This video is a total head to toe workout. Excellent for beginners; people with chronic illness who need to work out daily. This video is challenging yet doable. The class is helping me cope with fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue/myofacial pain syndrome. You too may find this a rewarding class. If you need a workout to help chronic illness try this one. I love it. thanks Jane...

Jane Fonda's Personal Trainer Series: Total Body Sculpting (1995) Review

Jane Fonda's Personal Trainer Series: Total Body Sculpting (1995)
Average Reviews:

I used this tape after a few months of doing Tae-bo exclusively. My muscles were SORE the day after. Which means that I had neglected them while doing Tae-bo. Now I've dropped the Tae-bo and do Jane Fonda's workouts exclusively. The moves remind me of Cindy Crawford's video. Most are really basic. Surprisingly, the back stretches are quite soothing to my achy back and has in fact strengthened my back muscles. No more back pains! After about 4 weeks, I've also noticed my arms getting leaner, not bulkier. The two alternating workouts are fast (about 20 minutes each) and basic, but it works! However, I only give 4 stars because the music is poor (don't even try to do the moves in time with the music) and overall the video is quite boring (no MTV-like sequences or exotic settings here). Nevertheless, the workouts are effective. Nice to alternate with something aerobic.

Jane Fonda's Complete Workout Review

Jane Fonda's Complete Workout
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This review refers to the "Jane Fonda Complete Workout" VHS...
No matter what your age or fitness level, this is an excercise tape that can be beneficial to everyone. It is called the "Complete Workout"..and it is!
Jane takes you from a great warm up and upper body workout, through a fat burning aerobic session to a lower body strengthening and toning segment and finally a wonderful cooldown and stretch that will not only make you feel good about yourself, but just plain good!
The class is divided into three seperate segments. You can take your time and build up to doing all three or choose the ones that fit your needs the most. The first session is about 15 minutes of toning and sculpting the arms and also includes a little chest work as well(some push ups). You can start off with light weights and work your way up as you get stronger. Right afterwards there is a 35 minute aerobic class, which you can also adapt to your fitness level. She starts with a good warm up(the first time I did it, I thought the warm up WAS the aerobics session...was I in for a surprise!) and the class is generally divided into two groups you can follow. One is low impact and the other a combination of high and low impact). The music is fun and Jane, as in all the segments, talks you through and motivates you every step of the way. If your still standing, after this one you can move on to the lower body class. A very intense 20 minutes of lunges(done with or without weights), floor exercise and a little ab work(not alot, but like I said intense enough to feel it).Intermediate and advanced may add ankle weights to make the work out even harder.
You can adapt these sessions in any way you like. One day the upper body and aerobics, the next time, the aerobics and lower body. I like to use this tape about three times a week, and in combination with Jane's "Yoga Exercise Workout" once a week, I am seeing results, and seem to have alot more energy than before.
Although this tape was made more than a dozen years ago, it is still a good and effective workout. It is an excellent value for the price.
"I feel good....like I knew that I would, yeah"....Laurie

Jane Fonda's Low Impact Aerobic Workout Review

Jane Fonda's Low Impact Aerobic Workout
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Yes, it's the '80s. Yes, the outfits are now hysterical (dig those leopard-print suspenders and big hair!). Yes, it's Jane Fonda, who has given up doing aerobics these days. But it's still the best low-impact workout I've ever found. As others have said, you've always got one foot on the ground, but you definitely get your heart rate up. The moves are fun. My favorite one is "chicken turns."
I prefer the enthusiasm and silliness to some of the more sterile video styles out there; it definitely doesn't detract from the workout. This definitely isn't the right video for you if you take yourself seriously, however.
It's about 35 minutes of aerobics and another 10 minutes of excellent warmup and cooldown; this tape has the best cooldown out there. I wish I could attach it to all my other workout videos.
As others have said, it covers a range of ability -- from beginner to intermediate. I'd say an advanced exerciser might find the video below their capabilities, even with added weights. But it definitely brings about results -- after doing this video for a few months, I visibly toned up and lost inches.

