Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple - Season Two, Part One (2010)
Average Reviews:

After buying the first season box set I instantly became a fan of the series and knew I had to see the series through to the end and bought these last two box sets to do it. Like one reviewer said with the previous season one box set I could have waited until Funimation released the second season in one box set but I had the money and just felt I had to get it now. The stories main character Kenichi Shirahama who after being bullied at school for sometime even from some of the students of the martial arts club he tried joining to defend himself finds a young well endowed female transfer student by the name of Miu Furinji being set upon by some of the bullies fears for her safety but feels he can't do anything about it, but as he finds out she herself is quite a skilled martial arts fighter after seeing her defeat the pack of bullies easily, after trailing her unknowingly to her dojo home he sees the martial arts masters she lives with and after a somewhat forced pushing from one of the masters becomes their student. But after a few fight wins he now finds himself being faced with new opponents who are looking to reach the top by knocking off the stronger fighters that Kenichi has unknowingly placed himself in. The series is pretty funny with some drama of course in the series as well but luckily they don't saturate the series with it so it doesn't become to dramatic because of it. The series animation and soundtrack fit perfectly together both done pretty well and the voice cast for the Japanese and English cast fit their characters pretty well too. So if you like fighting animes or comedy animes here's a good combination of both...

When we last saw Kenichi, he was making the transition from wimp to warrior – okay, maybe no warrior, but he was definitely taking steps to man up.
Well, the world is starting to notice, which is good and bad. On the plus side, he’s making friends and getting more respect. In the minus column, his rep is growing faster than his skills, which is tricky now that every thug in town wants to test his new techniques. That means between street brawls and trying to score with Miu, Kenichi still has to hang tough with the six Martial Arts masters. Lucky for him, the training is getting more intense – because before Kenichi can finally stand tall, he’ll have to beat his fiercest opponent yet!

Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple - Season Two, Part One contains episodes 27-38.

The basic information of the series is this The stories main character Kenichi Shirahama who after being bullied at school for sometime even from some of the students of the martial arts club he tried joining to defend himself finds a young well endowed female transfer student by the name of Miu Furinji being set upon by some of the bullies fears for her safety but feels he can't do anything about it, but as he finds out she herself is quite a skilled martial arts fighter after seeing her defeat the pack of bullies easily, after trailing her unknowingly to her dojo home he sees the martial arts masters she lives with and after a somewhat forced pushing from one of the masters becomes their student. But after a few fight wins he now finds himself being faced with new opponents who are looking to reach the top by knocking off the stronger fighters that Kenichi has unknowingly placed himself in.
The second season deals more with Kenichi having to face the Eight Heavy fist of the gang called Ragnarok in battles as they try in dissolve this problem to their group that Kenichi has caused with his heroics, and as with each of the Ragnarok fist he faces proves to be more powerful than the previous one forcing Kenichi to train harder in order to defeat the next challenger of Ragnarok. Also as he reaches the final fighters he'll meet a person in his past whose joined Ragnarok because of their past with Kenichi and who holds a deep grudge against Kenichi for their past together. The series gives a nice closing of the anime somewhat but also leaves it open as it still leaves some questions too so it looks like we may see another season of Kenichi which I do hope for. Again the animation and soundtrack for the series fits perfectly and the voice cast for both the Japanese and English crew did their parts very well too playing their character roles perfectly. The video is standard format in the set comes like the usual Funimation box sets now a days with two dvd slim cases put into a paper sleeve, the extras aren't anything to shout about just the trailers and textless intro/ending songs. So if you already got the first season box set than finish the collection right away and if you're still not sure about the series check out the Funimation website for a few episodes you might be shocked about how enjoyable the series is for you....

American Pie Presents: Beta House (2007) Review

American Pie Presents: Beta House (2007)
Average Reviews:

First the warning and some quick intro here. If you are bothered at all by crude humor, look elsewhere. Like The Naked Mile, this movie goes for crude humor and plenty of gratituitous skin in what some would consider inappropriate areas. If you aren't looking for that type of movie, look elsewhere fast. As I wrote about The Naked Mile, this isn't golden globe or academy award calibre type stuff and you should know that going in. Complaining about the lack of taste in these movies is just a sign of ignorance of the product.
With that said comes this WARNING -- this particular movie includes or implies depiction of beastiality and a later simulated scene of same, so even those that aren't easily offended may find this movie takes things more than just a bit too far. END OF WARNING.
The humor is low brow, revolves around sexual exploits and college partying (alcohol and sex mostly) and mostly offers up excuses to show skin, skin and more skin... In doing so there's a fair amount of laughs and fun and if you aren't too uptight or too disgusted by the material from the warning above, then you might find this movie entertaining. Just go in with the right attitude to start :-)

