Kyle XY: The Complete Second Season Review

Kyle XY: The Complete Second Season
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For those who so thoroughly enjoyed Season 1 of Kyle XY, Season 2 continues the story with some new twists and new characters, while wrapping up loose threads from Season 1. After the death of his mentor, Adam Baylin, Kyle returns to the Trager family, who keenly felt his absence.
Kyle continues to work on developing his abilities under the tutelage of Tom Foss (Nicholas Lea, Alex Krycek on "The X-Files"), while keeping his activities secret, which strains his relationship with his newly adopted family. He also pursues a relationship with Amanda, the neighbor girl he doted on in Season 1.
However, in Season 2, Kyle is no longer the only one of his kind. Shortly before a bomb takes out the laboratory where Kyle was created, a female like him emerges from her pod and runs wild in Seattle, until the company that created her reprograms her into Jessi, Kyle's friend/enemy. She is almost his complete opposite, unafraid to even kill.
The Trager family's lives remain interesting as well, as Steven is hired by the very company controlling Jessi, Lori and Declan's relationship is strained by Declan's keeping Kyle's secrets, Nicole provides therapy to Jessi, and Josh reaches the age of 16, and gets a girlfriend named Andy (yes, she's a girl!) who is suffering from a serious illness, which inspires Josh to do a lot of growing up in this season, while still maintaining his singular wit.
The longer season allows for more dramatic storytelling, leading up to a startling cliffhanger, which begins on TV in January. Interesting timing for the release, eh?
But for all that Kyle learns in this season, it seems clear that he has barely begun to scratch the surface, and may always be attempting to answer the tagline question: Who is Kyle XY?

Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple - Season Two, Part One (2010) Review

Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple - Season Two, Part One (2010)
Average Reviews:

After buying the first season box set I instantly became a fan of the series and knew I had to see the series through to the end and bought these last two box sets to do it. Like one reviewer said with the previous season one box set I could have waited until Funimation released the second season in one box set but I had the money and just felt I had to get it now. The stories main character Kenichi Shirahama who after being bullied at school for sometime even from some of the students of the martial arts club he tried joining to defend himself finds a young well endowed female transfer student by the name of Miu Furinji being set upon by some of the bullies fears for her safety but feels he can't do anything about it, but as he finds out she herself is quite a skilled martial arts fighter after seeing her defeat the pack of bullies easily, after trailing her unknowingly to her dojo home he sees the martial arts masters she lives with and after a somewhat forced pushing from one of the masters becomes their student. But after a few fight wins he now finds himself being faced with new opponents who are looking to reach the top by knocking off the stronger fighters that Kenichi has unknowingly placed himself in. The series is pretty funny with some drama of course in the series as well but luckily they don't saturate the series with it so it doesn't become to dramatic because of it. The series animation and soundtrack fit perfectly together both done pretty well and the voice cast for the Japanese and English cast fit their characters pretty well too. So if you like fighting animes or comedy animes here's a good combination of both...

When we last saw Kenichi, he was making the transition from wimp to warrior – okay, maybe no warrior, but he was definitely taking steps to man up.
Well, the world is starting to notice, which is good and bad. On the plus side, he’s making friends and getting more respect. In the minus column, his rep is growing faster than his skills, which is tricky now that every thug in town wants to test his new techniques. That means between street brawls and trying to score with Miu, Kenichi still has to hang tough with the six Martial Arts masters. Lucky for him, the training is getting more intense – because before Kenichi can finally stand tall, he’ll have to beat his fiercest opponent yet!

Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple - Season Two, Part One contains episodes 27-38.

