Gotta Catch Santa Claus is about a boy name Trevor and his best friend Veronica. During a Chess competition Trevor and Veronica got into a discussion as to whether or not Santa Claus was real. Trevor truly believed in Santa where as Veronica felt that it was impossible for Santa to exist. Veronica went so far as to scientifically disprove that Santa could exist.
To prove Veronica wrong Trevor and his nerdy friends (I don't remember their names, I just know them as "X" and "Y" who are twins) set out of devise a plan to capture Santa. Even though she was skeptical Veronica hung around the boys to see if they could pull it off.
Much to their surprise the kids were able to bring down Santa and capture him. This also made it easier for an evil ice monster from outer space name LeFreeze to find Santa. LeFreeze has been trying to capture Santa to take care of a 100 year old grudge he has against him. With the help of his evil snowman minions LeFreeze comes to town to capture Santa for himself.
I'm not going to tell you how the story pans out. You'll just have to purchase the DVD.
My whole family had the opportunity to view the movie. My husband liked it but said it was not as endearing as the true holiday classics like Rudolph and Frosty. My 12 year old daughter said it was cool and thought it was funny when Santa was hip hop dancing.
I think the one person in my family who was most taken with the movie was my 10 year old son. He loved it! I can see it's appeal with boys and 'tween boys. The main character is a young boy and there are a lot of gadgets and they would find the robotic alien LeFreeze entertaining too.
I thought it was a fun movie. There are several songs in the movie including the very catchy title song "Gotta Catch Santa Claus". The songs in the movie are very much geared towards the 'tween and younger crowd but I found them to be cute and catchy.
I liked the 3-D animals and the likable characters. I thought Mrs. Claus was amusing because she is portrayed as someone very thing and sexy (Mrs. Claus should not be sexy - LOL!).
We've added Gotta Catch Santa Claus to our holiday DVD collection. I can see us watching it again on Wednesday as well as every year when we bring out the holiday DVDs.
Gotta Catch Santa Claus also comes with some bonus features including fun sing-along songs (including Gotta Catch Santa Claus) as well as deleted scenes. I found the deleted scenes most especially interesting because the original story line is nothing like the final movie. The entire movie was originally very different. It's interesting how they changed their minds and made the movie go in a different direction.
I should add that William Shatner is the voice of Santa.

(More customer reviews)"Classic Christmas Cartoons" is an almost-duplicate of the now out-of-print "A Cute Cavalcade of Classic Christmas Cartoons." The only real difference is that this DVD has 7 cartoons, rather than "A Cute Cavalcade...'s" 12 cartoons.
Each of these cartoons are good fun, and true "classics." The real standouts of the collection are the Fleischer Bros. cartoons, and Ub Iwerk's spooky "Jack Frost." Being from the 30's and 40's, several of them are depression-influenced, showing sad-eyed orphans and poor kids lusting for Christmas treats, and may contain a few stereotypes of an unpleasant nature, but nothing terribly shocking.
Definitely for lovers of old cartoons only, or very young children who don't mind the different styles and slightly odd characters.
The DVD is of poor quality, which is expected for such ancient cartoons. Restoration takes money, and this collection of public domain prints is just to get them out there. Nothing fancy, but nice to have in any format.

Alvin and the Chipmunks - A Chipmunk Christmas (25th Anniversary Special Collector's Edition) (1983) Review

(More customer reviews)This one has 3 episodes, with the first being the classic early 80's Xmas Special, A Chipmunk Christmas. This is the one where Alvin gives up his prize harmonica to a sick boy for Christmas, then is in a bind because Dave booked them at Carnegie Hall and now he doesn't have it to play.
The other 2 episodes are from the late 80's TV show, The Chipmunks. The first is named Merry Christmas Mr. Carroll, and I believe it is one in the same as the VHS release a while back called Alvin's Christmas Carol. It is excatly that, Alvin is being stingy and makes up a huge Christmas list, and then is taught the meaning of Christmas by 3 ghosts.
The last episode, Dave's Wonderful Life, is in the spirit of Christmas and the story of It's A Wonderful Life, however there isn't really anthing festive or Christmasy depicted.
A must have for the 2 Xmas episodes, escpecially the first one, where we get the classic holiday tune, The Chipmunk Song!

