Powerbody: Advanced Russian Kettlebell Workout with Phil Ross (kettle bell) (2008) Review

Powerbody: Advanced Russian Kettlebell Workout with Phil Ross (kettle bell) (2008)

This is my 3rd KettleBell DVD and if this one and the previous DVD's are all that are out there, I'm going to sell my new KettleBell and strike this off my "Try and new workout" resolution.
It is very apparent that the instructor is very well versed in KettleBells. He explains all the moves in the tutorial and has a very nice physique.
The big problem I have with this DVD is that it is not a viwer friendly DVD at all. During the entire workout portion, you must "watch" the instructor do the exercises. The only words that come out of his mouth are 'Set One Completed" after the end of an entire set, and so on. The rest of the exercise time he is inhaling strongly and exhaling strongly, so if your eyes are not glued to the TV set, you won't even know when he switches hands, lifts his leg, or bends down and stands again. This is very difficult (and probably dangerous) when he does push-ups and you have to bend your neck backwards to see what he's doing. While he is in push-up position, he does one armed push-ups, lifts one leg at a time, and does two armed push-ups. He does not even count down so at least the viewer would know to look up at the end of the count to see a change. I know it says advanced, but even an advanced person needs some type of count and what exercise is coming next. I'm perplexed at how this DVD made it out of a production house...poorly planned and executed.
I very, very rarely give a 1 star to an exercise DVD, but this one was totally useless. I'm going to swap it out for something more beneficial. A waste of money.

Yoga & Pilates (2-DVD Pack) Review

Yoga and Pilates (2-DVD Pack)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just read one reviewer's comments on Louise Solomon's Yogalates DVDs (I have vols. 1&2), and strongly disagree with her assessment that it doesn't help anyone to tone up and lose weight. After using both videos over the past 15 months I've lost over 85 pounds, and have toned and defined muscles in a way that I've never experienced before, even when I played tennis and racquetball. I now understand all the hoopla about Pilates -it really does stretch and lengthen your muscles in a way that other exercises do not. I started with vol. 2 (I accidently found it at a local Walmart) not knowing anything about Louise or Yogalates, although of course I'd heard of both exercises separately. For me it was perfect, and the sessions perfectly timed and gentle enough for someone returning to regular exercise after being sedentary for awhile. It wasn't until I'd been working out with it for about 4-5 months that I found vol. 1, which is more laid-back and easier than vol. 2, but which has some moves that definitely challenged muscles in a way that I hadn't felt with vol. 2. Louise's calming voice adds a soothing dimension, and I can't tell you how relaxed I am after a workout. Alternating both videos and varying the order of each section will help to keep you from getting bored with the routines. I'm now at the point where I use them in addition to some workouts (usually in the AM when I need a faster-paced routine to get me going) on FITTV because I'm really a lot stronger now. In addition to the weight loss my entire perspective on living has improved, I've influenced other family members to become more active, and all have lost significant amounts of weight. Overall, I recommend her videos (I'm hoping to get vol. 3 but it seems it's not available in the US yet) to anyone who wants to get in shape and begin/maintain a healthier lifestyle. I haven't felt this good in 20 years - this is the best $10 I've ever spent. The rewards I've received are priceless!! P.S. Part of the concept of Yoga is going inside of oneself to find inner peace. This is probably why there is no music during the workouts (the intro./end music is very peaceful/soothing), and why the set is devoid of any potentially-distracting background. If you embrace the concept of body/mind/spirit coming together as one during your exercise session, your focus will not be on the video setting but on yourself, and the positive steps you are taking to improve your health.