The Best of the Power Rangers - The Ultimate Rangers (1993) Review

The Best of the Power Rangers - The Ultimate Rangers (1993)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Ok, the following episodes of Power Rangers are on this DVD:-
Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers "White Light(Parts 1 & 2)"
Power Rangers in Space "Countdown to Destruction(Parts 1 & 2)"
Power Rangers Lost Galaxy "To The Tenth Power"
Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue "Trakeena's Revenge(Parts 1 & 2)"
Power Rangers Wild Force "Forever Red"
Pretty disappointing selection. First of all I think they could have had more episodes with this package. Here's what I think of what they have chosen-
White Light (Parts 1 & 2)- When this episode came out it was a major episode because it introduced the White Ranger so it is quite understandable that it would be chosen for this selection.
Countdown To Destruction (Parts 1 & 2)- Simply the main reason to buy this DVD. It is the best two Power Rangers episodes ever made. It is quite epic in scope and featured the pivotal destruction of Zordon who originated the Power Rangers.
To The Tenth Power- Great choice again and one of the best crossover events in Power Rangers.
Trakeena's Revenge (Parts 1 & 2)- Lightspeed Rescue was probably the weakest Power Rangers series, and this is one of the best episodes of that series. Nice to see a crossover with the Lost Galaxy Power Rangers but it just doesn't live up to its potential. Still, not a bad choice.
Forever Red- The amazing episode that featured various Red Rangers teaming up together.
Now as you can see I've pretty much complimented every episode on the DVD. But my problem isn't with the episodes they have, it's with what they don't have. There also should have been an episode from each series- where are Power Rangers Zeo and Power Rangers Time Force? Another plus would have been to have the very first episode of Ninja Storm. They call this the Best of the Power Rangers, yet they forget to include some of the best episodes such as Ninja Quest (Parts 1, 2, 3 & 4) from Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, as well as the final four episodes of Power Rangers Lost Galaxy and the opening and final episodes of Power Rangers Time Force. That's why I'm disappointed with this DVD.
It probably won't happen, but here's hoping they have a volume 2, or start to bring out the entire series in boxsets.

Cats & Dogs (2001) Review

Cats and Dogs (2001)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The premise of the movie is clever. Dogs and cats can talk, think, build machines, and are in general as clever or more clever than we humans, but they just keep it all hidden. And they are in perpetual conflict against each other.
The plot is that a human (Jeff Goldblum) is on the verge of discovering a cure for dog allergies, and the cats want to reverse it an make all humans allergic to dogs. It's rather silly, and just furnishes a backdrop against which to show doghouses with sophisticated electronics, ninja cats, and other aspects of the cat vs. dog conflict.
Tobey McGuire (Spiderman) voices the protagonist dog, a puppy accidentally inserted into the conflict. Alex Baldwin, Joe Pantoliano, and Susan Sarandon do some of the other dogs. One of the great voices of our age, Charleton Heston is the leader of the dogs, but his part is brief. Sean Hayes gives a nice, over-the-top, supervillianesque performance as the cat antagonist, and Jon Lovitz does a good turn as his assistant. In general the animal voices are the highlight of the movie, along with the continually funny joke of the dogs possessing technology and intelligence about which we humans have no clue.
Elizabeth Perkins and Jeff Goldblum lead the cast of humans. Perkins is passable, but this is not one of Goldblum's better efforts. It's really the animal's show. I found the parts with the humans to be pretty boring.
The movie contains some good moments with the animals, though, such as the the Russian Blue cat operative breaking into the human's house. It balances out as something worth a watch for a Saturday afternoon popcorn movie, but probably not something you're going to drag out and watch every year or three.

Comedic action-adventure that mixes live action with cutting-edge CGI and animatronic effects. "Cats & Dogs" uncovers the truth about the high-tech, secret war being waged in neighborhoods everywhere that humans aren't even aware of: an eternal struggle between the two great armies of Cats and Dogs. The story follows a Cat plan to destroy a new vaccine that, if developed, would destroy all human allergies to Dogs, and the Dogs' efforts to stop the Cats from executing their plan.

