(More customer reviews)Having seen Dane Cook as a stand-up comedian and been entertained by his humor and delivery, GOOD LUCK CHUCK seemed like an innocuous brainless evening entertainment. Unfortunately the story and script and direction are so sub par that even the most devoted of potty mouth movie fans will likely find this dud a bore. Hopefully Cook will be given better material for his next outing.
The story is meager but deals with a childhood hex placed on Cook's character, dentist Charlie Logan, which prevents him from finding lasting love: every woman with whom he sleeps (and there are countless encounters in the buff on endless multi-screen images) will marry the man she meets after her liaison with 'good luck' Charlie Logan. His obnoxious breast augmenter best friend Stu (Dan Fogler) sees Chuck's hex as a godsend for open sex, but when Chuck meets Klutz penguin trainer (Jessica Alba) and falls in love, there are problems - the solutions of which are so disgusting and unfunny that hardly need repeating.
This is a film, apparently with an audience (!), that is gross and so over the top that it completely wastes the talents of Cook and Alba. The film is being advertised as the 'chance to extensively see Dane Cook in the buff', but even that is an overstatement. Maybe if the viewer is on strong drugs....No, probably not even then. What this means is that there will be 14 episodes left unreleased from the current(4th) season. Hopefully they will release those after the season and then maybe they can just release full seasons instead of these partial season "volumes" we have been getting(at full season prices , might I add). As far as the show itself.......well , my title says it best! In it's 4th season , the show continues to get better and better every week. The episode "Tearjerker" is probably the best one on this set. It is the one parodying the James Bond Movies. As much as I loved the Family Guy Star Wars Parody , in my humble opinion , this is far superior. My only bone to pick with the writers is that Klaus seems to be used a little less than in the early episodes. This set will also contain the usual bonus features ( Deleted Scenes , Commentary , Unrated/Uncensored Episodes , etc.)
BTW To those wondering about the future of the show , FOX has extended this show for a 5th season!
UPDATE: I picked up my copy today and one little note for the few that might care. The packaging is different from the first 3 Volumes. The case is smaller , the size of a single dvd case with three slots inside for the discs.