Make It or Break It: Volume One - Extended Edition (2009) Review

Make It or Break It: Volume One - Extended Edition (2009)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
One of the most impressive drama series I have seen on abc Family with a solid script, really good editing and also solid performances by the show's talent, "Make It or Break It" has become one of my favorite drama series to catch on television.
"Make it or Break It" is a new abc family drama series which began in June 2009, and with its debut and run "Make It or Break It" proved to be successful as it received the second best series ratings for the network. The first season consists of a total of 20 episodes, and the first ten episodes are featured in "Make It or Break It: Extended Edition" on DVD.
Created and written by Holly Sorensen, "Make It or Break It" is a captivating drama series that revolves around a female gymnastics team and a girl named Emily Kmetko (played by Chelsea Hobbs, "Beach Girls", "Pasadena", "Lords of Dogtown") from Fresno who practiced gymnastics at a public gym at the YWCA and showed impressive talent.
Because of her talent, she receives the opportunity to attend one of the top gymnastic schools in the country known as "The Rock" (Rocky Mountain Gymnastics Training Center). But life for Emily is difficult as her mother is a single, unemployed mother trying to take care of Emily and her disabled brother. So, Emily tries to balance her life working at a pizza restaurant (secretly), while preparing to make the gymnastics competition with her goals to make it to nationals and become part of the US Olympic Team.
But life is not easy for Emily, the girls of "The Rock" are not exactly welcoming to her especially Lauren Tanner (played by Cassie Scerbo, "Dance Revolution", "Soccer Mom"), who despises her. Especially since Emily is a threat to the top three who want to make it to the Regionals. As the storyline focuses on Emily, as the underdog who tries to prove to her fellow gymnasts that she belongs there and deserves to compete, her other fellow gymnastic friends at "The Rock" have their share of problems.
"Make It or Break It: Extended Edition - Volume One" comes with a total of 10 episodes on two DVD's. Here is a spoiler-less summary of each episode:
DISC 1:
* EPISODE 1 - Pilot - The Kmetko's move to Boulder, Colorado where she joins "The Rock", one of the most prestigious gymnastics school in the country. But as the new gymnast coming into the school, many of the top athletes are not to thrilled about her joining them.
* EPISODE 2 - Where's Marty? - With Steve Tanner blackmailing Marty, the Rock loses their head coach prompting the gymnasts and their parents in confusion and shock since nationals are coming up.
* EPISODE 3 - Blowing Off Steam - With a new coach who is very strict, some of the girls decide to go to a kegger party which leads Carter doing something he will later regret.
* EPISODE 4- Sunday, Bloody Sasha, Sunday - It's Sunday and because the girls have went to a party, Sasha disciplines the top 4 with a full day of intense training, meanwhile Emily is afraid she will get fired from work.
* EPISODE 5 - Like Mother, Like Daughter, Like Supermodel - With "The Rock" needing funding, the group will have a fashion show which Sasha makes the girls take part of.
DISC 2:
* EPISODE 6 - Between a Rock and a Hard Place - The Rock girls take on the Denver school in a gymnastics competition at the Invitational but what happens to Emily when she doesn't listen to her coach?
* EPISODE 7- Run, Emily, Run - Emily faces the repercussions of not listening to her coach. Meanwhile, Damon comes up with an idea for Emily to continue her training.
* EPISODE 8 - All's Fair in Love, War and Gymnastics - The Cruz family has a send off party for the gymnasts but secrets are revealed.
* EPISODE 9 - Where's Kaylie? - After Kaylie discovers Carter's secret, she runs off the day before the Nationals. Now Emily, Lauren and Payson need to find her.
* EPISODE 10 - All That Glitters (Extended Version) - It's the day of the National Gymnastics Championship in Boston. Who will emerge victorious and make it for the Nationals team?
VIDEO & AUDIO:
"Make It or Break It: Extended Edition - Volume One" is presented in widescreen (1:78:1) and for the most part, the picture quality is satisfactory for a drama series. Also, it helps that the series features various settings, including multiple outdoor shots which definitely makes the PQ for the DVD much better. You can see slight compression at times on certain scenes but not too distracting.
Audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. The series is front and center channel driven, dialogue is clear and understandable and music comes out quite clear from the front channels. The series is not the type of series that utilizes special effects or the use of the surround channels but if you have a modern home theater receiver and a 5.1 or 7.2 setup, definitely worth selecting audio on all channels on the receiver for a more immersive soundscape.
Subtitles are in English SDH.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
"Make It or Break It: Extended Edition - Volume One" comes with a few special features. Included are:
* Making It - (8:50) Series creator/writer/Executive Producer Holly Sorensen talks about how the series came to be, the training the actresses had to go through to learn gymnastics (or sharing their previous gymnastics experiences) and their stunt doubles and behind-the-scenes footage on the making of the show.
* Deleted Scenes - A total of six deleted scenes: The "M" Word, A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words..., You Go, Girl!, Mrs. Cruz is not your BFF!, Funny Money and What's in the Bag?
JUDGMENT CALL:
My first time watching "Make It or Break It" was through a feature which was included with "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" and I was pretty captivated by the underdog storyline of a girl who came out of nowhere having to prove to others that she has talent while the others at the school tend to not welcome her. Also, the fact that her family are not financially in a well-place. In some way, it has that "Karate Kid" type of storyline that I enjoyed back in the 80's with the exception that no one is getting into fist fights but I could tell this was a show about perseverance, teamwork and possible some major cattiness.
Needless to say, when I started watching the first volume of "Make It or Break It", I watched all of it in one sitting because I found it to be quite engrossing. I have to admit that this is the first abc Family drama series that I really, really enjoyed immensely. For a group of actresses that have not had a long career, each of them did a great job. And it was great to know through the "Making Of", that the actresses had previous gymnastics or dance training but also had to go through weeks of boot camp to learn gymnastics and seeing how the camera shots and editing made this show so believable. I was pretty impressed, the editing of the actresses and their stunt doubles have been quite flawless and it helps that their stunt doubles have a similar height and build.
But I also enjoy the series because as much as its about four young women preparing for Nationals, it's a family series in which parents have a major place in the storyline and some major talent are in this series such as Perry Gilpin of "Frazier" and a grown-up Candace Cameron Bure of "Full House". And also because some parents are in various financial situations, I liked how the show shows the struggles of the families also incorporating how the economy can put a dent into the future of families with children who are athletes. I've known several friends who are in similar positions as the parents shown on this series and the writers did a good job in showing that.
So, I really enjoyed the series a lot. But if there was one little problem was during the finale, why they would introduce storylines that should have interfered with the gymnast's focus on their competition. Gymnasts are very focused athletes. It's a sport where there is a lot of discipline and takes a lot of focus and somehow at times, there are situations that I felt was a bit farfetched but of course, this is a drama series and I can understand why certain things had to happen. Also, for the DVD release, I hope that there will be some kind of audio commentary in the future. It would be fun to have the director or even the four young women share their commentary of an episode or even for the next release, the season finale.
But overall, I have to admit that "Make it or Break It" is a wonderful drama series. Granted, if you have a little or a lot of appreciation for gymnastics, the series although incorporates the sport, it's not to over-dominating as the storyline focuses on the four main athletes of "The Rock" and their family situation.
"Make It or Break It: Extended Edition - Volume One" is a very solid series, definitely recommended!