Greg Giraldo: Midlife Vices (2009) Review

Greg Giraldo: Midlife Vices (2009)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
He skillfully tricks you into believing he's just your average comedian whose performance is ridden with cliche narratives of the American cultural landscape. But you'll soon find you've been fooled. I find the more aware a comedian, the better he is. He must take risks with the audience. Sometimes he must trust that his audience is not vanilla but again we're not sick pervs either. With awareness of this, Giraldo is able to become several great comedians at once with material that is crude (Stanhope) and political (Maher, Stewart). He also does numerous pieces that make fun of our use of language, reminiscent of the late Carlin. Nevertheless Giraldo is not just a mish-mesh of other comedians, he masterly weaves everything in a special way. Each joke is not random, he's telling a story that hopefully should vibrate with the younger generations.

an uplifting coming of age film with a multi racial cast that should appeal to all age groups.. i was particularly impressed with the three stars and would single out sandra echeverria.sandra played the "love interest" with an intelligence and energy that was superlative. while not a particular fan of motorcyle racing the film was fast moving and charascter driven.. madison pettis was adorable as usual and corbin bleu showed why he is a teenage heart throb.
this is a film that should appeal to all family members..

Land of the Lost (2009) Review

Land of the Lost (2009)
Average Reviews:

"Captain Kirk's nipples!"
...and if that quote didn't tell you the new big budget big screen "Land of the Lost" film isn't exactly directed at the Saturday morning TV crowd... I fondly recall spending those mornings in the 70's with Will, Holly, Dr. Marshall and the Sleestak, so when I heard Will Ferrell would be taking the lead I was content in the knowledge that the campiness of the original Sid and Marty Kroft show would be preserved. As fate would have it this preservation extends even to the cheesy theme song which Ferrell nearly performs in one scene...this theme song pretty much covers the series and movie's premise...the aforementioned characters, on a "less than" routine expedition via an earthquake and a tachyon gadget (this part is new) end up in a parallel space they call the "Land of the Lost" complete with prehistoric critters and lizardmen. Unlike the series they need to find Dr. Marshall's misplaced gadget in order to get home, this leads to lots of mishaps and sight gags. But as I mentioned, this is not your father's "Land of the Lost" this is a Will Ferrell, albeit watered down, but nonetheless, a Will Ferrell film, so as you'd expect there is overt crude references flying aplenty, including hot Sleestak-on-Sleestak action (not really on screen), nothing to cringe-worthy...although some drug and vague sexual jokes.
"LOTL" is bookended by a "TODAY" show sequence in which Matt himself interviews Dr. Marshall about is kooky space/time theories and then again later interviews a vindicated Dr. Marshall at the movie's end. Dr. Marshall is classic Will Ferrell, the pompous, dimwitted boob he plays soooo well, so you know precisely what you will get upon entering the theater. This time he is a nutty paleontologist who has a strange fixation on "Chorus Line" and comfort food binges. "Land of the Lost" is more "Elf" than "Anchorman", I guess. What is new here is the digital dino and big bug eye candy, not really the norm for a Ferrell film, more in the spirit of Ringo Starr's "Caveman" than "Jurassic Park" though (especially the cave-boy-speak).
The kitsch aside, if possible, "LOTL" includes some impressive sets, some true to the original show, like the Sleestak ruins and some less Kroft, but equally cool, parallel world Bermuda Triangle parallel world clutter ala desert complete with missing ships, planes and gas stations. Also true to the Kroft look are the Sleestak lizard people (one of which is voiced by Leonard Nimoy a.k.a Spock) who look largely unchanged, but I'd have bought a ticket just for them anyway.

Comedic genius Will Ferrell stars as has-been scientist Dr. Rick Marshall, who gets more than he bargained for when his expedition takes a wrong turn into the Land of the Lost. Now, Marshall, his crack-smart research assistant Holly (Anna Friel) and a redneck survivalist named Will (Danny McBride), have no weapons, few skills and questionable smarts to survive in a world full of marauding dinosaurs, fantastic creatures and laugh-out-loud comedy!

Crank 2: High Voltage Review

Crank 2: High Voltage
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I enjoyed how unique the first Crank film was and this sequel is even more wild, but I liked it a lot less. Crank: High Voltage is a roller coaster ride that last 85 minutes and features some really gross scenes. For example, a guy getting a shotgun rammed up his rear end isn't even in the top three weird moments in this flick. There was one scene where a guy had to punish himself for letting his boss down, which I had to turn my head and look away (I can't remember the last time I did that). There is almost zero realism here, much like the original, only multiplied by a hundred. Jason Statham is the main action star in the business right now and he is pretty good at what he does. He went all out here and I'm sure he has nothing but bruises and a nice paycheck to show for it. The large supporting cast was better than average and Amy Smart was especially yummy. If you liked Crank (2006) you will probably enjoy this one well enough, but I think they should put this series to rest. Judging by the ending during the credits, I'm sure we can expect Crank 3-D: Zombie Chev in the near future.

Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant (2009) Review

Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant (2009)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I will preface my review of this movie by saying that I much prefer Blade, From Dusk til Dawn and Underworld type vampire flicks that all have tons of action, violence and gore in them. Whenever you get into the PG-13 world you are going to get a much more friendly and watered down film with less brutality, violence and language. Reality and financing dictates that the movie studios have to appeal to a broader audience when possible to make enough money to allow the films I mentioned previously.
I am not familiar with the book that this movie is based upon. That being said this was a fun 'teen oriented' vampire movie with no significant violence or gore. This is a PG-13 (unfortunately) flick; you know it's going to be in the vanilla spectrum so don't expect Blade or Underworld. The CGI animation and coloring of John C. Reilly's pet spider was amazing, but then again any quality CGI animation done nowadays should be and usually is amazing. The makeup effects, set design and costumes were well done and give the movie an interesting modern Gothic appearance and feel.
The characters were interesting and I found myself pretty involved in the story. Comparing this film to the wildly successful Twilight films, the two out so far any ways, Cirque is much more interesting. There are no moping or perfect looking Twilight characters and Cirque was just more interesting than both Twilight 1 and 2. I love John C. Reilly and vampire movies so this was my primary motivation for seeing this in the theater. Reilly's character was not in his usual comedic or musical roles so it was good to see him do something completely different. Willem Defoe has a smaller role in this film and plays a very interesting vampire character as well.
All in all this movie is worth seeing and if you are a genre fan it is probably worth owning.

Beverly Hills Cop (Special Collector's Edition) (1984) Review

Beverly Hills Cop (Special Collector's Edition) (1984)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is one of those simple movies that is so deceptively good, you don't realize how good it is. I have probably unintentionally seen this movie 30 times. Every single time it is on TV, I end up stopping whatever it is I was doing and end up watching it to the end, even though I know who the bad guys are and how it ends.
Murphy is Axel Foley, a Detroit police detective. His boss, Inspector Todd, is portrayed by real life Gilbert Hill, a semi-famous police detective in his own right. "Mad About You" creator and star Paul Riser has a small role as Foley's fellow detective. Todd is always threatening Foley with termination due to his costly methods of crime busting.
When his friend Mikey Tandino (James Russo) arrives from Beverly Hills to Detroit to visit with his childhood friend, Foley, Mikey gets murdered. Foley is hit on the head during the hit on his friend, but is otherwise unscathed.
Because of his relationship with Mikey, a guy with a lengthy record of minor petty thefts, Todd assigns another detective to the murder and orders Foley to stay away. Lacking confidence in the skills of the assigned detective, and determined to get justice for his friend, Foley takes a "vacation" and goes to Beverly Hills to see if there is a connection.
The plot is more than just some laughs and gun fire - you truly feel like you are part of Team Foley, investigating the case. Does the murder involve the German Bearer Bonds that Tandino had on him when he was murdered? Is it about U.S. Customs? Is it about cocaine? Is it about expensive art? There are so many different aspects interwoven, a first time viewer is really taken for a ride.
From the get-go, you know who the bad guys are - but will they be caught, and why did they kill Mikey? This film, released in 1984, seemed to recognize the unique nature of the 80s and rather than some dated film with neon socks and big hair, it seems to make itself into a time capsule. Foley's hair and clothing are timeless for any decade from the 70s to today, so it's almost like he's a time traveller, laughing at some of the styles, cars, & habits of the rich & famous in the 1980s in California.
The music is also excellent and fits the mood for each scene. The main theme, "Axel F," a techno-type of instrumental, was on Billboard's top 10 for weeks on end and is often heard as a polyphonic ring tone on today's phones. One of Murphy's all-time best - second only to his role as "Donkey" in the "Shrek" franchise.