My Little Pony - A Very Minty Christmas (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)My daughter is a big fan of Dora The Explorer & Sesame Street. Occasionally I can get her interested in something else. I've had some luck with the Richard Scarry videos, Winnie The Pooh, Strawberry Shortcake, and the Backyardigans so far. Suprisingly, she actually likes to watch the previews on all these videos. And I noticed she got very excited during the preview to A Very Minty Christmas that was on the Backyardigans DVD. She started saying "Pony!" everytime it would come on, so I decided to get this DVD for her. SHE LOVES IT! Just after the first viewing, she was ready to watch it again. The ponies and Ponyville are all so pretty and girly, which is probably why she likes it. Or it could be because they remind her of her grandma's Carousel collection, which she has also taken a liking to.
I'm actually excited that my daughter has shown interest in My Little Pony since I loved them when I was a kid in the 80s. And also that means I can be on the lookout for more DVDs and toys. I already got her the Minty pony for Christmas :).

(More customer reviews)Alright, so I got this collection in the mail today and popped all 3 movies in to see how the transfers look.
Overall, I'm fairly disappointed. I think Rudolph looks the least remastered. It might just be because the setting is so white but there's very little detail and often the lighting was inconsistant (though that's probably stuck in the original film). Santa Claus is Comin' to Town looks the best. There's lots of nice, vibrant colors in it. Frosty is somewhere in the middle. The audio is incredibly soft on all 3 and not really worth noting. I'd be very interested in a more professional review from someone who knows more about the original negatives and whatnot, but as for my eye-based review I'd give it an overall C-grade.
There are, of course, some improvements. I've yet to see a 1080p transfer that doesn't do any good, but, to be honest, I wish I had been able to resist and saved $30. At $15 I'd be satisfied, but not $30.
As for bonus features there aren't any except the not-so-classic "Frosty Returns" and a CD featuring a collection of favorite Christmas songs.

(More customer reviews)I just wanted to say that I have never experienced any problems with our DVD taking too long to load. It is just like any other DVD, when you put it in you wait for the restriction info, hit menu, hit menu again to skip the bit that explains how to use the DVD and hit play. It starts just like all the rest. I think it is great that they are slowly getting these switched to DVD. I love Rolie Polie Olie and my son loves it too. It's defintely worth the $$$ or whatever it is.

Peanuts: I Want a Dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown (Deluxe Edition) Review

(More customer reviews)After reading some of the negative reviews posted here on Amazon, I decided to first watch this DVD myself before allowing my kids to see it. I found it to be delightful, even as I watched it a second time with my kids. The documentary on the making of A Charlie Brown Christmas is a nice extra, and I especially enjoyed the animated short "Christmas Tales".
I feel the need to address some of the other reviews. Yes, Rerun gets suspended for "harassment", but the word "sexual" is not used, for starters. I was worried I would have to explain that word to my kids. Wasn't an issue. The "harassment" consisted of Rerun suggesting, innocently and jokingly, to a disillusioned girl in his kindergarten class, that they run off to Paris. That's it. Not only does Rerun not know where Paris is, he doesn't have the first clue what it would mean to "run off" there. For her part, the girl thinks it's funny, so she tells her mom about it. Presumably her mother was the one who took issue with it and reported it to the school, who then took action (though it's possible that the mother thought it was funny and the school just over-reacted, who knows).
As for the comments regarding the "PC agenda", obviously those viewers either are new to Peanuts or they never understood what Peanuts was all about in the first place. It is exactly the OPPOSITE. Peanuts has always managed to weave social commentary into the fabric of what, on the surface, were always simple, charming tales of the everyday lives of a group of children. It was obvious to me that Rerun's being suspended was a swipe at today's sometimes ridiculous political correctness. And it was a subtle reminder that kids are often the "mature" ones in this world, and it's the adults that mess everything up. Indeed, when Rerun tells big sister Lucy that he got "fired" from school for making the suggestion to the little girl, Lucy says "Let me guess: harassment?" with a tone of cynicism that indicates that she understands fully the occasional stupidity of political correctness. Again, it was exactly the opposite of "pushing a PC agenda"; it was ridiculing political correctness. Was it a little less subtle than usual? Yes. If I were advising the makers of the program, would I have told them to leave that part out? Probably. But did it upset me? Not at all.
One last thing. Smart people know better than to attempt to compare this to "A Charlie Brown Christmas". It's completely different, and it wisely doesn't attempt to recapture the magic of that classic special. Watch this video and judge it solely on its own merits. You may love it, you may hate it, but give it a chance.