If you're reading this, it's probably because you already love one of the top sitcoms of the 1970s, The Bob Newhart Show, so I won't wax poetic about the greatness of the program. Instead, I'll let you know that this was the 1973-1974 season, and it consists of the following episodes:
THE LAST TV SHOW Bob's group has a televised session. A classic!
MOTEL A pretty girl is after Bob.
BACKLASH Bob throws his back out just before a planned Mexican vacation.
SOMEBODY DOWN HERE LIKES ME A reverend takes Bob's advice...and it backfires.
EMILY IN FOR CAROL Emily fills in for Carol, and Bob's not happy about it.
HAVE YOU MET MISS DIETZ? Jerry and Howard both date the same woman.
OLD MAN RIVERS Carol dates her much older doctor.
MR. EMILY HARTLEY Bob feels inferior when he finds Emily's IQ is higher than his.
MUTINY ON THE HARTLEY Bob raises his rates, and his patients revolt.
I'M OK, YOU'RE OK, SO WHAT'S WRONG? Emily wants to see a marriage counselor.
FIT, FAT, AND 41 Bob goes on a diet.
BLUES FOR MR. BORDEN Howard is depressed by news of his son's new "uncle."
MY WIFE BELONGS TO DADDY Bob feels he can't measure up to Emily's dad.
T.S. ELLIOTT Mr. (Elliott) Carlin dates Carol.
I'M DREAMING OF A SLIGHT CHRISTMAS It's Christmas Eve, and Bob is trapped in his office when the power goes out.
OH, BROTHER Jerry's brother shows up and takes over Jerry's life.
THE MODERNIZATION OF EMILY Emily feels old and decides to update her image. Yes, this is the classic "T-shirt with iron-on decal of lips and a cigarette" episode; aka: Chicken on a Stick.
THE JOBLESS CORPS Howard becomes Bob's patient after he loses his job.
CLINK SHRINK Bob's new patient is a parolee.
MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS Bob's new business manager has him living on a scanty allowance.
A LOVE STORY Howard falls for Bob's engaged sister.
BY THE WAY...YOU'RE FIRED Jerry decides to fire Carol.
CONFESSIONS OF AN ORTHODONTIST Jerry has a startling confession for Bob.
A MATTER OF PRINCIPAL Emily clashes with the school principal when she refuses to skip a student ahead two grades.
This was a great season for Bob. If you enjoy The Bob Newhart Show, buy this DVD set; you'll be glad you did.

Knight Rider - Season Two (1982) Review

Knight Rider - Season Two (1982)
Average Reviews:

This was the strongest and most ambitious season Of KR. The first episode named "GOLIATH" features Wilton Knight's evil son Garthe and a monstrous 18-Wheeler truck named "Goliath". This season also includes the sequel "Goliath Returns". Many other quality episodes are also included in this set that established KR as one of the best shows of the 1980s. Unfortunately this set, unlike the last, does not have any extras or bonuses. This is too bad because there's alot of behind-the-scenes material regarding the episode "GOLIATH" that I wouldve loved to seen. I am mad about Universal's lack of bonuses on their DVD sets, it seems that bonus material is not a priority. Too bad because I would've paid an extra few dollars to get a bonus disc that had "Goliath" on it. I give this review 5 stars for the episodes only. The DVD set deserves only 4, after all even though we get stiffed by the lack of bonuses the casing is well put together, I only wish the bonuses were included.Even though some of the original music has been deleted/altered it doesnt affect this set too much like it did the second season of Quantum Leap, after all unlike QL the music on KR was generic to begin with. Still Universal's lack of obtaining the rights of some songs is annoying and strips originality away from a classic series. Despite this any KR fan needs to own the most action-packed season of KR.