Black Butler: Season One, Part 1 (Limited Edition) Review

Black Butler: Season One, Part 1 (Limited Edition)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love this anime a lot, though I have to agree with other reviewers and say the manga is better. But hey, what manga ISN'T better than the anime(other than ones that were written after the anime). I am not going to make this review very long, seeing how I personally hate reviews that pick at every little thing in the series, and are 5 pages long. (plus I am a bit lazy to make it very detailed)
Art/Animation:
I liked the art. I totally disagree with the other reviewer saying it was hard to recognize Sebastian in the anime. Seriously? What? Are you partially blind or something? Animation and drawings are completely different, so there obviously be some differences. I enjoyed both greatly.
Story:
I've read up to the most recent chapter releases of the manga, in Japan and I can't tell even begin to tell you how far way this anime strays from the plot of the manga. Though I suppose it'd be boring for both the anime and manga to be completely the same. Yes, there was some slight fillers in the first season, but nothing too bad that made me even begin to dislike the series. I wasn't a big fan of where the plot went at the ending of the series though, mainly because it got sort of dumb and freaky.
Characters:
The characters are amazing in BOTH the anime and manga. I love all the characters, (okay, all of them except Lizzy) and think their personalities are shown very well.
Overall:
I'd highly recommend this series. Especially if you are a fan of BL (there are some nice hints). I LOVE all of Yana Toboso works, and will be a fan for a very long time. While this series has it's -.- moments. I still very much enjoyed it.
Ps. I haven't purchased this product but I plan to. I just wanted to leave a review that this series was very good, since it got such a bad review.

Leverage: The First Season (2008) Review

Leverage: The First Season (2008)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This series features a modern day Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men -- or in this case, men and women -- pulling off cons, capers, and heists that redress wrongs, return ill-gotten gains to their rightful owners, and also pad the pockets of our heroes.
Though it's tempting to focus on the excellent cast, who do a uniformly stellar job with the scripts, the greatest strength of this show is in the writing. The stories are focused as much on revelation and development of the characters and their histories and interactions as on the clever and intriguing plots. The characters are given depth and dimension -- not to mention humor -- and the viewer finds as much to care about in each of them as in how the caper of the week will play out.
An outstanding opening season for this new series. Not to be missed.

Leverage is a slick and crafty drama following a team of expert thieves that take down corrupt corporations in elaborate high-tech schemes. Despite what the critcs say. The is a great film and flat-out. The story out with Malcolm investigating who kill his mentor. So he becomes Big Mama once again to follow up on a lead. By posing as a nanny. Give the movie a chance and judge for yourself.

Chuck: The Complete Second Season Review

Chuck: The Complete Second Season
Average Reviews:

In its superb second season, NBC's "Chuck" offers a more fully developed and unique blend of comedy, action, and romance. Chuck Bartkowski continues his double life: slacker computer nerd at an LA big box electronics store by day and inept government agent by night, thanks to the secret government database called the Intersect emplanted in his brain. Beautiful CIA agent Sarah Walker is Chuck's handler and bodyguard, with a cover as his girlfriend. Hardnosed NSA assassin Major John Casey teams with Walker to track Chuck's safety 24 hours a day and to pursue the bad guys the Intersect enables Chuck to identify.
This second season advances several themes over the course of the year. The impromptu team of Walker, Casey, and Bartkowski get increasingly difficult assignments to stop various villains and foil their nefarious plots, in which the untrained Chuck begins to demonstrate, often hilariously, the potential to muddle through as an agent.
A second theme is the approaching wedding of Chuck's sister Ellie and her fiance "Captain Awesome." Chuck has rashly promised Ellie to track down their missing father for the wedding, a promise that will have a dramatic impact on the last episodes of the season.
A third theme is the rogue organization FULCRUM's pursuit of the Intersect. Chuck is in weekly danger of having his cover blown and either being kidnapped by FULCRUM or being sequestered for his own safety by the government in an underground bunker away from family and friends.
The fourth and perhaps most important theme is the slowly blossoming romance between Chuck and Sarah, as their affection for each other begins to strain Sarah's professionalism and Chuck's willingness to live under a cover story.
Chuck's best buddy Morgan and the slacker crew at the BuyMore continue to offer comic relief, whether avoiding work, staging insane stockroom competitions, or trying to hijack "Awesome's" bachelor party. Special guests during the season include Sarah's professional con-man father, the suitably awesome parents of Ellie's fiance, and Chuck's ex-college roommate and girlfriend, neither of whom are what they seem.
"Chuck: The Complete Second Season" on DVD is very highly recommended to fans of the series. This reviewer hopes "Chuck" gets renewed for a third season.

This season, Chuck is in luck. Intersect II is ready for espionage service. And that means the old Intersect (Chuck) can go back to his old life. But if Chuck goes, he’s gone: Casey has orders to off him. In the series called "TV’s funniest comedy" by EW.com, Chuck survives to unravel mysteries of the past, become a hero in the present, and – in a stunner of a season finale – chop-and-drop himself into an even more perilous future!