Family Guy, Vol. 4 (Season 4 Part 2) (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)First off, what is with the selection screens? I have to adjust my television just to read the options! Anyway, several episodes here are up to the high standards of previous Family Guy seasons. My favorites are "PTV," "The Fat Guy Strangler," "Father, Son, and the Holy Fonz," and "You May Now Kiss..." (Jasper is funny). Others, however, I found to be mediocre or just plain bad ("Patriot Games"). There are not as many episodes I want to see over and over as there are on volumes 1-3, but this season is still good enough for 4 stars. There are a lot of extras on disc 3, too. 44 deleted scenes and you can select all and have them play one after the other (some of these jokes are better than the ones that got left in the shows). The featurettes are very interesting where many of the directors and artists are interviewed on what all is entailed in putting a show together. Also, these episodes are uncensored (there is an F-Bomb dropped or two) but there is a censored option (isn't it usually the other way around?). Anyway, here are the episodes:
Disc 1
"PTV": A wardrobe malfunction involving David Hyde Pierce at the Emmys causes the FCC to censor all tv--"The `bleep' Van `bleep' Show, Starring `bleep' Van `bleep.' So Peter starts his own network featuring such highbrow programs as "The Side-Boob Hour" and "Dogs Humping."
"Brian Goes Back to College": The New Yorker magazine is interested in Brian as a contributor but requires a college degree. Brian had dropped out of Brown University. It's strange to think of an animated dog in this way, but I'd always thought Brian was so cool and together. Hearing him lament about how he never finishes anything put a new spin on his character.
"The Courtship of Stewie's Father": Chris works for that disgusting old man who likes young boys while Stewie and Peter bond over something they both enjoy immensely: terrorizing Lois. This episode almost makes one sympathize with that old pediaphile (well, almost).
"The Fat Guy Strangler": My favorite of this volume. Lois finds out she has a brother who went crazy after seeing their mother having relations with Jackie Gleason (hence his hatred of fat men). Meanwhile, Peter makes the shocking discovery that he is fat and starts the NAAFP.
"The Father, the Son and the Holy Fonz": Peter's father baptizes Stewie with tainted holy water and he has to be quarantined in a plastic bubble. Meanwhile, Peter starts the church of the Fonz--"Please rise.....Now sit on it."
Disc 2:
"Brian Sings and Swings": A near-death experience causes Brian to feel he must live for the moment so he hooks up with Frank Sinatra Jr. as part of the New Rat Pack. A funnier side story is Meg pretending to be a lesbian to be accepted into a club.
"Patriot Games": This has to be the most stupidest Family Guy ever. Peter meets Tom Brady and joins the New England Patriots (along side Diet Pepsi machine?) but is transferred to a London team for showboating. Meanwhile, Brian fails to pay a debt and Stewie gives him a beat-down mob-style.
"I Take Thee Quagmire": Quagmire gets married and soon realizes it was a mistake. Meanwhile, Lois is weaning Stewie but he finds he is addicted to breast milk.
"Sibling Rivalry": Peter donates to a sperm bank and Stewie's rival baby is born (remember "Emission Impossible"?). Meanwhile, Peter stops having relations with Lois after his vasectomy and Lois gets fat. I like that part. Another highlight: Chris's shoebox diarrhea of the evolution of man.
"Deep Throats": After getting what he deemed to be an excessively high parking ticket, Brian wants to find dirt on Mayor West and sees him dating his young intern: Meg.
Disc 3
"Peterotica": First off, that Quagmire stuff in the beginning is very annoying. Anyway, Peter writes erotic novels and uses Lois's father's name as the publishing company. When someone gets into a car accident listening to Peter's book on tape (read by Betty White), Mr. Pewterschmidt loses everything and must move in with the Griffins.
"You May Now Kiss the...Uh...Guy Who Receives": (You get it? Hahaha). Brian's gay cousin Jasper plans on marrying his partner but Brian first must fight Mayor Wests' ban on gay marriage.
"Petergeist": Peter digs in the yard and finds an Indian skull and weird things start to happen. Part of the plot is similar to that Simpsons Treehouse of Horrors where a 3D Homer is stuck in another dimension.
"The Griffin Family History": The Griffins are stuck in a panic room while their house is being robbed so Peter tells them stories of his ancestors Nate the slave, Willie "Black-Eyed" Griffin the silent comedy star, and Peter H*tler who was the brother of...yeah.

(More customer reviews)I'm a big Barbra Streisand fan, but to be honest, even I lost patience with her last few movies. She seemed to play into this lofty image of herself as this sophisticate whom no man she meets can live without or is worthy. In The Prince of Tides, I thought that if she wasn't careful, Barbra the actress was going to do in Barbra the director. That was borne out in her last movie, The Mirror Has Two Faces. Happily, in her return to the screen here, she goes back to the kind of comedy that she does so well, that a lot of younger people have never seen. (Check out The Owl and the Pussycat and What's Up,Doc? kids.) Yes, some of them can't believe that they are enjoying her (it must be killing Mssrs Parker and Stone!), but Barbra hasn't been this loose and in over 30 years. And as if she isn't good enough, she works for the first time - at long last - with BOTH Hoffman and DeNiro! I will even committ an act or heresay and say that I think Hoffman stole the picture. However, his chemistry with Barbra is wonderful and a treat to watch. What the hell took so long?
The rest of the cast does fine, considering what they are working with. Yes, DeNiro has been slumming, but it is fun to see him and Babs have a couple of scenes along together, though one of my favorites was seeing Barbra reunited with Blyth Danner whom she directed in Prince of Tides, coaching her as a sex therapist!
OK, so maybe Babs, Dusty and Bob should have done something more topical and serious with Scorcese instead of this silly fluff with Jay Roach, but I'll bet it wouldn't be anywhere near as fun!

