsed around his ears. A business scandal has cost him his income and his marriage to Nancy (Susan Sarandon). His ever-present lust for every passing attractive woman threatens to take what little Ben has left. Even his new relationship with Jordan (Mary-Louise Parker) oscillates with tension. When Ben takes Allyson to tour the school, his motives are more than mixed.

Mars Attacks (1996) Review

Mars Attacks (1996)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Hollywood has made movies from books, TV shows, even other movies. However, "Mars Attacks" may be the first time a movie was made from a trading card.
Back in the late 1960s, Topps Cards created a line of Mars Attacks trading cards. However, these cards were pulled off the shelves after only a few months because the aliens depicted on them were considered to be too gruesome. My, how times have changed.
Director Tim Burton has taken those old trading cards and recreated them into this Sci-Fi B-movie throwback. In the process, he has created a movie that is pure, guiltless fun.
"Mars Attacks" also benefits from an all-star cast, including Jack Nicholson (in a dual-role), Michael J. Fox, Sarah Jessica Parker, Pierce Brosnan, Martin Short, Danny Devito, Glenn Close, Natalie Portman, Tom Jones, Annette Bening, Lukas Haas, Jim Brown, and many others. The fact that you get to watch the aliens disentegrate (and otherwise kill) many of these stars only adds to the fun. Unfortunately, Tom Jones wasn't one of those unlucky stars. Maybe someday a sequel will be made that will rectify that. :)
Oh yeah........ did I happen to mention that Congress gets vaporized? This proves that the Martians aren't all bad!
The DVD comes with many extras, including quite a few production notes that helps you to understand how the movie came to be. This is one movie that you will want to see over and over again (especially anytime that Congress is getting on your nerves).

When In Rome (2010) Review

When In Rome (2010)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love the people who trash romantic comedies that deliver exactly what you expect a romantic comedy to deliver. "When in Rome" is nothing more and nothing less than a cookie cutter chick flick about romance, finding love, a happy ending, with some jokes thrown in to make you laugh. I enjoyed the movie and for the fee of renting it on demand, felt it was well worth the 91 minutes of run time, not including previews of course. Please people, who doesn't think that Kristen Bell is cute and even my girlfriend perks up a little when Josh Duhamel comes on screen.
Kristen Bell plays a working woman who finds her job much more rewarding than any relationship she can find. It doesn't mean she isn't sad nothing has worked out with the men in her life. It just means that she can feel rewarded standing on her own two feet. Hello, am I connecting with the female population yet? She is a lead curator at the Guggenheim museum and just when she concedes to living a life of solitaire, her sister decides to get married and things go a little haywire. So off to Rome she flies for a weekend of family hell.
While in the romantic city she picks a few coins out of a fountain and unknowingly captures the hearts of some lucky dudes who had previously dropped them in the mysterious fountain. While the magic is working its way towards insanity she meets Josh Duhamel who happens to actually like her. The two of them make a great pair. As corny as the scene is with breaking the vase and short circuiting the electricity, it actually made me laugh. Without giving too much away, the commercials do that all too well already, I will say that several scenes had me laughing pretty loud at times. It really was a funny movie, even if it was a little trite and predictable.
In my book Dax Shepard was absolutely hilarious with his washboard stomach. He spent most of the movie with his shirt off as he looked at himself almost as much as he sat admiring Kristen Bell. How this guy is not cast in more movies is beyond me, but we can continue to enjoy his work next season in Parenthood.
Anyway, I enjoyed the movie. If you go in expecting a nice romantic comedy with several funny scenes you will leave happy. It isn't anything ground breaking and there is no thought involved. It is simply 91 minutes of mindless entertainment where everything works out in the end. What more can you ask from a movie of this nature. In my book it delivered, so have a few laughs and move on to the next one. Hollywood has been making these since the moving picture was invented, and it will continue as long as people buy the tickets to see them. I for one think it was adequately worth the price.

An ambitious young New Yorker (Kristen Bell), disillusioned with romance, takes a whirlwind trip to Rome where she defiantly plucks magic coins from a fountain of love, inexplicably igniting the passion of those who threw them in: a sausage magnate (Danny DeVito), a street magician (John Heder), an adoring painter (Will Arnet) and a self-admiring model (Dax Shepard). But when a charming reporter (Josh Duhamel) pursues her with equal zest, how will she know if his love is the real thing?

Living Out Loud (1998) Review

Living Out Loud (1998)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Spectacular. Yes, a superb masterpiece that was completely snubbed at the Oscars. Living Out Loud rose above and beyond all other movies. Richard LaGravenese, screenwriter for Bridges of Madison County and The Fisher King gives a fine directing debut about a lonely upper east side woman who searches for a new life after the man she believed she loved for 20 years leaves, for a younger woman.
A unique tale of two stories intertwining from sudden devastating and life altering moments, starring the sensational Holly Hunter as Judith, and Danny Devito, as her building's elevator man, Pat.
The movie is a classic. Holly Hunter always surprises the audience with notably fine characters. She brings Judith to life as a woman searching for the reality that lies within herself. Danny Devito is wonderful as the man who brings substance to the screen. He plays a subtle man, only wanting the best out of life. Though misfortunes and tragedy always seem to strike at the most inconvenient of times. The two come together, shining the screen with passion amongst friends, who are geared toward two different entities in life.
Queen Latifah is simply dazzling and vibrantly amazing with her jazz vocals. The opening sequence with Lush Life scored and set the pace for what would lie ahead in the movie. Becoming friends with Judith, help both of them realize the love of their lives is not just within the souls of another man; the truest meaning is within their own self.
The movie flowed so elegantly, it certainly is more than your usual chick flick. I, being a 28 year old male, and a die hard movie fan, was thrown for a loop once I saw this movie a while back. I felt something deep, a hidden meaning that we all should look into. The movie was so real, unlike a lot of the movies out there that we chase for in a fantasy. I could go on and on about this movie, but I don't want to spoil any bit of it. All I have to say is from the start - with Queen Latifah rendition of Lush Life and all other poignant songs see jazzes herself into; the inner self of Hunter and her fantasy scenes, especially the crack baby thought; to the meeting and friendly journey of Devito and Hunter; the huge club scene, where Hunter lives out another one of her fantasy's; and then the end, the reality of life and the experiences and chances we take doing what we want out of life.
In the end, you hope that Holly Hunter does Live Out Loud, Danny Devito find his passage in life and that Queen Latifah moves from rap to jazz, cause she is just fantastic. I would have thrown Oscars to Hunter for best actress; Devito, best actor and; best supporting actress, Queen Latifah.
Again, this movie is a classic. It should be re-released. Movie-goers never had the chance to experience this movie the way it should be, due to the huge success, and my judgment of a good but not excellent film, As Good As It Gets.
Believe me when I say that you should watch this movie over and over and over again.
