This is a great series and the Season DVD's are very worth it. To some people the show may seem a little bit unbelieveable. Examples(Mother becomes addicted to drugs and some of the crazy things that the kids get into.) I won't go into further detail, so that I won't spoil things too bad. It is a TV show though! So some of the things are going to be un-real, but it really is a great show. Great for anyone to watch and especially for families. I would recommend this show to anyone!

I'll admit that I'm a Johnny-come-lately to the "Madea" series, finally seeing this compilation at the insistence of my teenaged niece. Creator Tyler Perry and his alter-ego, the opinionated, pistol-packing, chain-smoking (never lit, by the way) "Madea," have starred in several successful stage plays and subsequent theatrical film versions to the delight of fans, mostly African-American, nationwide.
Though the stories feature the tried-and-true clichéd characters (the belligerent teenager, the devoted wife, the straying husband, the vixens, the lotharios, etc.) and situations (infidelity, promiscuity, straying from the church, comedic funerals, obnoxious and overbearing family members), Perry's productions also introduce a bit of spirituality with each story's ending dependent upon DIVINE INTERVENTION making things right. Some of the acting performances are a little over the top, and the musical selections, though sung with gusto and relish by the gifted vocalists, are weak in the lyrics department; however, as a whole, the respective productions are entertaining and inspirational.
Perry has tapped into a market that is unconsciously ignored by Hollywood, and is having great success on both the stage and screen.
This compilation lets the viewer experience and/or revisit those money-making stage shows.

Tyler Perry: Meet the Browns Review

Tyler Perry: Meet the Browns
Average Reviews:

This play, to be completely honest, was one of the funniest that I have ever seen in my life. I just can't stop watching it. It is a hoot! Not only is it funny, but it ends with a very positive message, just as all of Tyler Perry's plays do. It is amazing when you can mix comedy with Christian themality in order to portray a positive message here.
Essentially, after "Pop Brown" dies, the dysfunctional Brown family comes together to plan his funeral. Through planning his funeral, many different problems and issues arise within the family including a lonely woman who ends up finding love, a woman torn up inside because of her murdered child along with a husband whom she has tensions with, a husband who has cheated on his wife, and three sibilings as well as the whole of the Brown family who in the end discover the importance of family. I won't reveal anymore about the play because I want you to discover it and discover the wonderfulness of it for yourself. Believe me, this play is a keeper as well as the other ones in the Tyler Perry Collection.
My only thing against MEET THE BROWNS (which is my favorite of Perry's collection) is that Madea isn't in it. However, you'll discover "Brown" as he is called steals the show! 5 stars easily.

Tyler Perry's Madea's Class Reunion (2003) Review

Tyler Perry's Madea's Class Reunion (2003)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After watching the movie by Tyler Perry, THE DIARY OF A MAD BLACK WOMAN, I wanted to watch all of the plays that Tyler Perry had written and acted in as well. MADEA'S CLASS REUNION was the very first play that I watched of the collection. Boy was it a good introduction to a wonderful collection of plays.
When I watched this play, I wasn't expecting it to be so good. Not only was there a lot of laughs but there was great gospel singing, acting, and a Christian "tonality" to the play. While the movie THE DIARY OF A MAD BLACK WOMAN somewhat exploited this Christian tone, it didn't do it to the degree that any of Perry's stage plays did. Here a prostitute fights for her life with a husband who abuses her (and is a pimp), at a hotel, an elderly lady who cleans the rooms is fired by a manager who isn't Christian but ends up becoming the manager of the hotel. I would tell you more, but you must experience this master work for yourself. I will tell you that Madea is "funny as h***, I ain't lying" (one of her famous lines throughout the Tyler Perry series). 5 stars.

I went to see this play in Portland, Oregon. It was totally outstanding. For the person that said he takes us back in years, sometimes you have to go back down memory lane to remember where you came from so some the things you encountered you know not to encounter them again. Tyler Perry is a vessel used by God, the messages in his plays have changed and inspired many lives. Keep doing what you do, their are always going to be critics but it is more critical that you continue to let God use you. This is one of the best plays he's done.

Some coworkers and I went to see this in Dallas. Sadly, one of our own left us to be in it. :) I am a big fan of the Tyler Perry plays and this is definitely one of the best. It will definitely make you laugh and will probably make you cry. The singing is incredible! By the end, the entire audience was on their feet. You will not regret this purchase!
note: I definitely have to agree with the review left by Felicia Flagler. I have no idea who the actors/actresses are who Amazon listed and think it is definitely a big slap in the face to the real people who put on such an amazing performance!