I just bought this tape three weeks ago and have been "doing it" 3 days a week. I have lost 3 pounds by just increasing my aerobic activity, plus Jane Fonda's steps are fun! The music is great (I'm 48½ years old). If you don't mind the over-enthusiastic entourage of people working-out with her, plus a little comedic-refief in the form of a lost young man, you'll really enjoy this workout. I look forward to dancing with Jane, and plan to increase my workouts to 5 days a week.

Jane Fonda's Workout Challenge Review

Jane Fonda's Workout Challenge
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The 90-minute tape was initially designed for dancers, athletes and those with extensive exercise experience. Here, every inch of the body is put through a vigorous set.
ARM Workout: Begin with a thorough stretch, then six minutes of ARM workout, you can feel the shoulders burn. Six minutes never seemed so long.
The 20-minute AEROBIC section is excellent! During the aerobic section, she works out with two fit young men; the aerobic section is very high impact and deeply intense. While moving constantly, Jane provides easy steps, the cues are sufficient.
What is rarely included in any of today's workouts is a BALANCE section. Stand on one leg, raise it up and sway. This legwork is not easy and runs the length of about eight minutes.
The WAIST SECTION: Again, I have used many videotape programs for exercise, but rarely have I done a specific waist workout. It is indeed strenuous. Another eight minutes long. Eight minutes doesn't sound like a long time, but when you physically challenge your waistline to a grueling workout, it is a long time.
The last half-hour is the floor work starts with STOMACH CRUNCHES. This is probably the most difficult because she does what I know I can't do! For the average person who engages in a regular exercise program, if you can accomplish exactly what she does, I applaud you.
She proceeds to work on the LEGS. Simple leg work and inner thigh work consists of about 200 movements for one leg, then double that for both legs. You will move those legs up and down 400 times. Add another 200 moves for ROVERS (floor work on all fours, lifting leg up and out.)
The GLUTS (Butt work) is just over four minutes. She strains the gluts for approximately 200 times.
I will always come back to this this workout, just to show myself I can do it! Undoubtedly, the most challenging workout ever......MzRizz

There wasn't much of a description for this video and the two reviews were so opposite, I didn't know what to think. I decided to give it a try and here's what I wish I had known: There are two workout programs on this DVD, one aimed at 3-8 year olds and the other for 7-14. It is HOSTED by Jane Fonda but she doesn't actually do any of the workouts. The workouts are lead by Fun House host, J.D. Roth (Fun House is an older children's program from the '80s). You can look up the individual workouts for further information: Fun House Fitness: The Swamp Stomp and Fun House Fitness: The Fun House Funk. It's really great for the target audience, it just would have been nice to know which target audience that was in advance.

Jane Fonda's Step Aerobic and Abdominal Workout (1992) Review

Jane Fonda's Step Aerobic and Abdominal Workout (1992)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This workout video is divided into two parts. First there is
a 45-minute step aerobic section which includes a warm-up,
several different step combination featuring a rotation of
three instructors, a cool-down, and a short lower body stretching
segment. The second part is a ten-minute ab workout hosted by
Jane Fonda herself. The step workout is not difficult, in fact
it may be aimed more for beginners as the instructors often ask
the viewer to pay attention to their breathing and lessen their
movements if need be. I consider myself at a strong intermediate
level and work out with step videos 4-7 days a week. When adding
my own propulsion, I still feel I get a good workout with this
video. I like the rotating instructors (especially the cute guy,
I get tired of only watching women instructors on aerobics tapes).
I feel different instructors bring variety to the workout. The music also
changes with each rotation. Not the most hip music (this is
probably not a tape aimed at the young), but oh well.
The ab workout makes this video well worth seeking out. Fonda
does an excellent job explaining the moves, especially how to
breath during the crunches. I used to be confused on the correct
breathing procedure during abdominal crunches. Often, I would
unconsciously hold my breath. After using this video, I know
the correct breathing plus correct arm placement for all my
ab workouts!