Supernatural: The Complete Second Season (2005) Review

Supernatural: The Complete Second Season (2005)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In the midst of this television season's coverage of "Lost"'s fall from grace and eventual comeback and the big waves made by "Heroes", not to mention the slew of increasingly brazen reality TV saturating the market this gem of a show got lost in the shuffle. Season one was a solid start for the show, full of monster-and-hottie-of-the-week stories that stood alone while very slowly giving us an inkling of a larger plot at work before ending with a glorious cliffhanger. The music was wonderful, the guest stars brilliant, and the homages to classic and modern horror were thick. If you missed it, now's the time to catch up because season two is a winner in every possible way. The first episode is among the greatest season openers I've ever had the pleasure of viewing and it shakes this show to it's very core and sets the tone for the entire year's events. From there, Sam and Dean set out to get revenge for their deceased family members and save as many people as they can along the way. Second verse, same as the first, right? Well, no, not quite. We still get our monsters-of-the-week and our cute guest stars and our classic rock soundtrack, but the tone of this season is so much darker and the events so traumatic that the stakes just seem to be on a whole other level. Friendships are made and broken, loyalties are tested, long-standing beliefs are challenged, all three Winchesters fight for their very souls, and almost nobody's getting out whole. This season is a tooth-and-nail battle for survival and while it still has a hefty dose of the humor that made the first season so much fun, it's obvious that this show is no longer just playing around at having a larger plot. This is the real deal. Among the baddies met along the way are more vampires (one played by an almost unrecongnizable Amber Benson of "Buffy" fame), a rogue hunter, a living dead girl, a female werewolf (in the most heart-wrenching episode of any show I've seen this season), a deal-making demon for those who remember the legend of Robert Johnson, some of Sam's fellow "gifted" children (we do learn their secret), and a Norse trickster god to name a few. The music, if anything, has gotten better this season and so have the guest stars. My favorite guest performance has got to be the loveable Katherine Isabel from cult-classic werewolf flick "Ginger Snaps" who shows up twice and inspires adoration in every frame she's in. If you missed this show on the CW, shame on you; now buy this set. If you missed the first season buy that set too. This show is so good I'd hate to see it die because nobody bothered to watch it for themselves. These kinds of shows are notoriously short-lived and the television big-wigs have little patience for them so when one of this caliber gets on the air and stays on the air, we need to keep it that way in every way we can. Support horror, sci-fi, and fantasy television now, and we'll be rewarded with more later. I hope.

Twenty-two years ago, Sam (series star JARED PADALECKI) and Dean (series star JENSEN ACKLES) Winchester lost their mother to a mysterious and demonic supernatural force. As a result, their father, John (recurring guest star JEFFREY DEAN MORGAN - "Grey's Anatomy"), raised the brothers to be soldiers. He taught them about the paranormal evil that lives in the dark corners and on the back roads of America...and he taught them how to kill it. Sam, however, wanted nothing to do with this violent and dangerous life, and he left it behind, until the day Dean appeared on his doorstep with troubling news. Their father had gone missing on a "hunting trip." Sam and Dean have spent the last year cruising the highwaysof the United States in their 1967 Chevy Impala, searching for their lost father and encountering creatures that most people believe exist only in folklore, superstition and nightmares. Along the way, they have battled the various supernatural threats--and each other as well, for their sibling rivalries and conflicts were never far from the surface. Finally, they found their father, just as he was closing in on the Demon who claimed their mother.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Season 2 Review

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Season 2
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After the enormous success of the 1st season of Haruhi Suzumiya many including myself couldn't wait for the second season. But unfortunately fans would be waiting for 3 years for the second season. Was it worth the wait? That's up to you to decide.
If you are not familiar with the series or read the novels you must keep in mind that the 2nd season is intertwined with the 1st season. So some of the story lines in the 2nd season will shed light on a few things that happened in the 1st season.
By now many have heard about the infamous Endless Eight arc in the second season but let's put that aside for now. The season starts off with Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody, which is a very important episode and storyline in the Haruhi Saga. It's the first time we get to see Mikuru use her time traveling powers as she and Kyon must travel back in time 3 years. After they accomplish their mission the duo find that they are stranded and must find a way back home, which they do in a very interesting way.
Next is the Endless Eight storyline. Love it or hate it, E8 is a very important arc in the series. The SoS Brigade get stuck in a timeloop during their summer vacation and Kyon must figure out why Haruhi doesn't want their summer vacation to end.
The E8 arc is told in 8 episodes that are essentially the same but slightly different in tone, acting & mood. E8 also sees the growth of two characters, Nagato seems to be developing emotions & Kyon takes a step forward to being an active member of the SoS Brigade instead of a bystander.
The remaining episodes are dedicated to the Sigh arc, which is the making of the movie from the 1st season. You will find out why Nagato tackled Mikuru, why the cat started talking, what's the deal with Mikuru's different colored eyes & ultimately who put it all together!!
It is during these last few episodes that provide the darkest moments in the series to date. Kyon & Haruhi have a epic confrontation over, "creative differences" that threatens the world. Of course it is up to Kyon once again to find a way to tame Haruhi and put things back in order.
The animation is top notch once again, especially during the darker moments of the series. There is great dramatic lighting during the Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody, the night scenes of E8 and during the confrontation in Sigh.
The music is not as memorable as 1st season but Superdriver (the opening song) and Tomare (the ending song which means Stop) are energetic & catchy enough to be heard & watched over and over. I found the best score part to be at the resolution of the E8 arc.
I look forward to the English dub of the 2nd season. I am very curious as to how Wendee Lee, Crispin Freeman & Michelle Ruff will handle the E8 arc and the confrontation. Of course the Japanese va's are excellent as well.
In the end I wanted to really love the 2nd season of Haruhi, but I was found wanting a better effort from the stories. Personally, I felt the E8 arc should've been two episodes. I would've like to have seen a more fleshed out Sigh arc because it felt rushed. Then I really would've liked to have seen a set up of the Disappearance storyline.