Beyond the Secret (2009) Review

Beyond the Secret (2009)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Ok first of all I have been studying metaphysics and the law of attraction for over 20 years. Many deliberate manifestations so yes it does work. Oh and I do "get it" even if this review is negative. Sorry this movie was just not all that good.
I was hoping for another secret must like us fans of the movie "Aliens" have been wanting another "Aliens" and all squeals have fallen short.
And unfortunately this film falls short of what I was also wanting another "The Secret" the Original Edition (which I have watched at least 100 times.) Not the "Extended Edition" which should be named "We cut Ester Hicks/Abraham-Hicks out becuase we did not want to honor our royalty agreement any longer" The vibration and feeling it totally different. But I digress back to this film.
First off the production values are awful, bad green screen, the picture looks pixelated and it make me feel like they just don't care enough to do it right. If your going to ride on the success of the secret and sell to the same audience which is what they are attempting to do by calling it "Beyond The Secret" then you MUST have the same level of production and visual quality or you are going to disappoint people(becuase the secret was a pleasure to watch.) That's just smart marketing. Being what this movie is they should have given it a different name because the Secret is a hard act to follow.
Now for the content...becuase I don't mind watching a straight up lecture with a person standing at the podium shot on a home video camera if the content is good.
Next this is not really "Beyond" it more like "The Remedial Secret" or "Special Ed Secret" for people not ready to manifest on higher levels.
It starts with Bob Proctor basically says most of what he said in the secret but less of the important stuff on the subconscious mind.
Most of this movie is about getting you to take action rather than just doing the visualization. It makes it sound like more work which many people feel is what should be taught and thought that "The Secret" was just pie in the sky and not realistic and left that out. Yet funny how so many people have stories of manifestations including myself.
The truth is there are many different levels of Manifestation from those that require work to those that do not require anything but intent and desire(I personally enjoy the later the most) This film is for those that want to manifest on the first level and are not ready to move on to higher levels of manifestation yet in my opinion. I have manifested with work and really with almost none at all in life. So all levels have their place. But hey you have to walk before you can run and it all depends on your goals as well some do require physical work.
For me I did not find this all that informative (but I have been studying 20 years I did not learn much from "The Secret" but it really inspired me) So if you are new to this stuff you might learn some good things here.
To me it was not all that inspiring and actually rather limiting in terms of what is possible and how you can achieve it.
This film at times seems to seek to take the "Hows" back from the universe and get you to figure out the "Hows" yourself and one author even gives you very good process on how to do this by moving beyond your own limited thinking.
Let me sum it up this way. The way I found "The Secret" I had been studying Law of Attraction and out of the blue someone me sent me a link to a let's say free version of "The Secret" on the internet I watched it and was filled with joy and empowered. Right after I looked for "The Secret" Web site and ordered the DVD becuase I WANTED to pay them for that amazing, empowering work they produced. I bought several more copies until the pulled the "Extended Version Scam" Which totally turned me off. You can actually feel the vibrational difference between the two.
If today someone had sent me a link "Beyond The Secret" after watching it I would have just deleted it and be glad I did have to pay to see it.
Over all nothing has come close to the Original Secret Movie yet and I have seen and own almost all of them...
The Secret *****
The Secret Extended ***
The Secret Behind The Secret **** (This is the best for just Law of Attraction Information)
Pass It On *** (like this movie but focused more on business techniques/advice)
The Moses Code ** (Depressing in my opinion, not a feel good movie)
You can Heal Your Life **** (but the audio track was too low, maybe fixed now I hope?)
What the Bleep **** (Started this whole industry)
What the Bleep Down The Rabbit Hole ***** Great 6 hours on random play!
DeePak Chopra How to Know GOD **** (Great for a deeper view of the quantum filed and GOD)
If this movie is right for you then you will be attracted to it and get something from it. I personally feel your time would be better spent using Tony Robbins Get The Edge if you want practical first level manifestation information, 10 x the cost but worth every penny!