Rodney Carrington: Live at the Majestic Review

(More customer reviews)If George Strait started doing stand up it would be something like Rodney Carrington(Obviouly George would have to go 'blue' with the language. lol). With the jeans, shirt and cowboy hat, he is not far from being a country singer - and he can sing as well as be funny. I'm new to the world of Rodney so I cannot really compare this DVD to anything he's done in the past but now I am a new fan.
The songs are the most entertaining part of his show and, if you don't listen to the lyrics too closely, you'd swear you was watching a George Strait acoustic show. By that I mean the guy can actually carry a tune - the comedy is not in his bad singing but in the lyrics. The way he sings with funny facial expressions is hillarious and his piano player sideman getting into the act as well by going off on tangents singing until Rodney stops him. I am not easily offended at all so if you are, this guy is not for you. Funny is funny, if you can't handle profanity or sexual references then you should probably stick to something like Bill Cosby. Otherwise, this DVD is well worth buying and it makes you wonder how far Rodney would get if he actually turned into a serious singer(which in the bonus materials on the DVD, he says he has no intention of doing).
The bonus feature is entertaining too. You get to see Rodney meet the fans, hang out backstage and hear a few new songs not on the stand-up show including a 'serious' song he wrote about a friend of his who passed away. Be sure and listen to that one.
A very funny and entertaining DVD unless your a fuddy duddy who can't handle language.

Over Her Dead Body Review

(More customer reviews)This film has a good premise to generate comedic material - as Kate (Eva Longoria is about to marry her fiance (Paul Rudd) she is crushed to death by a falling ice angel sculpture... and she returns to haunt/harrass the psychic who begins to fall into a romance with him. Add to that the gay? catering business partner of the psychic medium (played by Jason Biggs) and there's a number of pretty funny scenes and plot twists. Although the plot seemed clever, Eva Longoria's character seemed to weaken the film - she seemed rather one-dimensional and stuck on auto-pilot in that role. The remainder of the cast seemed to get into their characters pretty well and the film was well-paced and fun... I personally like supernatural elements in films and this one has that as key to its premise... there's a particularly funny scene where the medium goes to a Catholic priest to ask for help in "getting rid of" the ghost and another scene where the ghost puts on a threatening, demonic pose a la The Exorcist to attempt to scare the medium away from the surviving fiance. If you like a somewhat cliched but still clever romantic ghost comedy you'll likely want to see this film.

Family Guy, Vol. 7 Review

(More customer reviews)As much as I love Family Guy, I still can't understand this volume business. Thirty to forty dollars for 12-13 half hour episodes is not acceptable. Smallville and Battlestar Galactica charge that much for entire seasons composed of 20-22 one hour episodes (for seasons one and three for BSG, anyway, since I still don't understand the 2.0, 2.5, 4.0, and 4.5 crap, but I waited for the price to drop on those as well).
And on top of that, the packaging of previous volumes has been done away with for the cheaper flip box. If a premium price is going to be charged, then I expect premium services.
So my complaint isn't the show, which I still give five stars to, but the price and packaging. I did my usual thing of waiting and waiting and the price eventually came down, but lets be serious. Shouldn't have to do that.

(More customer reviews)Watch purely for entertainment--it's well worth a rental,& perhaps purchase. For Sara Jessica Parker & Hugh Grant fans, it's right up your alley. It's funny, even though the situation they find themselves in is a bit off-the-wall. The Wyoming setting is great and used well in applying situations for the couple to re-find themselves. Yes, it's a romance/comedy with a very nice romance HALF that those types of movie lovers will find worthy of 5-stars. The comedy is great also, including even some of the outtakes, and special features, including a bear episode with Hugh Grant getting as close as it takes. By the way, SUBTITLES ARE AVAILABLE.
It's not going to become a "classic" or talked about in years to come, or produce a great number of movie spin-offs. However, after you see the outcome, such a delightful finish, you will perhaps wish for a sequel of say, 15 years later, and see how the relationships are going, and a reunion back with Sheriff Clay Wheeler (Sam Elliott)of Ray, Wyoming, and his packin' wife, Emma (Mary Steenburgen). I really loved that pair and their part in the witness-protection-home-away-from-home. Even some western horsin' around for the horse loving viewers.
It's rated PG--meaning Pretty Good entertainment for the family. Not much violence, no blood, no heavy sex, although the stars are considered sexy, and all the other things that most movie makers seem to think necessary to make a film entertaining. This is one to just give you a fun evening in front of the telly with a home-spun bowl of popcorn and perhaps with luck, beside a significant other. Bottom line-----buy it, rent it, borrow it, whatever works, just don't overlook it. IT IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR AN EVENING OF ENTERTAINMENT.