Haruhi continues her search for exciting ways to keep her world from being boring. Unfortunately, for Kyon and the rest of the SOS Brigade, they are forced to go along for the ride. On the night of the Tanabata Star Festival, Kyon is transported back in time by Mikuru Asahina to what may be the source of what led Haruhi to search for aliens, time travelers and espers. In the last two weeks of summer vacation, Haruhi leads the brigade on a dizzying list of summer time activities that leads the brigade into experiencing what they think is dejavu but they're actually re-living the same two weeks of summer over and over again. It's up to Kyon to figure out what's missing to get them out of this endless loop.As fall rolls around, everyone prepares for the school arts festival, but Haruhi isn't content with their class's survey project. She, instead, hatches her own plan for the SOS Brigade to film and screen their own. Step behind the camera to see what went on to create the cinematic 'masterpiece' that is The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina Episode 00.

The second season of "Gilmore Girls" is when a lot of things did not happen to Lorelai Gilmore. It started with Lorelai not marrying Max ("Red Light on the Wedding Night") and ended with her not marrying Christopher ("I Can't Get Started"), but Sookie got married so at least there was some progress in that area, although the duo's plan to open an inn together hits a major roadblock ("The Ins and Outs of Inns"). Of course, the most important thing that did not happen to Lorelai was that she manages to really notice Luke despite the fact he is pretty much there in front of her every morning at the diner. Clearly the creators of "Gilmore Girls" remember what happened to "Moonlighting" once Dave and Maddie stopped bantering and started kissing and other things, so the agenda is to put off the inevitable for as long as possible. So even if it is obvious to everyone else in Stars Hollow (to wit, Emily), does not mean that Lorelai has a clue.
As for Rory, her junior year at Chilton has its ups and downs. and not just because of Paris. The ups would be "The Road Trip to Harvard" and making her society debut ("Presenting Lorelai Gilmore"), while the downside would be the rift between her and her grandfather because of Dean ("Sadie, Sadie") and the problems with Dean because of Jess ("There's the Rub" and "A-Tisket, A-Tasket"). If anything, the common denominator is to make sure that none of the Gilmore women are happy, which means Rory is mad at Lorelai for blaming Jess for the accident ("Help Wanted," Lorelai is mad at Emily for arranging their going to a spa together ("There's the Rub") and Emily is mad at Richard for quitting his job without consulting here ("The Bracebridge Dinner"). What? You thought Emily was going to be mad at Rory? Are you kidding? Have you not been watching this show?
For me the fascinating part is watching the yang of Lorelai and Emily's relationship compared to the yin of the Lorelai and Rory dynamic. For me some of the most memorable moments from season two are when Emily orders Richard to make up with Rory because if their granddaughter ever gets married she to know about it (Lorelai did not tell her parents about her engagement to Max) and the look on her parent's face with Lorelai gets her business school diploma ("Lorelai's Graduation Day"). But then a good rule of thumb is anytime we see a chink in Emily's armor it is a moment that will be hard to forget. I am still trying to make up my mind as to whether or not Lorelai has an even more strained relationship with her father than her mother, given his visit to her place of work ("Richard in Stars Hollow") and her visit to his new office ("Help Wanted"). I am certainly leaning in that direction, but it is still open to debate.
But overall the two emotional highpoints of the second season finding Lorelai giving and then receiving as good as she gets. The giving happens in "Teach Me Tonight" when a totally distraught Lorelai goes after Luke because of the car accident where Rory gets hurt (slightly hurt, but hurt is hurt, and there is a cast on her arm, mister), creating a serious rift in their relationship. The receiving is two episodes later in "Lorelai's Graduation Day" when Rory misses the big event and offers the most high speed combined heartfelt apology and verbal self-flagellation in television history (I agree with her, I think she had a stroke or something).
My strong affection for high-speed dialogue can be traced from "Gilmore Girls" back to "Moonlight" and beyond to "The Thing From Another World" and any movie starring Groucho Marx. Equally as strong is my enjoyment of gratuitous pop culture references, especially as manifested in "The Simpsons" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." So to have a series that combines both of these elements and provides deleted scenes on the DVD is one of those absolute joys you hear so much about (although my wife is tired of me explaining all of the references, allusions, and impromptu name dropping). Then again, while I knew from the start that Carole King was singing the show's theme song "Where You Lead" with her daughter Louis Goffin, I only recently figure out they had re-recorded the song with some of the lines changed to better fit the show (No, I do not fast forward through the title sequence; I always listen to the song).
I am also pleased to see that the "Gilmore Girls" is being seen around the world, although I have to wonder how the pop culture references translate into out cultures (I have no doubt people can speak real fast in any language). But you can see "Gilmore Girls" now from Argentina (the current season is on the Warner Channel Thursdays at 21:00 with past seasons shown weekdays at 11:30 and 16:30) to the United Kingdom (Sundays at 18:00 on Nickeloden U.K.). It is nice to think that Stars Hollow's madonna and child have gone international.