Finding Your life's Purpose (2008) Review

Finding Your life's Purpose (2008)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This DVD is very clear and practical. If you only watch or listen to one program by Eckhart Tolle, this is the one to get. Most human beings live in a virtual reality world of mental constructs, and they rarely experience the richness of this moment. They are continually looking for a purpose in the future, while missing their primary purpose: to fully experience What Is, in this moment. On this DVD, Eckhart discusses:
* The concept of Time. I've never heard it explained so clearly. There is no past and no future. All that we call "time" is a mental abstraction. We rush around wishing we had more time, and all we have is this moment. His discussion on Time brings the topic back to your purpose: to live your life in this moment (rather than wasting it living in mental abstraction).
* Achievement vs. Purpose. Eckhart travels the world speaking and teaching, and has certainly achieved far more than most people. His achievements and efforts have arisen out of the present moment awareness that he lives in. When your focus is on the end result, and in the process of achieving that result, you miss your real purpose (finding your sense of home, self and completeness in this moment), your achievements take on far less meaning. Let your motivation for achievement arise out of the completeness of being IN your purpose (as opposed to trying to complete yourself by achieving some purpose you made up in your head).
----
Contrary to the one-star reviewer of this DVD's opinion, Eckhart is not suggesting finding your purpose in sitting on the couch, eating & watching Oprah all day. But of course, Jesus never advocated many of the things that have been said and done in the name of Christianity either. Those who have ears to hear tend to hear, and the rest walk away with more mental constructs to add to their virtual selves.
This DVD isn't just for people looking for their first Eckhart Tolle experience. If you have been reading, listening to and watching Eckhart for years this DVD is well worth the investment.
Most people want to find their purpose because they are looking for completion, for fulfillment, and to be all they can be. This DVD will show you where to find that purpose. As to what you do, what you accomplish, what you achieve, etc... that's something else.
So here's the big question: If you are completely fulfilled, will you be motivated to do anything, or will you just sit around, eat and watch Oprah? Some people think you have to be unfulfilled in order to accomplish anything. They seem to think that all achievement arises out of unfulfillment. This philosophy turns you into a Human Doing; looking for that next achievement to complete your self. But you never get there. Human Beings find their purpose in Being. Out of that place of completion and fulfillment they achieve great things.
I wouldn't have taken the time to write this review, but I initially saw the one-star review and didn't want people to miss a great DVD for the wrong reasons.

If you ve been searching in vain to find your true purpose in life, Echkhart Tolle has some straightforward advice: stop struggling. For the primary purpose of every human being is simply to be-fully engaged in this moment, aligned with the natural flow of reality itself. On Finding Your Life Purpose, the bestselling author of A New Earth invites viewers to discover the twofold intention of our human incarnation: first, to free yourself from thought-based reality and its inherent dissatisfaction; and, second, to express in your own way the grand vision that universal consciousness has for your life.

Women's Health: Total Workout in Ten Review

Women's Health: Total Workout in Ten
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This was my first Women's Health workout DVD I've used. I also ordered Train for Your Body Type and The Wedding Workout, but haven't used them yet. I decided to give this one a go first, since the split up workouts seemed promising since I have limited time to workout. Boy, was I glad I did! This is an EXCELLENT DVD. First off, you can either do one section for concentrated training, or you can do all the sections and get a total (and I mean total!) body workout.
First off the cardio section was amazing. It was hard, but it was also fun and Amy Dixon is a great instructor. She had me begging for mercy about 4-5 minutes in, but she encouraged me to "keep going, it's only 10 minutes!"
The lower body section clocked in at just under 8 minutes, but you WILL feel it. Amy has you doing a series of lunges, curtsey lunges, and deadlifts with lunges. VERY effective and the pace moves quickly and the moves are compact. Right off, you can feel the muscles you're working.
The upper body section was UNBELIEVABLE. I was dying--in a good way. And the day after I was sore. She does a bunch of great variations on the usual shoulder exercises, bicep curls, triceps and an awesome pushup variation that I love and you won't dread doing, yet is effective as well.
The flexibility workout is great as well, and Amy reminds you that this is not a wasted workout--you're still burning calories, which was encouraging as well.
All in all, this was a great DVD that I probably won't use everyday but I will use when I want a total body workout in less than 40 mins., or on days when I want to concentrate on certain areas of the body. I've never heard of Amy Dixon before but now that I have, I will definitely be buying more of her DVDs. Her cueing is great, she's funny and makes come comical remarks and is not overly peppy or obnoxious.
Great DVD, if you buy it, you WILL be using it again and again!