Jane Fonda's Workout: Daily Yoga with Tara Stiles Review

Jane Fonda's Workout: Daily Yoga with Tara Stiles
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This workout is 55 minutes long, and unlike many DVDs, it includes all the basic yoga poses. Lots of down dogs, planks, and forward folds. Also twists, lunges, boat moves, pigeon, tree, and more. The pace is more of a flow yoga with fairly limited holds of poses. The instructor gives very clear instructions and the moves are well captured on film. Jane Fonda (age 73) recently endorsed this and her other new workout videos based on having different needs as your body ages. Direct quote from print: ""I'm on this crusade to get older people out of the chairs, off their couches, moving in a way that's safe, easy and very doable even if they've never done it a day in their lives. It's never too late." This workout is WAY more challenging than this quote would suggest. I'm age 55, in good health, a yoga practioner for 3 years, and lifelong exerciser and I needed child pose 35 minutes in to this video! Having said that, I look forward to many more tries and working up to the full length challenge.

Start Up with Jane Fonda Review

Start Up with Jane Fonda
Average Reviews:

Start Up With Jane Fonda", may be nearing 20 years old, it may make you laugh at the hair and wardrobe selections, but this 25 minute gentle workout has beaucoup benefits still.
Essential for beginners, it will also be nice back to basics for those that need to regroup and start anew. I have worked out every day for years, and I still find this one to have it's rewards. It's 25 minutes of an all over light workout. Warming up your body, stretching, concentrating on isolated movements for arms, hips, buttocks and abs,and using your own resistance to help you get back in shape and slim down while you are at it.Even your back and neck will feel the benefits. There's no jumping or aerobics, nothing too complicated,no weights, just basic moves that will help you look and feel good. The stretches will help you slim down, the isolated muscle movements, and flexes will help you on your way to getting toned, stronger, you'll improve balance, and maybe a bit more flexible with each session. You will also get a very nice ab work-out that is not too strenuous.
Jane Fonda is always an excellent instructor. She will guide you every step of the way. Always reminding you of proper posture, to listen to your body, breathe and go at your own pace. These are the basics, and this is helpful advice has not changed over 20 years. It's all important, to getting the most out of your workout without pushing yourself too hard, and without injury.
There are both men and women in the class. The music is classic and light, and sometimes ballet like. You don't need any special equipment, not even sneakers or shoes, but you may want to use a mat, for the floor exercises(abs and legs), or at least a folded towel or blanket to cushion yourself with.At the end of the tape Jane goes over some of her other video workouts.
Recommended for anyone needing to get back to basics, or anytime you need to de-stress(it's wonderful for this). Would also make a nice warm-up, or even a cool down for intermediate and advanced. Of course you should always watch a workout through before attempting, and check with your Doctor if there are any sort of physical limitations. If you see this available from a seller in grab it up, you never know when you may need it. Looks like you can practically get it for the price of the shipping right now!
Remember to breathe, eat healthy, and enjoy.....Laurie

Almost 10 years ago, I got these in video form. As a beginner, who had a total lifestyle change to include my diet, Mrs. Fonda's Personal Trainer series really helped me lose weight, tone up, and be fit. I lost 20 lbs and have kept it off. I also had success after I had my son when I used her videos in combination with a 2 mile run 5 days a week. I also recieved complements on how my body looked, many people would ask me if I was a gymnast!:) Her workouts and fitness philosophy are right on. I highly recommend this series for anyone just starting out. They are easy on the joints, and have three women who demonstrate basic, intermediate, and advanced levels in each workout, as well as lead some of the workouts, so its not all Jane. The workouts really have some great basic moves for learning about the body in toning and stretch. The aerobics get the heart rate up, and the moves are simple. The aerobics section does require a little bit of space, enough to walk about 5 paces in each direction. I've moved up in my fitness level, but I still use this series for toning, stretch and when I just want to burn a few extra calories. I alternate my workouts with other videos like Gilad, Kaehler, and the 8min(ABS/BUNS)etc series, and I recommend these too.