Sailor Moon - Season Two - Uncut (Japanese Language Edition) (1995) Review

Sailor Moon - Season Two - Uncut (Japanese Language Edition) (1995)

Sailor Moon season 2 is a must buy. While i admit it does show its age...but you have to keep in mind that these episodes were made back in 1993 so some aging is to be expected.
In this sereis you get to see all that DIC left out in their attempt to kiddie sailor moon which was originally created for a teenage audience. I was very surprised when i discovered that DIC actually did not leave out any episodes in this season like they did in the previous....so you get the season as you saw it on Toonami, but uncut, and unkiddied. I was only disapointed to find that none of the seasons are bi-lingual so you cant make-fun of DIC anymore for its butchering of sailor moon. Luckily i dont mind subtitles and i LOVE the japanese voices which are very cute, especially Ami-chan's.
As in the season one set you will find no special features, but as there are 42 episodes to watch, you will be more than satisfied with that.
And for those who wish to know, runnig time is 450 minutes in Japanese 2.0 with english subtitles (as i mention above this is NOT bi-lingual) and the suggested rating is 15+ for some violence and nudity i believe and some language.
This is a season all fans will be sure to enjoy....dont miss out....they are only goind to make so many copies so hurry and get yours today before you miss out and are stuck with the DIC dubbed versions on VHS.

Dexter: The Second Season (2006) Review

Dexter: The Second Season (2006)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Season two of this Showtime piece of excellence is just as good as the first season, if not better. If you haven't already met Dexter Morgan (played by Michael C. Hall), he's a Miami police forensic expert - he specialises in blood spatter - with a taste for murder all of his own. By twist of tale, Dexter's past comes back to haunt him this season and Dexter the hunter becomes Dexter the hunted. This takes the excitement and suspense up to new heights.
Dexter is still coming to terms with the season one's shock ending and initially finds (to his horror) that his killing skills are not what they used to be. And as if he didn't have enough worries, Sergeant Doakes (played by the lovely Erik King), the only one around who senses that Dexter is not all that he seems, is still very much on his case. Add to that the fact that his sister Debra (played by Jennifer Carpenter), who is still recovering from her own trauma from season one, is asked to join the FBI manhunt for him. The team is being led by Special Agent Lundy (played by Keith Carradine) and this is a development, Dexter remarks sardonically, that "makes for an awkward family dynamic".
Also very interesting to see this season, is the relationship between just-demoted Lt. Maria Laguerta (played by the brilliant Lauren Velez) and the new Lieutenant parachuted in over her head to take over her shift command, Lt. Esme Pasquale (played by Judith Scott). The cracks in Dexter's seemingly perfect relationship with girlfriend Rita (played by Julie Benz) that began to appear in season one, also begin to get wider this season so look out for Jaime Murray, fresh off her stint on BBC's drama "Hustle", playing the sexy, free-spirited Lila.
There's much more but I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it. Twists and turns abound and each episode seems to bring a new shock for the viewer to take in. The humour is dark but it is hysterically funny - a shock in itself, considering the over-arching subject matter. Unless you're someone who gets squeamish easily (most of the violence is implied rather than shown but there's still violence and there's still plenty of blood) this is a definite must-see. I never thought the day would come when I would be rooting for a serial killer - even a fictional one - but here we are. That I'm doing so is more down to the excellent writing and Hall's easy charm, than to anything else. I'm as happy as Larry to know that there's already a season three on its way and I hope they take this series as far as is logically possible.
I say long live Dexter!