Tyler Perry's I Can Do Bad All By Myself Review

Tyler Perry's I Can Do Bad All By Myself
Average Reviews:

This is really an excellent play. Madea's granddaughter is living with her following her divorce. She is shocked when she learns her sister Maylee is engaged to her recent ex-husband Anthony. Maylee is a hootchie more interested in men that her own 14 year old daughter who is living with Madea. This is such a hilarious--yet serious play. I don't want to be a spoiler but the twists and turns of the storyline will keep you on your feet. The neighbor Mr. Brown provides comic relief. It's a great play and it although it's a comedy it addresses serious issues. YOu must check out the extras. The play includes a wonderful featurette with Tyler Perry providing some behind the scene details of this particular play. It seems the theater flooded prior to the performance and a Friday show had to be canceled. Tyler went out to speak to the crowd and signed autographs. He really felt bad about canceling the show due to the power being out because most of the fans didn't want a refund they wanted to see the show. "I Can Do Bad By Myself," also addresses some of the themes featured in the film "Diary of a Mad Black Woman," most noticibly a woman who has escaped a verbally abusive man who is hesitant to embrace real love. Another thing I enjoyed about this play is that the women look like real black women you might see anywhere and not just supermodels. They have average wigs and weave and are regular clothes. Great play and of course Madea is hilarious.

Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Too? (Widescreen Edition) (2010) Review

Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Too (Widescreen Edition) (2010)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Gathered together in the Bahamas for their annual one-week reunion, four close couples eagerly reconnect, sharing news about their lives and relationships. But their intimate week in paradise is disrupted by the unexpected arrival of Sheila's ex-husband, Mike, who hopes to break up her new marriage with Troy and win her back. The others soon realize they too are not immune to the challenges of commitment and fidelity. Angela doesn't believe her husband, Marcus, can be faithful now that he's a celebrity television newscaster. Dianne and Terry's relationship is feeling the strain of raising children. And Patricia, a successful self-help psychologist, must finally reveal the deep flaws in her seemingly perfect marriage to Gavin. With their relationships hanging in the balance when they return home, each couple must choose between blame and forgiveness, doubt and faith, with life-altering consequences.
The truth of the matter is that I have mixed feelings about this movie. Am I glad I saw it? Yes! This is one movie I wouldn't mind seeing again (if only to watch Shelia). Did I expect something different? Yes and no. Did I enjoy the movie? Yes, I'd have to say that I did. The truth is that it is just a different type of movie. The first movie examined how individuals dealt with the problems in their marriages; the good, the bad and the ugly. And in the first movie, they all had better relationships and a greater understanding of each other as people. Now, the second movie addresses what happens when a relationship breaks down (literally) and how we as human beings learn to cope with the change, hardships and difficulties. See, not bad, but different.
I feel the mark of a good movie is when you forget you are watching it, and you get drawn into the story. And let me assure you that this will happen. I will admit that this movie had a lot packed into it, but it gives you a fresh look on how these characters have changed, or not changed, over the three years since the first movie. It is a very emotional ride at times, but it all pays off when Shelia embarrasses Marcus, or when Troy stands up for his wife, and Janet's character really shows her other side.
The location for the reunion was absolutely beautiful, and get to see the conversations between the men and the women (in individual groups) and then see how the stories match up as the movie continues beyond the weekend get-a-way. There really is no need to describe the story any further because each person will experience it differently. Personally, I thought the movie began a bit slowly, however when it got to the end, I was happy for the slow parts it gave me time to catch up. Overall: if you like Tyler Perry movies, you should see this movie. It is worth the ride, very enjoyable.

For Colored Girls (2011) Review

For Colored Girls (2011)
Average Reviews:

I absolutely loved this movie. I titled my review "Multifaceted" because Black women are multifaceted like diamonds. They are beautiful and come in all colors, are strong and endure. Some may be a little rough around the edges at first but if or when that precious gem finally shines through they are awesome.
I also loved this movie because it didn't focus on one part of the Black female culture. It showed Black women who are successful, talented, trusting, naive, hopeful, bitter, religious, fanatic, loving, intelligent, insightful, wise, troubled and above all strong.
I truly hope that critics don't take the title literally and label it as just a movie about Black women. The issues that the characters faced concerned all women. Any woman, Black, White, Hispanic, etc. can see a little bit of themselves in at least one of the characters. I saw a little of myself in at least three.
Thank you Tyler Perry for bringing this wonderful story to the big screen.