Workout: Starring Jane Fonda Review

Workout: Starring Jane Fonda
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Before Jane Fonda got America to its feet with exercise-in-your- home videotape series, the only serious participants were dancers, athletes or the very experienced exercisers.
In this video, her core exercise group seems to be those very fit and trim people who had exercised to sustain their body for their profession.
It is very clear to say that Jane Fonda's early videos, like this one, Complete Workout, Easy Workout, Prime Time Fitness, Workout With Weights, and the tough Jane Fonda Challenge Workout are all very good workouts. These were done prior to the massive surge of competition that flooded the market, where everybody sold an exercise video.
Hence, Fonda's later videos suffered in quality! Those being: Lean Routine, Step Workout, Lower Body Solution, etc.
The Baby of 'em All
This 1982 classic video is the baby of 'em all. The video comes in two sections, Beginners - 30 minutes and Advanced - 60 minutes.
In her warm-up, she even does jumping jacks also with great stretching routines, and you will see movements that today's exercise gurus don't do anymore. If you are new to exercising, you will feel the pain.
The basis of this workout is certain repetitive movements that focus on single muscle groups against the resistence of your own body weight.
Fonda works with every part of the body, from deep stretching to great waist work, grueling crunches, tendon stretches and serious deep lunges. She uses repetitive counts for each segment. At times, her voice overdubs the program to give advice and offer proper techniques while working out.
This is a tough workout, and if you are serious for strenuous workouts, and if you desire to improving your fitness regime, do this workout. And get the companion book "Jane Fonda Workout Book"
Then, try the Jane Fonda Challenge Workout, it has a very challenging aerobic section that is even tougher. .....Rizzo

Jane Fonda's New Workout Review

Jane Fonda's New Workout
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Jane Fonda's early videos were made with quality; they were lengthy and featured a strenuous workout that many exercise leaders today skip. However, with a need to compete with exercising models, tv queens, and every Joe Blow making exercise videos, the quality of her later video workouts, too, declined.

This 1985 90-minute tape features TWO workouts in ONE. The tape consists of a 35-minute BEGINNER'S with 12 minutes of aerobics. The 55 minute ADVANCED has 16 minutes of aerobics. You can choose to do this on alternate days if you are at the advanced stage. But the BEGINNER'S section is for beginners with at least some physical endurance or stamina.
What I prefer on this tape is the inclusion of toning and stretching all body parts. The warm-ups include neck, shoulder, arm streching including toe raises, tenson stretches, and including stretching the waist. Usually the newer exercise gurus don't include extensive warmup streching that Fonda does.
The floor work is tough, with leg lefts, that concentrate on toning the back and thighs. Stomach crunches are intense isolated movements that strengthen and tighten the hips and butt.
Once you master this, try the most difficult late 70's Jane Fonda tape ever, "The Jane Fonda Challenge." I have never done anybody's tape that is more vigorous than this.
If you are searching for quality workout tapes, stick with Jane Fonda EARLY tapes like this one, the "New Workout". You will work hard and you won't even notice the "leg warmers"......MzRizz