What the Bleep? - Down the Rabbit Hole (QUANTUM Three-Disc Special Edition) Review

What the Bleep - Down the Rabbit Hole (QUANTUM Three-Disc Special Edition)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This revised edition contains most of what was in the first edition, however it seems to have been put together in a more coherent and understandable format. Additional interviews and animations were added to accomplish this. If you are interested in learning about quantum physics, and dramatically increasing your understanding of reality, this is an entertaining way to do so. However, it should be mentioned that the information is presented in a very rapid manner, for the most part. For the average person, it may take several viewings to be able to adequately comprehend some of the concepts that are being discussed.
Plus as a bonus, DVDs #2 and 3 contain an unedited version of the movie, which is about 5 hours of information, about half of which is in the edited version. There is a feature that allows you to turn off the "drama" sequences which is nice. There is also a random generator feature that switches around the order of the information, I think. I didn't try this feature because the original layout has been ordered in a coherent manner, and I believe it would make it difficult to follow the content if it weren't done like this, but I can't say for sure. I still have yet to watch the 6+ hours of interviews that are contained on the reverse side of the 3 DVDs. Anyways great movie! I always feel empowered after watching it.

Chill Out The Law of Attraction In Action, Episode IV

As always, Abraham's teaching is wonderful. It keeps bringing me back to balance and well-being. What I love the most about this DVD was the question about romantic relationship. Abraham explained about the honeymoon phase in the romantic relationship and how you can acheive relationship you want through co-creation!
When you believe that you will get anything you want just through keeping yourself happy. You don't need to know or do anything else. All things you desire will flow into your experiences. I have lived and proved this theory for years. There is once in a while that I got thrown off a little due to the outside circumstances. When I realize that I do not feel good as I always do, I just clean up my vibrations again and again by cleaning up my thoughts. Things begin to work out again.
I'm so grateful that I found abraham. Thank the universe for this teaching.

The Secret (Extended Edition) Review

The Secret (Extended Edition)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Secret is one of the best produced and edited DVDs of its kind that I have ever seen. And the line-up of teachers and presenters is top-notch. There is only one reason I give this DVD four stars instead of five. The Secret is about the Law of Attraction, and how we can use that Law to "attract" into our lives anything we want. But it spends 95% of the time talking only about being focused on what you want (rather than what you don't want), and generating positive feelings about that. It only spends 5% of the time making it clear that what we really attract into our lives is the people, circumstances, and opportunities that lead us to what we want. In other words, when we utilize the principles mentioned in The Secret, doors open. But we have to recognize those doors for what they are and go through them. And that involves action. Many people who watch The Secret walk away with the impression that visualization and positive feelings is all it takes. It isn't. You still have to do something. As long as you keep that in mind, The Secret contains information that can be life altering. Enjoy!

I often read Womens Health, so when I saw they brought out some exercise dvds, I snapped them up. They are really good and I love this one in particular.
It's a fantastic aerobic/toning workout and Amy Dixon cues really well and makes this fun and is encouraging and motivating. I haven't done or seen a workout of hers, but I'm so impressed with this. If you put in a lot of effort on this, you will get a lot of results. It's tough but great and fun to do. It's easy to follow and do and she tells you often throughout that you can do it and to push yourself a little harder. The cardio moves are athletic style (like kickboxing, jogging and ski moves) and the toning moves are classic kinds. You have easier options to choose from so that makes it fairly do-able for many people.
I really recommend this dvd as it's so well put together with the right type of exercises to get you in tip top shape, and an instructor who's not annoying but motivating and makes this an enjoyable workout.