Fringe: The Complete Second Season (2009) Review

Fringe: The Complete Second Season (2009)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This review covers my sentiments for SEASON 1 and SEASON 2. Its a good series in season 1 from pilot to episode 6 or 7......and then STRAP YOURSELF IN cuz its going to get way way way better from that point on.
Think LOST in SEASON 1. Thats Fringe. nothing to do with the story lines But with the excitement and anticipation each episode brings. Well mostly each episode. Yes sometimes they'll do an episode that doesnt advance the story line of the SERIES - which drives me nuts btw - but even in those few episodes, the story you will see in that episode will be greatly entertaining and leave you wanting more.
DO NOT start watching this at 11pm if you have an early morning. There is no way you will start and not watch at least three episodes. maybe if you are strong willed you might be able to just watch one or two among the first 6 episodes of season 1. But DO NOT TRY it with starting your viewing late in the evening with an episode that is after 6 of season 1. If you do that, I promise You WILL BE WATCHING 5 episodes back to back before you know it.
You have been warned...........

From J.J. Abrams (Lost), Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci –the team behind Star Trek and Alias –and executive producers Jeff Pinkner, J.H. Wyman and Bryan Burk, Fringe returns for a second thrilling season and continues to explore the unexplained phenomena and terrifying occurrences linked throughout the world – known simply as "The Pattern“ – in pursuit of a larger, more shocking truth. Set in Boston, the FBI's Fringe Division formed when Special Agent Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv) enlisted the help of institutionalized "fringe" scientist Walter Bishop (John Noble) and his son, Peter (Joshua Jackson), to save her partner and lover from a mind-bending death. Through unconventional and unorthodox methods, the Fringe team imagines and tests the impossibilities while investigating unbelievable events, macabre crimes and mystifying cases involving teleportation, reanimation, genetic mutation, precognition, artificial intelligence and other fantastical theories. When the unimaginable happens, it's their job to stop it.

The Mentalist: The Complete Second Season (2009) Review

The Mentalist: The Complete Second Season (2009)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Mentalist is back and better than ever with 22 new episodes of innovative and manipulative crime-solving techniques. Season two starts off with a bang and keeps on delivering. There are lots twist and turns as Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) manipulates everyone and everything around him to uncover the truth behind the murders.
The story lines are better than ever and manage to develop the background, personalities, and lives of the main characters. We get insight into the childhood issues that drive both Jane and Cho. We get pulled in deeper as we watch the relationships between the characters grow and develop. The chemistry between Jane and Lisbon (Robin Tunney) continues to grow and the energy between them is electric.
This is the one show on TV where there is so much misdirection and redirection that guessing the ending isn't probable, even when all the info is sitting right in front of you.
If you're looking for excellent performances, spectacular writing, and a show where you can't predict what's coming next then this is definitely a show you want to watch.

California Bureau of Investigation consultant Patrick Jane (Simon Baker in his Emmy®-nominated role) has a blatant lack of protocol but is self-assured and driven. The former “psychic" uses his talent for seeing the clues everyone else misses to solve the most baffling crimes. But there’s more than crime that makes this season a must-see: Lisbon and Cho reveal hints about their troubled pasts. Violence fells one CBI boss, and the new boss seems more interested in authority than teamwork. And as the Van Pelt-Rigsby relationship heats up, it threatens to cool down their careers. Match wits with the hit series that balances nimble humor with dark thrills.

Third Watch: The Complete Second Season (2009)

I'm a huge fan of Third Watch and learned a while back that the reason it's taken sooooooooooooooooo long for them to come out on DVD in the US is because of copyright issues on the AWESOME music that plays throughout the show. It's been released in Japan for years. Sheesh! I can hardly wait to get my copy!

Sometimes it seems as if the world is crashing in on itself. It’s the job of the first responders to hold it together. Police, firefighters, paramedics: The men and women of the 3-11 PM shift called third watch are ready to serve in situations ranging from small (attending to a frequent 9-1-1 dialer) to playful (a football match between fire departments) to harrowingly large and complex (tracking an elusive sniper who targets cops). The original team of heroes returns and an FDNY newcomer joins them in a 22-episode Season Two that combines the rigors of duty with compelling vignettes of life away from work. What kind of person defies a gun-wielding madman or rushes into a burning building? This kind – the people of Third Watch.