Jane Fonda Collection: The Complete Workout & Stress Reduction Program Review

Jane Fonda Collection: The Complete Workout and Stress Reduction Program
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I worked out for lunch in the breakroom today, a new coworker came in to heat up her meal and started doing grapevines with me. "Can I join you tomorrow?" she asked. "This is so fun!" Yep, I was doing _Complete Workout_.
I have relied on VHS and DVD workouts to keep me in shape for over ten years, but long before I got my first VCR, I had read Jane Fonda's workout book and was doing her workout from a cassette with my friends. Jane was pretty revolutionary back then, telling us that it was OK to be strong and healthy and that not everyone was going to fit into some cookie-cutter mold. Good advice today, too, if you ask me.
These two workout programs are two of my favourites! _The Complete Workout_ gives you an arm workout with weights, then about half an hour of lively and varied aerobics. There are different instructors to show different levels of impact/effort. The last section gives you a good leg workout. There is nothing weird or hard here, just simple fun with a certain amount of effort involved. Jame shows lots of variations and she gives useful tips for effectiveness and safety in the arm and leg toning sections. I have been doing this program off and on for years.
The _Stress Reduction Program_ gives you about 20 minutes of super-simple aerobics. This is the one I go for when I say, "I'm too tired. I don't feel like working out today." I tell myself I'll just do the first song. But I have never not finished the 20 minutes. After the aerobics, there's a stretching section that lasts 15 to 20 minutes. It is very relaxing and Jane gives very detailed instruction about what the stretch is supposed to do and how it is supposed to feel. She provides modifications, too. I personally never use the last session, in which Jane does a guided relaxation exercise, although the techniques presented therein I have found useful.
Back when I first began working out, I didn't particularly care about Jane's past or her personal opinions, except as they were related to health and fitness, nor do I now. I am glad the videos are being turned into DVD's. It makes it a lot more convenient and easy to work out with Jane!

Jane Fonda: Prime Time - Fit & Strong Review

Jane Fonda: Prime Time - Fit and Strong
Average Reviews:

This video I picked up from Target the other day. It was so good to see Jane Fonda on store shelves again! She is my absolute favorite fitness instructor. I've been working out with Jane since I was a teen. Before that I used to watch my mom exercise to her on VHS. When I was a teenager her instructions of how to safely and properly exercise sunk into my mind, thus instilling lasting discipline between my mind & body. So few people know about safe and proper body alignment. I will always be grateful to Jane for re-enforcing again and again with each video of hers how crucial it is to properly perform the exercise.
In her newest video Jane is true to her style of looking out for us here at home who are trying to follow her lead. She is very considerate and compassionate. Jane has a soothing voice and really looks after the viewer. This is especially important since this video is more geared toward older folks. I am young but out of shape. I wanted something gentle and non-intimidating which would keep me moving on a day when I don't want to move. This video has delivered what I was looking for. If you are super-fit and aerobic you probably won't like this video.
Things happen in life. People get sick, develop illnesses or injuries, give birth, get off of track for whatever reason, let themselves go...This is a video for people going through life who want to keep moving, want to be encouraged to care for themselves. We won't always being doing kick-boxing, advanced aerobics or such high-impact exercise through our entire life. Real people need something else to fall back on when their energy is low or the pace of life has changed for whatever reason. This video works for that purpose.
The introduction before level 1, to my surprise made me cry. I could 100% relate with what Jane was saying about being out of touch with the body. It felt good to sit with Jane and tune in to my body and appreciate it.
For those curious, yes Jane looks wonderful! She is lean and fit and has a better physique than many young people have. You can tell she has taken good care of herself. Her muscles are well developed & shapely. Her limbs are long and lean. More than that she seems peaceful, composed, calm. Her demeanor lends me a sense of calm which I can use after a crazy day of running around.

Let me start by saying I am a big fan of Jane and love her earlier workouts. I am a little disappointed in this new one: Jane doesn't always keep time to the music, the music itself is very bland and Jane does not cue well. What I do like about this workout is that there is a nice variety of steps, a good stretch at the end of the workout and Jane incorporates a lot of arm movements during the walk. If you are a fan of Leslie Sansone's workouts, you might find the pace of this one a little slow (even the second walk on the DVD which is supposed to be a little faster isn't very fast). Not all workouts are for everybody, though. If you are a beginner or a senior looking for a more gentle workout, this may work just fine for you. And I have to add that Jane looks terrific!

I've always been a huge believer in walking to stay slim and healthy. Walking burns a lot of calories and slims the waistline, while also improving brain function and increasing both your heart and lung health.