Love Happens (2009) Review

Love Happens (2009)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It is not often that 'popular romance comedies' have the courage to tackle issues like death and grieving and make the story work, but such is the case with LOVE HAPPENS, a good little film written (with Mike Thompson) and directed by Brandon Camp. And it helps to have a solid cast of popular and well-schooled actors to pull off a subject that might make a few people uneasy.
Dr. Burke (Aaron Eckhart) is a seminar man who runs a business with his colleague Lane (Dan Fogler) based on helping people cope with grief - a group called 'A-Okay'. Burke is a popular guru, more so because of his reason for ministering to grievers: his beloved wife died three years ago in a car accident so Burke can speak about grief from experience. But it seems he is running away from something, too. Most of his followers don't notice, but one man Walter (John Carroll Lynch) is a particularly needy client and seems to pick up on something missing in Burke's seminars. Burke is currently in Seattle (his deceased wife's home) with his manager Lane (who is cooking up all manner of marketing tools and opportunities for the A-Okay team). Burke happens to literally bump into Eloise (Jennifer Aniston) who owns a flower business catering to the hotel in which the seminar is being staged. Eloise seems addicted to losers, and is freshly apart from her latest affair: she is comforted and supported by her sole employee, the somewhat dingy Marty (Judy Greer in a terrific cameo), who encourages Eloise to look for some stability in her next mate.
Burke is attracted to Eloise but is so out of practice in the dating game that he comes across as vulnerable - a trait that makes Eloise wary at first and attracted later. The odd things the two do in the mating dance finally result in the uncovering of the secret problems Burke carries. Refreshingly enough the film does not sell out with a happy-wappy ending, just a few thoughts that are particularly tender.
Eckhart and Aniston are a terrific team on the screen: both are lovable without resorting to being sappy and repetitive. Fogler and Greer are excellent as are such fine actors as Martin Sheen and Frances Conroy in memorable cameos. There is a lot to like in this film that makes it a step above the usual 'chick flicks' that were more popular in theaters. Perhaps audiences, sadly, have difficulty hearing about grieving, but death, as well as Love, happens! Grady Harp, February 10

Jennifer Kries: New Body Pilates - Beginners Mat Workout (2007) Review

Jennifer Kries: New Body Pilates - Beginners Mat Workout (2007)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
NOTE. The Pilates segments on this DVD appear on previously released Jennifer Kries videos: the main Pilates workout is from Hot Body Cool Mind Level 1, and the bonus Pilates Magic Circle segment is from Hot Body Cool Mind Waking Energy.
The main workout on this DVD is a 34-minute Pilates matwork sequence. Jennifer Kries, who is instructing three background exercisers, starts by providing an overview with basic Pilates principles, including breathing and form--an important feature for those new to Pilates. Following this, Jennifer leads the class through a fairly standard mat practice which mostly follows classical Pilates sequencing, although she adds some stretches, decreases the repetitions, shows modifications, and performs only 3 of the Series of 5 exercises. Overall, this workout is most appropriate for beginners, although Jennifer includes some good form reminders that even more experienced Pilates practitioners may find useful.
Also included on this DVD is a 14-minute bonus Pilates Magic Circle segment: here Jennifer instructs one male and one female background exerciser in a nice little full-body workout using the Pilates circle or ring. The first half is performed in a standing position, first working the upper body with the ring between your hands, then the lower with the ring between your legs. There were some unique variations here that I haven't seen in other Pilates ring workouts. The second half of this workout is a short matwork sequence. Jennifer has her assistants perform abbreviated versions of Pilates exercises, such as the hundred and the rollup, and she includes with a single exercise from the Pilates side kick series. Because the ring makes the moves a little more challenging, the level of this workout was slightly more difficult than the main workout, more of an experienced beginner level.
In summary, if you are looking for a basic beginning Pilates mat workout with plenty of instruction and form pointers, this DVD might fit the bill. However, as mentioned above, keep in mind that the Pilates segments here were previously released on other DVDs, and Jennifer frequently refers to those other workouts.