Glee: Season 2, Volume 1 Review

Glee: Season 2, Volume 1
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
"Glee" unexpectedly took the TV and music scene by storm following its debut in 2009, and by the end of the first season it was a multimedia juggernaut (and is poised to expand further). Anticipation for its return reached a fever pitch over the summer, with people wondering where it would go, and whether it would become a victim of its own success - the answer is, a little bit. The first ten episodes of the season have plenty of strengths compared to the first season, but also many of the same weaknesses, and others that the first season (particularly the first half) didn't have. As an aside, one can debate the merits of whether you want to buy the season in volumes or as a whole, but it's fairly upfront about the choice, so I don't see the reason to base a review around that. You can decide for yourself whether you want the set now or want to wait until summer of next year for the whole thing. Spoilers thing.
The first volume consists of ten episodes, from "Audition", the season premiere, to "A Very Glee Christmas", obviously the Christmas episode. The ninth and penultimate episode is Sectionals, the first of the three competitions that New Directions will face in the course of the year (after that, Regionals, and then, Nationals). Two of these ten are "theme" episodes focussed on, respectively, Britney Spears music and "The Rocky Horror Show" (and its film adaptation, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"), while another is more or less built around a guest appearance from Gwyneth Paltrow. There has been some debate in the fandom about whether the season is being dragged down by an overabundance of themed stuff, but I would, on the whole, say no - this ratio is far from unworkable (and supposedly the rest of the season will have less of this). And, episode to episode, the show is operating at a level of quality similar to last year. The problems are derived in great part from the big picture, and here the producers shoot themselves in the foot on a number of occasions.
The biggest debate raging in the media and fandom about "Glee" at the moment is about Kurt (Chris Colfer): Kurt is probably the show's breakout character, and certainly the one with the highest degree of social relevance. The complaints have been multiplying lately about whether Kurt is taking over the show to the detriment of everyone else. With rare exception, I would again say no - the amount of screentime Kurt is getting is not that out of line with what would be due a major story (and what he got last year). The other characters, for the most part, don't suffer from a lack of screentime - indeed, the show is actually doing a better job of dividing screentime and songs this year than last year (though a few characters, most notably Mercedes, suffer from this). Where the writers are actually failing, and why this creates a mistaken perception about Kurt's relative amount of screentime, is in dividing story. Simply put: Kurt has a story this year, and, in practice, nobody else does. Kurt has a storyline with continuity that develops from episode-to-episode, and the other characters have nothing remotely like this. Most of them could at best be said to be "dating" somebody, which in practice amounts to sitting next to them in class and singing together in duets; there are no substantial plots other than Kurt's. This is particularly marked in the case of Rachel, who used to be the lead character but for most of these episodes could be best described as "Finn's girlfriend". Indeed, none of the girls of ND have any story this year beyond dating one of the guys (Mercedes and Santana aren't dating anyone, that's true, but then, they also have no story). The producers need to start giving everyone else the level of plot and character continuity they give Kurt.
It didn't have to be this way. Indeed, "Audition" seems to set up a number of plots that would cover most of the cast, and from pre-season interviews, these were intended to be storylines. However, in what can only be called spectacularly shoddy writing, these all vanish within an episode or two. For instance, creator Ryan Murphy said that Quinn (Dianna Agron) and Santana's (Naya Rivera) story this year was going to be a rivalry over who would be the #1 girl at the school; the first episode has Quinn betray Santana to take back her old spot, leading to a physical fight. Okay, promising start. And that's all we ever see of it. This supposed storyline vanishes without a trace, leaving Quinn to spend the rest of the time dating Sam and Santana, well, doing nothing beyond supplying her usual biting one-liners. There's a truly baffling about-face with the supposed Artie/Tina/Mike triangle, where Artie suddenly decides he wants to date Brittany between episodes, despite "Duets" ending with him saying he loved Tina - "Duets" also finally gives some actual seriousness to Santana and Brittany's hinted-at relationship, but subsequent episodes totally drop this too in favour of Artie and Brittany hooking up, with Artie's feelings for Tina and Santana's jealousy seemingly forgotten (that a show that markets itself as very gay-friendly continues to treat the idea of female homosexuality as a silly joke is rather disheartening). I would have thought that having a full season (indeed, two full seasons) commitment from the network would have allowed the creators to plan things out, but if anything the show is less coherent then ever when viewed as a season-long narrative.
So, negativity aside, what does work? Well, first and foremost, the cast of "Glee" remains utterly amazing; even when the writers fall down, they manage to make the show much more coherent than it frequently deserves to be. Several castmembers get additional spotlight here: apart from the aforementioned Colfer/Kurt, Heather Morris/Brittany continues to become more important to the show, including her own episode (which was somewhat controversial, with a lot of people hating it for its lack of plot, but I enjoy fluff every now and then, and it was well-done fluff); Morris and Naya Rivera/Santana are now series regulars, and they make the most of their additional screentime. Rivera, in particular, is rapidly ascending the ranks of the show's main vocalists, delivering two duets and two solo songs in the course of the year, and doing amazing on all of them. Poor Jenna Ushkowitz/Tina, so frequently ignored despite being an original castmember, also gets more to do here, both singing and dancing (her "Dog Days Are Over" is fantastic, and she and Harry Shum, Jr./Mike do a terrific duet of "Sing!") - though they still really need to define who her character is and what her role on the show is. And the writing, while narratively flawed, still has plenty of bite, delivering an onslaught of quotable lines and memorable moments.
If the writers could bring some order to all this and write actual stories and consistent character development for people other than Kurt, the show would be absolutely unmatched on TV. As it is, it's messy and fun, but frustrating given how easily it could be much better if the writers put the effort in.
